Gates of Vienna News Feed 6/30/2013

700,000 Italians have become unemployed since the global economic crisis began, and the number is expected to rise to 817,000 before the end of next year. By that time the unemployment rate in Italy is expected to rise to almost 14%.

In other news, the emergence of the deadly MERS virus in Saudi Arabia has caused concern among virologists that pilgrims on this year’s hajj will pick up the virus and spread it when they return to their home countries.

ZUS, British Style

In France, the no-go zones in culturally enriched suburbs are euphemistically referred to as Zones Urbaines Sensibles (ZUS, “Sensitive Urban Zones”). As of yesterday, Britain has officially designated at least one ZUS in metropolitan London.

From Facebook, via Henrik Ræder Clausen:

I hope some enterprising “persons of British background” are plastering these all over the lamp posts and bus shelters of Greater London.

The Child Victims of Groruddalen

Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer has translated an article from Document.no about the culturally enriched suburb of Groruddalen in Oslo.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the Groruddalen, here are previous articles on the topic:

The translated article:

Ask the ethnic Norwegian youths whether they feel safe in their own city

Ronny Ramberg from Tonsenhagen in Groruddalen [the Grorud Valley] has written an op-ed for Aftenposten about his own family’s experiences in the area. All four of his children have been mugged. In the op-ed he mentions that they have been subjected to verbal threats and robbed at gunpoint.

Young people feel unsafe in Oslo, says Ronny Ramberg, while politicians who have a more favorable attitude towards Multiculturalism praise the great food, the new dances and the enriching linguistic diversity of the new international community.

Are they incapable of, or they are simply refusing to see that certain groups of immigrants are openly working against the society that has welcomed them?

The op-ed mentions that there is a subdued hatred of immigrants among children that have been threatened with death and who have been robbed of their valuables by immigrants.

“We have four boys in our family. All of them have been mugged at gunpoint here in Oslo, and they have been subjected to violent threats such as stabbings. The perpetrators are immigrant youths. Last Saturday night one of our boys was mugged yet again at the bus stop outside our apartment. In our own local community, where we are supposed to feel safe and enjoy a good life, he was threatened at knifepoint and had his cell phone taken away from him.”

José Manuel Barroso, the president of the European Commission, has expressed his deep concern over the conflict between France and the rest of the European Union. He says that when French financial policy differs significantly from that of Germany, it is bad for all of Europe.

In other news, in the wake of last Thursday’s general strike, Portuguese unions are promising a “hot summer of conflict” protesting the austerity regime imposed by the EU.

Hindu Temple Desecrated by Muslims in Bangladesh

The situation of Hindus in Bangladesh is always precarious. The country is at least 90% Muslim, and any legal protection for non-Muslims is shaky at best.

Hindus are particularly vulnerable to spontaneous Islamic attacks, since they are “idolaters” under shariah, rather than “people of the book”. As Vlad points out in his introduction to the following video, Muslims in Bangladesh are simply following the example of their prophet — the “perfect man” — in what he did to the idols and idolaters of Mecca.

Many thanks to Achintya Das for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

All the News That Fits, We Print

All this past week the British MSM mostly — but not entirely — declined to cover the Home Office ban on Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer entering the UK.

After Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll were arrested earlier today, I wanted to see how much coverage the media were giving the incident. Google News didn’t have anything in its main headlines, so I went to “World” — still nothing.

Then I searched on “London”. The top news item, with 142 articles, was the Gay Pride Parade in London. The walk to Woolwich came next, with 62 articles. Most of those, however, were about the police ban on the walk, and were published yesterday or the day before.

There were twelve reports on the arrest of the EDL leaders:

Truth is Now Hate Speech in David Cameron’s Britain

As David Frost used to say every week on the BBC: “That Was The Week That Was”. The past week in the UK will surely be one to remember, both for Britons and for all citizens of what used to be known as the Free World.

Paul Weston has a few words to say to Prime Minister David Cameron and his associates about what they have done to their country.

Truth is now Hate Speech in David Cameron’s Britain
by Paul Weston

“In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

— George Orwell

British Home Secretary Theresa May’s ban on civil rights activists Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller entering Britain is yet another example of our ruling elite’s total capitulation to Islam, a political and cultural/religious ideology which shares its core beliefs with Nazism.

I wasn’t intending to write on this subject; it has already been covered by various authors, but the following email I received from a Canadian WWII soldier changed my mind. Lance Bombardier Richard Field served in the Royal Canadian Artillery Regiment and fought for his country and the West as a young man in Europe in WWII. He is now fighting against resurgent Islam, which he correctly identifies as a threat greater even than that of Hitler’s Nazis. Mr Field wrote the following:

“As a Canadian who went to England during WWII as a 19 year old soldier and went into combat in North West Europe to defend our freedoms. The bile rises in my throat at the pitiful behavior of David Cameron and the policies of Britain in regard to anyone from anywhere in the Free Western world being told they cannot come and tell the truth about Islam and the end of our civilization if the political theocracy of that evil is allowed to prevail. I have heard Pamela Geller speak. She not only describes Islam’s theocratic plans to dominate all counties on earth but teaches us how to fight the battle peacefully. Cameron and the British government are cowards, frightened that the Islamists will react violently. This government must be replaced with men and women of the Churchillian and Thatcher courage of steel and purpose. In the meantime the English Defense League and Liberty GB will have to man the barricades until Cameron and his ilk are hung drawn and quartered for treasonous behavior.”

