Austin ‘At the Brink of Disaster’ as Police Staffing Shortages Set City Back Over 15 Years: ‘Policies Epically Failed’

Austin, Texas residents are expressing outrage over police staffing shortages and longer 911-call response times in the aftermath of the city council’s vote to defund the department in 2020.

In February, a section of the city was notably left without a single police officer for a few hours on a Saturday due to the ongoing shortages.

Chicago ‘Mansion’ Tax to Fund Homeless Services Stuck in Legal Limbo While on the Ballot

CHICAGO (AP) — An unusual legal challenge may upend the future of a Chicago ballot measure that would hike a real estate tax on high-end property sales to fund services for homeless people.

Such citywide ballot measures are rare in the nation’s third-largest city, but other cities, including Los Angeles, have approved similar so-called “mansion taxes.”

A Cook County judge last month rejected the measure, but backers of the effort, called Bring Chicago Home, hope it will be overturned.

Early voting for the March 19 primary in Chicago has already started, so the measure remains on the ballot as it’s being settled in the courts.

Here’s a closer look at the ballot measure and the issues surrounding it.

Rocha who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia during the latter part of Clinton’s presidency, informed a federal judge on Thursday that he intends to plead guilty.

He confessed to a charge of conspiring to act as an agent of a foreign government, according to the Associated Press.

‘Life-Threatening’ California Blizzard Rages on as More Snow Expected in Sierra Nevada

A powerful blizzard that has dumped huge amounts of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains will continue to slam the region through Sunday, bringing more snow and damaging winds as a second “weaker” system is expected to bring additional snow Monday.

The dayslong storm that has caused treacherous white-out conditions due to its hefty wind gusts has shuttered national parks, ski resorts and parts of a major California interstate.

Up to 10 feet of snow was expected to slam high-elevation areas, creating a “life-threatening concern” for Lake Tahoe residents, National Weather Service meteorologist William Churchill said.

NYC Transit System Sees Massive Increase in Murder, Violence Since 2020

Data shows that more people have been killed on New York City’s subway transit system since the start of 2020 than in the 15 years prior.

This despite an increase in officer staffing and surveillance measures on the city’s transit system, which had been implemented in an attempt to deter criminal activity.

Squatters Take Over Georgia Man’s Home While He Was Caring for Sick Wife — and Now He Can’t Evict Them: Report

A Georgia man claims he returned home from caring for his sick wife to find that squatters had changed the locks on his home and moved in — and now local laws are blocking him from evicting the alleged freeloaders.

“Basically, these people came in Friday, broke into my house and had a U-Haul move all their stuff in. It’s frustrating. It’s very frustrating. I can’t even sleep,” DeKalb man Paul Callins told WSB-TV.

Callins had sunk thousands of dollars into the home and renovated with his own hands after he inherited it from his late father, but since squatters moved in he’s found himself facing nothing but obstacles to evict the alleged intruders.

Meanwhile, overwhelmed teachers at Brockton High School, 25 miles south of Boston, are turning a blind eye to the violence out of fear for their own safety after multiple staffers were brutally beaten while trying to stop fights.

“Out of boredom the kids are setting up fights between two individuals, and they’re setting up a location for them to fight, and everybody’s going to watch it,” said Jamal Gooding, a Brockton, Mass., activist who has been speaking with parents and students since the beleaguered school made headlines earlier in February.

They Called Him “Crooked Cohen”: Thacker

Authored by Paul Thacker via The Disinformation Chronicle

The COVID pandemic created some of the worst science writing in our lifetimes. Major media outlets failed at providing readers with accurate and balanced news across a host of issues, including vaccines, masks, lockdowns and how the virus likely began spreading through the human population.

It’s critical to call the news we read over the last four years “science writing” and not “reporting” because few science media outlets do any actual reporting. What science writers label “reporting’ is just calling up the known experts and then quoting them as the known experts.

As I’ve noted in the past: Science writers report for, not on science.

Looking back over the last four years of science writing claptrap, I ran across an early article by Science Magazine writer Jon Cohen that illustrates this point quite nicely. On January 31, 2020, Cohen wrote a story for Science Magazine alleging that “most researchers say” the virus could not have come from a lab, an idea Cohen added, had been dismissed as a “conspiracy theory.”

