Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/27/2020

Riots continued for a second night in Philadelphia, prompting Mayor Jim Kenney to call in the National Guard. The unrest broke out yesterday after police shot a man named Walter Wallace Jr. to death when he advanced on them with a knife and refused to drop it. A mob of more than a thousand people began looting small businesses, and more than thirty people were arrested.

In other news, an estimated 40,000 people gathered in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and burned French President Emmanuel Macron in effigy in a protest against the projection of Charlie Hebdo cartoons of Mohammed on the sides of public buildings in Paris.

To Mask or Not to Mask, Part 2

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from the German-language service of RT:

Study on the effectiveness of masks remains unpublished

A large-scale study in Denmark to investigate the effectiveness of wearing masks in terms of COVID-19 containment was rejected and not published by several prestigious medical journals. The study’s authors indicated that the results were “uncomfortable” for the status quo. The journals The Lancet, The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American Medical Association all rejected the study.

6,000 Danes participated in the study, which began in late April. Half of them were asked to wear a mask at all times in public places. The other half were instructed not to cover their faces. After a month, the participants were tested both for corona infection and for antibodies to the virus.

The researchers who led the study remained silent about their findings, but provided a variety of indications that it was the outcome of the study, and not the methodology, that led to the rejection of the study. Christian Torp-Pedersen, a professor and the chief physician in the research department at North Zealand Hospital, told the Danish daily Berlingske:

We can’t begin to discuss what was unsatisfactory for them [the medical journals]. To do this, we would need to explain what the study reveals. And we don’t want to discuss that until the study is published.

Another member of the study administration emailed New York Times reporter Alex Berenson that the results would be published “as soon as a journal is brave enough to publish the study.”

In Denmark it is currently mandatory to wear a mask as soon as you leave the table, in public transport and in bars and restaurants.

There are rampant discussions around the world about the mask requirement and whether wearing a mask might curb the spread of the virus. Japanese researchers recently published a study that found that masks offered some degree of protection from COVID-19 particles in the air, but even wearing high quality, professional face coverings couldn’t eliminate the risk of infection.

Interestingly, particularly at the beginning of the “Corona crisis”, many health experts spoke out against a far-reaching mandate that the general public wear a mask, and described such measures as ineffective. For example, Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House COVID-19 Task Force, insisted in an interview in March that there was no reason for apparently healthy people to “walk around in masks.”

Black Democrats Are the New Palestinians

Black Democrats Are the New Palestinians

by Nash Montana

As America has moved on to become tremendously prosperous, a large segment of the black community remains trapped in a time warp where they are trading prosperity, happiness, and freedom for the prison of endless protest.

Black Democrats are the new Palestinians.

They are so consumed with revenge, hate, and self-pity, it is impossible for them to function as a proper part of society. They have become dysfunctional and undisciplined, instead of steeling themselves to obey the laws that most other Americans follow effortlessly.

Instead they are now fighting to defund the police so they can break the law without consequence.

Democrats have started every riot in America over the past sixty years. Watts, Detroit, Washington DC, Los Angeles, even Charlottesville. Now they are rioting, looting burning and killing all over the country.

Isn’t it amazing that conservatives of all races never riot? We may demonstrate, but never riot. Why? Because we do not trust the government. We know the government cannot fix our problems.

We will demonstrate to remind the government of what will happen to it if it attempts to infringe, abridge, or violate our unalienable rights.

Observing the spectacle over the past two months: you can see how some can say that Liberals are full of hate. Their hatred is toxic and contagious.

As in the book Moby Dick, when the hateful Ahab infected the once peaceful crew of the Pequod with the deadly disease of revenge, anti-Christian Liberals have infected once peaceful Americans.

Even in death, the corpse of the hate-filled Captain Ahab summoned the crew of the Pequod to its death. Likewise, Democrats are using the corpses of long-dead Confederate Democrats and their victimized slaves to summon America to its demise.

Black Democrats have learned well from their former masters and present oppressors how to hate and justify all manner of evil because of perceived or imaginary injustice.

