The Fundamentals of Islam — At the Gym

Rennes is the capital of the administrative region of Brittany in France. The Muslims of Rennes have outgrown their mosque, and have been granted the use of a local gymnasium by the municipality until their new mega-mosque is ready. The following video tells the heart-warming story of the Muslims who use the gym as a prayer space.

Below are excerpts from the introduction to the video at RAIR Foundation:

The situation in Rennes, where a gymnasium has been repurposed as a temporary mosque, has sparked controversy across France. This move by the socialist town hall of Rennes serves as a temporary solution while awaiting the construction of a mega-mosque on municipal land. The decision reflects a broader debate about special religious accommodations given to Muslims by left-wing politicians.

The Mosque of Blosne, formerly the primary place of worship, had become too small to accommodate the massive influx of Islamic migrants. Muslims decided to apply pressure on the community to accommodate them, so they illegally took to the streets to assert their power and held “prayers” in public spaces, including roads and lawns. Instead of punishing the Muslims for illegally occupying public property, the state rewarded them with temporary use of the gymnasium while a more permanent solution was developed.

Critics of the decision argue that it signifies another step towards the complete Islamization of France, facilitated by left-wing politicians who advocate for open borders and increased accommodation of Islamic practices. They view the transformation of a public gymnasium into a place of worship as an inappropriate use of public resources for “religious” purposes, raising concerns about secularism and the principle of laïcité in French society.

Video transcript:

00:00   This is where we store all the carpets you see.
00:04   They will stay there all week until Friday.
00:08   This is the solution found by the Mosque of Blosne, on Boulevard du Portugal.
00:11   Since it has become too small, the faithful gather in this gym on Fridays.
00:15   Because before we had not this room, so we used to have a lot of problems
00:19   because people prayed on public roads, outside, on the lawn and everywhere.
00:24   So that’s why we still managed to come to terms with the municipality of Rennes
00:28   to have access to these rooms of hope.
00:31   For women, this room is more comfortable, even if it doesn’t deal with a building of worship.
00:35   There is a difference between the mosque and the gym,
00:39   but we are still happy to find a large place where we can pray.
00:44   So it doesn’t change anything because the faithful are happy to be together.
00:49   Even the tiniest spots of the gym are filled with people, for prayer.
01:06   Officially called an Islamic cultural center,
01:09   the mosque was born in the 1980s thanks to the former socialist mayor of Rennes,
01:13   Edmond Hervé. According to the representative of Muslim Worship in Brittany,
01:17   the priority is to live one’s own religion with dignity. We have a lot of worshipers
01:20   who can’t find a place. In particular, I think of women.
01:25   Today there is a difficulty that most mosques do not have
01:30   a large space for women and young girls.
01:34   But a mosque project is being designed on the edges of the Parc des Gayeulles,
01:37   on a plot provided by the city of Rennes. The association “Espoir Amal”
01:40   is planning a 3,000 square meter building that can accommodate several hundreds of the faithful.
01:45   The projects aren’t definitive yet. Out of a budget estimated at 2 million,
01:49   the crowd-funding campaign has reached €300,000, so far, for the moment.
01:54   In the meantime, the Mosque “La Piété” of Blosne will go on welcoming the faithful,
01:58   especially during Ramadan, which begins next March 11.

    • I prefer some AC/DC, Rammstein, and Motley Cew and others of the hard rock variety to play when the muzzy caterwauling begins myself.

  1. So all of a sudden, the sharia-followers care about “women and children”! Right….

And who is paying the “estimated 2 million”?
