Gates of Vienna News Feed 9/30/2017

As Catalonia comes down to the wire on its independence referendum, the Spanish government has taken concerted actions in an attempt to prevent the vote from taking place. Catalan activists occupied school buildings that will be used as polling places, to prevent the Madrid government from shutting them down.

In other news, a man who was stabbed outside a mosque in the English city of Birmingham is fighting for his life. Police have a suspect in custody, and are investigating a possible racial or religious motive for the incident.

Antifa Time

The “anti-fascists” were busy today, beavering away in opposition to free speech in Ottawa and using slings to throw rocks at police in Gothenburg.

It would be useful to step back from the specific actions of these antifas, and attempt to grasp the larger forces at work. But first let’s take a look at what happened today.

Regular readers have seen numerous translations here from the Czech and Slovak by Xanthippa, who relocated to Canada from Czechoslovakia when it was a Socialist Republic and the Iron Curtain was still in place. Xanthippa went to Parliament Hill in Ottawa this afternoon to speak at a free speech rally, which was beset — as such rallies always are — by violent “anti-fascist” protesters. She left this comment at our blog after she returned home:

Just came back from a Free Speech rally on Canada’s Parliament Hill.

About 30 to 50 of us, and the 500 or so (many paid for) Antifa/Labour Unions/Communists (yes, they were flying the Soviet flag) repeatedly tried to rush us and do us bodily harm.

RCMP, some in full riot gear, some with powerful-looking weapons, held them back, but the Antifa+ thugs kept rushing them, squeezing us into smaller and smaller area before ordering and escorting us off the Hill.

We could not even take our equipment with us, had to return for it ‘later’.

After she returned from the front lines on Parliament Hill, Xanthippa was interviewed about the day’s events:

And here’s an account of what happened by a member of a group called the Proud Boys. Near the end of this clip you can hear the antifas chanting “Nazi scum — off our streets!”:

The antifas also took exception to the opinions of anti-immigration activists in Quebec.

On the other side of the Atlantic, antifa forces thronged the streets of the Swedish city of Gothenburg. Their actions against the police were noticeably more violent than those of their counterparts in Ottawa, possibly because the Swedish police are more restrained in their responses than are the Mounties.

Here are two videos of the same event today in Gothenburg, showing the antics of Swedish antifas: Clip1,Clip 2.

Antifas have also been active recently in the USA. To get a sense of the extent to which things have escalated, watch Steven Crowder’s video about an undercover infiltration of Antifa that revealed their plans to use more serious weapons than rocks and sticks — weapons that can cause serious injury, or even death.

The “anti-fascists” have undoubtedly been busy elsewhere in the Western world, but these are just the reports that crossed my desk today.

*   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *   *

The above accounts are fairly representative of the behavior of “anti-fascists” throughout the West. None of their actions should come as a surprise. So why not take a look at the larger picture, of which each black-masked stone-throwing flag-carrying antifa is just a miniscule part?

What we see here is what the antifas do whenever free-speech advocates or anti-immigration activists gather in groups of five or more. It’s very predictable: If you hold a rally in support of the First Amendment, you can expect a large crowd of black-masked thugs to show up and throw rocks at you (and you can also expect the media to report that “violence erupted” at the event, as if both sides were equally at fault — but that’s another story).

At this point, we should take a break from reporting on the atrocities perpetrated by the antifas, and instead try to examine the larger picture.

Imagine that I venture outside my front door during a violent thunderstorm. I get pelted by hailstones as large as golf balls, and almost get struck by lightning. I recoil in horror, hurry back inside, and close the door behind me. And then I show everyone else my video of the Sturm und Drang so they can appreciate what I just went through.

The next day, dark clouds gather again, and I go outside and repeat the same process.

And then the same thing the next day, and the day after that.

At some point I might want to look at the epi-phenomena that lie behind my terrifying experiences. I might want to study up on the thermodynamics of thunderstorms, or look into the meteorological records for my area to understand the weather patterns that lead to these violent tempests, rather than keep showing my videos of the hailstones whacking me on the top of the head.

That’s where we are with Antifa. That’s what they do, every time. They’re as predictable as hailstorms.

But the important question is: Why does this happen?

Soldiers Guard the Synagogue in Copenhagen

We reported in last night’s news feed that Denmark had pulled its regular border guards from the border with Germany and replaced them with soldiers from the army. At the same time, it had deployed soldiers to guard important landmarks.

