All Dressed Up and No Place to Go

Actually, French President Emmanuel Macron did have someplace to go — from one end of the Champs Élysées to the other — but there was no one to watch him do it. The occasion was the Victory Day parade on May 8, when Mr. Macron and his entourage processed down the avenue in their resplendent cavalcade-cum-motorcade. Evidently the security services were worried that it would be too risky to allow the adoring throngs to watch their Dear Leader pass by. Perhaps the intelligence experts thought that some disgruntled gilet jaune might lob a bomb at the Boy President.

00:00   Here on the Champs Élysées, while we are speaking.
00:04   And as you know I am extremely obedient.
00:07   As my chief asked me, we go back to the parade along the Champs Élysées, right away.
00:12   So in a few moments you will watch the President’s convoy pass.
00:18   Yes indeed, I am seeing it pass right now, but there is the chance the public may not see it pass,
00:22   simply because they put a remarkable safety system in place.
00:25   Look at these barriers that are right behind me.
00:28   We need to note that usually, during important commemorations and visits,
00:32   people may station themselves along the Champs Élysées avenue.
00:35   This time these safety measures have been enhanced by the Prefecture, which has forbidden that.

    • Well, Micron is a puny figure.

Likely he thinks he’s a strutting rooster but cockerel would be an exaggeration.

      A bantam napoleon perhaps.

  1. The Victory Day parade on May 8????
    The Arc de Triomphe?

Who did the French ever beat?

Not the Germans in the last three wars they had with then. Not the English – Napoleon got his [posterior] kicked. There were 5 French and Indian Wars in the US and they lost those thus losing the New World except Quebec and St. Barts. Cinco de Mayo is the defeat of the French by the Mexicans of all people, and on and on.

    I know:

    1) The Battle of Poitiers where Charles Martel beat the Muslims except France is now Muslim so forget that one.

    2) The Norman Conquest of England except the Normans weren’t French – – they were Vikings.

    Someone help me.