They are on a rampage seeking revenge against dead and imaginary foes. They are summoning all of America to follow them to Hell. We must resist at all costs.

Erdogan is Suing Geert Wilders

Turkish President Recep Tayyip “Papa Goat” Erdogan has filed a lawsuit in a Turkish court against Geert Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV) in the Netherlands. Mr. Erdogan is upset over “insults” by Mr. Wilders as expressed on social media. The Turkish president considers the issue to be under the jurisdiction of Turkish courts because the alleged insults were directed at the office of the presidency.

The incident reminds me of the initiative by Jordan back in 2009, when the Hashemite Kingdom issued a warrant for Mr. Wilders’ arrest and extradition to Jordan to be tried for insulting Islam with his movie Fitna.

Some things never change.

Below are excerpts from a Reuters article about the Turkish lawsuit:

Erdogan files criminal complaint against Dutch politician Wilders

ANKARA (Reuters) — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has filed a criminal complaint with Turkish authorities against Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders saying that he had insulted him on social media, state-owned Anadolu news agency said on Tuesday.

Wilders is one of Europe’s most prominent far-rightists and has been a key figure in shaping the immigration debate in the Netherlands over the past decade, although he has never been in government.

On Saturday Wilders posted a cartoon picture of Erdogan and captioned it “terrorist”. On Monday he posted an image of a sinking ship with a Turkish flag on it. “Bye bye @RTErdogan. Kick Turkey out of NATO,” he said under the image.

Erdogan’s lawyers filed a lawsuit with prosecutors in Ankara on Tuesday, saying Turkish courts had jurisdiction on the matter because the insults were directed at Turkey’s president, Anadolu reported, citing the document filed by the lawyers.

“Even though the crime was committed directly against the person in the presidential seat, the value that is being violated is the state’s political government structure,” the lawyers said, according to Anadolu.

They said the comments by Wilders could not be viewed as freedom expression and that Wilders had targeted Erdogan’s “honour, dignity, character and reputation”.

Culture-Enriching Robbery at Knifepoint

Earlier this month I reported on a Somali ghetto known as “Little Mogadishu” in the Swedish town of Borlänge. Many international students who lived in the neighborhood expressed their desire to escape from the crime-intensive Somali enrichment —they must have been WAYCISTS. What other explanation could there be?

The story below is a follow-up about Borlänge. Many thanks to FouseSquawk for translating this article from Fria Tider:

Three days after Löfven’s visit to Tjärna Ängar — Robbery at knifepoint of large sum of money

October 24, 2020

A 25-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint in the immigrant-dense area of Tjärna Ängar in Borlänge, also called “Little Mogadishu”. Under the threat of a knife, the man was forced to withdraw a large sum of money.

On Wednesday Prime Minister Stefan Löfven visited the Somali ghetto Tjärna Ängar in Borlänge, which is characterized by crime and great insecurity.

His visit came after international students who were placed in student apartments in the ghetto became so frightened that they wanted to move to the center of Borlänge.

Löfven stated that “many are proud to live here,” according to Aftonbladet.

But early Saturday morning another serious crime occurred in the area.

About 5am police were alerted that a 25-year-old man was subjected to a robbery outside a boutique in Tjärna Ängar.

“Two men, unknown to the victim, approached him, threatened him with something that was perceived to be a knife and forced him to withdraw a large sum of money from an ATM. The men then left the scene,” police write on their web site.

The incident is being classified as a robbery. There are no suspects.

Fight the Corona, But Welcome Refugees

Hellequin GB has translated two recent articles from Politikstube that concern the effects of mass immigration into Germany.

The first article:

Why do we have to stay at home while mass immigration continues unchecked?

The most recent example is the set of restrictive regulations for the citizens of Berchtesgadener Land [district in Bavaria]. Bavarian Prime Minister Söder ordered a regional lockdown there — with business closings, curfews and other strict measures to harass the population.

The basis for this is again incorrectly the number of people infected with Corona, and not relevant figures such as sick leave, rate of occupancy of intensive care beds, and deaths due to Corona.

