Port Canaveral: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Back during the Bush administration there was a controversy over a proposal to contract with a company in Dubai to manage American ports. That deal was eventually killed, but the idea didn’t die — it was kept alive by the President Barack Hussein Obama, who has an even greater fondness for doing business with firms in the Muslim Middle East than George W. Bush did.

In 2015 the Obama administration awarded a contract for the management of Port Canaveral to a company called Gulftainer in the UAE. The Center for Security Policy has published a paper with details on this unsavory deal. The nexus of businesses and public officials connected with Gulftainer deal even spans the Sunni-Shi’ite divide.

Below is a press release about the paper that was sent out today by CSP.

Center Occasional Paper Exposes Nightmare Scenario:
Ominous Ties Raise Alarms About Foreign Entity’s Lease At U.S. Port

(Washington, DC): A new Center for Security Policy Occasional Paper authored by two intrepid and indefatigable researchers, Alan Jones and Mary Fanning, has brought to light a shocking fact: The family of Iraqi nuclear physicist Dr. Jafar Dhia Jafar, considered to be “the father of Iraq’s nuclear weapons program,” has been awarded a 35-year lease for cargo container operations at Port Canaveral, Florida.

According to Mr. Jones and Ms. Fanning’s paper, entitled “What Could Possibly Go Wrong?” Secret Deal Allows Company Tied to Saddam’s Nuclear Bombmaker, Iran and U.A.E. to Manage Key Florida Port Facilities, Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew unilaterally approved the lease for Gulftainer — a Middle Eastern ports company owned by the Emir of Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iraqi businessman Hamid Dhia Jafar — following two years of secret talks.

It is deeply concerning that Lew and the Obama administration decided to forego any national security threat analysis by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) which certainly seems in order given the nature and implications of this deal. After all, a similarly fraught arrangement — a contract for Dubai Ports World to manage a number of U.S. ports a decade ago — was submitted for CFIUS approval, and ultimately aborted.

In addition to being an important seaport in its own right, Port Canaveral is in close proximity to a number of key U.S. facilities — including the Navy’s East Coast ballistic missile submarine base, two U.S. Air Force Space Command bases and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

As the paper’s authors dug into the details surrounding this deal, they discovered — in addition to Gulftainer’s obvious and still potentially problematic ties to the UAE — a troubling array of connections linking it to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, and President Barack Obama, himself. For example, Obama’s former college roommates, one Indian and one Pakistani — who remain to this day his close friends — have personal and business relationships with the Jafar family.

Then, there are ominous connections to Iran, as well. Siamak Namazi is a former Iranian government official who, along with Trita Parsi, helped found the National Iranian American Council (NIAC). NIAC is considered to be the U.S. lobbying arm of the Tehran regime. Namazi, Parsi, and NIAC were all deeply involved in the negotiations that led to the “Obamabomb Deal”: the July 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran.

As the secret Gulftainer negotiations were underway from 2012-2014, Namazi served as the head of strategic planning for Crescent Petroleum. The company is another Jafar family business based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Crescent is closely involved in oil and gas projects with Teheran’s state-owned petroleum concern, the National Iranian Oil Company. Interestingly, Siamak Namazi was detained inside Iran around mid-October 2015 and remains in custody there as of December 2016. Among other things, that puts him conveniently beyond the reach of the FBI.

In unveiling the Center’s new Occasional Paper, its president, Frank J. Gaffney, observed:

Shootout in Milan

In the pre-dawn hours of this morning Anis Amri, the Tunisian mujahid identified as the man who drove a truck through the crowd at a Berlin Christmas market on Monday, was gunned down by Italian police at a checkpoint north of Milan. Mr. Amri was asked by police to produce his identity papers, and instead produced a gun, shooting and wounding a rookie policeman. The other officer returned fire, killing the suspect.

A couple of days ago, given the peculiar circumstances surrounding the identification of Anis Amri as the prime suspect, I predicted that the most likely outcome for the Berlin truck mujahid would be death in a shootout with police. That’s how it turned out, and now we’ll probably never know for certain whether there was anything hinky about the whole business.

