We won this fight without going to the Planning Committee. Hundreds of people wrote letters, sent emails and posted complaints to the council website, vehemently opposing the proposed mosque. A ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was announced earlier today. It was brokered by the Egyptian foreign minister and Hillary Clinton during the latter’s visit to Cairo.

However, numerous reports say that the rockets are still being fired from Gaza into southern Israel. One such report has just come in from our Israeli correspondent MC, who is in Sderot:

I think this ceasefire is a carefully calculated Clinton calamity. but then, I’m cynical.

There was a strong rumour earlier that the IDF was going into Gaza tonight, and that the logistics corps had been mobilised (for a long engagement). I had thought this had been overtaken by events — but maybe not. We shall see in the morning.

I will update if anything else happens, we can hear the drones up there, now two of them at least.

Egypt FM: Israel: Hamas Cease-Fire to Go Into Effect at 9pm

Kamal Amr makes formal announcement of truce in joint press conference with Clinton in Cairo; Israel will not lift Gaza blockade; PM tells Obama he’s ready to give cease-fire a chance as rockets continue to fall on South.

Egypt announced on Wednesday that a cease-fire had been reached to end. eight days of fighting between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, starting at 9 p.m.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr made the announcement in a joint news conference with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“These efforts … have resulted in understandings to cease fire and restore calm and halt the bloodshed that the last period has seen,” Amr said.

Israel has agreed to the truce, but will not lift its blockade of Gaza as part of the deal, according to an Israeli official.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman were set to address the media at 8.30 pm. Wednesday night.

Netanyahu told US President Barack Obama on Wednesday he was ready to give a cease-fire with Hamas a chance, his office said in a statement.

“(Netanyahu) spoke a short while ago with President Barack Obama and agreed to his recommendation to give the Egyptian cease-fire proposal a chance, and in this way provide an opportunity to stabilize the situation and calm it before any more forceful action would be necessary,” an Israeli statement said…

After Barack Hussein Obama was reelected as President of the United States in November 2012, the regular columnist Frithjof Jacobsen wrote in the Norwegian newspaper VG that the problem for Obama is that as a human being, he is so great that it becomes hard to live up to these expectations as a political leader. He claimed that the same was the case with another left-wing politician, Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

Frithjof Jacobsen suggested that Stoltenberg is in a totally different league from all the other politicians in his country and has displayed exceptional “moral fiber.” If you believe this leading columnist in Norway’s largest national newspaper, “The public person Jens Stoltenberg has given the Übermensch a human face.”

Yes, he used the same term (overmenneske in Norwegian, Übermensch in the original German) as was employed by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche about exceptional human beings above normal morality, which was also used or misused by the Nazis for their own purposes. This is an embarrassing reminder of the tradition for personality cults surrounding various left-wing leaders throughout history, most of them deeply flawed.

It is disturbing to notice that the very same groups and individuals who once appeased or collaborated with totalitarian outside forces during the Cold War are now doing the same thing with Islamic organizations.

Vebjørn Selbekk, the editor of a small Christian newspaper in Norway, on January 10 2006 reprinted the Danish Mohammed cartoons. The former Oslo bishop Gunnar Stålsett reacted by claiming that he did this because he took pleasure in harassing Muslims. Selbekk merely wanted show what the international news story was about.

Selbekk had expected some reactions, but not on the scale of what happened. He soon received 50 explicit death threats from Muslims, and at that point he stopped counting. Some of these were very graphic, with details about cutting his throat in his bedroom. Prior to this, he had lived a quiet family life. Suddenly everything was turned upside down, with bodyguards instructing his children to check for bombs under their car.

In addition to the death threats against him, massive pressure for Selbekk to back down came from leading Norwegian politicians such as Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of the Labor Party. After this event, the FM repeatedly had direct contact with leader Khaled Mashal of the Palestinian Islamic terror organization Hamas, contacts which Støre tried to hide and deny. In 2007, the Stoltenberg government made Norway the first country in the Western world to attempt to “normalize” its relationship with the terrorists of Hamas, since its youth organization AUF, the labor unions (LO) and coalition partner the Socialist Left Party had all pushed for this.

In 2006 Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, at a point when Selbekk’s family were living with constant death threats, pointed to him as personally responsible for the burning of the Norwegian embassy in Damascus, Syria, perhaps the most serious attack on Norwegian territory since WW2. He thereby abandoned one of his countrymen and indirectly gave legitimacy to Islamic death threats against him. Selbekk has later described (video) that he felt as if the Stoltenberg government told militant Muslims “Just take him, he has hurt Norwegian interests.”

