A MAGA Moment for Argentina

As you all know by now, Javier Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist, was elected president of Argentina on Sunday. After his victory he was congratulated by Donald Trump, who urged the president-elect to “Make Argentina Great Again”. Well, at least they won’t have manufacture new hats — the existing stock of red MAGA hats should work just fine.

I’d never heard of Javier Milei until a few weeks ago, so I haven’t had time to research him in depth. His meteoric ascent to the top position has alarmed the chattering classes, who have branded him a “populist”. As Power Line notes, “populism is when the wrong person wins an election.” And The Washington Post ascribed his victory to the “rage” felt by voters. If only the electorate weren’t so angry, they would have voted for someone approved of by the talking heads on TV!

The video below from Argentinean TV shows Mr. Milei’s victory speech after his opponent conceded the election. Many thanks to HeHa for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes and RAIR Foundation for the subtitling:

Video transcript:

00:00   The elected president, Javier…
00:04   The elected president of Argentina. —President! President! President!
00:26   Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!
00:37   It seems so.
00:50   Good evening to all, to all who are here,
00:57   to those who are on the street, also celebrating,
01:03   and above all, good evening to all decent Argentineans,
01:09   because today the reconstruction of Argentina begins.
01:19   Argentina! Argentina! Argentina!
01:30   Today, today, it is a historic night for Argentina.
01:38   Thank you very much to all who came,
01:41   thank you very much to all who made this possible.
01:45   Thank you to the team that has been working for two years to transform Argentina
01:51   and to achieve the miracle of having a liberal and libertarian president.
01:56   Thank you very much.
02:03   Thank you to my sister Karina,
02:07   because without her none of this would have been possible.
02:22   I also want to thank that giant
02:28   who has accompanied me throughout this whole process,
02:32   that giant who usually remains in the shadows, whose name is Santiago Caputo,
02:38   and he is the real architect of this, along with his boss.
02:49   I also want to thank all the members of La Libertad Avanza party.
02:55   who worked non-stop to achieve this goal.
02:59   I also want to particularly thank the election monitors,
03:05   both those of La Libertad Avanza and those of the PRO party,
03:08   who put their bodies on the line to defend the votes.
03:19   Because we said that the votes were there,
03:22   but we had to take care of them, and they took care of them.
03:25   Thank you very much, election monitors.
03:31   On the other hand, I want to thank
03:36   President Macri and Mrs. Bullrich, very much,
03:40   who, in a disinterested way, in an act of greatness,
03:45   as has never been seen in Argentinean history,
03:48   put themselves, body and soul, to defend the change that Argentina needs.
04:00   I want to tell all Argentinean people,
04:03   that today the end of the Argentinean decadence begins.
04:10   Today we begin to turn the page of our history
04:17   and we resume the path that we should never have lost.
04:21   Today the impoverishing model of the omnipresent state is over,
04:25   which only benefits some, while the majority of Argentineans suffers.
04:30   Today the idea is over that the state is loot,
04:33   to be distributed among politicians and their friends.
04:36   Today the vision that the perpetrators are the victims,
04:39   and that the victims are the perpetrators, is over.
04:43   Today we resume the path that made this country great.
04:46   Today we embrace the ideas of freedom,
04:49   the ideas of Alberti.
04:59   In short, the ideas of our founding fathers,
05:03   who made possible that, after 35 years of being a country of barbarians,
05:07   it became the first world power.
05:10   These ideas are based on three very simple premises.
05:14   A limited government, and I want this to be clear,
05:18   a government that is free, flexible and creative.
05:21   This is what I wanted to do.
05:38   The results of this model are there for all to see.
05:42   From being the richest country in the world,
05:45   today we are in the 130th position.
05:48   Half of Argentineans are poor and 10% of them are indigent.
05:53   Enough with the impoverishing model of the caste.
05:56   Today we embrace the model of freedom again
05:59   to become a world power again.
06:26   At the same time, I want to tell all Argentineans
06:31   and all political leaders
06:34   that all those who want to join the new Argentina will be welcome.
06:39   It doesn’t matter where you come from; it doesn’t matter what you did in the past;
06:43   it doesn’t matter what differences we have. I’m sure that what brings us together is more important
06:48   than what separates us, because that’s what will make us put the homeland on its feet,
06:53   and become a power again.
07:02   In short, as long as you want to join the change
07:05   that Argentina needs, you will be welcome.
07:09   We know that there are people who will resist.
07:12   We know that there are people who want to maintain this system of privileges for some,
07:16   and that it impoverishes most Argentineans.
07:19   To all of them I want to tell you the following:
07:22   Within the law, everything; outside the law, nothing.
07:33   In this new Argentina there is no place for the violent,
07:38   there is no place for those who violate the law to defend their privileges.
07:42   We will be relentless with those who want to use force to defend their privileges.
07:48   We want to ask the government to be responsible,
07:51   to understand that a new Argentina has come, and to act accordingly.
07:56   To take responsibility until the end of the mandate until December 10.
08:09   So, once the mandate is over,
08:12   we can begin to transform such a tragic reality
08:15   for millions of Argentineans.
08:18   Let’s understand well, the situation in Argentina is critical.
08:23   The changes that our country needs are drastic.
08:26   There is no place for gradualism, there is no place for being lukewarm,
