Brigitte Bardot Speaks Out in Support of the Yellow Vests

Men of a certain age will recall Brigitte Bardot as a sex siren par excellence in French cinema during the 1960s. In later years Ms. Bardot took up animal rights as her cause, and then resistance to mass immigration into France. The latter activism has caused her to be prosecuted several times.

In the following pair of videos Ms. Bardot shows her support for the Yellow Vest protesters by donning a yellow vest and speaking to the press.

A Louisiana Sunday Hymn

This is a popular hymn in Cajun Country. Sometimes I am homesick for the food and the music…but seldom the (below-sealevel) climate. Maybe in January??

Though I got to know some of the Canucks in New England, I never heard their music. However, what that Canadian French remnant who managed to survive the trek to Louisiana created still lives deep in my Irish soul. The similarities of the heart converge sometimes.

The French lyrics are below the jump as is the English translation.

The images you see are the large extended family of L’Angelus. It looks like they’re on a levee.

Meanwhile, Back in Bangkok

As long-time readers know, H. Numan is not just our Dutch correspondent, he is also our Bangkok correspondent. In the latter capacity, he sends this much-needed update on the latest political goings-on in Thailand.

Meanwhile, back in Bangkok

by H. Numan

I haven’t written about Thailand for a long time. There’s a good reason for that: we had several military coups. Generals generally don’t like to be criticized, and ours are no exception. As both the Baron and I can’t afford legal fees, better be safe than sorry. Also, his late majesty King Bhumibol died. His successor is king Maha Vajiralongkorn, his son. King Bhumibol reigned from 1950 to 2016; that’s 76 years. His reign was the longest ever in Thai history, and one of the longest rulers of all time. The new king is therefore no spring chicken. At 64 he is the oldest ruler of Thailand ever to ascend to the throne. Currently queen Elisabeth II of the United Kingdom holds the title of longest-ruling monarch.

Now, about that criticism generals and kings don’t like: Thailand has the strictest lèse-majesté laws, not on this planet, rather in the entire solar system. Any criticism can — and must — be prosecuted by the authorities. The punishment is 12 years in jail, for each offense. Offenses can be cumulative: someone liked 6 ‘wrong’ pictures of the king on Facebook a couple of years back, and got 6 x 12 = 72 years. Under Thai law the sentence can be reduced by half by the court if the suspect cooperates, which he did. So this chappie only has to serve a mere 36 years for liking something incorrect on Facebook. It’s also an excellent way to get even with people you have a quarrel with: when you submit a charge of lèse-majesté, the police must investigate it by law, even if they know it’s a trumped-up charge.

The generals were quite keen on using the lèse-majesté laws to get opponents off the streets. The last coup happened in 2014, and is about to be ended with ‘democratic’ elections to be held on the 24th of March. Strict censorship is still in place, but a bit relaxed. So I don’t have to worry too much about getting 12 years or more in jail. Let’s update you folks what’s happening in the land of the smileys:

Living in Thailand I am amazed how the Thais can get away with just about anything. We have had a full-blown mohammedan uprising in the three southernmost provinces bordering on Malaysia since 2004. Sometimes the terrorists expand their activities outside those provinces. The two most infamous of those attacks were the one at the Erawan shrine in 2014, and the Mother’s Day bombing on 12 August 2015, almost to the day a year later. Those two were by far the worst terrorist attacks ever in Thailand.

The Mother’s Day bombing was a series of bomb attacks in Bangkok and the southern part of Thailand with, 17 victims. The attack on the Erawan shrine — which is, incidentally, within easy walking distance of my house — was the worst attack ever, with over 20 victims.

Technically the attack on the Erawan shrine wasn’t done by our own home grown mozzies, but by Uighurs. A few weeks before Thailand extradited 200 of them back to China. The Uighurs didn’t like that and took revenge. Uighurs are, by the way, also muslims, but from China.

Those two attacks made international headlines, but the day-to-day violence since 2004? Rarely. Don’t underestimate it. Since 2004 more than 7,500 people have died due to mohammedan violence. That’s more than both intifadas and the Northern Irish civil war combined.

