California Set Itself on Fire

UPDATE:

There is some question in the comments about the accuracy of the Breitbart material used in this post. The problem stems from their lack of link to a quote from ICE about an illegal alien who was purported to have set some of the fires in Sonoma county.

I looked for the blockquoted material Breitbart used, a quote from ICE, but couldn’t find the source to the original link on ICE’s page (ICE.gov is a bureaucratic nightmare to navigate). However, through some backtracking in the Duck Duck Go search engine, the Baron was able to find this on the ICE website. It’s from the acting Director, dated October 18:

Statement from ICE Acting Director on Sonoma County’s repeated releases of dangerous criminal alien

“Once again, a non-cooperative jurisdiction has left their community vulnerable to dangerous individuals and preventable crimes. ICE lodged a detainer against Jesus Gonzalez with Sonoma County jail officials on October 16, following his arrest on felony charges for maliciously setting fire to a property. This is especially troubling in light of the massive wildfires already devastating the region. Over the past year, ICE has lodged detainers against Mr. Gonzalez after four separate arrests by Sonoma County on various felony and misdemeanor charges. ICE was never notified of Mr. Gonzalez’ various releases. Additionally, Mr. Gonzales has been returned to his home country of Mexico on two separate occasions. The residents of Sonoma County, and the state of California, deserve better than policies that expose them to avoidable dangers. Non-cooperation policies – now enshrined in California state law – ensure only one thing: criminals who would otherwise be deported will be released and left free to reoffend as they please.”

Evidently the name “Jesus Gonzales” is a common one in California. So there is the additional question as to whether the fellow in the Sonoma County jail is the same person ICE is after.

Meanwhile, the Sonoma County sheriff had this to say:

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office arrested Gonzalez, 48, for felony arson, which occurred at Maxwell Farms Regional Park in the Sonoma Valley where Gonzales was sleeping, Giordano said. Deputies recognized Gonzalez who told the deputies he lit the fire to keep warm.

Gonzalez is being held in the Sonoma County Jail under $100,000 bail on the arson charge and under $100,000 bail for a misdemeanor drug related warrant from Ventura County, Giordano said.

He was arraigned Wednesday in jail and his next court date has not been set. The Sonoma County Superior Court is closed until Monday because of the fires.

ICE sent a request on Oct. 16 to detain Gonzalez for 48 hours past his scheduled release date from the jail, but the detainer was not signed by a judge and the sheriff’s office could not legally honor it, Giordano said.

ICE spokesman James Schwab said Wednesday ICE filed an administrative detainer to hold Gonzalez, but Giordano said administrative detainers are considered unreasonable search and seizure in violation of the Fourth Amendment.

“ICE has the ability to obtain a warrant for anyone they are interested in like we do everyday in this county. If ICE obtains a warrant I can legally hold the person and would be happy to do so,” Giordano said.

Gonzalez will remain in the Sonoma County Jail until his arson case is adjudicated and Ventura County will then prosecute Gonzalez, Giordano said.

One has to wonder why the Fourth Amendment applies to illegal aliens. But we are talking about California here. They passed that “sanctuary” “law” and Governor Brown signed the bill:

SB54, by Senate President Kevin de León, D-Los Angeles, bars law enforcement officers in the state from arresting individuals based on civil immigration warrants, asking about a person’s immigration status or participating in any joint task force with federal officials for the purpose of enforcing immigration laws.

At any rate, this seems to be a fog-of-war-and-smoke situation. California has declared war on ICE and has passed a “law” that could be construed as a form of secession, or at least the beginning of a pull-out. Sonoma County is following its new state law to the letter.

See you in court.

The suicidal left continues down the low road. Demented Governor Brown and his henchmen in Sacramento concocted a bill making the Golden State the Crazy State.

Here is ICE’s background commentary about this new sanctuary law [from October 10th]:

Governor Jerry Brown’s decision to sign SB54 and make California a sanctuary state for illegal aliens — including those who have committed crimes — will undermine public safety and hinder ICE from performing its federally mandated mission. The governor is simply wrong when he claims otherwise.

SB54 will negatively impact ICE operations in California by nearly eliminating all cooperation and communication with our law enforcement partners in the state, voiding the delegated authority that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office has under the 287g program, and prohibiting local law enforcement from contracting with the federal government to house detainees.

ICE will have no choice but to conduct at-large arrests in local neighborhoods and at work sites, which will inevitably result in additional collateral arrests, instead of focusing on arrests at jails and prisons where transfers are safer for ICE officers and the community. ICE will also likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California.

Ultimately, SB54 helps shield removable aliens from immigration enforcement and creates another magnet for more illegal immigration, all at the expense of the safety and security of the very people it purports to protect.

Despite the severe challenges that this law creates for ICE, we remain committed to our public safety mission and we will continue to do our sworn duty to seek out dangerous criminal aliens and other immigration violators. ICE seeks straightforward cooperation with all sheriffs and local elected officials. This misguided legislation will severely undermine those efforts.