08:31   there is no place for half measures.
08:42   If we do not move quickly with the structural changes that Argentina needs,
08:46   we are heading straight into the worst crisis in all of our history.
08:51   It is essential that all those who want to embrace
08:54   the ideas of freedom again, work together in all of our history.
09:00   and that we can provide an answer to a society
09:03   that has been abandoned by the political class in recent decades.
09:08   We have monumental problems ahead.
09:11   Inflation, stagnation, the lack of genuine employment,
09:16   insecurity, poverty and indigence.
09:20   Problems that don’t have a solution,
09:23   unless we embrace the ideas of freedom again.
09:26   Problems that don’t have solutions unless those of us who want a different Argentina work together.
09:33   To all those who are watching Argentina from abroad,
09:36   I want to tell them that Argentina will once again
09:39   occupy a place in the world that it should never have lost.
09:42   Our commitment…
09:52   That is why I also want to tell you that our commitment is to democracy,
09:56   free trade and peace.
09:59   We will be working, side by side, with all the nations
10:02   of the free world to help build a better world.
10:06   Today it is a historic night, not for us,
10:10   but because a form of doing politics is over,
10:13   and another one is beginning.
10:23   To the Argentineans, I want to tell you that, despite the enormous problems that the country has,
10:32   despite how dark the situation looks,
10:36   I want to tell you that Argentina has a future.
10:39   But that future exists, if that future is liberal.
10:46   [Freedom, freedom, freedom]
10:57   We are not here to invent anything.
11:00   We are here to do the things that history has shown will work.
11:04   We are here to do the same thing that we did during the 19th century in our country.
11:09   The same thing that countries like Ireland did not so long ago.
11:13   We are here to embrace the ideas of freedom,
11:16   which are those that guarantee the prosperity of the Argentineans.
11:20   If we embrace those ideas, we will not only be able to solve today’s problems,
11:25   but in 35 years we will be a world power again.
11:37   Without any doubt, today we are going to celebrate.
12:15   Yes, we are going to celebrate.
12:20   But it is also true that tomorrow, from the first hour of the morning, we will start working
12:26   so that on December 10th we can start bringing the solutions that the Argentineans need.
12:31   Therefore, I want to thank all of you
12:35   for the enormous work you have done to accompany us,
12:39   for believing in what is possible.
12:44   How many times have we said — and we got tired of repeating —
12:49   that victory in battle did not come from the number of soldiers,
12:54   but from the forces that come from heaven?
13:02   Therefore, I want to thank all of you.
13:08   And I could not finish in any other way.
13:11   Long live freedom, damn it!
13:18   God bless Argentineans. Thank you very much.
13:27   We have been listening to the first words
13:31   spoken by Javier Milei. At this time, his statement was exactly what he wanted to convey,
13:38   a message, of course, loaded with a lot of expectations,
13:42   but also a conciliatory message. It sounded to me like a conciliatory message
13:47   to all Argentineans. “We want to start working from tomorrow on,
13:51   so that on December 10th we can start with all the spirit.” Those were the words of Javier Milei.
13:56   Of course, Argentineans are celebrating, accompanying him.
14:00   Other key words, of course: “Argentina has a future.”
14:05   “And in few years, through good work, good commitment,
14:10   we will become again, therefore, that country, a power.
14:16   the power that we have lost.” Javier Milei even says
14:20   that they will recover, they will take back the place in the world that Argentina lost.
14:28   A message that certainly, from now on, we will see how this continues.
14:34   In fact, he said that Argentina is in a very dramatic situation,
14:40   really affected by the whole economic situation, by all the problems
14:44   that it has been facing in recent years.
14:47   And it’s now that the work will really start.
14:50   He thanked, of course, his team. He thanked those who accompany him in this triumph,
14:57   that he has just become the new president elected by all Argentineans.
15:03   So with this spirit that you are watching right now among the Argentinean people,
15:10   where the excitement, where the spirit can be observed,
15:14   where certainly there are thousands, thousands and thousands of Argentineans
15:18   who sing, who right now celebrate Javier Milei’s triumph.
15:25   And it is already, totally, a triumph.
15:28   Javier Milei is the new president of all Argentineans.
15:32   From different parts of the world, there are already reactions
15:37   from different representatives, from different personalities
15:41   who already celebrate and send a clear message.
15:45   Just notice the preparation that there has been for this moment:
15:50   they knew that this celebration would take place.
15:53   The people who gathered to be here, living this historic moment.
15:59   What might be going through the minds of Argentineans right now?
16:03   What do they expect from the next year,
16:07   the changes that at this moment, are taking place,
16:10   in this country? These are images in real time from Argentina
16:16   with La Libertad Avanza, or La Libertad of Javier Milei. a liberal thought.
16:22   And in fact, he said, a change is coming for Argentina,
16:26   because a liberal change is coming.
16:29   While showing these images, we say goodbye to all of you,
16:35   and we will see each other, with God’s favor, tomorrow,
16:39   when we will cover of course, any news about Argentina,
16:44   the changes that are coming.
16:47   Because tomorrow and the next day,
16:50   we will be informing you so that it becomes clear,
16:53   of what La Libertad Avanza is like.
16:56   That’s the end of our program. I am Norbey Marín, and this is… Today I have to say it, pardon me:
17:04   Long live freedom, damn it! Long live Argentina!
17:07   Long live freedom in our region! See you!

