“We Cannot Guarantee the Safety of Munich Any Longer”

On September 15, Brigitte Meier, Commissioner for Social Affairs in Munich, spoke at a meeting of the SPD (Social-Democratic Party of Germany) in Berlin about the “refugee” crisis in her city. She told the audience that Munich had reached the limit of what it could cope with, and unless the government could open up a rail hub further up the line, so that refugees could be transferred onwards, her city would be facing a humanitarian catastrophe.

Obama’s Iran Deal For Dummies

Well, not exactly for dummies. More precisely, it’s for those of us who are so traumatized by the fact of its existence that we keep avoiding the dirty details…

The information accompanying this video says:

Hollywood comedy legend David Zucker (“Airplane,” “Scary Movie,” “Naked Gun” films among many others) has written and produced this hilarious spoof on the disastrous Iran Nuclear Deal. In his trademark style, Zucker skewers the deal’s primary architects – President Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Kerry – and warns of the possible “Side Effects” that may result from the absurd agreement.

“Hilarious”? Not so much. “Absurd”? I wish. This deal is evil and destructive but not absurd. However, the foundation is a good conceit: to pose the problem as a pharmaceutical advertisement regarding the “side effects” of some new wonder drug. The tone of the voice-over is nigh-on perfect: soothing to the point that the viewer is lulled into ignoring the side-effects even as they are obvious for all to see. Just like real-life Big Pharma commercials.

What worries me most immediately is the $150,000,000,000 -yes, that’s billions – in straight cash we’re handing over to an entity that is currently the West’s worst enemy. Meanwhile, everyone sleeps through this new Obama horror, not realizing the extent of its evil. Oh, except for the Senate – they wake up long enough to rubber stamp an agreement which will increase the terror in the Middle East and North Africa and eventually lead to chaos in America. Which many of us have come to believe is the operative motive in most of Obama’s “legacy work”.

Here’s hoping for some push-back from the Republicans…yeah, I know. A vain hope indeed. We might as well be honest: America is a one-party political system. We’re run by the Treason Party now and they don’t even bother hiding it anymore. As Obama told us, explaining why he didn’t need to cooperate with anyone else: “I won”. Indeed he did win. And the country lost, big time. The question has become whether or not America can recover from Obama and how many generations it may take. Another question presumes that we don’t recover and seeks to know how the continent will divide once things fall apart.

For more information on David S. Zucker, here’s his wiki, which includes a list of his films and a chart of recurring actors.

I’m definitely in need of some laughter. I’ll have to figure out if our internet speed will permit us to download Airplane. As our readers well know, we’re not culture vultures. No TV, no movies, no radio…so a movie made in 1980 ought to be just our speed,eh?

I just wish it were enough to take away the dread this Iran treachery induces.

Poland Says: No to This Islamic Horde! Stop Hijra!

Below is a video of an “Islamophobic” chant by football fans at the soccer match of Legia Warsaw vs. Zaglebie Lublin, held on Friday, September 11. As Vlad said, “If this were to happen in the UK, the entire stadium would have to be made into a prison.”

Green Infidel, who translated the chants and banners for subtitles, includes these remarks: “Notice the chanting gets louder with every repetition, and at 0:12, a banner is visible, saying ‘Stop Hijra!’ Looks like the Legia fans know their Islamic vocabulary…”

Gates of Vienna News Feed 9/18/2015

After welcoming more than 17,000 “refugees” in just two days, Croatia reversed its policy, and closed its border with Serbia to new immigrants. It assisted the migrants’ efforts to reach Hungary and Slovenia, but Slovenia has closed its border with Croatia, and Hungary impounded the train loaded with immigrants that was sent from Croatia. Meanwhile, more migrants arrived in Finland today than had arrived during a single day since the Russian Revolution in 1917.

In other news, Syria has reportedly begun using the new military hardware sent by Russia, including airplanes, to fight the Islamic State. Perhaps coincidentally, the U.S. Secretary of Defense and the Russian Foreign Minister held direct talks by telephone for the first time since the Ukrainian crisis began.

Tonight’s Missile Attack on Sderot

Our Israeli correspondent MC (who is not in Israel at the moment) sends this report about the latest Palestinian rocket attack on Sderot.

Tonight’s missile attack on Sderot
by MC

I have checked with the folks back home, and all are OK.

The alarm took everybody by surprise. L was watching a movie and J was next door, the missiles struck (there were 2 explosions) as the alarm started. They got about four seconds warning.

There is no Iron Dome at Sderot at the moment; they are deployed elsewhere.