When I read those news items, I didn’t realize that among the important landmarks was the synagogue in Copenhagen, but putting a guard around it makes sense.

Many thanks to Steen for sending these photos, which were taken earlier today.

I don’t know the significance of the broken plate glass window that can be seen in the top photo. If I learn anything more about it, I’ll post an update.

AfD to the German Government: Cease and Desist With the Term “Right-Extremist”

German law prohibits the government from using tendentious or biased characterizations of legally established political parties that hold seats in the Bundestag. The federal government violated that law with its descriptions of the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany). Germans are well-known sticklers for the rules, and a new legal ruling now requires that the government stop characterizing the AfD as “right-extremist”.

JLH, who translated the article below, includes these comments:

Ripe with contradictions irony and glory, the AfD arrives in force at the Bundestag, only to hear Frauke Petry take her leave of them. She won the battle to censure Björn Höcke for his “monument of shame” speech and prevent him from standing for the Bundestag, but spectacularly lost the battle to take the party mainstream. And two old guys, Gauland and Meuthen, and two women, Weidel and von Storch, piloted the party into parliament by “speaking truth to power”, and it looks like they’ve just gotten started.

Meanwhile, here is a maneuver that sets the government on its heels even before the first session begins. The Tea Party needed something like this against the IRS and assorted lefty enemies in Washington. This is what the Rule of Law is all about.

The translated article from the Bavarian daily Münchner Merkur:

Federal Authorities May No Longer Call AfD Right-Extremist

Federal authorities may no longer designate AfD as right-extremist. The party’s national executive board has pushed through a cease-and-desist injunctive order against the Federal Republic.

In ads recruiting employees to work in the area of right-extremism, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) may no longer show an image of the AfD Twitter account. As the Cologne attorney Ralf Höcker said on Thursday, the BKA signed an appropriate cease-and-desist order this week. In a June ad on Twitter for an employee in “internet evaluation in the area of right-extremism,” the BKA had posted a screenshot of — among others — an AfD Twitter account.

The attorney Carsten Brennecke, who had obtained the cease-and-desist order, comments on the order’s consequences as follows: “Contractual obligor is the Federal Republic of Germany. Neither the chancellor, nor her ministers nor the federal authorities may call the AfD right-extremist, whether in help-wanted ads or elsewhere.”

Furthermore, according to Brennecke, the Federal Republic must guarantee that all federal authorities are informed of this, so that there will be no further violation of rights. Otherwise, a contractual penalty will be assessed.

AfD Regional Head Bystron: “Defamation of the AfD as ‘Right-Extremist’ is a Violation of Rights”

“This is a great win for the AfD and an important precedent,” said the Bavarian AfD regional head and Bundestag candidate Per Bystron of his party’s successful implementation of a cease-and-desist order against the Federal Republic of Germany. “The Republic was forced to give in and submit to our demands. This much is clearly established: Defamation of the AfD as ‘right-extremist’ is illegal.”[1]

“When authorities are misused in a partisan fashion to propagandize against an opposition party, the responsible parties must be legally put in their place. We will not waver from this logical, constitutional path.”

The party’s Jörg Meuthen and Frauke Petry had another success at the Hessian Higher Administrative Court, which ordered the removal of a Facebook statement by Peter Feldmann, the mayor of Frankfurt am Main. In March, the SPD politician had written of an event planned by the Economic Club of Rhein-Main with the AfD chair, Petry: “AfD? DISINVITE!” The decision is legally valid.

The Mother of All Misdirections

Below is the latest from the Sharia TipSheet. See the original article for links, videos, and graphics.

The Mother of All Misdirections — U.S. Counterterrorism Training Still Hostage to Radical Islamist Thought

Will the Trump administration bring back counterterrorism training materials that focus on radical Islam? The Sharia TipSheet will stay on this story until the answer is clear. FOIA litigation is anticipated. To be continued…

On November 5, 2009 about 1:30 p.m. local time, Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan entered a building at Ft. Hood, shouted “Allahu Akbar” and opened fire with a laser-sighted weapon. He fanned his weapon, spraying bullets, before taking aim at individual soldiers. Two people charged him but were killed; a third was injured. Hasan moved outside the building where he shot down a police officer and targeted fleeing soldiers. Another police officer stopped Hasan with five shots as Hasan was reaching for a new clip. Hasan killed 13 and wounded more than 30 in his 10-minute shooting rampage. Seven victims were shot in the back. There was so much blood on the floor in the building that nurses had trouble reaching the wounded. The Obama administration called it an act of ‘workplace violence’ but, at his trial, Hasan told the court he was defending the Taliban against the U.S. military.