  1. Sorry, but he looks like a trojan horse.
Saying one thing but doing the exact opposite.
Just like the italian Meloni. She didnt stop the invaders.

  2. He has decided to not lead Argentina into joining the BRICS and to instead Dollarise the Argentine Economy. Rumours that he is a WEF stooge seem to be spot-on. He is, indeed, a Trojan Horse.

  3. He’s a strong anti-Communism and anti- Deep State.
He is the total opposite of the WEF.
Watch his interview with Tucker Carlson and you will see.
He’s the real deal and you know this because every Communist, Fascist Prog and Democrat hate this guy.
What he will be able to accomplish in a country of 44 million with 8 million in the private sector but 5 million in the public sector remains to be seen. Argentina has had 75 years of crazy Socialism with different names like Peronism etc., but it has defaulted on its debt (7) times.
The people finally got fed up.
    It’s that simple.

  4. For the moment all I can see is that he’s the caricature of the “nationalist-populist leader” — the way globalist think-tanks would draw that.

  5. Only time will tell ,he said he is for more “open borders” and letting in more “immigrants” .Where and what immigrants come from time will tell Argentina in the past is the most white European like country in South America . With the current trouble in the Middle East he could be receiving thousands of “fleeing” the Gaza plus “other Moslems from conflicts there “” as refugees plus many other unvetted refugees from wars in Africa. We live in truly interesting times .I sure their could be sleeper communist cells from countries north of Argentina that could want to go there and cause trouble. I write this as America is being invaded from the South with a replacement of future democratic voters and possible terrorist sleeper cells.
