The Play’s the Thing

Concerning the events of the last 24 hours: the Iranian attack on Israel resembles an extravagant theatrical production. Just look at all the media hoopla about an operation that didn’t kill or seriously injure anyone.

Iran was behind the Hamas attacks last October 7. It has also been behind the recent Hezbollah attacks on northern Israel, which have driven thousands of people from their homes. Those two operations (and many others) show that the Iranians can be very effective at harming Israel when they want to.

Conclusion: the mullahs didn’t really intend to do any serious damage to Israel last night.

I’m not sure what the motivation was for all the theatre, but I’m convinced it’s theatre. Mark Steyn has reached similar conclusions. And so has Sundance at Conservative Tree House. (That last link features some plausible speculation about what’s behind the scrim.)

Everything I say here is pure speculation. I’m no expert. I don’t know what’s going on. I just know there’s more to this than meets the eye.

Whenever I encounter indications of skullduggery, the first question I ask myself is: Cui bono? In this case, the answer is not at all obvious. There are, however, some data points that are worth examining.

According to The Jerusalem Post:

Iran informed Turkey in advance of its planned operation against Israel, a Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters on Sunday, adding that Washington had conveyed to Tehran via Ankara that any action it took had to be “within certain limits.”

Turkey, which has denounced Israel for its campaign on Gaza, said earlier on Sunday that it did not want a further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Turkish source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had spoken to both his US and Iranian counterparts in the past week to discuss the planned Iranian operation, adding Ankara had been made aware of possible developments.

So the USA gave the green light for Iran to attack Israel “within certain limits”. And what might those limits have been? Based on what eventuated last night, it seems that Iran was enjoined not to cause significant Israeli casualties or do serious damage to the infrastructure of the Jewish state.

Those are pretty hard terms for a jihad-based entity like the Islamic Republic of Iran. Why would the mullahs agree to such humiliating restrictions?

After all, the Israelis did severe damage to Iranian honor by attacking that building in Damascus and killing major Iranian assets. Iran was honor-bound to mount a decisive response against Israel. They needed something to that would make faithful Muslims take to the streets all over the world, shouting with joy and handing out candy. But they also knew that if they were effective in their actions, Israel might do them significant damage. The Jewish state is quite capable of doing grievous harm to Iran. Doing so might trigger World War Three, with mushroom clouds waiting just over the horizon, but Israel can certainly nobble Iran if the situation is dire enough to require it.

Knowing all this, the State Department made Iran an offer that would allow it to salvage its international honor without ushering in Armageddon. Presumably the panjandrums at State also had enough leverage to persuade the Israelis to go along with the dirty deal.

So that’s a possible explanation for what Iran got out of the deal. What did the USA and its British mini-me get?

I think Sundance has nailed it: the Ukraine funding compromise will be jiggled loose, and Mr. Zelensky will get all that money he’s been whining about for the last few months.

As a bonus, the Great Satan will be able to present its historic victory as the result of a new grand alliance among Western nations and Sunni Islam. In reality, it’s just the USA, Britain, France, and Jordan, of course, but that will do as a Potemkin front.

Everything that happened was scripted. Their performance makes kabuki theatre look ad-libbed.

Just look at the guy on the left keeping his eye on the camera. And the outrage exhibited by the fellow with the big mouth looks as spontaneous as the action in a WWE match:

This is all theatre. We have been set up.

Putin supporters and Jew-haters are being played just as effectively as are the Jew-lovers and Israel-supporters (not to mention the progressives). This theatrical production is being staged to divert everyone’s attention from what’s really going on.

Keep an eye on Ukraine funding. If the Republicans in Congress manage to agree on a “compromise” bill to provide all those extra billions to Volodymyr, you’ll know that the theatre has served its purpose.

  1. “Conclusion: the mullahs didn’t really intend to do any serious damage to Israel last night.”

Israel spent about a billion dollars defending against a stunt. That some damage. Also the lead time on replacement for what was used is 6 months.

  2. A billion dollars defending? Expensive Iron Dome and Patriot missiles shooting down much cheaper Iranian drones! Similar with the Ukrainians initially shooting down cheap older Russian missiles.

    • The cheap Iranian drones were shot down by fighter planes far from Israel’s borders.

  3. Iran gave everyone 72 hours notice. $1.1billion is George Galloways estimate for the Israeli US defence cost. Iran has a much lower cost base like Russia has. They have the cheapest energy costs in the world so everything is cheaper to make there. projecting our cost base onto them is ridiculous.

  4. I concur, it’s theater. Part of the WW3 Psyop within the Global Potemkin Village.

Controlled conflict escalation, with some mushroom clouds at the end — and we’ll beg for Their only Safe & Effective solution: the One World Government.

  5. I suspect they found out about the Russians’ successful strategy of dealing with the Patriot systems given to Ukraine, by simply deplete the eyewateringly expensive ammunition these things use with a swarm of dirt-cheap drones, to follow up with a precision strike afterwards. The latter may not have been the goal of the Iranians this time, but they sure are rolling on the floor laughing about the bills for Israeli and Western taxpayers. And they might keep this up hoping to drain the enemy’s finances until exhausted. It doesn’t seem entirely irrational to assume this could succeed.

    • Just remember, the Obiden regime is funding Iran now and probably the Germans/EU as well. Plus the Israelis buy German subs so don’t laugh too loudly…

  6. US election coming and the Ob- iden national socialists need to show their “might” Also UK election that will drown the Conservative Party but no one cares about Britain, we are just another Islamic satrap.

  7. Biden said DON’T, but the Mullahs didn’t care.
The drones and cruise missiles were easy targets, but they sent a hundred missiles, with payloads of up to 750kg. There was no way to be certain that this would not cause hundreds of deaths.
It’s easy to pretend ex post facto failure that there was no intention a priori.
If hundreds of Israelis had died, Iran would be boasting of how much damage it did, and would do next time.

  8. All this conspiracy nonsense was made moot by Israeli strikes on their nuke facilities this evening. The mullahs thought that tugging on the tigers tails that they wouldn’t get bit, that is the problem with tigers, they always bite no matter how toothless you think they are. Well done Israel, make those bloody ragheads howl!