It’s a real mess down south. Teachers and government officials are regularly targeted. So much so that teachers get guns, ammunition, training and severance pay from the government. A full army corps is necessary to keep some semblance of law and order. Without any attention whatsoever from the international media…

The same goes for corruption. The generals who committed the last coup in 2014 said they did it to combat corruption. Now, we had a funny little incident that show how sincere they are. Vice Premier General Prawit Wongsuwan was seen wearing a very expensive watch. Someone discovered he hadn’t declared that watch when he took office. So people started paying attention what he was wearing. It turned out he had a whole collection of very expensive and undeclared watches, about 24 of them. Not to mention undeclared expensive diamond rings as well.

A Bridge Too Far

Tabitha Korol’s latest essay concerns a recent event staged by the “Interfaith” movement — which, as Maj. Stephen Coughlin has so assiduously documented, is simply a cover for infiltration and indoctrination by agents of the Muslim Brotherhood, in which naïve Christians and Jews become unwitting dupes.

A Bridge Too Far*

by Tabitha Korol

It was brought to my attention that Westmount Temple Emanu-el Beth Shalom in Montreal hosted a Muslim-Awareness Interfaith Shabbat Dinner on January 25, 2019, to pay homage to the six dead and nineteen wounded from a lone attack on a Montreal mosque two years previously. Such well-meaning, but naïve, efforts were hijacked by Muslim apologists to promote their false victimhood status to garner sympathy from others.

One might wonder why there was no outreach from Jews or Muslims for the desecration attack in March 2018 on a synagogue in Thornhill, and no homage paid for the October, 2018 massacre of eleven congregants of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, inasmuch as Canada and the US are connected in many ways. Neither was there any form of condolence or apology offered when a small Canadian Arab newspaper, Al Saraha, published an antisemitic article that posited why Hitler killed the Jews, stated that the number of six million Jews killed during the Holocaust was severely inflated, and asserted that Jews are to blame for Germany’s economic collapse, sexual license and promiscuity.

Inasmuch as the Jewish-Muslim Interfaith Dinner so closely preceded Holocaust Remembrance Day, a day designated to confront the hatred and crimes against the Jewish people, it begs the question as to why that was not incorporated into the outreach, except that Muslims do not grant victimhood status to others, and they continue to deny the Holocaust as the systematic murder of six million Jews. Our FBI records show that Jews still experience the greatest number, by far, of attacks and assaults, yet nothing was done to honor those victims and awaken the attendees to the dire situation of antisemitism that is once again upon us.

It is pertinent to include herewith a few unpalatable facts. Muslims have killed 669 million people over 1400 years, a number quite astounding, but correct. Those who were not killed — the Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus and others — were forced into captivity and conversion. They became the ancestors of today’s 1.6 billion Muslims, including the masses who are now committing unspeakable crimes in Sweden, Germany, France, England — 29 countries worldwide.

Arab-Islamic attacks on Jews began with the Battle of Khaybar in 628 AD, against Christians with raids into Byzantine lands in 630, and rapidly engulfed the non-Arab people of North Africa, Spain, Persia, and beyond. In 1801, the Barbary pirates attacked American shipping, and in 2000, the USS Cole. The World Trade Center was attacked twice, in 1993 and 2001, followed by group bombings, shootings, stabbings, and property damage — hate crimes. However, in a country the size of America, the imams have informed their jihadis that eventual conquest must be achieved by other means — through civilizational or stealth jihad. Hence, our government now has an inordinate number of Muslims in office. Unashamedly antisemitic and anti-American, they are working to change our laws to be increasingly socialist and then sharia-compliant.

Mobile Phones Stolen in Barcelona Are Bound for the Souks of Marrakesh

The following article from Catalonia offers a fascinating peek into the trade in stolen hand-held devices, most of which end up being sold in the phone shops of North Africa. I had always wondered how thieves could circumvent the unique identifiers found in each phone, and it turns out there is a new layer of Chinese middlemen who know how to disassemble the devices and change their IDs. Clever fellows, those Chinamen!