In any case, however, Germans are safe from any further terror attacks, and can breathe a sigh of relief. Because there couldn’t possibly be any more stealth mujahideen amongst those millions of “refugees”, could there?

Many thanks to FouseSquawk for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

Below are excerpts from an article in La Stampa about the shootout in Milan that killed Anis Amri:

Berlin Market Attack Suspect Killed in Shootout in Northern Italy

The suspect in the Berlin Christmas market truck attack was killed in a pre-dawn shoot-out with police in a suburb of the northern Italian city of Milan on Friday, Italy’s interior minister said.

“The man killed was without a shadow of doubt Anis Amri,” Marco Minniti said, referring to the 24-year-old Tunisian who is suspected of driving the truck that smashed through a Berlin market on Monday killing 12 people.

Minniti told reporters that Amri was stopped by two policemen at around 3 a.m. (2200 EDT) in front of the Sesto San Giovanni train station, north of Milan.

When he was asked for his identification papers, Amri pulled a gun and shot one of the two policemen, lightly wounding him in the shoulder. He in turn was then shot dead by the police.

“These two extraordinary, extremely young men, simply by doing their duty, have done an extraordinary service to our community,” Minniti said. One of the two policemen had only just started service and was on his trial period.

A judicial source told Reuters that police had a tip off that Amri might be in the Milan area and that additional patrols had been sent out to look for him.

A rail ticket found on Amri’s body indicated he had traveled by high speed train from France to the northern Italian city of Turin, the source said. Amri then caught a regional train to the Milan suburbs.

Minniti gave very few details of the police operation, saying investigations were still in progress. He added that there could be “future developments”.

The Thwarted Jihad Attack in Melbourne

As reported in last night’s news feed, a major Islamic terror attack planned for Christmas Day in Melbourne was averted by the dedicated efforts of Australia’s police and intelligence services. Yesterday seven people who allegedly plotted the attacks were arrested, and four have been charged. All but one of them were born in Australia, and are of Egyptian and Lebanese descent. They are said to have been inspired by the Islamic State in their plotting.

Below are excerpts from a press conference given by police and political leaders about the terror raids. Many thanks to Vlad Tepes for editing and uploading this video:

Some of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s remarks were included in the above video. Mr. Turnbull spoke to Australians on television about the thwarted jihad attacks — without ever mentioning JIM, of course. He did manage to refer to “Islamism”, “Daesh”, and “ISIL”, however, identifying them repeatedly as “criminals”.

Afterwards Pauline Hanson, the leader of the One Nation political party in Australia, had a few choice words to say to the prime minister and other clueless political leaders who fail to address, or even grasp, the threat posed by Islam to Australia:

News articles about the arrests:

Gates of Vienna News Feed 12/22/2016

Police in Melbourne have disrupted a terrorist attack planned for Christmas Day by arresting seven people. The suspected terrorists are thought to have been inspired by the Islamic State in planning their actions. However, Australian authorities have reassured the public that despite appearances, the incident had nothing to do with Islam.

OK, so I made that last part up. But still…

In other news, a major explosion in a Moscow metro station injured at least seven people. Russian authorities announced that the blast was caused by a leaking gas canister, and not by terrorism.

Analysis of Radical Multiculturalism

In his latest essay, Nick McAvelly deconstructs the logical fallacies derived from the false premise of Multiculturalism.