The conservative Prime Minister of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, showed some spine during the Cartoon Jihad and refused to apologize to Muslims for the actions of one newspaper in his country. The Socialist Prime Minister of Norway, Jens Stoltenberg, displayed the spine of a badly baked soufflé and quickly caved in to Islamic pressure. If he has the exceptional “moral fiber” of an Übermensch, he certainly didn’t show it then.

As Vebjørn Selbekk warns, what is valuable is not free, including freedom of speech. Unfortunately, that lesson doesn’t seem to have sunk in with everybody, including the leaders of what was once called “the free world.”

In an outburst on Facebook, members of the Norwegian Labour Party youth organization praised Hitler and wished death upon the Jews. Our Norwegian correspondent The Observer has translated an article about the scandal, which seems to have aroused far less outrage in Norway than “Islamophobia” does.

The translator includes this introduction:

This article concerns some members (ethic Norwegians? I don’t think so) of AUF, the Labour Party youth organization, in Hamar (a city approximately 100 kilometres north of Oslo) and their views on Jews and Israel. As you can see from the article they use very blunt and crude language. They actually praise Hitler and the Nazi extermination camps.

It’s not really that much of a surprise that the AUF and other socialist political organizations are firm supporters of Palestinian terrorists and their armed fight against the Israeli state.

It’s also worth noting that the AUF was very keen to talk about ‘yttringsansvar’ (the closest English word would probably be ‘decorum’) after the July 22 attacks in Norway in 2011 when debating multiculturalism and Islam. I suppose different standards apply to them.

No doubt we will see some arrests in the coming days, as there are strict hate speech laws in place in Norway and these statements must surely violate these laws (I am of course being sarcastic; everybody knows that only hateful comments about non-Western immigrants and Muslims result in prosecution).

AUF members harass Jews on Facebook

“F***ing Jew whores, I wish Hitler would return and showered you a little bit more,” wrote one AUF member on Facebook. Many have reacted strongly to the fact that Labour politician Khalid Haji Ahmed participated in the online exchange. Mayor Morten Aspeli (AP – Labour) strongly opposes the harassment.

Hamar Labour Party

Thomas Jensen Jørgensen, the leader of the Labour Party in Hamar, characterizes the Jew hatred coming from several AUF members as completely unacceptable.

“I intend to have a chat with AUF member Khalid Haji Ahmed about what took place.”

Khalid claims that he has been misunderstood.

“I’m going to investigate the matter as I have not yet read the comments on Facebook,” says Langeland Jørgensen.

“I have read about the case in HA and these opinions are so far removed from Labour party politics as it is possible to get. Our approach is a two-state solution. Both the Israeli and the Palestinian population in Gaza are suffering now, thus offensive statements against an ethnic group is completely unacceptable. This is really nauseating. We strongly oppose the comments on Facebook. We now have to conduct an internal conversation within the party regarding the matter, but it is really sad to read about such attitudes. It is totally beyond the pale to equate the Nazi regime of World War Two with the current Israeli regime. It is obvious that some could do with some serious introspective reflection before they post comments on Facebook. I expect that the AUF in Hamar and Hedmark will conduct an internal cleanup,” says Thomas Jensen Jørgensen.

Strong reactions

When a member of the AUF posted a status update that read “f***ing Jews” yesterday afternoon, it didn’t take long for reactions to reach HA. In the comment section several AUF members posted statements such as that Jews should be burned. And when high profile AP (Labour) politician Khalid Haji Ahmed joined the debate he didn’t distance himself from these sentiments. Ahmed wrote two comments that appear to be supportive. Ahmed himself claims that he has been misunderstood.

“I talked to them in youthful language. It was not support, but rather my way of rebuking them,” he says.

Redacted the comments

The youthful language is of such a nature that HA do not wish to republish the comments.

“I know the young people concerned and I know that I have to yell at them in a way they understand. This is not praise, but rather ‘Khalid rebuke’. I tried to say ‘Oh, good luck, then, if you want to go ahead and do silly things’,” he says.

He now fully renounces the Facebook status updates.

“I met the boys in town afterwards and I explained to them that they cannot write things like that. I explained that it’s like saying ‘damn Christians’ or ‘all Muslims are terrorists’. You can’t make sweeping generalizations about an entire ethnic group. There are also innocent Jews in the world,” says Ahmed.

Torches for the dead

He points out that during the ceremony at Triangelgården on Saturday torches were lit for the dead on both sides of the Israeli / Palestine conflict.

