Forget the Windmills — We Like Nukes

The French are well-known for bucking the zeitgeist and opting for nuclear power to provide the bulk of their electricity requirements. Now they are going further: they’re dismantling windmills in order to preserve the traditional French cultural landscape.

Energy Transition the Other Way Around

France is dismantling wind turbines again

While Germany is wasting billions on the transformation to renewable energies, France is doing very well with its nuclear power. Now Paris is resisting EU plans and is even dismantling wind turbines.

Even on a day as windy as Friday, when Germany achieved record-breaking wind energy production levels, Germany emits significantly more CO2 per kilowatt hour than France.

France is taking a completely different approach from Germany’s: our western neighbor is even dismantling wind turbines in order to protect the landscape from damage. As a French energy expert reported to the French magazine Boulevard Voltaire, more and more wind turbines are being dismantled in order to protect France’s landscape culture.

The featured expert, Fabian Bougle, reported to the magazine that there were now numerous resolutions from several French state councils to give priority to respecting French cultural heritage. A few days ago, the appeals court in the French city of Nîmes ordered the dismantling of seven wind turbines that had been installed for seven years in the city of Lunas in the Hérault department because they had caused too much environmental damage.

It is not the first of its kind. A state council had previously decided to cancel the construction of wind farms because it would destroy the landscape that Marcel Proust describes in his work. Another French prefecture also canceled a wind turbine project because it would damage the landscapes that inspired Camille Pissarro’s paintings.

Expansion targets by 2030 — France rejects it

And politically France does not adhere to the rigid regulations of the EU. There is currently a real dispute between France and the European Commission because France does not want to commit to the expansion goals in renewable energy issues. It was only on Monday that the European Commission in Brussels published its recommendations on the member states’ energy-climate plans (PNEC — predicted no-effect concentration) for 2030.

The EU’s basic idea behind these recommendations is that countries must present their plans in detail and demonstrate the means by which member states want to achieve the European goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. However, according to the European Commission, with the plans presented so far there would only be a reduction of 51% at the European level, not the desired 55%. “The 21 draft plans received so far in their current form do not enable us to achieve our goals,” the commission wrote critically in its statement on Monday.

The Windmills of Your Mind

Intuition tells us — at least those of us who are thoughtful observers — that the “net-zero” craze is a hoax that will not work, and will bankrupt any nation that seriously attempts to implement it.

There is now an academic study that backs up that intuition. It quantifies the catastrophic economic failure that would result if Greta Thunberg were to get her wish, and the developed world attempted an implementation of net-zero.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Report24. The translator’s comments are in square brackets:

The Paris climate targets do not pass the cost-benefit test

A new comprehensive analysis examines whether implementing the Paris Agreement’s emissions policy goals will produce more good than harm. The result is sobering and should also alarm climate fanatics. We cannot destroy our economy just because we hope that it will have an improbable temperature effect.

Regardless of whether or not the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions actually has an effect on global temperature development, the implementation of laws, regulations and measures in this regard is guaranteed to have an effect on the world’s economic development. The — highly questionable — measures decided by politicians will also lead to massive economic upheaval in the coming decades. This is also illustrated by a new comprehensive analysis on this topic.

The analysis shows that even in the best-case scenarios, the trillions of dollars in costs (4.8% of GDP) associated with transitioning from fossil fuels to net-zero emissions by 2050 still outweigh the net benefits (3 .0% of GDP) in 2100. “The central estimate of the costs of climate policy, unrealistically assuming implementation at minimal cost, is in the range of 3.8-5.6% of GDP in 2100. The central estimate of the benefits of climate policy, unrealistically assuming high emissions without policy and constant vulnerability, is between 2.8-3.2% of GDP,”, according to the researchers.

