No Place to Lay My Head

High energy costs and excessive regulation mean that building new housing in Germany is no longer cost-effective for construction firms.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Junge Freiheit:

Climate protection is exacerbating housing shortages

Unprofitable: Vonovia stops building housing

Heat pumps, insulation madness and inflation make building unaffordable. Therefore, the largest German housing group is now stopping the completion of urgently needed living space.

Berlin

Nothing is needed as urgently as housing — also in connection with the record immigration of asylum seekers. But now Germany’s largest real estate group Vonovia is canceling the construction of tens of thousands of apartments.

The high interest rates and construction costs, driven by ever new climate protection measures, make housing construction unprofitable. “We have plans for a total of 60,000 apartments in the drawer,” said Vonovia CEO Rolf Buch to the Funke newspapers. “We get everything ready up to the building regulations. And hope that building will soon be worthwhile and profitable again. Then we want to start building again immediately.” According to the Ifo Institute, 12% of all construction companies are now in financial difficulties.

Vonovia boss: We need millions of new apartments

Buch is aware of the explosive nature of the company’s decision. From his point of view, there is currently a lack of more than a million apartments in Germany. “My estimate is: We need 700,000 apartments a year, also because of increasing immigration.” So the problem is not one million apartments, but several million apartments that are missing in a very short period of time.

The construction industry recently criticized the federal government’s planned tightening of the EH-40 energy efficiency standard for new buildings. This requires even greater insulation and is seen as a further cost driver.

Construction costs would drive basic rents to €20 [per square meter]

A Vonovia spokeswoman also said that construction costs used to be €3,000 per square meter, but today they are €5,000. “Our average rent in the existing building is around €7.50, and many people with medium or low incomes live here. That’s why we pay attention to affordable rents of around €10 to €12, even for new buildings.”

The high construction and financing costs would therefore lead to a basic rent of €20 per square meter in the new building. “But many people can no longer afford that,” it said.

Afterword from the translator:

Can anyone of these so-called Greens explain to me how millions of “immigrants” that need millions of acres in concrete and housing are protecting the environment and the “climate”? I really would love to hear their explanation, and by that I do not mean some illogical ideological drivel, I want HARD and PROVABLE facts. But I seriously doubt that anyone of these morons will be able to “enlighten” me without resorting to some meaningless Marxist dialectic.

  1. The Green fascists likely plan to deal with the housing shortage by starving, freezing to death, driving to suicide, and vaxxing to death enough Germans who have lived there longer than others that the housing spaces are available for their orcs.

And, like all good communists, expropriating properties from those with rooms to spare who happen to be AfD supporters to give to feral orcs.

While the French had guillotines to deal with their parasites, and the Soviets had their gulags and firing squads, the Germans might have to return to duty all of those magnificent ovens and gas chambers disguised as showers which they wisely kept lovingly preserved, to deal with the job lots of traitors and Green parasites when they’ve had enough and finally decide to grow a pair.

    • You are right.
A so-called architect named Sobek made some comments:
No more one-family houses surrounded by green. He wants one house next to the other one. And forget insulation against loss of heat or sounds.
We should wear a pullover to stay warm and if we hear our neighbours we will come closer to each other.

In a nutshell: He wants the return of the GDR (communist) style Plattenbau.

You know the buildings of the movie DREDD. Thats what he wants. (OK, I extrapolated his opinion to the logical conclusion by adding the WEF target of the 15 minute city.
One building where you are born, live and die without leaving it ever.

And yes, moon, I agree with your solution.
But why end them quick? Let them “enjoy” the company of their so-loved orcs a few days.

  2. Can you explain why German house prices are falling? Are these the ones which are too expensive to make green?

  3. Back when liberal had the expectation that good faith dialogue would supersede the need for any arbitrary standards set by convention or religion they had at least two major players who addressed this issue.
Firstly, Bertrand Russell started with the premise that unless we developed a one world government then we would annihilate ourselves. Nevertheless he regarded open borders at this stage to be the end of civilization. He advocated transfer of technology to the undeveloped world to produce a drop in birth rate there to western levels. He clearly stated that an influx of high reproducing undeveloped people would crash the technology source of the resources that underpin current populations and their associated mores.
Next, Paul Ehrlich is still alive but as silent as somebody who does not want his books burnt in public squares and death threats from maniacs of all shades. He has the equation I = P x A x T, impact equals population times affluence times technology. Under these terms he states that the very worst thing for the environment is change of status of a migrating mass from low to high consumption locations.

    • Bringing up Paul Ehrlich or limits to population/carrying capacity always seem to be highly controversial on this site.

Like, on par with discussing joos controversial.

However, at some level a rational person should ask the question of just what did people expect would happen if the West undertook to feed starving millions in Africa, bring them modern sanitation and medical training and facilities to decrease deaths related to childbirth and poor sanitation, and take measures to reduce deaths from malaria and AIDS.

The population of Africa explodes like a field of weeds, and this combined with open borders, liberal welfare payments, and a hostile parasitic class looking to exterminate white European genetic and cultural heritage leads to what we have today. Why was this not anticipated by those with the authority and power to do something about it?

      • Bertrand Russell was establishment by birth and upbringing as well as by accomplishment. He met with Lenin and regularly with Rockerfeller and others with power and authority to determine the post-war world. Those who decide have done so in full knowledge of all the consequences, which they desire.

Limits to growth is an excellent framework with which to investigate the human state of being. All models are wrong but some are useful. All scientific institutions are serving Power through silence or active complicity. The junior members have been raised since kindergarten on last generation state of emergency so they will not question their role as useful idiots for the self-proclaimed billionaires against billionaires. They will reflexively turn on the old master that is Paul Ehrlich as instructed in Rules for Radicals.

White Europe had claim on the territory and achievements of their ancestors, therefore they have been turned against both of these. Their organisation and drive has been directed to suicide of the entity, if not also most members. Friedrich Nietzsche anticipated the consequence of the God-sized hole in the centre of Europe and welcomed the return of unconstrained masters of the universe. Unconstrained in greatly reducing the power and or number of useless eaters and simultaneously raising ruling IQ.

The masters of the universe could theoretically produce a quantum leap improvement in the human condition. Absent the enormous divergence of energy into the insatiable desires of the masses, the masters could be fully dedicated to discovering reality. The questions of meaning and of who gets what and why disappears on a relatively empty planet where each day brings the challenge of further investigation for its own sake. Worth a try?

Again in theory, social engineering is not necessary to explain our trajectory. Ted Kaczynski who definitely committed suicide got a lot wrong in his isolation but the idea that technology itself is the driving force is highly plausible. The woke religious zealots will ensure that the masters can easily implement dystopian technology. The only effective barrier to dystopia as I see it is real Christian churches full of Christians with self-preservation as a sacred duty. These are the people who can state God’s will and not budge, but only en mass as otherwise it is the current persecution of isolated individuals. I did not choose a world where without God all things are permissible, but here I am.