However, Cohen’s “most researchers say” assertion was totally phony. How do we know this?

We have the emails.

‘Very Bizarre’: Scientists Expose Major Problems With Climate Change Data

Authored by Alex Newman via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Temperature records used by climate scientists and governments to build models that then forecast dangerous manmade global warming repercussions have serious problems and even corruption in the data, multiple scientists who have published recent studies on the issue told The Epoch Times.

The Biden administration leans on its latest National Climate Assessment report as evidence that global warming is accelerating because of human activities. The document states that human emissions of “greenhouse gases” such as carbon dioxide are dangerously warming the Earth.

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) holds the same view, and its leaders are pushing major global policy changes in response.

But scientific experts from around the world in a variety of fields are pushing back. In peer-reviewed studies, they cite a wide range of flaws with the global temperature data used to reach the dire conclusions; they say it’s time to reexamine the whole narrative.

Problems with temperature data include a lack of geographically and historically representative data, contamination of the records by heat from urban areas, and corruption of the data introduced by a process known as “homogenization.”

The College of Psychologists of Ontario argued for nearly two years that Dr. Peterson made ‘inappropriate’ public statements on social media, even though they did not relate to the practice of psychology. Those statements related to his opinion on politics, public figures, the Freedom Convoy and ‘climate change.’

During that time, Dr. Benoit was simply asking government officials for the data behind the authorization of the novel COVID-19 injections for children, and sharing his concerns over whether the risk really outweighed the theorized benefit.

Dr. Benoit is walking away from the investigation mostly scot free, unlike many Ontario physicians who retired early, left the province, or had their licenses revoked by the CPSO throughout the COVID hysteria.

Poilievre Claims Trudeau ‘Covered Up’ Lab Leaks, Won 2021 Election With China’s Help

In July 2019, two infectious disease researchers, Xiangguo Qiu and her husband, Keding Cheng, lost their security clearances at the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg after they leaked confidential information to China. The husband and wife collaborated with Chinese military researchers on experiments with Ebola, Lassa fever and Rift Valley fever.

Russia’s ‘Grey Zone’ Tactics in Finland’s Snowy Forests

Another crisis involving an influx of migrants is building up on Europe’s border, said Christiane Kühl on Merkur.de (Munich). But this one isn’t in the Mediterranean: it’s occurring along the frozen stretches of the 832-mile frontier between Finland and Russia.

From August to December last year, more than 1,300 refugees from nations such as Yemen, Somalia and Syria crossed into Finland (before that it had been an average of just one a day); thousands more are expected when spring arrives. It’s all part of Russia’s plan to destabilise its neighbour. The tensions between the two countries have a long history, but in April last year they escalated dramatically when Finland joined Nato, and have risen ever since. Using migrants as a weapon is a classic case of Russia using “grey-zone tactics” against a Nato state — a ruse somewhere between political pressure and physical aggression.

In a recent speech, Abu Hamza, the spokesman for PIJ’s Al-Quds Brigades, said he wants Arab countries in the region and pro-Iranian groups to continue to “unify” various arenas and fronts against Israel.

This is the latest indication that terrorist groups plan to seek an escalation in hostilities over the next month. Hamza’s remarks were published by Beirut-based Al Mayadeen news channel, which is pro-Iranian and frequently highlights Hamas and Hezbollah attacks…

The terrorist group’s comments are also linked to those made by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who has called for an escalation of hostilities during Ramadan.

Harris Calls for Immediate Cease-Fire ‘For at Least the Next Six Weeks’ in Gaza

Vice President Kamala Harris called for an “immediate cease-fire” in the Israel-Hamas war Sunday, doubling down on pressure from the Biden administration as negotiations continue for a six-week pause in fighting.

“Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate cease-fire at least for the next six weeks, which is currently on the table,” she said in the Selma, Ala., speech.

President Biden has urged the Israeli government to agree to a six-week cease-fire for weeks, amid tense negotiations with Hamas.

The World Prepares to Recognize a Hamas Palestinian State

A “Palestinian” state will be a state of the terrorists, by the terrorists and for the terrorists.

Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the PLO’s Palestinian Authority and the other Islamic terrorist groups who make up the official “Palestinian” leadership have been invited for unity talks in Moscow.