Now ICE has confirmed that an illegal alien, arrested five times in the past year, deported twice, is responsible for the some of the fires set in Sonoma County — more than one billion dollars’ worth of destruction, not to mention the dozens of deaths.

Breitbart seems to have the only direct quote from Acting Director Homan on this:

Once again, a non-cooperative jurisdiction has left their community vulnerable to dangerous individuals and preventable crimes. ICE lodged a detainer against Jesus Gonzalez with Sonoma County jail officials on October 16, following his arrest on felony charges for maliciously setting fire to a property. This is the logical end state for places like California… and Germany, for that matter.

Let us continue to praise those “populist” leaders who look after their own. Governor Brown isn’t one of them.

  1. If my daughter was murdered by one Jerry Brown’s beloved felon illegals I would lawyer-up and sue the [socialist] state for 100 million.

  2. What insurance company – if any – continues to operate by offering home-owners/property insurance coverage for wild-fires under these circumstances?

  3. How about this? The person is an enemy combatant engaged with other enemy combatants in an act of aggression which targeted the fledgling cannabis industry in Napa Valley that resulted in wholesale property damage and loss of life. Arson that involves the loss of life is mandatory Manslaughter One. If Governor Moonbeam refuses to allow a full ICE investigation then he and the State is an accomplice after the fact.

Trump could, and should, order the National Guard to work with ICE as well as place all law enforcement agencies under the control of the FBI until a consent decree that nullifies SB54 is obtained. Mexico should also be served notice that further acts of this sort will not be tolerated but responded to as foreign aggression with the rules of engagement as per the Geneva Convention.

As we (Californians, I have (had) a cousin-in-law in the Coffey Lane development) have been attacked without warning or provocation, we have every right under the Treaty of Westphalia to chase down and kill those who perpetrated this slaughter as well as anyone who is harboring them. The present Governor should also be impeached for his dereliction in his duty to provide for the security of the State and its citizens.

OK, now that I have had my say you may moderate my comments as we watch the Progressives march to anarchy. BTW, didn’t this happen in Germany some 80-90 years ago??

    • All laws have consequences of some kind, and some of those consequences when brought to the attention of a judge in a court of law, and no matter how horrendously injurious to individuals, may be viewed as being unintentional by the savvy and amoral lawyer.

SB54 is one of those laws passed not for the general public’s safety, but to protect a group of individuals who under ordinary circumstances are in the United States, and in this instance, the state of California illegally.

And as such, under the law of the land they can hold no legal status.

SB54 is a law deliberately designed to protect illegal aliens, a term, as defined within the Federal Immigration Act. Therefore, such a law is illegal and must be determined to be an illegal law that contravenes the Immigration Act by a Federal Court or the higher, Supreme Court.

Under plain moral definition and legal circumstance, Brown and his ideological cronies, with this SB54 law, are acting treacherously toward the lawful citizens of California in that SB54 guarantees certain rights to those deemed as illegal aliens, while excluding the same protections and privileges against the criminal actions of the illegal alien to those who are the ordinary lawful American citizens of the state of California, and in that regard, they fail to fully provide for the general public safety of the lawful citizen and deliberately avoid in recognizing the legal requirements of the United States government.

Send in the troops I say!

    • The Breitbart story claimed to be a quote from ICE…I didn’t find it there, but I’ll look again. The first ICE quote is definitely from their website.

      • Here is what Director Homan said on 10/18

        https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/statement-ice-acting-director-sonoma-countys-repeated-releases-dangerous-criminal

It appears to be a quote from a longer piece…I’ll hunt around.

  4. The narrative from the Sheriff is telling us this guy will be prosecuted for arson, but he didn’t start any of the real fires. He started a fire to keep warm. In 78 degree weather while he was wearing a trench coat. And he can’t cooperate with ICE because a federal judge needs to sign the retainer.

That’s the narrative, don’t kill the messenger.

  5. I grew up in California. Nothing will change for the better, my entire life there, things just got more and more liberal even when the ” people ” did not want it– for ex. the referendum on gay marriage. I am a grown person, and I still resent my parents moving there and “raising” us there. That was a move for their personal interests, nothing more. I got out of there as an adult. I never liked it. Impossible place for social conservatives.

    • I know, I am a second generation native. I saw it sprout in the colleges like so much crabgrass and then spread throughout the lawn choking out everything in its path. Now SoCal is like the eye of the hurricane and we are trying to hold onto what shred of normalcy remains.

    • I too was dragged there by my parents. Thank God my formative years were in a state with a normal school system instead of the People’s Republik.

There were many people on the right where I lived; however, the hordes of low information voters that populate the cities make voting a losing proposition. The situation always reminded me of the long slow retreat of the elves in Tolkien’s novels.

      • To the blessed land across the ocean that is available to only those who have been faithful and kept to their first estate, e.g. Gandalf and Frodo and Bilbo. Sounds like heaven to me. So just how much of Tolkien’s writings are the gospel preached in allegory?

      • A low information and ideologically diverse electorate means that the government will be an unaccountable bureaucracy. Spending will be for the benefit of the bureaucrats, and policies will have the objective of maximizing the influence and minimizing the work of the bureau heads.