Note: As usual, when the article refers to “Romanian” criminal gangs, it means gypsies or Roma, but the tenets of political correctness forbid identifying the perpetrators in such a fashion.

Many thanks to Pampasnasturtium for translating this article from the Catalonian daily La Vanguardia:

The profitable black market encourages the theft of mobile phones

Every day, in the city of Barcelona alone, more than 330 thefts of mobiles are recorded

by Mayka Navarro, Barcelona
February 4, 2019

[Photo caption (not shown): Coveted items: the high price of smartphones has turned them into a preferred booty of thieves.]

In the city of Barcelona an average of 450 thefts are recorded (by the police) daily. [Translator’s note: ‘robos al descuido’, being robbed due to not minding your property.] More than half of those thefts take place in the streets of Ciutat Vella. And in 75% of the cases, a telephone is the object sought after by the thief.

Long ago criminals realized that it was a lot more profitable to pilfer a mobile than a wallet. And even a lot easier. Tourists use their mobiles every day more as a camera, and the dependence that a high percentage of the population suffers from causes those items, with a value in many cases around a thousand euros, to be carried around in the hand with nonchalance and hardly any precautions. A coveted object always in sight to be checked at any time, or snatched in a few seconds.

After the crime, mobile phones begin a dizzying journey that can take them, in a few hours, to be sold in any phone shop of a Moroccan city. The northern African country is the main destination of an immensely high percentage of the devices stolen in Barcelona. It’s curious, because important brands like Apple have no official stores in the neighboring country, but there are dozens of shops in Casablanca or Marrakesh where they’re sold as if they were new. Many users have suffered a theft and afterwards they complain that, when activating the geo-location system of the device, they verify that it is already located on Moroccan territory.

Ciutat Vella is the main setting for this type of crime, and the tourists the victims

Phones are stolen because there’s a big black market ready to buy them, without asking where they come from. The illegal (stolen phones) reception business results in such minimal penalties that it is impossible to dedicate police resources to investigate a group of criminals who are set free the next day.

The Ciutat Vella chiefs of police acknowledge that the streets of the area are, furthermore, the place where all the phones stolen in the rest of the city are gathered. All the people in charge of reception, who take care of giving a second life to hand-held devices, live there.

At this time the profile of the mobile thief is largely a Moroccan minor or teenager who has (legally) become an adult [translator’s note: turned 18], and has decided to survive by committing crimes outside of the (publicly-funded) guardianship system. Alone or in a group, he chooses the victims and steals tirelessly. ‘They thieve with great ease because people walk carelessly with mobile in hand. Only if the situation gets complicated, and they detect that it is a high-priced model, will the robbery end up with violence, but that’s in the least number of cases,’ explains an investigations official of Ciutat Vella.

Chicago police now reportedly believe that the “hate crime” attacks against Jussie Smollett were actually staged by the gay African American actor himself. Mr. Smollett alleged that he was attacked and abused by MAGA-hat wearing Trump supporters who threw some kind of chemical liquid over him and hung a noose around his neck. If his story turns out to be false, can we say it was #FakeNoose?

In other news (not noose), Congress passed a spending bill that will prevent another shutdown, but falls short on funding the border wall. President Trump reportedly will sign the bill, and then declare a state of emergency so that the wall can be build using military funds.

The Zweikaiserbund: An “Ever Closer Union” in Europe

As we reported a few weeks ago, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel met last month in Aachen to sign a compact that I’ve been calling the Zweikaiserbund*.

The essay below by Robert Kearney about the treaty signed in Aachen was originally published at Compact News in a slightly different form.