Mr. Field is quite correct that Cameron and company are behaving in a treacherous manner, although perhaps — just perhaps — hanging, drawing and quartering is taking it a step too far… I think a public trial based on Nuremberg is very much needed, though, and if found guilty, banishment to Islamabad or Timbuktu would be quite an adequate punishment for their cowardly appeasement and betrayal of free speech and democracy — both of which exist today only because of the blood and sacrifice of millions of brave, patriotic and decent men like Mr. Field.

Mr. Cameron’s ideological allies in this shameful travesty include the usual assortment of far-left extremists such as Nick Lowles of Hope not Hate, an organisation devoted to silencing any criticism of Islam, but which “puzzlingly” never talks at all about Islamic atrocities committed both in Britain and abroad. Mr Lowles, of course, comes from a Communist background and therefore supports the mass slaughter of millions in the name of his ideology, so we should not be surprised that he is currently allied with Islam, which continues to satisfy Lowles’ blood lust as its adherents rape, murder, torture and bomb their way around the world. Allahu Akhbar!

Lowles is “delighted” that he has managed to close down free speech in Britain (Stalin would have been proud of him), but Lowles was embarrassingly unable to answer Robert Spencer in a recent radio interview, when Spencer asked him to name just one example of anything he ever said in millions of words which could be labeled as “Islamophobic.” Lowles could not, of course, because he and his violent and extreme left-wing ilk don’t argue with facts and reality. “Racist and fascist” is their main point of attack as they studiously avoid the real racists and fascists in their midst — who possess both the correct skin colour and a bitter hatred for traditional Britain, which combination makes Islam the number one ideological ally of the quisling Left.

After the toe-curling failure of Lowles to defame Spencer, worse was to come for the Islamo-leftist alliance. Were the matter not so serious, the following exchange between imam Dadwallah and Robert Spencer would be comedy gold in its exposure of the pig-ignorant and evasive imam and the thoroughly biased BBC, which sought desperately to expose Spencer as a bigoted “Islamophobe.” The BBC interviewer allowed Robert to quote a small number of Koranic verses which smear Jews and Christians as unclean, along with a couple of fairly typical jihadist kill-all-the-non-Muslims sort of stuff:

Old England’s Done

In recognition of this week’s events, Vlad Tepes has created a graphic honoring the spirit of England:

When I saw the picture, it reminded me of an old song.

The following ditty was adapted from “Who Do You Think You Are Kidding, Mr. Hitler?”, (with “Choudary” exchanged for “Hitler”). The original was the theme song of a British TV program called Dad’s Army, which aired on the BBC when I was living in England back in the ’60s.

Tommy Robinson Arrested for Entering a Shariah-Controlled Zone

Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll, the leaders of the English Defence League, were arrested today in Tower Hamlets during their walk to Woolwich. Their crime? Entering a shariah-controlled area of London, where they were considered persona non grata by the Muslim inhabitants, who were expected to respond with violence.

There is now at least one official Islamic no-go zone in Britain. Presumably there are numerous others — in Birmingham, Bradford, Dewsbury, and all those other places where Muslims have claimed ownership of “their” areas. The Metropolitan police have now taken on the responsibility of enforcing the borders of these shariah-controlled zones, applying the rules laid down by the Islamic inhabitants:

In response to a recent series of “grooming” scandals in Britain, a new Muslim group has been formed to help teach Muslims that the Koran forbids all forms of sexual abuse. The group is accomplishing this purpose by issuing sermons that are read out by imams in mosques during Friday prayers.

In other news, the Saudi government has reaffirmed its ruling that women may not work as waitresses in restaurants, but only in the kitchen.

Tommy Robinson on the Walk to Woolwich

Tommy Robinson, the leader of the English Defence League, recorded a little talk last night about his planned charity walk through London to Woolwich tomorrow, where he and Kevin Carroll will lay wreaths at the site where Lee Rigby was murdered on May 22.

Tommy received a letter from Scotland Yard requesting that he detour around Tower Hamlets to avoid upsetting Muslims, provoking a violent response, and thereby causing a “breach of the peace”. He says that he has declined to comply, and will walk the route as planned:

Hat tip: Gaia.

Losing the Plot

Robert Spencer points out with dismay what many others have also noticed about yesterday’s essay by Melanie Phillips.

Ms. Phillips starts off on a high note, with a robust protest at the banning of Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer from the UK:

By banning from the country as extremists the American anti-jihadis Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller, the Home Secretary Teresa May has not only made herself look ridiculous but has sent the enemies of the United Kingdom the message that they have it on the run.

But then she feels compelled to emphasize her distaste for Mr. Spencer’s choice of British allies:

I do not support the approach taken by either Geller or Spencer to the problem of Islamic extremism. Both have endorsed groups such as the EDL and others which at best do not deal with the thuggish elements in their ranks and at worst are truly racist or xenophobic.

And then there’s this:

The result has been a serious blow to the credibility of these two writers, with particular damage being done to Spencer whose scholarship in itself is scrupulous. It has also split the defence against Islamic extremism, and handed a potent propaganda weapon to those who seek falsely to portray as bigoted extremists all who are engaged in the defence of the west against the Islamic jihad

[…]

Personally, I believe the EDL is not a respectable platform to join. [emphasis added]

“It has also split the defence against Islamic extremism”??

Ms. Phillips has evidently failed to realize that if it weren’t for the English Defence League, she and all the other oh-so-posh Brits who oppose Islamic extremism could easily fit in a single double-decker bus without even needing to use the upper deck.

I mean, doesn’t she see what’s going on in her own country?
