Dire Straits masterpiece was played frequently on the radio when I was an adolescent although the video made more of an impression on me than the music. The lyrics about “the little faggot with the earring and the makeup” was not too remarkable at the time, but I recall years later hearing it again on the radio and it had obviously been changed to remove the now offensive lyrics.
That was the first time I noticed the cancel culture in something that I had knowledge of.