We can expect more missiles this coming week, as it is Yom Kippur and then Sukkot. The Muslims love to help us keep the feast days, with deadly displays of their latest hardware…

Not respecting Ramadan is Islamophobia, of course. Does anyone think that this stinks of hypocrisy?

Hey, Reykjavik, how about a comment on the illegal bombing of civilians?

The State of Free Speech in Europe in 2015

Most readers are aware that Anne Marie Waters had planned to host a Mohammed cartoon exhibit in London today, but was forced to cancel the event due to the credible threat of violence against it. In response, she wrote the following essay on the significance of what did not happen today.

The State of Free Speech in Europe in 2015
by Anne Marie Waters

This is not how I expected to spend September 18th. I was supposed to be hosting an exhibition of harmless cartoons, along with others in this country and elsewhere who know the true value of freedom. Instead, I will write about it — while I still have the freedom to do at least that.

The Mohammed cartoon exhibition did not take place in London, not only because of the threat to those involved, and their families, but also because the Left went for our jugular and ensured that others would not support us. The despicable Hate Not Hope (I refuse to write that group’s name as they do), put together a complete fiction, aiming to intimidate others and discourage them from joining us. The far-Left extremists, accompanied by a Christian extremist, pretended that Tommy Robinson and I were using the cartoons to incite civil war. This was based on about ten minutes of speculation, to my memory, mostly initiated by said Christian extremist, stuck within about four hours of conversation — mostly about the Sharia Watch website. This is how low the Left is willing to stoop. Another left-wing blogger wrote that I might sue Vive Charlie; something else based on no truth whatsoever.

The cowardly National Secular Society, which is increasingly socialist rather than secularist, decided to do the bidding of Hate Not Hope and their comrades, and reject the only people trying to take a stand on the vital issue of Mohammed cartoons.

Their achievement? They punished real free speech campaigners, sent a message to those who might be minded to speak out: don’t, and more importantly sent a message to the jihadis that Britain already belongs to them, and they only have to pressure us and we will crumble and submit. Congratulations yet again owed to the bullying, destructive, and downright corrupt British political Left.

One of two things is going on here. Such people are either incredibly stupid and have no idea of the evil acts they are carrying out, while others know perfectly well what they’re doing displaying their own moral deficiency. For the stupid, here are a few points for you to digest:

The array of punishments for blasphemy and apostasy (leaving Islam) in Pakistan include the death penalty. This retribution is applied by the state and constitutes the law of the land; it is not the ranting of an extreme religious fringe that can be safely ignored by the populace.

Asia Bibi, for example, a young Christian mother is awaiting execution in that country, having been found guilty of insulting Mohammed. Her death sentence was upheld by the country’s courts.

The array of punishments for blasphemy and apostasy in Saudi Arabia includes the death penalty. This retribution is applied by the state and constitutes the law of the land; it is not the ranting of an extreme religious fringe that can be safely ignored by the populace.

Raif Badawi, for example, is a writer who was sentenced to 1,000 lashes (which will almost certainly kill him) as well as 10 years in prison for insulting Islam.

The array of punishments for blasphemy and apostasy in Iran include the death penalty. This retribution is applied by the state and constitutes the law of the land; it is not the ranting of an extreme religious fringe that can be safely ignored by the populace.

A young cartoonist, for example, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for mocking the Islamic government. The artist Atena Farghadani is currently serving a long stretch behind bars as punishment for depicting government officials as animals. She was later charged with ‘indecency’ for shaking the hand of her male lawyer.

These are facts. This is the truth, and it remains the truth regardless of how much you want to deny it. Another fact you will want to deny is that these brutal and oppressive punishments are justified and maintained by one thing and one thing only — Islam. This is an indisputable, verifiable, objective fact.

Yet another fact is that we have experienced, and are experiencing, massive and unprecedented migration from Islamic countries in to Western democracies in recent decades. This migration has had, and will continue to have, a chilling effect on two fundamental freedoms without which democracy and freedom cannot exist — the rights and freedoms of women, and the ability to speak our minds.

Here in Britain, those of us who speak out against Islam and its increasing influence in our country soon find ourselves marginalised as “racists”, “hate-mongers”, and “Islamophobes” — despite the fact that what we say is true. Being labelled a “racist” in Britain can, and does, mean job losses, public blacklisting, and can even bring criminal charges. There are numerous examples of this to be found:

Angela Merkel: “This Is Not My Country”

Yes, I know Mrs. Merkel said that as part of a dependent clause, with a conditional preceding it. But as far as I can tell, the conditions prescribed are now coming into effect, so it seems to be true: Germany is not her country.