These also explain that in 2050 — when “net zero” should be achieved according to politicians’ plans — “the best estimates of the benefits of the 1.5° C target would be around 0.5% of GDP”, “while the costs would be almost 5%”. So we are talking about a negative contribution ten times greater than any possible benefit. In various medium-sized model calculations you also get a negative cost-benefit ratio with a factor of two to four.

However, one should not forget that this analysis assumes a correlation between the CO2 content of the air and the temperature development. An assumption that has already been refuted by several research teams. For example, Report24 already has reported here, here, and here. This also means: All the measures taken by politicians to reduce CO2 emissions will have no significant impact on global temperatures, but will have a massive impact on economic developments. So we should prepare for a worst-case scenario for the economy…

Which Will It Be, Boiling or Freezing?

Climate change is going to get us. We all know that’s true, because we haven’t yet eaten enough bugs or paid enough taxes.

The big question is: What form will climate change take? Will it mean higher sea levels and palm trees growing in the Faroes? Or glaciers covering Biarritz and ice skating on Lake Okeechobee?

A recent study indicates it will be the latter: a new ice age.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Apollo News:

New climate study now warns of ice age instead of heat in Europe

Just in time for the world climate summit, another climate report was published that warns of a climate catastrophe for Europe. This time, however, not from heat, but from an ice age.

Icy cold instead of heat? A new climate report, just in time for the International Climate Summit in Dubai, warns of the beginning of a Europe-wide ice age. The Tipping Point report, prepared by an international team of 200 researchers and funded by the Bezos Earth Fund, is the latest in a series of warnings about the “most extreme impacts of climate change.”

Tim Lenton, professor of climate change at the University of Exeter in the UK and author of the study, warns that the Earth is about to pass dangerous “tipping points” that could lead not to global warming, as climate ideologists always describe, but to an ice age in Europe.

Ice age instead of heat? — Disagreement about panic

A new climate report warns that the Earth could soon pass dangerous “tipping points”. But this time, unlike previous reports, the content of the warning is not just a warning about a warming earth; no, Europe should be much more worried about a coming ice age. So is it time to panic about excessive heat and cold?

According to the study’s author, Tim Lenton, professor of climate change at the University of Exeter, probably yes. In his study, he speaks of a possible change in the subpolar vortex in the North Atlantic, which could have severe consequences for Europe. The last time we had something like this, “it led to a small ice age in Europe,” explains the climate researcher. According to Lenton, a vortex change could bring colder, snowy winters and hot summers, shorten the growing season of crops and endanger Europe’s water supply. Our society is not prepared for such a development, says Lenton.

Five tipping points to the end of the world

In the study, Lenton speaks of five so-called tipping points that the Earth is facing and that could endanger humanity in the future. In the cryosphere (everything that has to do with ice and snow), the study says, there is evidence of large-scale tipping points in the ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica, as well as local tipping points in glaciers and permafrost.

In the biosphere, there are tipping points in a variety of ecosystems, including forest dieback in the Amazon, the destruction of savannahs and drylands, the eutrophication of lakes, the death of coral reefs and mangroves, and the collapse of some fisheries, it said.

Fire and Ice

The climate alarmists have been warning us about “global boiling”, but Central Europe is currently experiencing a cold snap with record amounts of snow. Nevertheless, it’s still “climate change” — whenever the weather shifts into a new pattern, it’s evidence of “climate change”, all because of that pernicious CO2. In order to fix it we just need to eat the bugs and pay higher taxes.

Green says at -5° and half a meter of snow: “The earth is burning!”

Record cold temperatures, masses of fresh snow — just right winter: That doesn’t stop Katharina Schulze (38), Bavaria’s Green Party leader, from currently warning about global warming. She says on Instagram: “Even if it doesn’t look like it: the earth is burning.”

“Even if it doesn’t look like it: We are ruled by madmen,” comments a user on X (Twitter) on the recent video clip of the Bavarian Green Party leader. And another social media user says: “Almost all of Germany is covered by a centimeter-thick blanket of snow, and the green homunculus says: ‘Even if it doesn’t look like it, the earth is burning.’ The only thing burning brightly at the moment is the fuse in the green skull.”