The Franco-German Union, last step towards an EU Empire

By Robert Kearney

On January 22, 2019, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, signed a treaty of bilateral cooperation which pledged to unify both France and Germany in a way not dreamed of since the ninth-century reign of Charlemagne. A new Franco-German Empire of sorts (this was clearly the intent as evidenced by where the treaty signing took place, the town hall of Aachen, France, the city that had been the historic capital of the old Carolingian Empire), this new treaty was received warmly by various European and global elites. However, it raised concern among the more Eurosceptic nations such as those of Central Europe, Italy and even some in Britain (not to mention nationalist and anti-EU parties and citizens within France and Germany themselves). The great fear amongst many in Europe is that this agreement will lead to a unified Franco-German superstate that will further shift the balance of power in the EU away from sovereign nation states and toward a centralized bureaucracy ruled from Brussels with the economic and even military backing of Paris and Berlin.

This Franco-German treaty represents the culmination of years of attempts by the leadership of the European Union to move the bloc from a loose federation of nation states united by economic concerns into an actual centralized, supranational entity akin to a federal republic such as the United States or Germany wherein member states would lose much of the sovereignty they have still managed to maintain, giving it over to a system controlled by a handful of unelected elites who, when allied with corporations, multinational banks, and media systems, will have an almost unlimited control over the lives and freedoms of their member states. Whether this was or wasn’t the original endgame of the EU’s founders is something that can be open for debate. What is clear, however, is that this is precisely the trajectory that the modern European Union is, by its own admission, headed towards.

At first a union of European states was seen by many as not only a way to strengthen the continent’s economy through trade and free movement of goods, and people flowing across now almost nonexistent borders, but also as a “remedy” to the nationalistic impulses of its various member states. On the first premise the entire system was sold, many times very reluctantly, to the nations who joined its bloc, but the second concept was always very present and constituted a large reason why the entire project came about in the first place.

The biggest backers of a unified Europe were always the economic elites who desired the transformation of societies into atomized collections of individuals bereft of any strong national or ethnic ties, who would see themselves as only lone members of a great mass of humanity whose entire existence would be based on the endless consumption of cheaply manufactured consumer goods with little interest or concern for the fate of their wider communities and their descendants who would inhabit them.

This dream had already come to pass throughout the United States of America, the paradise of capitalist consumer culture where the individual and his immediate rights and needs trumped any concern for a lasting and established society based on a common culture, traditions and set of values. In stark contrast stood Europe, a continent of many cultures and subcultures, each having been in existence for centuries, all intertwined by a very collective spirit which emphasized the communal over the individual, tradition over the novel, and national life and values over every passing, mass-produced fad. True, this description of Europe may sound considerably idealized when compared to the lives of many, especially the more prosperous parts of that continent today, but it is still a strong part of the strength and ideal that have made up European man and his worldview for far longer than the present age that has been foisted upon us.

Guy Verhofstadt Insults Giuseppe Conte in the European Parliament

Guy Verhofstadt is a Flemish politician who currently leads the parliamentary group Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament. Mr. Verhofstadt is the founder of the Spinelli Group, which is named for the Italian Communist Altiero Spinelli, one of the fathers of the European Union.

Mr. Verhofstadt is best-known, however, as one of the most dedicated promoters of “an ever-closer union” in the EU, and often acts as a bully-boy against any politician from any member state that acts against the interests of the EU, as he sees it. His most recent targets have been in Hungary and Italy, for obvious reasons.

Giuseppe Conte is the current prime minister of Italy for the coalition government of the M5S and the Lega. In the following video Mr. Verhofstadt accuses Mr. Conte of being a puppet for Matteo Salvini (Lega) and Luigi Di Maio (M5S). Mr. Conte’s response follows.

The Mosque That Won’t Go Away

A year and a half ago we reported on a “clandestine” mosque in Milan. But it wasn’t really clandestine; everyone in the neighborhood knew it was there, down in the basement under a condominium. In the previous video we featured, Matteo Salvini even paid the mosque a visit.

As I understand it, the mosque has been in operation since at least 2016. And now here we are in 2019: Matteo Salvini is the interior minister, and the mosque is still there. It’s illegal, and local politicians promised to close it down, yet it remains. Perhaps the mayor and city councilors didn’t want their houses firebombed by angry “youths”, and decided to let sleeping dogs lie.