“In my speech I pointed out that we lit 71 torches. Three of the torches were for those that died in Israel, which shows that I am eager to denounce violence and honour the dead on both sides,” he says.

Completely unacceptable

Group leader, Gry Veronica Engli of the Hamar AP (Labour Party), where Ahmed is a councilor finds the statements posted on Facebook unacceptable.

“They are very serious allegations and they are written in a very crude language. I think they are angry and that they are very emotionally involved, and I can understand that. But they have to find other ways to express themselves,” says Engli.

The German Defence League stands in solidarity with EDL leader Tommy Robinson, and the Berlin Division produced this video after their weekly Thursday night vigil in front of the British embassy:

A female teacher of Islam in Austria says that homosexuals should be incinerated and then sent to hell, which is in the Black Sea. The Islamic Religious Community in Austria explains her unusual ideas by saying that she lived for too long near Mecca.

She’s being investigated for “hate speech”, but don’t hold your breath waiting for her to suffer a punishment like that meted out to Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff.

Female teacher of Islamic religious education wants homosexuals to be incinerated.

‘She lived for a long time near Mecca and has lost sense, this is what we can say”

A female teacher of Islamic religious studies is causing stir with her declarations. As reported by Der Standard, while giving a lesson on religion the woman allegedly declared among other things that homosexuals should be incinerated.

She also allegedly explained to her pupils that the Black Sea is the upside-down hell in which homosexuals lie by thousands. When speaking with Anna Strümpel, the journalist from Der Standard, the teacher did not deny these declarations, but she did not wish to be quoted.

Currently she teaches a dozen pupils in two classes. One of the pupils reported these declarations to the school administration, but it has not reacted to them. The Islamic Religious Community in Austria knows about the teacher’s opinions. But before making any declaration to Der Standard regarding this issue, “an in-depth conversation with her” would be desirable.

The Islamic Religious Community presumes that after having spent a whole year near Mecca, she has lost sense of what one can say in a Western society.”

Niko Alm, the chairman of the organization for those not tied to any confession, demands that the teacher be removed from her duty, and is considering filing a complaint for hate speech. He commented to Der Standard that the declarations of the teacher are “superstitions nonsense”.

Some 430 teachers of Islamic religions teach in Austria. The majority of them deliver their lessons impeccably. Cases like that of the criticized teacher are individual ones.

Devout Muslims who move to Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States expect that their customs and practices will be tolerated in their new home.

We, the kuffar of the West, are expected to accept those long beards, the beanies and nightgowns, and especially the black bags over their chattel women. We celebrate our diversity by being tolerant of the exotic ways of newcomers from distant lands.

Qatar: Tourism Authority, Foreign Women to Dress Modestly

‘One of Us’ campaign not compatible with 2022 World Cup, web

(ANSAmed) — DOHA — Some Qatari women want foreign female visitors to respect local clothing traditions and the local penal code, and the Qatar tourist authority has decided to support them, Doha News reported on Monday.

Called ‘One of Us’, the women’s campaign wants to ban shorts, sleeveless shirts, and revealing dresses. “Help us preserve Qatari values and culture. Please dress modestly in public spaces, covering knees and shoulders,” reads the campaign flyer. “We’re not trying to impose the hijab (traditional Gulf-area long black tunic and veil), just a modest way of dressing that won’t force us to see too many body parts when we’re in public,” said campaign organizer Najla Al-Mahmoud. The country’s tourist board decided to sign on to the campaign, which was launched in June, to make tourists feel welcome and help them avoid embarrassing situations, according to Doha News. The emirate’s penal code bans what is considered to be indecent clothing in public.

The Qatari international community, which makes up 95% of the population, commented on social media that such a campaign is not compatible with a country hosting the 2022 World Cup, which will attract thousands of tourists.

Other web commentators pointed out that modest apparel is the least of Qatari women’s problems: the disparity between men’s and women’s salaries rose 22.7% over last year, data from the emirate’s statistics bureau showed. Both Qatari and foreign women are paid 25-50% less than their male colleagues, according to the data.

Last year the United Nations, at the behest of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and with the support of the U.S. government, finally succeeded in passing Resolution 16/18, which would require the Western democracies to enact legislation preventing the “defamation of religions”.

The summit meeting on July 15, 2011 between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu in Istanbul launched what became known “Istanbul Process”. Mrs. Clinton committed the United States to a partnership with the Islamic world for the purpose of implementing the legislative results required by 16/18.