So, while entire regions are isolated and cordoned off at the slightest cough, and the freedom of the population is massively restricted, on the other hand mass immigration continues cheerfully. The people who landed in Hannover by plane from [the Greek migrant camp] Moria — mind you, during the corona pandemic — will be distributed to Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein.

The hysterically-conceived danger from the Wuhan Coronavirus pales in comparison with the real danger brought into the country during the “Welcome Refugees” craze that began in 2015. The second article describes an example of the damage cultural enrichment has done to German females, especially very young girls:

Erdogan Calls Macron a Loony

An unexpected side effect of the October 16 beheading of Samuel Paty has been an open diplomatic rift between France and Turkey. French President Emmanuel Macron’s response to the crisis provoked a reaction from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, causing the latter to question the former’s sanity.

Many thanks to FouseSquawk for translating this article from Le Figaro. The translator reports that the original article includes a video of Mr. Erdogan speaking, with French subtitles:

The Élysée [residence of President Macron] denounces the “unacceptable” remarks of Erdogan against Macron

The Turkish president called on his French counterpart to “have mental health exams”, condemning his attitude toward Muslims. The Élysée has reacted and brought up the “absence of condolence and support messages” from Turkey after the assassination of Samuel Paty.

by Le Figaro with AFP
October 24, 2020

On Saturday 24 October the Élysée denounced the remarks, judged “unacceptable”, of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who called into question “the mental health” of his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, because of his attitude towards Muslims.

Earlier this Saturday during a televised speech, the Turkish president virulently criticized the decisions of his French counterpart towards the Muslim community. “All one can say of a chief of state who treats millions of members of different religious communities in this manner is: First go and have mental health exams,” he declared.

The speech was condemned by the Élysée at the end of the afternoon. “The remarks of President Erdogan are unacceptable. Excess and rudeness are not a method. We demand Erdogan change the course of his policy. It is dangerous to all. We do not enter into useless polemics, and we do not accept insults,” the Élysée commented, according to the AFP (Agence France Presse), in announcing the recall of the French ambassador to Ankara for consultations.

The Élysée also brought up “the absence of messages of condolence and support from the Turkish president after the assassination of Samuel Paty,” the teacher beheaded a week ago is an Islamic attack in the proximity of his school in a Parisian suburb. Also noted were the “very offensive statements (of Recep Tayyip Erdogan) in recent days, notably his call for a boycott of French products.”

The Turkish president did not stop there: He also predicted that Emmanuel Macron would lose the next presidential election in 2022, “because he has accomplished nothing for France. You spend your time attacking me. That will gain you nothing.”

Two weeks ago Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced as a provocation the statements of the French president on “Islamist separatism” and the necessity of “structuring Islam” in France. A bill on the fight against “The separatisms” in France, directed at radical Islam, should be presented at the beginning of December. It aims to reinforce secularism and consolidate republican principles in France, and includes several points likely to provoke tensions with Turkey, such as strengthened control of mosque financing or a ban on the training of imams abroad.

This dispute is added to a long list of disagreements between Emmanuel Macron and his Turkish counterpart, who regularly takes up the defense of Muslim minorities throughout the world. From the tensions in the Mediterranean to the conflict in Libya, to the clashes in [Nagorno-]Karabakh, a number of issues currently pit Paris and Ankara against each other.

Forgot a Zero, Perhaps?

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for translating this article from Politikstube:

Over 28,000 Islamists and 2,060 potential threats in Germany

The security authorities assume that there are more than 28,000 Islamists nationwide and estimate the number of potential threats to be 2,060.

The number of unreported cases is likely to be higher; after all, with open borders and without border controls, you don’t know exactly who is in Germany.

While the security authorities are busy registering and monitoring Islamists, and on top of that dealing with the “fight against the right”, those in charge of politics are devoting themselves to the currently greatest threat to the country and are intensively concerned with the Corona ordinances and compliance with them.

This also includes persecution of mask-grumpy people, refusal of distance and quarantine and the imposition/collection of fines.

You just have to set priorities for “security”.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution estimates the Islamist-terrorist potential in Germany at currently 2,060 people.

