Church Bombing in Tanzania

It’s difficult to determine the motive behind this horrific incident in Tanzania, but my guess is that those Saudis were responding to Tanzania’s occupation of holy Muslim territory and its military actions against Muslim countries.

Tanzania also has a history of brutality and insensitivity from its long colonization of the Arabian Peninsula. It may be that a century of Tanzanian imperialism has combined with Arab poverty and hopelessness to provoke such desperate behavior.

One thing is for certain, however: the incident had nothing to do with Islam.

From The Telegraph:

‘Saudis Arrested’ Over Tanzania Church Bombing

Four Saudi Arabian nationals have been arrested in connection with a bomb attack on a Tanzanian church that the country’s president has called “an act of terror”.

The Vatican’s ambassador to Tanzania was at the Roman Catholic church in Arusha, which had just been built and was holding its first mass, when the bomb went off.

He was unharmed, but two people died and 30 were injured in the first significant such raid on Tanzania’s Christian community at worship.

Magesa Mulongo, the Arusha regional commissioner, said on Monday that six people had been arrested, two Tanzanians and four Saudis.

“Investigations are ongoing,” Mr Mulongo told the French news agency AFP in Arusha town, a popular tourist destination for visitors heading to the Serengeti or Ngorongoro wildlife areas, or planning to climb Mt Kilimanjaro.

There have been a series of violent incidents between Tanzania’s Christians and Muslims, who make up roughly equal proportions of the population of 48 million people.

  1. Are you being ironic? This bombing had everything to do with Islam. It’s not even a question nor does Tanzania have a “history of aggression” towards Muslims or Arabs. If anything Arabs are the aggressors trying to colonize Africa with Islam.

    • Yes, I was being ironic. Sorry; I should have included an “irony disclaimer” with it, or said, “Just kidding!”
