Sauce for the Gander

As I posted on Wednesday, Björn Höcke of the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland, Alternative for Germany) was charged, convicted, and fined for using the slogan “Everything for Germany” (Alles für Deutschland), because it had been used by the SA (Sturmabteilung) during the Nazi period.

In an interesting follow-up to the affair, a toothsome influencer named Cathy Hummels used the exact same slogan in a tweet. Mr. Höcke, making the reasonable assumption that turnabout is fair play, filed a complaint about Ms. Hummels’ appropriation of a National Socialist slogan. To no one’s surprise, however, the Munich public prosecutor’s office announced that it will not open an investigation into the case, because this one is different — she’s not a right-winger, don’t you know, so there can’t possibly be anything wrong with what she says.

Punishable slogan? This is how the public prosecutor decides about Cathy Hummels

The influencer and presenter Cathy Hummels is known for many things — but not for controversial political statements. Now, however, she was reported by none other than [Björn] Höcke. What is it about, and what does the public prosecutor say?

Munich

The Munich public prosecutor’s office has announced that it will not investigate presenter Cathy Hummels. The 36-year-old recently wrote on her Instagram profile for an advertising collaboration for the European Football Championship that she was looking forward to a “terrific experience”. She ended her post with the sentence: “Everything for Germany”.

Everything for Germany!” Ms. Hummels thereby supported #AfD politician Höcke. pic.twitter.com/jsPFGPdFRq — Arbeitspause (@Arbeitspause_1) May 17, 2024

The chairman of the Thuringian AfD, Björn Höcke, then filed a criminal complaint against Hummels. The politician, who was recently convicted for the same sentence, justified this on X with the aim of “distorting the absurdity of the verdict beyond recognition.”

Dear Ms. Hummels, unfortunately I will have to report you to public prosecutor Brenzler in Halle. Not because I have anything against you, but to make the absurdity of the judgment against me clearer. pic.twitter.com/PAfxGMrMyn — Björn Höcke (@BjoernHoecke) May 17, 2024

Prosecutors argue with Hummels’ behavior after the post

The spokeswoman for the Munich I public prosecutor’s office, Juliane Grotz, told the Bild newspaper that after the complaint, the judiciary “subjected Hummels’ contribution to an official review as part of a preliminary review process.” The public prosecutor’s office now confirmed: “In view of the immediate deletion of the tweet by the person concerned, her immediately subsequent statements, the circumstances of the post and the person and personality of the person concerned, there were no concrete subjective indications for the initial suspicion of criminal use of characteristics of unconstitutional organizations,” said Grotz. Therefore, the investigation against the influencer has ended.

Björn Höcke used the slogan “Everything for Germany” during a speech in Merseburg, Saxony-Anhalt, in May 2021. For this, he was sentenced to a fine of €13,000 in mid-May. “Everything for Germany” is a slogan of the SA and is punishable in Germany.

Afterword from the translator:

Is there anyone out there — with a functioning and critical brain, that is — that still believes that in Germany, or the entire “democratic” West for that matter, political lawfare is a conspiracy theory concocted by evil “right-wing” Nazis? If yes, just go for your next booster like a “good” subject and the world will eventually become a better place.
