German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said that the government will crack down on Syrian “refugees” who go home on holiday. Mr. Seehofer asserted that any Syrian who is able to return safely to his native country cannot credibly claim to be a victim of persecution.

The 19-year-old Afghan-Arab who was abused by rapper A$AP Rocky is demanding a new trial. He is unhappy and wants the verdict appealed, according to Expressen.

It was last Wednesday (August 14) that A$AP Rocky was convicted of assaulting the 19-year-old Afghan-Arab in Stockholm at the end of June.

The 19-year-old had demanded SEK 140,000 [$15,000] in damages, but received only SEK 12,500 [$1340].

There the story might have ended.

But now the plaintiff [read more about him] wants the verdict appealed.

According to Expressen, the Afghan-Arab is dissatisfied that the defendants “were not convicted of the violence with glass bottles to which he was exposed,” the plaintiff’s attorney Magnus Strömberg told the newspaper.

Neither the prosecutor nor A$AP Rocky’s lawyer has currently decided whether or not they will appeal.

The Migrant Ferry “Open Arms”: Fake Everything

This time it’s the Open Arms, whose owners say is packed with desperate children in ill health. It turns out that the desperation is fake, the children are fake, and the ill health is fake — it’s Fake News about fake everything.

According to what we have learned from the inspection on the Open Arms, ordered by the Public Prosecutor of Agrigento, no particular critical health and hygiene issues have emerged to trigger the emergency. The inspection was carried out yesterday to check the hygiene/sanitary conditions on the ship where there are 107 people who were shipwrecked. The migrants are piled on the deck of the boat, they sleep on the floor without any mattress, they cover themselves with sheets and tablecloths, and according to the NGO they are psychologically exhausted.

According to the report of the doctors of Cismo, there may be cases of scabies but at the moment, there are no institutional confirmations in this regard. It is certain, however, that no evacuation has yet been arranged. For 107 migrants, those left on the ship, it is the 17th day on board, with the Open Arms still off Lampedusa, facing Cala Francese.

Obviously the controversy continues. “Imaginary patients, imaginary minors, now imaginary health emergencies … The Open Arms NGO and its accomplices are reaching the height of the ridiculous; the Italians are good but not stupid”. This was written by the Minister of Interior, Matteo Salvini, on Facebook.

“Day 17. Miserable. Miserable are those who use 107 human beings ‘without names’ and volunteers as hostages to make xenophobic and racist propaganda. All those who permit this and make jokes about their pain are accomplices,” says the NGO on Twitter.

Nineteen minors of the 27 people taken from the Open Arms will be transferred to Porto Empedocle by ferry. The other eight, who have admitted to being adults after the evacuation, will remain at the “hotspot” of the island, subject to medical checks, also to assess their real age.

“We can no longer contain the desperation. We can no longer explain. There are no words. You are cowards. Hashtag a secure port immediately”. That is what the Spanish NGO, Open Arms, (says) on Twitter, posting a video of four migrants who tried to reach Lampedusa by swimming, after throwing themselves in the water wearing life jackets. Three rescuers go after them, and after reaching them, take them back onboard the boat.

Does the accumulation of four years without further terrorist attacks make you feel safer when you fly? It shouldn’t. The Bureaucratic Bunglers are out in full force and with them in charge you don’t have a prayer. Or rather, all you do have is prayer.

According to Annie Jacobsen, we’d better do our homework on this one because there is no one watching out for us. Back in April, Gates of Vienna posted on Ms. Jacobsen’s tenacity and her willingness to follow this story wherever it led. That post, “Silence of the Sheep,” proved that the author is a sheepdog indeed. Her interviews with other passengers, with government agencies, with the House Judiciary Committee, with airline personnel, and with individual people who bear the day-to-day hazard of working in this field, have made her case. The tale of her experiences is documented well in Terror in the Skies.

This is a top-down problem. The guys in harm’s way — the pilots and flight attendants — know the problems but they have no more power to address them than you do. Less than two percent of pilots are armed. Want to know why? Because in order to actually carry a firearm on board, the firearms training must be done on the pilot’s own time and it has to be done in a place far from home, squeezed into his holiday time or vacation.