Army personnel who worked with Hasan knew he was a “ticking time bomb”. He had given presentations supporting the killing of non-Muslims, defending Osama Bin Laden, and justifying suicide bombers. He announced that Islam took precedence over the U.S. Constitution (which he had sworn to defend). He stated on multiple occasions that Muslims in the military could kill other service members. The Army did not rebuke him but instead gave him credit toward his academic requirements for his views.

These are some of the findings of a Senate Homeland Security Committee report — “A Ticking Time Bomb: Counterterrorism Lessons from the U.S. Government’s Failure to Prevent the Fort Hood Attack” (February 3, 2011) (pp. 27-31). The report cited the Defense Department’s “failure to address violent Islamist extremism by its name” and predicted “[i]t will be more difficult for the military to develop effective approaches to countering violent Islamist extremism if the identity and nature of the enemy cannot be labeled accurately.” (p. 48)

The report went on to recommend:

that the FBI should produce in-depth analysis of the ideology of violent Islamist extremism, the factors that make that ideology appealing to individuals (including U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents), and what ideological indicators or warning signs show that the individual is weighing or accepting the ideology. Our review also leads us to believe that the FBI also should provide sufficient training to its agents including: (1) ideological indicators or warning signs of violent Islamist extremism to serve as an operational reference guide, and (2) the difference between violent Islamist extremism and the peaceful practice of Islam. (p. 77)

Violent Islamist Extremism. Name the enemy. Understand the ideology. Develop more effective training. But just a few short months after the Ft. Hood report, the Obama administration would actually turn and go in the opposite direction — throwing out training materials directed at violent Islamist extremism, obfuscating the Islamist threat by cloaking it with other threats, and bringing in new materials and trainers to teach a Muslim Brotherhood-approved concoction called “Countering Violent Extremism” (CVE). CVE, which is still in place, takes the focus off of violent Islamist extremism, diluting it to nothingness with vague talk of extremist threats in general, as if the actions of the 9/11 hijackers and animal rights activists are somehow equivalent.

What Difference, At This Point, Does It Make?

The switcheroo from standard threat assessment to CVE has had a number of disastrous consequences:

German Psychiatrist: Muslim Immigrants Have an Insane Potential for Violence

The following clip from German state television aired on September 17, a week before the earthquake at the polls. It’s nearly unheard of that the congenital and cultural deficiencies of the “refugees” could be discussed so frankly on TV, and it’s especially remarkable given the political climate that prevailed in the weeks before the general election.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for translating the video and text below.

Notes on the video from PolitikStube:

It’s almost unbelievable that such clear words are being broadcast at PHOENIX and ZDF: The publicist Ulrich Reitz (FOCUS) and the psychiatrist Christian Peter Dogs use very bold and definite language about why the established parties have failed in their assessment of the refugee crisis.

Thanks to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

Here’s a detailed article about the discussion on ZDF, from Epoch Times:

Psychiatrist on ZDF: Today’s Migrants cannot be integrated — Politicians are ignoring the fears and concerns of citizens

Politicians aren’t taking the concerns of the citizens seriously — that’s what the psychiatrist Christian Dogs says on a ZDF show. Everyone that criticizes German asylum policies is immediately being labeled as “sick” and “right-wing”. All the while the migrants are a “ticking time bomb in our country” with their “insane potential for violence”, says the psychiatrist.

The saying, “We are not afraid!” after each terror attack is nothing more than an empty phrase, says Christian Peter Dogs. He was the leading physician at the Panorama Clinic in Scheidegg for years, and is now the leading Physician at the Max-Grundig Clinic.

On September 16th, 2017, he spoke on Peter Hahne’s talk show on the topic “The power of fear — exploitation or reality?” His dialog partner was the journalist Ulrich Reitz, former chief editor of the news magazine “FOCUS”.

Dogs: Politics pander to citizens without taking them seriously

Right at the beginning of the show Dogs criticized current politicians who merely mollify people with the slogan “We are not afraid!”, instead of taking them seriously.