And in many other comments, the irritating video appearance of Katharina Schulze (38) is mostly judged negatively — the politician, standing at the window of her winter garden, said that “the earth is burning”, even “if it didn’t look like that now”, because the (burning?) nature outside lies under a massive blanket of snow.

Because “the earth is currently burning” (Schulze quote), it is so important to jet to the World Climate Conference in Dubai, says the Green politician. Another user has Katharina Schulze add: “Basically, we are having a hot trans summer right now, which just feels like winter. Who are we to judge?”

Austria’s Greens are already a bit smarter: they currently don’t write anything about climate change or global warming on their social media channels.

The Winter of Our Discontent

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Uncut News. The translator’s comments are in square brackets:

Failure of EU policy: number of EU citizens without sufficient heating doubles

In 2022, around 40 million EU citizens suffered from a lack of heating in their homes, and this number is constantly increasing. Although EU officials made a clear case for protecting vulnerable people and those in fuel poverty, the number of people on low incomes who could not afford heating doubled. The European Union’s solution is to advise these people on how to reduce their energy consumption.

The rise in energy prices due to the war in Ukraine, as claimed by the EU, or actually due to the self-imposed sanctions on gas imports from the Russian Federation and the abandonment of coal-fired power plants, has plunged almost the entire European Union into energy poverty. The latest figures show that around 40 million Europeans from all member states were unable to heat their homes adequately in 2022. Compared to 2021, the number of low-income people who suffered from cold has doubled, but even people with above-average incomes were affected.

“These figures demonstrate the seriousness of the situation and call on policymakers to take action and address the root causes of energy poverty as part of a just transition that ensures no one is left behind. Energy poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon. In many cases, this situation is mainly determined by three fundamental causes, namely high energy costs relative to the household budget, low income levels and low energy efficiency of buildings and appliances,” says the European Commission Recommendation on Energy Poverty, published recently in the Official Journal of the European Union has been published. [The root cause is called GLOBALISM and its affiliated megalomaniac alphabet genocidists called UN, WHO, EU, WEF and, and, and…]

Low energy consumption also needs to be reduced

According to the European Commission, high energy prices have impacted the bloc’s energy markets since mid-2021, leaving more people struggling to pay their energy bills. These difficulties were not only limited to low-income people and those who constitute vulnerable populations and had to devote a disproportionate share of their income to energy expenditure, but also affected many people with average incomes.

“The Union has acted uniformly at the European level and within the framework of international commitments to ease the situation of European citizens. However, there is still a need for additional and targeted measures at national level. People who have regular and direct contact with people in fuel poverty, such as health, education or social workers and energy advisors, should have the necessary skills to identify fuel poverty and provide advice and information to households affected by fuel poverty. This information may include advice on fundamentally reducing energy consumption, explaining energy bills, advice on housing law and tenants’ rights against evictions, as well as places where additional advice or support can be obtained,” the European Commission said. [And an unlimited influx of migrants from hostile and warm climates, with the resulting excessive taxation of the working European, is going to help the situation? You’re [vulgar intensifier] ivory-towered LIARS that need the Romanov treatment BADLY.]

The Bloom is Off the “Climate Change” Rose

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Apollo News. The translator’s comments are in square brackets. Note: ARD is the German state broadcaster:

ARD survey: Only 1% of voters consider climate protection to be the most important issue

Climate protection is slipping: Hardly any Germans rate the issue as the most politically important, if you believe the new figures from the ARD Germany Trend. The migration issue dominates.

The issue of climate protection has become largely irrelevant for Germans. If you believe the new figures from the ARD Germany Trend, only one percent of those surveyed consider environmental and climate issues to be the most important political issue. Environmental and climate protection is “clearly taking a back seat,” notes the Tagesschau. [I guess they started to notice that not so many people have died from warmer weather, but many have died from the “warm welcome” some virtue signalling busybodies gave, and are still giving, to these “refugees”.]