Analysis of Radical Multiculturalism

by Nick McAvelly

‘But since my intention is to write something useful for anyone who understands it, it seemed more suitable for me to search after the effectual truth of the matter rather than its imagined one. Many writers have imagined republics and principalities that have never been seen nor known to exist in reality. For there is such a distance between how one lives and how one ought to live, that anyone who abandons what is done for what ought to be done achieves his downfall rather than his preservation.’ — Niccolo Machiavelli [1]

The pre-Machiavellian assumptions traditionally used to frame any enquiry into political philosophy were described many times by Isaiah Berlin. Those assumptions were ‘in the first place that, as in the sciences, all genuine questions must have one true answer and one only, all the rest being necessarily errors; in the second place, that there must be a dependable path towards the discovery of these truths; in the third place, that the true answers, when found, must necessarily be compatible with one another and form a single whole …’ [2]

If those propositions are correct, then it is theoretically possible for all peoples from all cultures, with all kinds of religious beliefs, to co-exist in a happy and harmonious utopia. If such a fabulous vision were to exist only within the imagination of a small group of shallow thinkers, then that would harm no one. Unfortunately, there are a lot of radical people who believe in that utopian vision, and therein lies the danger, for they will do absolutely anything to bring that dream-world about.

As Berlin reminded us: ‘One belief, more than any other, is responsible for the slaughter of individuals on the altars of the great historical ideals — justice or progress or the happiness of future generations, or the sacred mission or emancipation of a nation or race or class, or even liberty itself, which demands the sacrifice of individuals for the freedom of society. This is the belief that somewhere, in the past or in the future, in divine revelation or in the mind of an individual thinker, in the pronouncements of history or science, or in the simple heart of an uncorrupted good man, there is a final solution. This ancient faith rests on the conviction that all the positive values in which men have believed must, in the end, be compatible, and perhaps even entail one another…’ [3]

Multiculturalism claims that all cultural and religious values are compatible with one another; therefore it is possible for all human beings to live in peace and harmony. Radical multiculturalists believe that by creating such a fabulous utopia, they will be implementing the final solution to the age-old question of how human beings are to live together here on earth.

However, if the foundational premise of multiculturalism is false, then not only has the utopia that radical multiculturalists believe in ‘never been seen nor known to exist in reality’, it cannot exist, because it is a logical impossibility. And the assertion that all cultural and religious values are compatible is indeed false. Consider the case of Khan vs. The United Kingdom, in which a 21-year-old Muslim living in Britain persuaded a 14-year-old girl to marry him in ‘an Islamic wedding ceremony’. The records of the case state that: ‘Under Islamic law, a Muslim girl may marry without her parents’ consent on attaining the age of 12 years.’ In pre-PC Great Britain, Khan was arrested and charged with abduction and having sexual intercourse with an underage girl, under the Sexual Offences Act 1956. Khan was found guilty on both counts in a British court, but appealed to a European court, where he argued that he had the right to have sex with an underage girl, because his religion (Islam) approved of the practice of underage marriage. Khan’s appeal failed. The convictions under the 1956 Act stood.[4]

You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!

A German entrepreneur has figured out how to solve the rape crisis and make money at the same time.

German women may now purchase rape-deterrent lingerie that keeps out intrusive culture-enrichers and sets off a loud alarm when any hot-blooded “southerner” tries to get past milady’s sartorial defenses.

The device even comes with a padlock. But this is the 21st century, and German women have been liberated, so the Modern Multicultural Fräulein controls the key to her own chastity belt. No husband required!

New Year’s Eve is coming up shortly. I wonder how well this handy garment is selling in Cologne…

The Gutmenschen Are Ready to Buy the World a Coke, Yet Again

The following article is simultaneously ludicrous and disturbing. How did these people become so deeply loopy? Is there any cure?

JLH translated this piece about a Turkish-organized memorial sing-along in Berlin. He includes this note:

I would like to dedicate this article to one of our commenters, RonaldB, who said:

“The problem is, the behavior of politicians and leaders is simply so bizarre as to preclude and overtake any possible exaggeration. In other words, it is impossible to even imagine a more bizarre set of actions. So, humorists are left high and dry as mere reporters, rather than funny men.”

The translated article from (appropriately) Die Welt:

Refugees and Berliners Sing “We Are the World”

The choir of the memorial church Everybody Can Sing and the Berlin Welcoming Choir memorialized the victims of the attack. Together they sang “Shine a Light,” “We are the World” and “Stille Nacht.”