And flight attendants? Again, they have to arrange self-defense training on their own time, at their own expense and without the cooperation of the airlines themselves. Think of it this way: what if Brink’s hired drivers and gave them no training in handling attempted robberies? What if they expected their employees to get training — if any — on their own time and their own dime? How long do you think Brink’s would be in business?

That’s the situation we have in the friendly skies of America. When you add to that the cruel joke of the Federal Air Marshals, the lackadaisical behavior of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the farce we all know as the Department of Homeland Insecurity, it’s enough to make you want to stay home and do your business by long-distance and email.

Let’s take just one: FAMS. This is bureaucratese for the Federal Air Marshal program. You know the old joke that goes “you’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny”? Well, for this program, the first part may or may not be the case, but for the second premise — being dressed funny — you can count on FAMS. Due to the boneheaded policies of those in charge, Federal Air Marshals are required to wear sport coats and collared shirts. Yes, that’s right: they must look like Federal Air Marshals at all times because they are a reflection of FAMS and dressing in a slovenly disguise would somehow bring disgrace to the organization. Comments about being a lovely corpse would be appropriate here.

Then there’s what they do after they’re up and dressed. Remember, they’re carrying guns, right? So obviously they can’t go through security. However, there’s a second obvious thing they can do — they can fight the current and walk through the exit lanes for deplaning passengers. How’s that for subterfuge?

The Muslim calendar year is strictly lunar, and consists of twelve lunar months, making a year of 354 or 355 days. That is because Muhammad wanted to show that Islam is “holier” and “truer” than both Judaism and Christianity. Since Jews have a mixed solar/lunar calendar, and Christians a purely solar one, Muhammad chose one that neither of the others use. (Just as he chose Friday as the Muslim holy day rather than Jewish Saturday or Christian Sunday.) But using a purely lunar calendar removes from it any linkage to the seasons. As a result, for every solar year, the Muslim calendar is short by eleven days, and so, year by year, Muslim holidays shift a bit through the different seasons.

Islam itself is a form of Judaism. Jewish Rabbis living in Arabia taught Judaism to Muhammad. Then he killed them and created an arabized version of Judaism. Eid al-Adha (the Feast of the Sacrifice) was originally called Eid al-Qurban. But when the Muslims realized that “Korban” was the unique Hebrew word used by Jews for sacrifice, they changed the name. “Hajj” itself is the Arabic pronunciation of the unique Hebrew word designating a pilgrimage festival. The Hajj celebrates Abraham’s sacrifice of Ishmael at Mecca.

The Koran tells us that the Jews and Christians are liars who falsified their scriptures. According to “Islamic truth”, Abraham was a Muslim, and not a Jew. Allah ordered him to sacrifice his favorite son Ishmael (not Isaac). This was to be done at Mecca, and not Jerusalem. But, similar to the Jewish story, at the last moment allah tells Abraham not to sacrifice his son, and to substitute an animal in his place.

Each year this event is commemorated throughout the Muslim world (in the USA this year it was on August 10 and 11). In Muslim countries, halal animals (kosher for Muslims) are slaughtered. (Australia profits by shipping tens of thousands of live sheep to Muslim countries, while liberal New Zealand recently stopped this practice.) Muslims cannot eat pigs, but can eat camels, cows, and sheep. In Muslim countries, Eid is celebrated by slaughtering and butchering these animals in public. Any good Muslim man can do the slaughtering. The mandatory method of slaughter is to cut the animal’s throat with a knife. It often happens that this slaughter is botched, with the result that the bleeding animal runs screaming in pain through the streets of the town.

The Department of Homeland Security is poised to spend $35 million on a new Center of Excellence in Terrorism Prevention and Counterterrorism Research. Universities will apply for grants to develop “multidisciplinary, customer-driven solutions while training the next generation of homeland security experts,” according to the press release announcing the Center. “Once awarded, this COE will leverage emerging technologies and analytic techniques to provide innovative solutions for preventing and countering terrorism,” the press release went on to say. The Center “will support academic-led innovation that supports DHS in staying a step ahead of emerging terrorist tactics.”