For those surveyed, the migration problem is the overarching issue: The vast majority of respondents consider immigration pressure on Germany to be the most important current political issue: 44% are of this opinion. The area “armed conflicts/peace/foreign policy” follows in second place with 18%.

At the beginning of the year it was 44%

At the beginning of the year, 44% of Germans saw climate change as the most important problem. But the “Germany trend” has been turning for months. For three quarters of Germans (75%), the climate movement demonstrations have no influence at all on their personal attitude to climate and environmental issues.

The “Germany trend” also sends clear signals in party politics: the traffic light* parties remain under pressure after the state elections in Bavaria and Hesse and have slipped to their weakest result in the ARD survey since the federal election. Together, the SPD, Greens and FDP only have the approval of a third of voters. The AfD, on the other hand, achieved its highest figure to date in the “Germany trend” at 23% and gained one percentage point. [Still not enough to turn the sinking ship towards land, then beach it, careen it and smoke out the rats.]

Invasion of the Country Snatchers

Our English correspondent Seneca III sends this report on the political and cultural Ragnarøk that is now underway in the failed state formerly known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Invasion of the Country Snatchers

by Seneca III

Throughout the Western Ecumene including the UK socio-cultural collapse and ethnic treason in high places continue apace. Mind you, this debacle is not confined to this small archipelago; wherever one looks from the USA to Canada, from non-EU Europe (Norway, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.) and to the EU itself and then on south to the Antipodes, the picture is the same.

Simply put, we are in the midst of a mass invasion by primitive barbarian hordes, an invasion enabled and orchestrated by ruthless global power seekers who are pulling the strings in the background whilst at the same time paedophiles, perverts and deviants of every conceivable persuasion simultaneously infiltrate and poison virtually every public and private body with their toxic sexual indulgencies. The once Hallowed Halls of Academia have become so infested with this insanity that they now do little more than churn out young people with minds so crippled that they cannot differentiate between make-believe and reality.

Nevertheless, it is worth bearing in mind that Europeans became civilized only after several centuries of methodically executing criminals and invaders and imposing other violent forms of civilisation. In Africa, genetic patterns that had been significantly reduced in the other primary human sub-species were never eliminated and are still prevalent there and throughout the African diaspora.

[Disambiguation: The short précis in the paragraph immediately above is written from my memory of an article I read quite some time ago but did not archive. Furthermore, I do not recall ever reading any anthropological or genetic arguments, either then or now, challenging or substantiating the article’s central hypothesis so I must leave that line of research to any interested readers, other than to say that it is not unreasonable to conclude that evolution by artificial selection doesn’t produce new species, but it most certainly does produce more socially coherent and smarter human beings. —SIII]

The latest result of this African-heritage genetic pattern was horrifically demonstrated a few days ago in the London Borough of Croydon, a.k.a. the stabbing capital of London, where a 15-year-old black schoolgirl trying to defend her friend on the way to school was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old black ‘youth’ because her friend had rejected his advances; he subsequently used a foot-long, serrated zombie knife to stab the girl in the neck and chest. This, however, is really no surprise when looks at the demographics of Croydon.

According to the latest 2021 census, Croydon is predominantly white at 48.4%** with non-white minorities representing the remaining 51.6% of the population. Black people were the largest minority group in Croydon accounting for 22.6% of the population. In England more broadly the portion of the population that is white is 81%, 10% are Asian and 4% are Black. Metropolitan Police statistics also show Croydon had more stabbings than any other London borough in the year to last month — recording 211 knife crimes. (** ‘Predominantly white’ is an obfuscation used to mislead the reader from the reality that Croydon is a minority white Borough in the heart of our capitol city). The barbarians are definitely through the gates and increasing by the day; this could well be described as a form of ethnic Quantitative Easing which is eliminating the civilised values of this nation.