Gates of Vienna News Feed 9/17/2015

After being thwarted by new barriers along the Serbian border with Hungary, huge throngs of “refugees” are now making their way through Croatia in an attempt to continue onward through Austria into Germany. Locals in Croatia are warning the migrants to watch out for minefields, which are still in place along parts of the border with Serbia as a relic of the Balkan wars of the 1990s.

In other migration news, migrants who got off the welcome bus at a remote location in Sweden complained bitterly about their accommodations, which they said were too far away from shopping centers and other amenities. Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán warns that Europe may face an influx of up to 100 million migrants over the next several years.

In other news, due to low oil prices, Kuwait has seen its revenues drop by almost half. A number of Gulf states are facing budget deficits after decades of surpluses.

Germany’s Official Suicide Note

The video below is an excellent exposition by Ezra Levant on the absurdity and suicidal madness of Germany’s policy towards the massive ongoing incursion of Muslim “refugees” into the European heartland.

You’ll notice that Mr. Levant includes a subtitled video of Angela Merkel, interleaved with his commentary. As it happens, that video was translated by Nash Montana and subtitled by Vlad. It’s gratifying to see our hard work being put to such good use:

The Islamic Basis of the Islamic State
by Fjordman

An article from September 2015 by the counter-terrorism expert Will McCants provides one of the most extensive accounts so far about the shadowy man the world has come to know as the leader of the Islamic State.[1]

Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim al-Badri was apparently born in 1971 in Samarra, an ancient Iraqi city on the edge of the Sunni Triangle north of Baghdad. He was the son of a pious man who taught Koranic recitation in a local mosque. Ibrahim was withdrawn and quiet, but also good at football. As a teenager, he led neighborhood children in Koran recitation. Even in his youth, he developed a reputation for being very pious. He went on to earn a doctoral degree in Koranic studies.

According to William McCants, “Early on, Ibrahim’s nickname was ‘The Believer.’ When he wasn’t in school, he spent much of his time at the local mosque, immersed in his religious studies; and when he came home at the end of the day, according to one of his brothers, Shamsi, he was quick to admonish anyone who strayed from the strictures of Islamic law. Now Ibrahim al-Badri is known to the world as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the ruler of the Islamic State or ISIS, and he has the power not just to admonish but to punish and even execute anyone within his territories whose faith is not absolute. His followers call him ‘Commander of the Believers,’ a title reserved for caliphs, the supreme spiritual and temporal rulers of the vast Muslim empire of the Middle Ages. Though his own realm is much smaller, he rules millions of subjects.”

He comes from a lower middle-class family that claims to be descend from Muhammad himself. Baghdadi was thus not among the wealthiest members of his society, but he was not dirt poor by local standards, either. This once again confirms that many Jihadists come from a middle-class background. A few even hail from very wealthy families, for instance Osama bin Laden. Jihadist terrorism is not caused by poverty. This Marxist-inspired claim has been disproved many times.

Baghdadi also joined the Muslim Brotherhood in Iraq. His participation there has previously been confirmed by the Qatar-based Egyptian scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who is widely considered a spiritual guide to the Muslim Brotherhood.[2] Admittedly, al-Baghdadi seems to have belonged to a militant subgroup of the MB. His membership of it is nevertheless significant.

Western leaders such as U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President François Hollande or German Chancellor Angela Merkel have repeatedly claimed that the actions of the Islamic State have nothing to do with Islam. This claim is simply not credible. Al-Baghdadi is no doubt a cruel man who leads an incredibly brutal group of people. Yet despite his many flaws, he seems to have been a devout and pious Muslim man throughout his entire life. Already as a teenager, he was referred to as “The Believer” by other Arab Muslims. That tells us something. He grew up in the heartland of the ancient Islamic Caliphate, in a territory that was ruled by Arab conquerors nearly fourteen centuries ago. His mother tongue is Arabic and he has had many years of education. He is able to read the Koran and other Islamic religious texts in their original language. He has a passionate interest in Koranic studies and is knowledgeable in this field.

Available evidence indicates that al-Baghdadi has been a serious and dedicated student of Islamic religion and Islamic law for as long as he has lived. He certainly knows more about these subjects than Western political leaders do. There is little reason to question that Baghdadi is sincere in his belief that the barbaric actions of his state represent Islam in its purest form. He quotes perfectly authentic statements from the Koran and the hadith in support of his rulings. Judging by the enthusiasm the Islamic State generates among a disturbing number of Muslims, millions of Muslims worldwide recognize ISIS’ version of Islam as true and authentic.

