Innocent Oseghale is Still Guilty

I’ve reported in the past (most recently here) on the case of Innocent Oseghale, the Nigerian culture-enricher who murdered, dismembered, and may have cannibalized the remains of a young girl named Pamela Mastropietro near the Italian town of Macerata.

The life sentence handed down against Mr. Oseghale has finally been confirmed by the Supreme Court. Many thanks to Gary Fouse for translating this article from Il Martino:

Murder of Pamela Mastropietro: Life sentence for Innocent Oseghale

January 24, 2024

The Supreme Court rejects the appeal of the defense and finalizes the sentence of life imprisonment for Innocent Oseghale imposed in the first instance trial and twice on appeal. In 2022, the Supreme Court had requested more details on the aggravated circumstances of sexual violence.

Macerata — Innocent Oseghale was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of young Pamela Mastropietro, killed, cut into pieces, and left in Pollenza in 2018. Oseghale had been convicted in the first instance. The sentence was affirmed twice on appeal, even if in 2022 the Supreme Court had requested more details on the aggravating circumstances of sexual violence.

This was not a small issue, since if it had not been recognized, Oseghale could have avoided life imprisonment. With today’s sentence, the final word has been spoken on a gruesome story, first in the news and then in the courts.

The mother of the young girl burst into tears at the reading and was embraced by many of those present to show their solidarity. A scene quite different from two years ago, when she left the courtroom in a rage over the partial annulment of Oseghale’s sentence. Her t-shirt was also different: when in 2022 it showed the body of her daughter cut into pieces, this morning, it showed her smiling face against a pink background.

The woman is satisfied with the sentence, but certain that the dynamics of the events of that cursed day have not been completely ascertained. She has always been convinced that Oseghale had not acted alone and that the accomplices are still walking around free. “All the uncertainty of these years doesn’t help. To know that there are monsters out there who can still do harm, as they did to Pamela, is a terrible thought.”

  1. I wonder how the other prison inmates react to him?
Prisoninmates of European descent consider childkillers to be the 2nd lowest (the lowest are childrapists) and those prisoners have lots of accidents or accidently swallow cleaning detergents and other harmful substances.

But I believe that the state will protect him to show their multicultural bona fides.
On the other hand: A lot of inmates are already “enrichers” so they will consider him a “brother” and not only protect him but consider him a “hero”.

Why do I like the (fictional) Punisher and Rorschach?

    • Exactly. The measure of how civilised a society is, is the value it places on human life. By that definition, Western societies are no longer civilised.

  2. It’s laughably ‘naive’ or perhaps downright dishonest to punish the terror acts of demented foreign invaders in a civil court; as if they were normal criminals ..