The terrorist unity talks scheduled by the Putin regime are a homecoming for a “Palestinian” movement invented by Soviet propagandists. Mahmoud Abbas, the long-serving dictator of the PA, wrote his Holocaust denial thesis while studying at Moscow’s Patrice Lumumba University which had trained a generation of third world terrorists.

The invitation to Moscow comes from Putin’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov. Materials from a KGB defector revealed that Abbas had worked for the KGB under Bogdanov. Back then Abbas had the KGB codename “mole”, these days, his code name is “president”.

Some of the same ex-Soviet operatives who helped set up and fund the PLO, the PFLP and the rest of the “Palestinian” movement are now trying to unite them all under one single banner.

While the State Department in D.C. and British Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron are talking about immediately recognizing a “Palestinian” state as soon as they can force Israel to stop its campaign to destroy Hamas, the Palestinian Authority is trying to bring Hamas into the state.

India: Express View on Bengaluru Blast: Follow the Facts

Initial investigations into Friday’s blast at Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Café have revealed that an unidentified man kept a bag at the popular eatery minutes before the explosion. The police are scanning CCTV footage to pick up leads on the suspect who may have left behind an improvised explosive device in the bag.

Eight teams have been set up to crack the case and Karnataka’s Deputy CM, DK Shivakumar, has promised them a free hand and said that the incident “should not be politicised”. Restraint has, however, not always marked the responses of the state’s political outfits, especially those of Karnataka’s main opposition party, the BJP.

The party has rightly called out the government for the law-and-order failure. But some of its members have stepped outside the boundaries of legitimate criticism and appeared to let their prejudices do the loose talking. Senior BJP leader and former CM Basavaraj Bommai has said that “taking this incident lightly would be like encouraging terrorists”. He has linked the blast to pro-Pakistan slogans raised in the Karnataka Assembly last week and insinuated that a “sleeper cell” was behind it.

Finland gives green light for attacks on Russian cities

Published on 4 March 2024 in Fria Tider

After Estonia’s incoming commander-in-chief proposed that Ukraine be allowed to use Western weapons on Russian territory, the Finnish government now gives the green light for such use.

Finland has no restrictions on where weapons supplied to Ukraine can be used, according to statements from the Ministry of Defence and the chairman of the parliamentary defence policy committee, Yle reports.

Estonia’s incoming Supreme Commander Andrus Merilo previously criticised Western countries for restricting the use of weapons for defence operations on Ukrainian territory.

The restriction has been an attempt to avoid direct confrontation with Russia and is applied, among others, by the US, which does not want to be involved in such a war. Meanwhile, countries such as Sweden, Estonia and Finland have been assigned a more provocative role.

Like Sweden, Finland is part of the US combat planning for a regional war in the Baltic Sea region, as reported by Aftonbladet and others. In this context, Finland’s new statements are important.

Jukka Kopra (NCP), chair of the Finnish Parliament’s defence committee, stresses that Finland has not set any limits on how Ukraine can use the weapons contributed by Finnish taxpayers.

    – Ukraine has the right to use these weapons against military targets even on Russian soil,” he told Yle.

In the event of a Russian attack, Swedish politicians intend to send a brigade to counter the Russians in northern Finland and one to Latvia. A total of 10,000 Swedes will lose their lives initially, according to the Swedish Defence Forces.

    – This is a reasonable contribution for a country of our size, says Vice Admiral Jonas Haggren to Aftonbladet.

Finland has been a member of NATO since 5 July 2022.

Canada is now considering whether to pass a new bill that would turn it into the most authoritarian state in the western world. The “Online Harms Act” is billed as a social media law meant to protect Canadians from harmful content. But it includes some extremely draconian changes to “hate speech” laws that would allow anyone to anonymously charge someone with a hate speech crime — and if they’re successful, they could pocket $20k. Rebel News founder Ezra Levant joins Glenn to explain how this could turn into a massively corrupt industry that would make the Democrats’ persecution of Donald Trump look like child’s play. Plus, he explains how this bill, if passed, would destroy not just free speech, but the free press: “Soon there will be only two kinds of journalists in Canada: government journalists and BANNED journalists.”