They are trying to influence the people with slogans, the journalist Reitz explains. That way nobody would inquire any further about the politicians’ solutions for these problems.

“When a terror attack happens in one of the European capitals, politicians stand there mostly clueless, and that is their big fear. Politicians themselves are afraid,” Reitz emphasizes.

For years problem have been suppressed, the psychiatrist said critically. People who would question and scrutinize the refugee policies of the government, were labeled “sick” and “right-wing”. Not taking the people seriously is the biggest mistake of the government, says Dogs.

Reitz: Politicians are afraid, but they also abuse this fear

Politicians aren’t just afraid themselves, but they also abuse this fear, Reitz asserted. “When Frau Merkel presents herself as the inherent embodiment of security, then this is an exact reflex to the fact that people are very unsettled and uncertain. And Frau Merkel says, ‘I am security.’ End of story. She is the biggest profiteer of fear politics,” says the journalist.

Mutti, Like Mohammed, Is Without Error

In the following brief video clip, German Chancellor Angela Merkel responds to a question about what she would do differently, given that her party just had its worst showing at in a national election since 1949. Her answer? Nothing. Nothing at all. I dindu nuffin wrong.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for translating the video and the accompanying text. Here’s the introduction from Politikversagen, where the video was posted:

Pigheaded obstinacy. All that’s left is stubbornness.

Not even after her historic electoral dysfunction can the grandest Chancellor of all times see any mistakes in her decision-making. Any resemblances to the Führer bunker or the ZK of the SED [Central Committee of the Communist Party of the DDR] are certainly totally coincidental.

Thanks to Vlad Tepes for uploading this video:

Translator’s remarks:

Merkel is giving her best Hillary impression, minus all the blame, because she hasn’t lost yet. If Merkel had lost the election, she and Hillary could join together and go on a world blame tour. Beware of the wrath of misunderstood and rejected feminazis when all they want to do is destroy civilization. Why can’t we understand them better?

Judean Spongiform Encephalopathy

I’ve written many times about a mental ailment I call the Screaming Nazi Heeber-Jeebers. In the wake of last Sunday’s election in Germany, the leftist media — which means almost all media west of the Iron Curtain, on both sides of the Atlantic — have developed a severe case of the SNHJ, all because of the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany).

Take a look at the Israeli press, and you’ll see how alarmed the op-ed writers are. Yes, it’s understandable that they might be nervous about the rebirth of German nationalism. And it’s not just leftist Jews; I noticed the same alarmist rhetoric from people who are otherwise on the same side, some of my favorite writers.

However, it’s a good idea to take a deep breath, step back from the yammering screen, and consider what’s actually happening in Europe. If you’ve been watching German politics for the past few years, you will have noticed that Jew-hatred is not a platform plank for the AfD. Jew-hatred comes primarily from the Left, just as it did in the 20th century. Only this time the Left has sub-contracted the hate-work to the “New Germans”, the Muslim immigrants that they have willingly — eagerly, with malice aforethought — imported into their country by the millions.

Then, when the inevitable happens, and attacks on Jews by Muslims become commonplace — as they already are in France — the Gutmenschen can throw up their hands in fastidious surprise and exclaim, “I’m shocked! Shocked, I tell you! I have no idea where all this anti-Semitism came from!”

Egri Nök and I had a brief conversation about all this on skype earlier today:

Baron:   What bugs me about Jews, even Jews in Israel, is this: They are freaking out over the AfD results, and there is ZERO evidence that AfD would be harmful to Jews at all. Yet there are mountains of evidence, both statistical and anecdotal, that the policies of Merkel, Schulz, etc. are extremely harmful to Jews, especially in the long term. Once the country gets fully Islamized, the Jews in Germany can either move to Israel, or kiss their a** goodbye.
    That’s what bugs me.
I read an op-ed yesterday in an Israeli outlet, some [less than intelligent person] freaking out over AfD.
Jews are supposed to be SMART, for crying out loud!
Egri:   I know, I had to unfollow an Israeli military guy who is totally pro-nationalist, pro-military, but was freaking out over AfD.
Baron:   It’s a brain disease of some sort — Mad Jew Disease, probably spread by eating contaminated matzo.
Egri:   The Chinese — who are supposed to be really really smart, too, and I can kind of confirm that — are having a meeting at their 19th Communist Party Congress about the AfD, too.