“The terrible act in Dresden shows that Islamist terrorism still poses a great danger in Germany,” said Constitutional Protection President Thomas Haldenwang in the newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Friday).

According to the report by Funke, the authorities assumes that there are more than 28,000 Islamists nationwide.

The security authorities continued to work on numerous dangerous issues with their combined forces and resolved the Islamist scene consistently, said Haldenwang.

The translator adds this comment:

Personally, I’m not in the least surprised, since the Merkelstani government makes its priorities extremely clear, even for the last sheeple — not that they will actually take note — that the government’s priority is the utter destruction of the German people.

O PRAECLARUM CUSTODEM OVIUM LUPUM. (How splendid, a protector of sheep is the wolf.)

Well done, German voters…

Knife Jihad in Dresden

Earlier this month a Syrian mujahid launched a terror attack in Dresden, using a knife against two tourists. He is a multiple recidivist, and did time several years ago when he was a “youth”.

MissPiggy has provided additional context: the two tourists were a gay couple, and were internal tourists from elsewhere in Germany, with international tourism virtually destroyed by COVID-19 restrictions.

Islamic knife attack in Dresden

by Gerhard Piper
October 22, 2020

Abdullah al-H. H. was considered a danger. He was released from prison at the end of September, and five days later committed the attack against tourists.

Abdullah al-H. H. is a Syrian citizen. In 2015 he came to Germany and lived in a home for asylum-seekers in Dresden-Pappriz (Wachwitzer-Höhenweg 1a). He possesses a short-term residence permit and is 20 years old.

Since the early summer of 2017 he began to be radicalized. Fatema A. recruited him for the Islamic State in July of 2017. The Syrian female was so badly wounded in an airstrike in 2012 that she has had to use crutches ever since. Her husband was apparently killed in a prison in 2015. In the year 2015 she came to Germany as a refugee. Her asylum request was granted. She created propaganda for the Islamic State. In July of 2016 she was promoting the then-ISIS on behalf of a compatriot at the Dresden University Clinic, as well as in July of 2017. In Internet chat she often posed as a man. According to the accusation she wanted to support an ISIS-connected sheikh in Morocco with €4,000.

In October or November of 2018 she was arrested and held in the Chemnitz prison. On July 15, 2019, her trial in the Higher Regional Court of Dresden began. Her defense attorney was Gisela Israel. On September 12, 2019, the Higher Regional Court of Dresden sentenced her to 15 months, which was suspended for a period of three years (Case number 4 St 2/19).

Abdullah al-H. H. described himself in a chat as a “sleeper cell”. He researched instructions on the Internet on how to build explosive belts, and was interested in the text “legal leader client for suicide killers”. The festival grounds of the Dresden Marien Bridge and the Cinema Nights on the Banks of the Elbe were apparently then in the sights of Abdullah al-H. H as possible targets for terror attacks. Since August of 2017 the Regional Criminal Police had classified him as a danger.

In September of 2018 the trial against him began in the Higher Regional Court of Dresden. On November 30, 2018, the court sentenced him to a youth sentence of two years and nine months for, among other things, recruiting members or supporters for the Islamic State, obtaining instructions for carrying out a serious state-endangering act of violence, bodily injury and threats. This punishment was carried out, according to the authority, by the district court in Leipzig on December 9, 2019, along with further sentencing for assault on an official and bodily injury.

The accused had to serve this youth sentence in full. Not until September 29, 2020 was he released by the Youth Penal Institution, Regis-Breitingen (Saxony). The district court in Borna ordered supervision for him. Thus he had to report three times weekly to the police station in Central Dresden.

On October 4, 2020 Abdullah al-H. H. committed a knife attack on two tourists in Dresden (Palace Street). One man from Krefeld (55 years) died in the hospital, and his companion from Cologne was wounded. At first, it was not clear why and by whom both men were attacked.

The police formed a special commission Palace Street (29 officers) under the direction of First Criminal Commissar, Frank Haschke. On October 20, 2020 Abdullah al-H. H. was arrested near the scene of the crime. Further investigation was taken over by the General Federal Prosecutor.