A few comments from me.

A Nightmare, Reborn

Our Central European correspondent Max Denken returns with an overview of the “migration crisis” — not just the current metastasis of the disease in Europe, but also the symptoms exhibited throughout the twilight of the Western world.

Update: One paragraph of the text has been revised to answer objections raised by readers in the comments.

A Nightmare, Reborn

Part 1

by Max Denken

Hope for thee, suicide for me

Like Goethe’s Young Werther (The Sorrows of Young Werther (German: Die Leiden des jungen Werthers, 1774) Europe is committing suicide.

An unrequited love, as was the case with Goethe’s protagonist, except in this case it’s not for Lotte but for non-White, non-Christian “humanity.” An inability to take one’s own side in a conflict — ditto Werther, plus that’s the very definition of “Progressive.” A conviction, like Werther’s, that her suicide is necessary to restore balance and happiness — in her case, of the world. And voilà: the shot booms.

This being the 21st century, a pastiche of Beethoven’s and Schiller’s Ode to Joy is playing in the background, affirming the suicide’s undying “celebration” of the “European values” of “unity in diversity, freedom, peace, and solidarity.” Which would have been great, had the diversity not been artificially torqued to include at least 50 million aliens from all corners of the Third World. The great majority of whom are unalterably alien and unabsorbable Muslims.

Now even that has been superseded by prostration before a drowning tide of “refugees” from Africa and the Middle East — mostly Muslims, too. Muslims that Europe has fought at least ten major wars between AD 711 and 1699 to keep out of Europe, not counting dozens of bloody regional wars that individual nations had to wage to protect themselves from Islamic aggression, e.g. Russia (nine wars with Turkey alone ending 1878), Poland, Hungary, Byzantium, Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania and others.

All that is accompanied by massive propaganda, lying, obfuscation, subterfuge, blackmail of dissenters and sheer terror at the hand of the states’ and EU’s ruling elites, hired “anti-racist” hounds, journalists groomed by postmodern Marxist mentors, freelance Antifa shock troops, and their Muslim allies. The psychotic illusion started long ego, when Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi’s foisted his European Union “dream” onto the European elite in the 1920s. The elite then foisted it on a bamboozled population, beginning in the 1950s-60s (see Jean Monnet, Giscard d’Estaing, Helmut Kohl and others) [1].

Coudenhove-Kalergi, a rich cosmopolitan aristocrat who, like today’s European and American potentates of the New World Order, never held a real job or balanced a checkbook, wrote in his Practical Idealism:

“The man of the future will be of mixed race. Today’s races and classes will gradually disappear owing to the vanishing of space, time, and prejudice. The Eurasian-Negroid race of the future, similar in its appearance to the Ancient Egyptians, will replace the diversity of peoples with a diversity of individuals.”[2]

He also wrote, in his Pan-European Manifesto (Eng. trans. Alfred A. Knopf, 1926, as Pan Europe) “Every great political happening began as a Utopia and ended as a Reality.” How true: we might adduce such additional examples as the Children’s Crusade in 1212, Communism, Maoism, National Socialism, and even Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple, of Jonestown, Guyana fame.

If Coudenhove-Kalergi is the utopian Karl Marx of “Pan-Europeanism,” those who are implementing his ideas — among them recipients of the European Prize Coudenhove-Kalergi: Herman Van Rompuy and Angela Merkel — are its “realist” Lenins. After all, they see daily how Europe, under their ministrations, is turning into a dark nightmare, though with faster trains and healthier food than in bygone days.

In his 2012 acceptance speech for this prize, Mr. Van Rompuy described the unification (and deconstruction) of Europe as a “peace project.” This, in an era when the Coudenhovian elite’s pet demographics butcher British soldiers or Dutch artists on the streets of their own hometowns, “groom” tens of thousands of little British girls and rape tens of thousands of Scandinavian women, shoot up with military rifles French, Belgian, Danish and German autochthon citizens, toss hand grenades in Sweden and petrol bombs in France, blow up commuter-stuffed trains in Spain and trash bins in Italian high schools, set up terror-ruled sharia “no-go” zones all over Europe, decapitate in Syria, and now riot, attack ferries, trains and buses, pull people out of their cars by their hair, and murder Nigerian Christians at sea and Sicilian grandparents on land.

