Mr. Smith Goes to Toronto

There was a mass shooting last night in Toronto. The incident may not merit the term massacre, since “only” two people were killed, with twelve others wounded.

I don’t know how the perp acquired his weapon, since Canada has such strict gun control. You’re not supposed to be able to buy a handgun up there in the Frozen North. The law obviously needs to be tightened…

Anyway, the incident has all the hallmarks of an Islamic terrorist attack, although it could also be the work of a common-or-garden psycho. However, early indicators are that the guy is at least a dark-complected culture-enricher, since the media are fastidiously avoiding giving out a name or description.

I’ll give a larger excerpt below, but here’s the relevant snip from CTV News:

Saunders said it’s too early to say what motivated the shooting.

“I’m looking at absolutely every single possible motive,” Saunders said.

[…]

Chris Lewis, CTV’s public safety analyst and a former commissioner of the OPP, said investigators would be looking into whether the man was working alone or had accomplices in planning or carrying out the shooting, what he may have been reading or talking about online, and how he obtained his gun.

“Was he inspired by some terrorist group? Was this a specific vendetta to kill a specific person and then he shot everybody else in his path?” he said.

When we eventually learn his “motive”, it will in all probability be that of a “lone wolf” who was “radicalized online”, with “no connection to terrorism”. In other words, unless a membership card for the Islamic State (or Al Qaeda, or Boko Haram, or Al Shabaab) was found in the pocket of the corpse, the perpetrator can’t have been a “terrorist”.

When I got up this morning I hailed Vlad on skype, hoping a card-carrying Canadian could give me more information, but he didn’t know any more than I did:

Baron:   Any word on the Toronto massacre? The article I read was very cagey about “motive”. No perp name, natch.
Vlad:   Yep. And the video link I sent you edits out where they seem about to give descriptions.
Baron:   So no name yet? The name will tell us, unless he’s a revert.
Vlad:   No, I think they are looking for any piece of paper he ever signed in his life where he didn’t use “Mohammed”.
Baron:   Lol
Baron:   Too true to be funny, actually.
Vlad:   So we will hear his name is “gimme ya numba”, as he left that on a napkin at a bar.
Baron:   Or he got a fake driver’s license using “John Smith”. All the media reports can then refer to him as “Smith, a Canadian citizen”.
Vlad:   Yes.

This is a screen cap from one of the videos showing the shooter in action:

I can’t tell anything about the fellow from this photo. He could easily be one of those new Martian immigrants brought into Canada under Justin Trudeau’s Interplanetary Refugee Resettlement Initiative.

Here’s a larger excerpt from the CTV News report:

Toronto Shooting: Deadly Rampage in Greektown

Gunfire rang out along a busy Toronto street Sunday night leaving three people dead, including the 29-year-old man alleged to have been the shooter.

Toronto police say a total of 14 people were shot by a man with a handgun. According to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, two people were killed by a man who “fired shots at groups of people several times” while walking along Danforth Avenue.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders told reporters that police received a call shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday about a shooting near Danforth and Logan Avenues in Toronto’s east-end Greektown neighbourhood. The area has many restaurants, cafes and shops and is busy with pedestrians on summer nights.

Police caught up with the man on nearby Bowden Street. The SIU says shots were exchanged and the man ran back to Danforth, where he was found dead on a sidewalk.

SIU investigators will attempt to determine whether the suspect was killed by police or died by suicide, CP24’s Cam Woolley told Your Morning.

One of the people killed in the shooting was a woman, Saunders said, while a girl believed to be eight or nine years old was in critical condition as of Sunday night.

Multiple witnesses told Toronto’s breaking news station CP24 that they heard anywhere between a dozen and 20 shots. Woolley, a former police officer, said he saw “about a dozen” shell casings in one location and noticed bullet holes in a nearby coffee shop.

“I think he fired at least 30 rounds before he was intercepted by police,” Woolley told CTV’s Your Morning.

Saunders said it’s too early to say what motivated the shooting.

“I’m looking at absolutely every single possible motive,” Saunders said.

He encouraged any witnesses who had not yet spoken to police to come forward with any information, photos or videos they may have.

“That’s the big job of Toronto police. They can’t tell us a lot yet because they don’t know a lot yet.”

  1. In Germany the press gives those people now german names, like Klaus or Volker.
Maybe they write a few lines lower that he is a german citizen with nigerian/ syrian background or his parents came from this place.

And it is never terrorism, it will be a mental illness and his lawyer will say that he is extremely sorry etc.

  2. No Aluha Akbar … so nothing to see here, I guess.
    Move right on along.
Similarly with the 3-year-old in Worcester (England) who had acid or some other corrosive liquid thrown in his face … or the woman who had her throat slit mid-morning in the Hilton hotel in Greater Manchester (England).
Never used to read about such things before ‘They’ started importing ‘Them’ wholesale.
    Just saying!

  3. On a scale of 1-10 this is just a 2… Sorry you are so het up about it. We have become insensitized by terror attacks below a 5.
Why do you want to know who did this anyway? Are you racist? s/

    • I think the B says we’re waaycist. Ever since we got canned from Pajamas Media for publishing something that is milk toast compared to what they now publish every day. You’ve come a long way, Roger Simon.

    • Wow, you’re so inclusive. Who cares if a few mad muslims slit a few throats or gun down a few kuffars? You obviously don’t, unless it was your sister or brother perhaps. Or maybe even then, you would willingly sacrifice them on the altar of diversity.

      • I think Babs was being ironic. That isn’t easy to convey in the comments. She has been a GoV commenter for many years and has always been appropriate.

  4. In the photo it appears that he has a big, bushy beard. Is that what I’m seeing?

  5. Everybody makes mistakes.
Problem is–they can’t ADMIT it (PTB, MSM, ABCBDNBCNNFOX.)
Iffen they were to do so–somebody would have to ADMIT it, and then have to do something ABOUT it.
    …………………………………….then………………………………………….
THE WORLD OF PC COMES DOWN AND SMASHES THEM INTO PIECES.
    Lives, careers, jobs, families……………………………………………………………………………………….gone.

So, it’s unicorns, crickets and skittles.
Problem……………whaaat problem, weee do’hn got no steeenking problem.

  6. “we will eventually learn his motive.’ no if he said “allahu akbar” that is liberalspeak for you will never know my motive.