An alleged Hunter Biden sex tape has been posted online by an anti-Communist Chinese dissident group. It’s disgusting, but also boring. The Feigned Objectivity of Television Reporting

The late German comedian Loriot understood the deep political bias and dishonesty of television more than forty years ago, all the way back in 1979. In the following clip from a talk show broadcast that year, the comedian expressed his opinion on politics and TV.

Many thanks to Hellequin GB for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes and RAIR Foundation for the subtitling. The translator sends this thumbnail bio from Wikipedia:

Bernhard-Viktor Christoph-Carl von Bülow (12 November 1923-22 August 2011), known as Vicco von Bülow or Loriot, was a German comedian, humorist, cartoonist, film director, actor and writer.

He is best known for his cartoons, the sketches from his 1976 television series Loriot, alongside Evelyn Hamann, and his two movies, Ödipussi (1988) and Pappa Ante Portas (1991).

On the television series Unsere Besten (Our Best), Loriot was ranked the 54th best German ever. In a special comedy episode of Unsere Besten, he was ranked as the most famous German comedian ever.

From Fahrenheit 451 to Cancel Culture: Bradbury Predicted People Would Demand Tyranny

Over the years Nash Montana has done yeoman’s work for us translating Swiss dialects and German. In the following essay she expands her repertoire with a look at the dark heart of the Culture Wars.

From Fahrenheit 451 to Cancel Culture: Bradbury Predicted People Would Demand Tyranny

by Nash Montana

Even if it has been a while since you read Fahrenheit 451, you might remember Ray Bradbury’s classic for its portrayal of a dystopian future in which an authoritarian government flies drones to control the people, and burns books.

Read Fahrenheit 451 again to discover why people wanted their tyrannical government to burn books. Bradbury wrote the book in 1953, yet the parallels to today’s social climate for censorship are haunting.

Bradbury’s protagonist is Guy Montag, who, like all firemen in Bradbury’s future, burns books.

In Bradbury’s dystopia, firemen became “custodians of our peace of mind, the focus of our understandable and rightful dread of being inferior; official censors, judges, and executors.”

Today’s mainstream and social media are “custodians of our peace of mind” as they filter out “conflicting theory and thought.”

Captain Beatty is Montag’s boss. Beatty explains, “If you don’t want a man unhappy politically, don’t give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one.”

If you don’t want people debating questions such as COVID-19 policy, Beatty has the ticket: “Cram them full of noncombustible data, chock them so damned full of ‘facts’ they feel stuffed, but absolutely ‘brilliant’ with information. Then they’ll feel they’re thinking, they’ll get a sense of motion without moving.”

Today, millions listen daily to reports of case counts of COVID-19. Like Bradbury predicted, listeners can recite the numbers but have no context to make sense of the numbers.

Many have little idea that important scientists and doctors have advocated alternatives to lockdowns that could save lives and abate catastrophic impacts on economies.

As in Bradbury’s world, many are working tirelessly to disparage and censor alternative views.

In Bradbury’s dystopia, thinking was not welcome. Even front porches were eliminated. One of Montag’s young neighbors explained why:

“People sat there sometimes at night, talking when they wanted to talk, rocking, and not talking when they didn’t want to talk. Sometimes they just sat there and thought about things, turned things over… they didn’t want people sitting like that, doing nothing, rocking, talking; that was the wrong kind of social life. People talked too much. And they had time to think.”

Social distancing is today embraced as a way to keep us safe from COVID-19. Social distancing also keeps us safe from “conflicting theories and thoughts.” Chairs have been removed from social gathering places. Hallways are quiet. Nobody stands around the water cooler. People have few places to talk with each other. The parallel to porches is haunting.

Perhaps you are sensing a shift in social norms undermining parental rights and the sanctity of the family. Bradbury foresaw a push for government-funded pre-school. Captain Beatty explains, “The home environment can undo a lot you try to do at school. That’s why we’ve lowered the kindergarten age year after year until now we’re almost snatching them from the cradle.”
