8. I’ve waited six decades for the human spirit to break the chains of religious faith and decide for itself. When I was ten, I imagined it was possible, even inevitable. Maybe I was reading too much science fiction.

   But here I am, in the despised future, my body failing and my species on a mission to prove itself uninterested in being the nascent species upon a planet easily describable as a paradise, surviving into a limitless future.

   Let the rest of mankind follow the Head Monkey to oblivion. I’m close to done with it.

     I’m as old as you, I wager, but I see many paths to advancement and enlightenment. They may not be taken, but they’re there.

     The video is a scenario in Kuwait, an oil-rich Arab province that would have a primary industry of goat-herding and date-picking had it not been for the entirely fortuitous event of its floating in oil extracted by competent Western engineers, petroleum scientists, and roughnecks.

     Who cares what the Kuwaitis do to their children? There are many, many paths where their actions and idiocies have zero effect on people in the West. Admittedly, these paths do not include the circumstance where the Western countries engage in wildly profligate spending and put themselves into hock to petroleum-enriched goat-herders.

     The West itself has many problems: mutational meltdown (it’s an actual term), gigantic, unaccountable, extremely powerful, mega-government bureaucracies, and a shift of power to people who have only money and power as objectives.

     But, the same science and technology that gave us the problems gives us viable paths to solutions. It’s not a bygone conclusion we will take those paths. You advertise yourself as skeptic: do you want a god to come down and forcibly lead us to satisfactory solutions without us doing any of the work?

     So, you see religious faith as the untrammeled enemy? Stir your creaking bones one last time to read

         Knee-jerk religious? More lol. Apparently you haven’t read the many posts by Dymphna detailing her nuanced observations on what is an appropriate display of religious faith and what isn’t.

9. The left in America always prides itself on “progress” and education, and seems to enjoy referring to anyone in the south as “inbred idiots who marry their cousins.” But point out areas of the world where cousin-marriage is common and the first thing they do is scream “RACISM!”

10. I was always under the impression that ‘Halal” meant ‘fit to eat’. I don’t know about anyone else, but I know for a fact that plastic isn’t all that delectable.