So, we the people of the West have a choice: either impose the same cruel and merciless system of punishment on criminals and invaders today that the medieval Europeans did, or watch our civilisation collapse everywhere such archaic genetic patterns are permitted to prevail. We must let Anarch’s Legions march or we are finished. Hence, the only question now is just how brutal and comprehensive the process of recovery will be, and as for the biology-denying plague of transgenderism, it is a fabricated attention-seeking condition used to legitimise abnormal behaviour, and will simply cease to exist in the midst of that great turmoil that will soon impact us.

Further on the home front, we now live with violent criminality by day and night in the form of drug peddling, stabbings, muggings, violent burglaries and gangs of organised thugs plundering shops and businesses [1] & [2], in the main perpetrated by a protected criminal sub-class with little fear of meaningful punishment in a system that is terrified of being labelled as racist unless the offender is white. As a consequence, the everyday activities of millions of law-abiding citizens are curtailed, and they now go in fear of their lives and livelihoods even before they are hit with yet more punitive taxes simply for leaving their homes in vehicles that are not compliant with Sadiq Khan’s highway robbery project.

Add to this the undefined number of homegrown benefit junkies sucking at the public teat and further emptying what little is left in the nation’s coffers already drained dry by supporting the hundreds of thousands of criminal predators and parasites who have invaded these islands by land, sea and air.

Where I live is not to too badly infected at the moment; it remains somewhat of a backwater, an island of semi-calm within the eye of the storm that is tearing the rest of the country apart, although this small town has had its quota of ‘asylum seekers’ secretly dumped on it (quietly in the dead of night, of course, in case we long-established inhabitants should be so white racist as to object to this forced non-British occupation) and who have taken up all of the available social housing where they are sheltered, fed and watered and provided with free pocket money at the taxpayers’ expense whilst our own young people despair of finding affordable rental housing for themselves.

Londonistan/Africa-on-Thames, long under the draconian thumb of a Labour Muslim Mayor, plus Birmingham, Manchester and every other large urban conurbation in the UK are no longer British in any meaningful sense of the word. They have become the fiefdoms of the imported scum of the world, in many cases by the Demented Slaves of Allah, who have arrived both illegally or, as with the Pakistani and Bangladeshi paedophile rapists…

…mostly legally thanks to decades of high treason on the part of the self-serving drones who are still warming their posteriors on the green benches in the House of Commons and the red benches in that geriatric nursing home known as the House of Lords, all of whom are now themselves being quietly cleansed and replaced in both the Legislative and Executive arms of government. The photograph below, published by Khan’s apparatchiks in the London Assembly, make it quite clear what future lies in store for what remains of the native British still managing to survive in their capital city and elsewhere throughout this once green and pleasant land.

Sadiq Khan’s official website recently published a photograph of a young white family with the words: ‘Doesn’t represent real Londoners’: [3]

No Place to Lay My Head

High energy costs and excessive regulation mean that building new housing in Germany is no longer cost-effective for construction firms.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Junge Freiheit:

Climate protection is exacerbating housing shortages

Unprofitable: Vonovia stops building housing

Heat pumps, insulation madness and inflation make building unaffordable. Therefore, the largest German housing group is now stopping the completion of urgently needed living space.

Berlin

Nothing is needed as urgently as housing — also in connection with the record immigration of asylum seekers. But now Germany’s largest real estate group Vonovia is canceling the construction of tens of thousands of apartments.

The high interest rates and construction costs, driven by ever new climate protection measures, make housing construction unprofitable. “We have plans for a total of 60,000 apartments in the drawer,” said Vonovia CEO Rolf Buch to the Funke newspapers. “We get everything ready up to the building regulations. And hope that building will soon be worthwhile and profitable again. Then we want to start building again immediately.” According to the Ifo Institute, 12% of all construction companies are now in financial difficulties.