Days of Awe

An Afterword by Dymphna

Given the heated hysteria emanating from Israel’s MSM about the purported anti-Semitism of Germany’s new right-wing party, it would be a good idea to step back for a moment to look at the larger picture from within the framework of Judaism itself.

Is it irony or synchronicity that this media-driven fear comes at precisely the time of year for observant Jews to participate in and celebrate the most solemn High Holy Days? Those ten days from Rosh Hashanah (the eve of September 20th just past) to Yom Kippur (the eve of September 29th) are designed to draw one to reflect on reality and one’s personal behavior in the larger community during the last year. Rather than being distracted by the hobgoblin shadows the Left throws up to keep one chained in fear, a wise Jew incorporates what he knows into the larger scheme of things.

Culture-Enriching Sexual Abuse on a Swedish Bus — But the Driver Doesn’t Want to Know

Many thanks to FouseSquawk for this translation from Fria Tider:

The now-convicted man (insert) has already been convicted of abusing several Swedish women — but cannot be deported.

Nobody on the bus intervened when man threatened to rape girls

September 27, 2017

All passengers were silent and pretended to see nothing when an Arab man on a bus loudly threatened to rape two Swedish teenage girls and called them whores. Instead the girls got chewed out by the bus driver, who threatened to throw them off the bus when they told the man to stop.

The two girls had to take a bus from Augustenborgstorget in Malmö one evening in May 2016. At the stop stood a 38-year-old Arab, now sentenced to a month’s imprisonment.

He remarked on the fact that the girls were each eating a candy bar.

“Is it good? If you want to suck on a big club you can suck on mine,” he explained.

The man, who has an immigrant background from Tunisia, and who has been convicted of abusing several Swedish women, continued to comment on the appearance of girls and said that they were dressed like sluts. As they got on the bus, the man looked at the bus driver and proclaimed:

“Look what nice a**es they have!”

The girls sat in the middle of the bus and the man sat behind them and continued to harass them:

“Habibi, habibi, I’ve raped your mothers!” he said, threatening to rape even the girls.

He turned especially towards one girl and threatened to first drug her and then rape her:

“You still have too big an a**, but I do not care, I’ll take you in the a**,” said the Arab.

When she said they were only 14 years old to get the Arab to quit, he just said that he didn’t care and that he would “take them in the a**” anyway.

The girl, who was terrified, responded to the fact that nobody in the bus said anything. Everyone just looked away. However, the driver reacted — by threatening to throw her off the bus when she shouted at the man and desperately asked him to stop.

“He told me to get off the bus, but I said it was not me who should be off, but it was the man who should be thrown off for what he was doing. But nobody in the bus said anything in my defense; everyone just sat quietly,” said the girl during police interrogation.

Fahrenheit 451, Version 2.0

Mein Kampf is the notorious autobiography written in the 1920s by Adolf Hitler, in which the future Führer laid out his plans for a revived Reich and the expansion of the German Volk into new territories in the East.

Last year the Bavarian government’s copyright for the book expired, and it became legally possible to print and distribute it again in Germany (as I understand it, it has never been illegal to possess or sell the original edition of the book, provided it is not used to promote right-extremist views).

However, it’s not legal for government employees to read it, not in public. That’s what an unfortunate public employee in Berlin discovered when he pulled out a copy of Mein Kampf to read in the break room. Now he’s out of a job.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for translating this article from B.Z.:

Mein Kampf in the break room: Job termination legal

An employee of the municipal public order office read Mein Kampf during in the break room and his job was terminated. Now, the labor court has ruled the judgment legal.

A uniformed employee represents the country and cannot show Nazi symbols: Because he took out of his backpack a copy of Hitler’s Mein Kampf with a swastika on the cover, a long-term employee of the municipal public order office has been terminated from his job.

The labor court in Berlin-Brandenburg rejected his appeal. He felt he was fired unfairly: Martin B. (39) has been employed since 2008 in the public order office in Berlin (€3,000 per month). As such, he wears a uniform for the Reinickendorf district. For €3,000 gross income per month he went after parking violators and dog owners.

In the break room he took out the book with the swastika

August 11, 2016. In the station’s break room, Martin B. grabs a book from his backpack. It’s the propaganda work Mein Kampf, author: Adolf Hitler. Original edition, swastika on the cover. “From the flea market,” he said. “Can’t read that here,” the shift superintendent intervenes. After twenty minutes of back and forth, he puts the book away again.