Neither the exact number of “refugees” is available nor their composition; too scary, that. Official European statistics are as camouflaged as are the pixelated, skin tone-altered photos and videos of perpetrators of major crimes featured in European media reports.

The UN has stated that the number of “migrants risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean to Europe” has soared past 300,000 so far this year, and some 2,500 more have died trying. That the migrants’ risking their lives or “dying while trying” is not the business of Europe but the business of the migrants can no longer be mentioned in the estrogen-dripping mental asylum of “humanist values” that Europe has become. Quite like the inability of Americans to comprehend that all modes of immigration are meant to benefit the country taking in the immigrants; whether it helps the immigrants is their concern alone.

According to Frontex — a curious European creation supposed to guard EU’s borders while keeping them open and facilitating invading “refugees’” access — more than 350,000 migrants were “detected at the EU’s borders” in January-August 2015, compared with 280,000 detections in 2014.

Confusing European Commission reports (Eurostat) compel researchers to pore over the numbers. Per BBC News, Eurostat’s data shows that the number of asylum claims in the EU rose to 626,065 in 2014, up from 435,190 in 2013. The 626k figure in 2014 does not quite agree with the Frontex “detections” of 280k in 2014. Oxford’s Benjamin Henning, on his geography/demography blog, computes 570k asylum claims for the same year, based on the same Eurostat data. But then, none of these counts the uncountables anyway. Neither can Eurostat’s number of 417,430 officially recorded asylum claims in the first half of 2015, computed by Henning, compared to 350k “detected” through August by Frontex.

Eurostat’s tables named “Country of immigrants’ origin” instead show European countries in which the immigrants are present. Frontex has published some partial numbers that allow for an educated guess as to the origin of the refugees — in descending numerical order: Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Kosovo, Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa and Pakistan (BBC News report 1.9.2015). Libya is strangely missing, though it’s a major source of the invasion flotilla crossing the Mediterranean.

At any rate, all that is just the beginning. Preparing Europe to meet its destiny, the UN warns of “record high” 60 million displaced persons in broadening global conflicts. “The Great Migration will be with us for decades,” advises a recent headline in the British Telegraph, advising wisely, “It is not war, but money that drives people abroad. That is not going to change any time soon.” However, infected by the standard Western cultural spongiform encephalitis, the Telegraph treats “migration” as though it were a supreme force of nature, uncontrollable and irresistible.

Africa’s population, now 1.1 billion, is projected to grow to 2.4 billion by 2050. Pew Research Center estimates that the Muslim population of the Middle East and Africa alone will have grown to 552 million in 2050, from 317 million in 2010. India, whose current population approaches 1.3 billion, recently announced that it will be seeking “to emigrate” 300 million of its own. If you don’t know already where all this Third World surplus will seek to relocate, you are either an important member of the European Commission, an official in the Obama administration, or a do-good Christian, Jew or “humanist” white person, particularly of the female persuasion.

Already, well over 12 million — 20% of France’s population — are the foreign-born and their children, most of them African and Middle-Eastern Muslims. The respective ratios are 22% in Sweden and 16% in Norway. Sweden (population 9.6 million) is the top self-dissolving nation with 33,000 “refugees” granted asylum in 2014, then Germany (pop. 86 million) with 48,000, France and Italy (21,000 each) and the UK (14,000).

In multiple European cities, the majority of male babies born in area hospitals are named Muhammad. Other than the name and the creed, it’s quite the same in the United States. There are 147 Latinos, 41 Blacks and six Whites born every hour in the United States — asserts a powerful consortium of megabusiness (e.g. MasterCard), the Obama White House (Cecilia Munoz, WH Director of Domestic Policy Council), race/ethnicity plunder groups (same Cecilia Munoz, ex Sr. V.P. of La Raza), politicians, and rich (and white) progressive do-gooders (e.g. Pew Charitable Trust) that assembled recently under the auspices of Washington Beltway “news” magazine National Journal. This can’t be true, yet, as the 2010 census shows that 54.4% of births were to non-Hispanic whites — however, it does show the ruling elite’s fond anticipation of that hallowed year, 2043, when the majority of U.S. population will be non-white. And in Sidney, Australia, schools are becoming “Anglo-ghettos,” with students of foreign background ranging from 52% in public high schools to 22% in independent schools (2011 stats; now it’s worse).