Vonovia boss: We need millions of new apartments

Buch is aware of the explosive nature of the company’s decision. From his point of view, there is currently a lack of more than a million apartments in Germany. “My estimate is: We need 700,000 apartments a year, also because of increasing immigration.” So the problem is not one million apartments, but several million apartments that are missing in a very short period of time.

The construction industry recently criticized the federal government’s planned tightening of the EH-40 energy efficiency standard for new buildings. This requires even greater insulation and is seen as a further cost driver.

Construction costs would drive basic rents to €20 [per square meter]

A Vonovia spokeswoman also said that construction costs used to be €3,000 per square meter, but today they are €5,000. “Our average rent in the existing building is around €7.50, and many people with medium or low incomes live here. That’s why we pay attention to affordable rents of around €10 to €12, even for new buildings.”

The high construction and financing costs would therefore lead to a basic rent of €20 per square meter in the new building. “But many people can no longer afford that,” it said.

First the Climate, Now Artificial Intelligence

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from eXXpress. The translator’s comments are in square brackets:

As with the climate: Von der Leyen wants a World Council for Artificial Intelligence

In view of the dangers posed by artificial intelligence (AI), EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has proposed the establishment of a new global advisory body. A body similar to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) could deal with the social risks, but also with the possible benefits of the technology.

Together with its partners, Europe should develop a global regulatory framework. “The crucial question is how we use a rapidly developing technology,” said von der Leyen. It is significant that even the AI inventors and developers are demanding regulation from politicians. [What about scrapping it completely? But that would mean they’d have to give up control, and that is something those freaks will never do on their free will.]

The possible dangers of artificial intelligence have been intensively discussed around the world for months. The text machine ChatGPT, Google’s competing software Bard and programs that can generate images based on text descriptions are causing a lot of public attention. There are concerns, for example, that their skills could be used to produce and spread false information. [Could? Their whole control mechanism depends on it. It’s going to be a given that they will use it to push their narratives despite reality.]

Council shows options for actions

In March, a number of tech experts such as Tesla boss Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak proposed a minimum six-month moratorium on the development of powerful artificial intelligence. This should give the industry time to set security standards for the development of AI and avert possible damage from the riskiest AI technologies, it was said at the time.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which Ursula von der Leyen named as a model for a possible new AI committee, is considered enormously influential. For the UN institution in Geneva, experts compile the scientific knowledge on climate change every five to seven years. They also show options for action and their respective consequences. The IPCC reports are the most important basis for political decisions to mitigate climate change. [And the taxpayers are bled even more to pay for this panel’s lavish upkeep while their jobs and incomes are being destroyed at the same time by AI.]

The Greening of the Planet

Back in 2010, during a trip to the Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy — i.e. the Washington D.C. metropolitan area — I paid a visit to my old neighborhood in the town of Takoma Park, Maryland (not to be confused with an adjacent neighborhood of the same name just across the District line). I could remember the street grid well enough, and made my way to the apartment building I had lived in some thirty-five years previously, just to see what the place looked like. The area was recognizable enough — it was totally Hispanic by then, but it had been moving in that direction even when I lived there. Salvadoran restaurants. Mexican grocery stores. Cuban barber shops, where “razor cut” might have more than one meaning.

So the neighborhood was familiar, except for the growth of trees. What was it with the foliage hanging over every street, and dense greenery blocking the view around every corner? It’s not like it had been a newly-developed area when I lived there — it was an old established suburb by then, with forty- and fifty-year-old buildings and trees that had long since reached their maturity. So what was it with all that mass of greenery? It made navigation more confusing than it should have been.