What does all this mean, exactly?

This publication asked DHS whether the new Center will focus on radical Islam and, if so, through what specific projects. A DHS press officer indicated he would put the question to a staff member working on the Center, but initially just provided another grant document instead.

This response being totally inadequate and not what was promised, the Sharia TipSheet contacted the press officer again:

The document you reference only mentions Islamist terrorism once and does not mention white supremacism or eco-terrorism at all.

How can anything useful be developed concerning “integrat(ing) technologies and concepts into DHS operations to avoid, prevent, or stop a threatened or actual act of terrorism” if no specific group is being examined?

Similarly, how can anything useful be developed concerning “break(ing) the cycle of recruitment, radicalization, and violence” if no specific group is being examined? Wouldn’t recruitment, for example, differ from group to group?

Perhaps it is envisioned that specific groups will be the subject of the grants even though they’re not mentioned in the grant announcement. If that is the case, please advise as to what percentage of the Center’s activity is expected to be about:

  • Abortion extremism
  • Islamist extremism
  • animal rights extremism
  • environmental extremism
  • sovereign citizen extremism
  • anarchist extremism
  • Puerto Rican extremism
  • militia extremism
  • white supremacist extremism
  • black separatist extremism
  • bombing matters
  • other (please identify)

Finally, the document is clearly written from a Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) point of view. Early in the Trump administration, it was reported that DHS was moving away from CVE in several ways. What happened to the initiatives listed below, and why doesn’t the document you referenced reflect them?

Despite a heavy police presence, violent clashes broke out between the Proud Boys and Antifa during today’s demonstrations in Portland. Even though police attempted to keep the groups separate, a bus was attacked and four people were arrested.

In other news, the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has banned the performance of Islamic prayers on all public roads in the state.

Niqab-Wearers Are Exempt From the Niqab Ban

The Dutch government recently enacted a law banning the niqab in certain public situations. However, in order to avoid discriminating against any particular religion, the law targets people wearing “full-face coverings”, as is usually the case with such laws.

No one among us deplorable “Islamophobes” is surprised to learn that the Dutch police only arrest people who wear face coverings that are not the niqab.

The two videos below show scenes from a demonstration against the “niqab ban”, and follow the actions of a man named René (who happens to be a fan of Tommy Robinson). René is in favor of the new law, but wants to see it applied equally to all face coverings. He wears a balaclava to the demonstration to make a point: he is arrested, while none of the women wearing niqabs are.

You’ll notice that besides the relatively small number of (presumably Muslim) wearers of the niqab, the demonstrators seem to be mostly white middle-class women. Useful idiots, in other words.

A Report to the Shareholders

That’s what I whimsically call donors to Gates of Vienna: shareholders.

They don’t get any financial return on their contributions, but I hope they acquire useful information and insights from all the things I post here.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says it would be a good thing if the “rescue” of migrants in the Mediterranean were able to resume. She would like to see EU member states’ navies doing the rescuing, as they did during the now-suspended Operation Sophia.

Jihad Attack Averted in Östersund

Östersund: Man tried to run over people

Investigated for suspected connections to Akilov

A man is in custody on probable cause for plotting a terrorist crime.

The man is believed to have attempted to drive over people on Wednesday also in a crowd of people in Östersund , according to reports received by Aftonbladet.

The man is also being investigated for links to the convicted terrorist Rakhmat Akilov. He is reportedly from Uzbekistan, according to reports received by Sweden Radio EKOT.

It was on Wednesday that the man was arrested and held on probably cause, on suspicion of preparing for murder.

Witnesses described the man’s driving as out of the ordinary, and he was arrested by police after his car became stuck in a stone foundation in Östersund.

In the car, which is registered to a self-employed person in the county who is away on vacation, the police made seized various items which are reported to be relevant to the investigation.

The entrepreneur confirms that he owns the car, and that it is not reported stolen.

On Thursday morning, Säpo [the National Security Police] reported that it had taken over the case from police, and that it was classified as plotting a terror crime.

“That’s right. We have taken over the investigation and I am the preliminary investigation leader,” says Henrik Olin, a prosecutor for Säpo, to Aftonbladet.