In a historic speech, Mrs. Clinton outlined her approach to reining in “Islamophobia” within the United States and other Western nations:

In the United States, I will admit, there are people who still feel vulnerable or marginalized as a result of their religious beliefs. And we have seen how the incendiary actions of just a very few people, a handful in a country of nearly 300 million, can create wide ripples of intolerance. We also understand that, for 235 years, freedom of expression has been a universal right at the core of our democracy. So we are focused on promoting interfaith education and collaboration, enforcing antidiscrimination laws, protecting the rights of all people to worship as they choose, and to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.

“Peer pressure and shaming”, however, are just the beginning. They are part of a softening-up process that will culminate in legal measures — which, in the USA, will mean abrogating part of the First Amendment — restricting what people may say or publish about Islam. This is the ultimate goal; the OIC will accept nothing less.

Writing at Pajamas Media today, Patrick Poole has exposed the official collaboration of the State Department at an OIC confab on “Defamation Acts against Islam”. The participation of a high-level American diplomat was openly announced — until Mr. Poole’s article appeared, and then the OIC quickly airbrushed the U.S. Consul General in Jeddah out of the picture.

Here’s what the OIC website originally said:

The headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will host a symposium on “Defamation Acts against Islam: conflict dimensions and perspectives of co-existence between Islam and the West” on Monday 19/11/2012.

The Session will be attended by Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the OIC Secretary General. It will be chaired by Ambassador Ahmad Taib, Director General of the Branch of the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Makkah Al-Mukarrammah region. It will also be attended by Sergey Kuznetsov, Consul General of the Russian Federation and Anne Casper, US Consul General in Jeddah.

And here’s what the second paragraph says now:

The Session will be attended by Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the OIC Secretary General and members of the Jeddah diplomatic community and other invited guests.

In his initial post, Patrick Poole noted:

The OIC has made no secret of its intentions to use the UN and international law to criminalize what they consider to be “defamation of Islam.” For example, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu gave a speech last Friday on “An OIC Approach for Combating Discrimination and Intolerance against Muslims,” in which he gave a road map of how they plan to do it:

OIC’s position has all along been entrenched in international legal instruments and we need to build on this tradition. We must emphasize that there is no hierarchy of human rights whereby a single right can trump others. Freedom of opinion and expression is among the fundamental rights. It does not include a licence to hate mongering. Freedom of expression does not mean the right to vilify. Our position must also be rooted in history and culture. Having indicated our seriousness at building consensus, we must seek to be reciprocated in the same spirit. We need to seek multi-stakeholder support for an international discourse seeking an intercultural solution — A solution that acknowledges that denigration of symbols and personalities sacred in Islam must be viewed as a matter of identity. It inflicts the psyche of Muslim all over the world. It is in that context that we seek an end to the systematic pattern and increasing frequency of events that contribute towards stereotyping, stigmatization and alienation of Muslims. Such events constitute an affront to human dignity violating the whole range of human rights of victims.

Coinciding with that “brainstorming” session during the OIC’s annual meeting of foreign ministers, the OIC released its Fifth Annual Report on Islamophobia, which is primarily directed at acts of free speech committed in the United States.

Hillary Clinton’s complicity with the OIC towards these ends is no surprise either, since she met twice with the OIC last year as part of the “Istanbul Process,” including her vow to use “old fashioned techniques of peer-pressure and shaming “ to target “Islamophobia.”

Those meetings played out last December when the State Department backed the OIC-drafted UN Human Rights Council Resolution 16/18. Check out the membership of the UN Human Rights Council.

No word on when Hillary Clinton intends to press the OIC about the pandemic racism and “kafirphobia” of the Muslim world.

However, it turned out that the chosen venue was too small, and we were offered larger premises,” says the Danish publisher.

John Lykkegaard received the first request in May 2012, but due to the European Football Championships, the Olympic Games in London and the Tour de France, he consulted the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, and chose to postpone the event until November 2012. Now, though, because of Mr. Westergaard’s health, they have had to cancel altogether.

“Kurt Westergaard was to have signed his book and promoted it in the Anglophone world, but now he is now regrettably too weak to travel. We started by cancelling New York, hoping he would still be able to manage the event in London and had planned to fly home immediately after the presentation, but we have had to cancel this event as well,” John Lykkegaard explains.

“There is a price totaling 11 million dollars on Kurt Westergaard’s head. At one point it seemed the terrorists would miss out,” the Danish publisher comments sarcastically, and continues:

“On the other hand the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET), will probably breathe a sigh of relief after the cancellation of the trips promoting the English version of the book on Kurt Westergaard — whose drawing of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban inflamed the Middle East.”