Both Europe and the United States have already lost control of their borders, but the consequences are direr for Europe. The strife, chaos, disorientation, despair and seeds of future decline, anarchy, tyranny, internecine war and genocide that Europe’s rulers have dumped on their subjects may be apprehended from a small roster of recent headlines, reproduced here for future archeologists of lost civilizations:

“Refugees” angry with Hungary’s closure of its Serbian border attempted to storm one of the border crossings, throwing rocks and other detritus at Hungarian police and soldiers on the other side. The Hungarians responded with tear gas and blasts from water cannons. Some migrants in Serbia took buses to the Croatian border, in hopes of finding an alternate route through Austria and thence to Germany.

In other news, an alert has been raised in Ghana over the recruitment of young Muslims for the Islamic State. It seems that impressionable young people in the Muslim-majority north of the country are showing susceptibility to propaganda from Boko Haram and other kinetic-activist groups.

The Terrorists Are Already Among Us

There has been much speculation about whether there are any terrorists for the Islamic State or other terror organizations among those “refugees” now streaming across the Balkans and Hungary into Austria and Germany. The following article from Zukunftskinder should put such speculation to rest: Yes, there are confirmed sightings of ISIS mujahideen amongst the migrant flood. And there are probably many more.

Many thanks to Nash Montana for the translation:

Are IS Terrorists already among us, disguised as refugees?

About a month ago, there was a report in the Badische Zeitung that a asylum seeker camp in Baden-Württemberg apparently had housed a suspected IS terrorist, that then was arrested. Interestingly, two days later the Sächsische Zeitung reported that the German government claims no knowledge about the possibility that IS terrorists disguised as refugees are being channeled into Germany.

Is this all just fear- and panic-mongering, or are things being glossed over and covered up?

If you look at these pictures currently circulating on Twitter, you can clearly see a different tune! In one picture, for instance, you will see a reporter from Estonia posing next to a fighter of Al Qaeda. But barely two years later, the reporter meets the same man again, dressed like any regular refugee, on his way to Germany.

On another picture we see how a fearless ISIS fighter poses with two very impressive weapons, and just a few short weeks later he stands and poses at the main train station in Munich, Germany.

And then there’s the poor, traumatized “refugee” with the birthmark on his cheek. He was spotted at the Macedonian border, making his way to Germany.

Refugee Crisis: Facts and Myths

The following informational brochure was composed by a European reader who volunteers for an organization that assists refugees in her country. She created this guide to counter the hype and disinformation surrounding the European “migration crisis”, and suggests that her brochure be reproduced and distributed to anyone interested in what is happening. Her explanations serve as an antidote to the all the media propaganda that currently saturates the airwaves and the intertubes.

This text is available in PDF format. It’s in a very readable font, and comes to seven pages when printed.

Refugee Crisis: Facts and Myths

How to answer the objections of pro-refugee friends and family

1. We have a duty to help those who flee war.

Answer: No war zone at the moment shares a border with the EU. Does our duty to help those who flee war also extend to those who have already been in safe areas, but chose to put themselves in harm’s way to reach Europe using smugglers?

2. If we don’t take the Syrians in, they are going to stay in Syria and die!

Answer: Again, most Syrians who reach Europe were already in Turkey, which is a peaceful country and welcomes Syrian refugees. Those who chose to come here were by no means under bombs and bullets before they came here, and could have stayed there and allowed the law to take its course and the UNHCR to resettle them in an orderly fashion.

3. But aren’t these boat refugees the poorest of the poor that we have to take pity on and care for anyway?

Answer: The average boat refugee has paid somewhere between $600 and $20000 (depending on how far he has traveled and by which means) dollars per person to the criminal human traffickers and smugglers to get to the country of his choice in Europe.

People with that kind of money at their disposal in the Third World are not poor by any means and can have a relatively comfortable life in whatever Middle Eastern region that they live in, and don’t need to come to us for help.

By contrast those refugees who are not leaving their camps in the Middle East and stay there patiently are the poorest ones, and they should be the object of our compassion. But now, unfortunately, because of this illegal influx of boat refugees, no time, money, or attention is left for us to devote to them, and this is indeed an unjust state of affairs that should have never been allowed to come about.

4. You mean we shouldn’t care and we shouldn’t help anybody?

Answer: Of course we don’t mean that. But help should be given wisely and in an orderly fashion. We also have to make sure that we help the refugees in a way which would not destroy our financial ability to help our own people and other people in need as well.

If instead of allowing and even encouraging all refugees to take risky journeys on inflated boats to come here, we were to close the borders of the EU and concentrate our efforts on helping the refugees who are in camps in the Middle East, and provided them with bigger and better camps and financial help, we would be able to help a lot more people at a much lower cost.