It got me to thinking about the possibility that increased CO2 in the atmosphere had stimulated all that luxuriant new growth in the trees and shrubs of Takoma Park. The possibility made me look at the landscape in a different way in other places, including the remote countryside here in the boondocks of the Central Virginia Piedmont. Yes, it did seem like all the hedgerows and second-growth areas were choked with densely-packed shrubs and small trees. When I cast my mind back to the way things had looked in the same places thirty or forty years before, it seemed that the landscape back in those days had been more spare, more austere. The view was more wide open then driving along the back roads. But that was a very subjective observation, and could have been ascribed to the power of suggestion.

Or maybe not. Just a few years after my return to the barrios of Takoma Park, NASA published a report about the increase in green biomass across the globe between 1982 and 2015. Posted in 2016, it was entitled “CO2 is making Earth greener — for now”. The weaselly qualification “for now” had to be included to make sure the piece adhered to the Climate Crisis narrative. Sure, it’s nice that the Earth is experiencing more plant growth — but don’t get used to it! It won’t last, and before too long we will all fry, or drown, or freeze, or whatever the latest fashionable apocalyptic scenario is.

According to this report, my subjective impressions about the flora of the East Coast were based on very real changes:

A quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.

An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.

Green leaves use energy from sunlight through photosynthesis to chemically combine carbon dioxide drawn in from the air with water and nutrients tapped from the ground to produce sugars, which are the main source of food, fiber and fuel for life on Earth. Studies have shown that increased concentrations of carbon dioxide increase photosynthesis, spurring plant growth.

While rising carbon dioxide concentrations in the air can be beneficial for plants, it is also the chief culprit of climate change. The gas, which traps heat in Earth’s atmosphere, has been increasing since the industrial age due to the burning of oil, gas, coal and wood for energy and is continuing to reach concentrations not seen in at least 500,000 years. The impacts of climate change include global warming, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and sea ice as well as more severe weather events.

Bud Light Elections in The Netherlands

After the fall of the Dutch cabinet and Mark Rutte’s retirement last month, The Netherlands will go to the polls in November to vote in a snap election. Our Dutch correspondent H. Numan has the grisly political details about what most likely lies ahead.

Bud Light elections in The Netherlands

by H. Numan

It’s official: on the 22nd of November the Dutch go to vote for a new government. It’ll be unique elections. Very unique elections, with no less than four major parties getting the Bud Light experience! It’s too soon to forecast anything more, especially when such a major change is in sight. So I’ll stick with what is certain to happen.

The breaker pays for the damage

In Dutch politics it’s customary that the party that caused the premature resignation of a cabinet pays for it. In the past the VVD conservatives were very capable of putting the blame on anyone but themselves and got away with it. Not this time. It’s not impossible that they may survive a major mauling and form part of a new coalition. But they will certainly have to pay for it this time. The only question is: how much?

1. The conservatives go down

Why is the VVD going down on the brown creek without paddles? The everlasting Dear Leader had to retire. He’s relatively young, so you can expect him to crawl from his political grave. But for now, he’s out of the running. Mark Rutte consistently removed anyone who could possibly replace him. Every crown prince or princess bit the dust. In big political parties there are more than enough nobodies and wannabes; they picked the minister of Justice Dilan Yesilgöz-Zegerius as their new leader.

Try saying that three times fast! Let’s call her mamma Ataturk, as she holds dual Turkish and Dutch nationality. As with most muslims, she prefers to be called by a Dutch-sounding name. She is the only noteworthy currently available and willing. Mamma Ataturk is going to campaign with the age-old lie: vote VVD mamma Ataturk for fewer muslim migrants. Doesn’t sound sincere, does it? What worked for Rutte won’t work for Ataturk. Looks like she is a volunteer sacrificial lamb. Or goat.

2. The Christian Democrats are history

Next on the list are the Christian Democrats. They abused and kicked out their very own Lazarus. The last elections (not that long ago) they got rid of the only man that easily could revive their pending doom. Not because Pieter Omtzigt had a different opinion, far from it. If anyone is toeing the party line, it’s him. But simply because they hated him. They ousted him not once, but twice. First by Fancy Shoes Hugo. Click the link.