The cooperative memorial at the memorial church after the attack that claimed two victims provided a sign of human sympathy. 200 people participated in the small concert.

Refugees and Berliners gave the concert together on Wednesday near Breitscheidplatz.

The choir of the memorial church Everybody Can Sing and the Berlin Welcoming Choir, where refugees sing together with Berliners, wished to remember the victims in this manner and provide a sign of human sympathy. The two choirs and other volunteers sang together “Shine a Light,” “We are the World” and Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht.”

The concert was organized by the network Avaz[1], which has begun similar solidarity actions after other attacks. Altogether, more than 200 people took part in the concert, according to the organizer.

On Monday evening, twelve people died in a truck attack on a Berlin Christmas Market. The extremist militia Islamic State claimed responsibility for the act. According to Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière (CDU), a suspect is being hunted nationwide.

The Berlin police say they have more than 500 tips. A suspect originally arrested was released after no evidence against him was found.

You can’t make this [expletive] up.

People who like to make meme pics (Nash Montana, take note!) may find larger versions of the photo at the original article quite useful.

However, as JLH observed, this stuff is hard to satirize — how can you make up something more ludicrous than the reality?

What’s the Real Story Behind Anis Amri and the Berlin Truck Jihad?

For the past twenty-four hours, police in Germany and the rest of Europe have been searching for Anis Amri, a Tunisian national who is suspected of driving a truck through the Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz in Berlin on Monday, killing twelve people. The Pakistani originally arrested for the attack was said to be the “wrong man”, and was later released. A day or so after the attack, police discovered Mr. Amri’s ID under the seat of the truck and initiated a search for him as the primary suspect.

There’s something very smelly about the belated discovery of Anis Amri as the likely culprit. It turns out he has a significant criminal record and has been arrested on multiple occasions. His application for asylum was denied, and when he was picked up by the police back in July, he was placed in a prison cell to await deportation. However, he was released the following day for unknown reasons.

The very convenient belated discovery of his ID in the truck… A criminal record… On a watch list… Released from prison on the orders of the Ministry of the Interior…

Curiouser and curiouser.

Was he a government informant who later decided to mend his ways and wage jihad? Or does the state want to get rid of him for other reasons? An eventual shootout with the police may be the authorities’ preferred outcome in either case.

Or the whole bizarre situation could be exactly what it seems — an immigrant mujahid killed a truck driver, took his truck, and fought jihad in the way of Allah at a Berlin Christmas festival.

Below are excerpts concerning the strange case of Anis Amri from an article in today’s Die Welt. Many thanks to Egri Nök for the translation:

Known as a “risk” — and still not deported

[…]

In April of this year, [Anis Amri] claimed asylum in Germany. Already in early 2016 he had been investigated for drug offenses. During the summer he was noted [observed but not charged] for dangerous assault. Amri allegedly lingered on the periphery of the Salafist preacher Abu Walaa, who was arrested in the autumn.

He attracted the attention of the police, as he was allegedly recruiting fighters for the Islamic State – and looking for weapons. In so doing, he fell in with an police informant.

Amri temporarily lived with an alleged jihadi in Dortmund. His electronic communications were monitored, according to sources among the investigators.

In Berlin, finally, authorities classified Amri as a “risk” (Gefährder, literally “endangerer”) — a militant Islamist capable of acts of violence.

He was observed in Berlin from March until September.

The investigations concerned information indicating that the Tunisian planned a burglary to get money for the purchase of automatic weapons. “Possibly for later carrying out an attack with accomplices which he yet had to acquire,” the State Prosecutor stated. But the suspicion could not be corroborated.

The more details are known about his case and his stay in Germany, the more absurd it seems that a person with this history could even stay here for that long. Amri was held in a German deportation jail back in the summer 2016, when he was released after just one day, at the request of the Aliens Registration Authority in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Kleve.