I sometimes wonder if the sanctuary city policy is at heart a ploy by elected officials to avoid having confrontations with ethnic identity activists. A bureaucrat is seldom called to account when a released illegal commits a crime, but would have an angry identity group protest if he reported a detailed alien to ICE.

  6. I wonder if the hepatitis epidemic in California which has now even reached the Bay Area might be connected to the third world influx.

    • There’s some sickness going around at a lot of the shelters that were setup for “fire victims”. That’s in quotes because this state is full of people who exploit free handouts. Not just the EBT system. Homeless people constantly go to the emergency room not because they’re injured, because they need a warm bed and a meal. There’s no accountability when the government gets involved, and everyone is paying. Even the homeless people are victims of the government. For if the government didn’t exist neither would they.

  7. A question that I don’t see being asked is how much money Gov. Brown has accepted from Mexican drug cartels. What other reason could there be for this man to sell out his own country and his fellow citizens? His actions simply further the Mexican colonization of California. The same question needs to be asked about other California officials like Xavier Becerra and Fabian Nunez and Eric Garcetti. And then there are all the California assemblymen that have no trouble voting to turn CA into a sanctuary state. Probably many of them have also been bought with drug money.

    • Yet somehow Governor Moonbeam actually obtained the votes necessary to get elected. The Aztecs and M-13 members aren’t enough to account for that. Millions upon millions of white, native English speakers voted to have this man as their governor.

Scale it up, and a similar process elected Hussein as president. Twice.

The core problem is not the invaders and the violent Third World masses. The core problem is not even the white traitors who deliberately, proactively import them.

The core problem is the fact that a large proportion of the productive white native English-speaking population assents via the ballot box to what is happening, over and over again. Willingly, even eagerly. With pride in their own virtue for putting these corrupt criminal traitors in charge.

THAT is the core problem. Until it is addressed and dealt with, nothing will change significantly. The bus will continue its trajectory over the cliff.

The same may be said of Western Europe. A different cast of characters — Africans and Muslims instead of Aztecs, and far more socialism than even California has — but the same process is underway.

      • Consider the possibility that through modern medicine, food and shelter technology, and the welfare state, that the white native population has deteriorated genetically in the past 50 to 100 years, maybe longer.

        http://geniusfamine.blogspot.com/
        http://mouseutopia.blogspot.com/

Dymphna has mentioned in the past how the world may be looking at a radical depopulation in the future, which seemed highly unlikely to me until I read about the Mouse Utopia experiment.

But, I don’t think there’s any question that the white populations will be the first to disappear.

I think there is a basis for optimism, but it involves a cold-eyed look at real science and the willingness to work with real biology. Otherwise, my prediction is, the most viable country in the world will be…North Korea, as unpleasant as it sounds.

  8. Mexican drug cartels regularly buy off politicians and elected officials in Mexico. Why should we think that US politicians and elected officials are any different these days? Mexico is the country that stands to gain the most from CA declaring itself a sanctuary state. It is an excellent way to further Mexico’s colonization of CA. I’ll bet you anything that drug money from Mexican cartels is behind much of the legislation that is rabidly open borders and much of the hysteria and hoopla that agitates against enforcement of US immigration laws.

    • If California is successfully colonized, who will pay inflated prices for the products of the drug cartels?

It reminds me of the old joke from the Soviet Union.

At a meeting of the politburo, the chairman stands up and says “Good news, comrades. We have just received word that the United States has gone communist.”

Everyone is happy and cheering, except one of commissar. Another commissar says, “Why so glum, comrade? We have just gotten tremendous news”.

“Yes”, says the old commissar, “but now, where will we get our wheat?”

  9. During the drought of the early 70s we had bumper stickers that said, “If it’s yellow let it mellow…..” May I suggest a re-write of that bumper sticker, “If he’s Mello, let him yellow. If he’s Brown, flush him down.”

    Moderaters aweigh!!

  10. While I may agree with the title to this article (“California set itself on fire”) but for different reasons, there is absolutely no evidence that illegal immigrant Jesus Gonzelez (or his doppelganger) committed any acts of arson. If we are going to criticize Russiagate for lack of evidence, then we have to do the same in this alleged crime. Maybe evidence will surface but none has been brought forth yet nor do I believe a district attorney has filed charges yet based on evidence. What we have going in Russiagate, the Weinstein scandal based on the mere hearsay of liberal actresses with no police reports over decades and the nebulous grievances of NFL players toward the National Anthem, is manufactured mass hysteria. Sociologist W.I. Thomas once aptly wrote: “If a situation is perceived as real it is real in its consequences”. This sort of mania is what historically has preceded civil and uncivil wars. Conservatives may wish or suspect that illegal immigrants have started murderous wild fires or that Hollywood is found out to be predatory toward women, but the Left wants to play on these “confirmation biases” to manipulate public opinion and whip up hysteria. Conservatives should by philosophy know that nothing is what it appears to be in politics (to wit the Global Warming myth). Conservatives should refrain from falling into the the Leftist manufactured game of mass hysteria.