As Matthias Grewe, chief clerk of the district court in Ravensburg, confirmed on Wednesday to the Schwäbische Zeitung, Amri was captured at an identity check in July this year in Friedrichshafen. Since a data check revealed that a deportation order had been recorded by the police, the officers arrested him.

The Narrative

Below is the latest essay from our Israeli correspondent MC.

The Narrative
by MC

In 1922 the British were mandated to construct a homeland for Jews in the Middle East in what is now Israel and Jordan. This was enshrined in international law and passed into the accepted policy of the United Nations, to which most countries have signed up. This is true, and it is provable history, but it is as if it never happened. The narrative is about the Now, and history and truth are irrelevant when and where they deviate from the narrative.

The narrative describes a commonly held view, to which mainstream players must adhere if they want to remain mainstream. United we stand; truth be damned; so we inevitably fail to learn from our histories. Many millions of people were murdered by Communists, but that is simply brushed under the narrative carpet. It never happened (until it happens again, that is).

The narrative dominates our lives in so many ways. To go with the narrative may mean acceptance; to go against it is to be despised and rejected. It is almost religiously pre-ordained. But the age-old problem has always been: Just who defines the narrative? Who laid the yellow brick road? And who is behind the curtain? For he who defines the narrative rules the West, if not the world.

The narrative controls almost all aspects of our lives. For example, there is absolutely no evidence for the idea of ‘herd immunity’ as related to vaccines; herd immunity is the idea that a vaccine only works if everybody gets it. So we find that we are increasingly coerced into having our bodies violated by vaccines that are supposed to protect us from things from which we don’t need protection. But the narrative says one thing on this subject, and one thing only: get your shots, or get out. A handful of people a year die from complications arising from measles, but having caught measles as a child one is subsequently immune (and, it would appear, the immune system is enhanced as a result). But why is the immunity offered by an expensive vaccination so compromised when one comes into contact with somebody who is unvaccinated? Do I detect snake oil here?

But the narrative rules, so the questions not only go unanswered, but one is punished just for asking them.

In early post-Darwin USA, a liberal narrative was evolving, a narrative of social Darwinism and eugenics where the racist and misogynist elements of Darwinism were taken forwards and became the accepted narrative of the Left. This was closely watched by a young Adolf Hitler in Germany, who then adopted it for his embryo Nazi party and sold it to enough of the good folk of Germany for it to become the given narrative, and woe betide the deviants.

The current narrative is that National Socialism was ‘far right’ and that liberal conservatives who reject this narrative are also ‘far-right’. A rational person can clearly see the disconnect here, but the huge crevasses are papered over by the cognitive dissonance of narrative-compliance.

I grew so rich that I was sent
By a pocket borough into Parliament
I always voted at my party’s call
And I never thought of thinking for myself at all
No, he never thought of thinking for himself at all
I thought so little, they rewarded me
By making me the Ruler of the Queen’s Navy
He thought so little, they rewarded he
By making him the Ruler of the Queen’s Navy

— From ‘HMS Pinafore’ By Gilbert and Sullivan (1878).

The current narrative is that Islam is the religion of peace, whilst it is most obviously is not, but the narrative is always right.

But Jesus said:

Teach Your Editors Well

The German Interior Ministry, in partnership with official Islamic organizations, is planning a tutorial for media editors that will instruct them how to report properly on Islam.

Many thanks to Ava Lon for translating this article from the Christian (Protestant) news weekly Idea.de:

Islam workshop in the Ministry of the Interior: Are chief editors being influenced?

18 December 2016

[Photo caption: At the beginning of 2017, Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière, together with Islamic associations, invited to a workshop for journalists.]

Frankfurt am Main — The journalist Volker Siefert (Frankfurt am Main) offered a sharp criticism of a planned event for chief editors organized by the Federal Ministry of the Interior together with Islamic associations. As he writes in an op-ed under the heading “Heile Islam World Workshop in the Ministry of the Interior” in the magazine of the German journalists’ association, Journalist (Remagen), the member associations of the German Islam Conference demanded that Thomas de Maizière (CDU) offer a course “in which chief editors of all relevant media in Germany should learn how to correctly report on Islam.” He said it would take place on the ministry’s premises in early 2017, and had been developed by the Ministry of the Interior and Islamic associations: “This is what the associations have created what lobbyists otherwise dream of: namely, that the state intervenes in the process of opinion formation, about something that is directly discussed with the media’s responsible leaders.”

Siefert: A minister cannot tutor journalists

The action is downplayed by the Ministry of the Interior as “perfectly normal”. Siefert: “If this were normal, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology would have organized a workshop on “workplace-friendly reporting in the Diesel affair together with the car industry.” The state has to keep out of lobbying: “A minister isn’t allowed to act as co-organizer (either for a group or a person) together with a group of interests to provide tutorials for journalists.” Siefert works as a freelance journalist for, among other things, Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) and is primarily concerned with extremism motivated by Islam. In 2006, then-Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) wanted to create the “institutional framework for dialogue between people of Muslim faith and representatives of all levels of our community” with the German Islam Conference. Ten umbrella organizations, including the Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (DITIB), the Central Council of Muslims in Germany and the Alevit Community Deutschland (all in Cologne), are participating in the project.

The Moral Depravity of the Obama Administration

2016 is drawing to a close, and the Era of Obama is almost over. Emmet Scott takes a look back at the eight years of the Obama presidency and the cultural sewer it brought to the forefront of American political life.

The Moral Depravity of the Obama Administration

by Emmet Scott

It is axiomatic that politics is the art of the possible, and that governments are guided by practical considerations rather than strictly moral ones. Nonetheless, until fairly recent times the citizens of Western nations could be confident that their governments at least subscribed in public to culturally Christian concepts of right and wrong when it came to framing and interpreting legislation, and that, by and large, the interests of the citizenry were considered of some importance to legislators and administrators.

That Western governments no longer even pretend to subscribe to Christian morality, and that they no longer have the interests of their own citizens at heart, is painfully obvious to all but the most blind or obtuse. A new “religion”, namely radical secularism, is the belief system which now informs the thinking and actions of most Western politicians. That this radical secularism is every bit as hostile to traditional Christianity as was the Marxist secularism of Communist regimes is not to be doubted. We have already witnessed the beginnings of a low-key and so far bloodless persecution of Christians who insist on holding to their traditional beliefs whenever these beliefs clash with the new secularist orthodoxy. A society that can fine a Christian family bakery $135,000 for refusing to bake a lesbian “wedding” cake, and which can throw a public registrar into jail for refusing to officiate at a gay “wedding”, is a society which has already travelled far down the road of Soviet totalitarianism.

The overturning of Christian ideas relating to sexual morality can only accomplish the complete destruction of the family and the normalization of the most depraved sexual activity imaginable. That the political and economic elites have already travelled far down that road is fairly obvious, although it would appear from the emerging evidence of the hacked Podesta emails that they have travelled much further even than most people hitherto realized. More on this presently.

If the radical secularism of the Western ruling elites is militant and proselytizing at home, it is equally so abroad. In pursuing the selfsame agenda overseas, the Obama administration has stirred up wars and revolutions throughout the globe, transforming America into a real menace to the peace and stability of the world. Nowhere is this better illustrated than in Syria.

The decision of the Obama and Cameron administrations in the US and UK to assist the anti-government insurrection in Syria in 2012, even though they knew that the “opposition” was comprised entirely of Islamist extremists, illustrates in the most graphic manner possible the utter moral bankruptcy of the Western political class. From 2012 onwards delegation after delegation of Christian prelates and lay-people arrived in Europe begging the West to cease helping the rebels. Even by that time we were already used to seeing images of ancient Christian communities massacred by the jihadists. Yet all such pleas fell on deaf ears, as Cameron and Obama ramped up hostility against the Syrian government. In this they were supported and even encouraged by the equally immoral Western media.
