Gates of Vienna News Feed 5/5/2018

A woman named Brietta Brown went on a rampage with a knife on a Massachusetts bus, slashing two passengers before being subdued by the driver. After she was arrested she apologized, and prayed to Allah for forgiveness. After that she wouldn’t say anything more, but just kept praying. She is being held without bond pending a psychiatric examination to determine whether she is fit to stand trial.

In other stabbing news, a man stabbed three people in the Hague before being subdued by police. The alleged assailant is allegedly known to be mentally unbalanced. The authorities assured the Dutch public that the regrettable incident had nothing to do with terrorism.

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis Cuts Refugee Resettlement, Adoption Programs

The charity will instead focus on fighting homelessness and helping at-risk kids

Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis is dropping its refugee resettlement and adoption programs and diving deeper into its other work, especially programs combating homelessness and helping at-risk children.

CEO Tim Marx unveiled the 150-year-old charity’s new priorities this week. The dramatic pivot comes as Catholic Charities saw the number of people served through its adoption and refugee resettlement programs dwindle. At the same time, he said, they’ve seen demand for other services increase.

“If we don’t adapt to the changing world, like any organization, we are going to be left behind,” Marx said.

“This community needs Catholic Charities. That places a special responsibility on us to keep up to date, to keep moving and respond to new needs.”

A big part of that new work will focus on Catholic Charities’ St. Joseph’s Home for Children, which is often the first stops for at-risk kids removed from their homes by police and social workers. The charity has a long-standing contract with Hennepin County to provide emergency shelter for kids and Marx said it is time to refresh those programs to help the 1,100 kids in their care each year. The nonprofit would also like to upgrade the century-old St. Joseph’s facilities that originally operated as an orphanage.

[For new readers of RRS: not said here, but Catholic Charities/USCCB relies on a refugee per head payment from the US Treasury to place refugees (in case you are wondering why they need to drop the program) and that funding is drying up.]…

Chicago: Imam Calls on Women to Not be Led Astray by Western Notions of Equality

In a Friday sermon delivered at the Dar Al-Hijrah Mosque in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Ashraf Nusairat said that the notion that women do not have rights in Islam was introduced into Islamic countries by Western colonialism. According to Dr. Nusairat, the issue of women’s freedom, equality, and rights is foreign to Islam and was planted by the Western colonialists, who now use it against Islam. “I call upon our Muslim women to return to the religion of Allah, and to understand the Islamic faith correctly. They must not be led astray by the Western notions of equality,” said Dr. Nusairat in his March 16 sermon, which was posted on the Dar Al-Hijrah YouTube channel. Dr. Ashraf Nusairat is the director of Noon Arabic Academy in Hanover Park, Illinois.

Comey Adviser Lisa Page Resigns From FBI

Jesse Byrnes reports in The Hill that Lisa Page, who notoriously exchanged anti-Trump emails with fellow FBI employee, now-demoted counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok, has resigned from the bureau.

Two key advisers to former FBI Director James Comey are leaving the bureau.

James Baker, who served as the FBI’s top lawyer before being reassigned in December under the agency’s current director Christopher Wray, resigned on Friday, The New York Times reports.

Lisa Page, another FBI official who served as an adviser to Comey and his deputy at the bureau, Andrew McCabe, on various legal issues, is also resigning, the Times reported…

Page, meanwhile, has been the focus of GOP ire in recent months after text messages emerged between herself and another FBI official in which they criticized Trump and other political figures.

David Hogg: NRA is ‘Scared’ Because of the Support We’ve Gotten

Hogg said, “I think the people in this situation that are really scared would be the NRA. This is the first time they had the president and vice president at the same time come out to the annual convention for the NRA. What we are seeing here is they are worried because of the support we’ve been getting and the support we’ll have in mid-terms. Like it or not, we don’t care if you are a Democrat or a Republican, if you are supported by the NRA, you don’t stand with kids, you stand with the gun manufacturers and people making money off this fear and tragedy that’s perpetrating itself.”

How Big Government Backed Bad Science and Made Americans Fat

“We have made our policy based upon this weak kind of science called epidemiology which shows association, but not causation,” Teicholz explains. “We have the situation where we just cannot reverse out of these policies that were originally based on really weak science.”

Keys’ flawed research is one reason Americans have been getting fatter and unhealthier for decades. Despite major advances in treatment, heart disease is still the leading cause of death for men and women.

“The really dominant view is that the dietary guidelines are good… and the reason America is fat and sick is that America has failed to follow them,” Teicholz says. “That’s when you start looking at the data… By every food category you can find, we have faithfully, dutifully followed the guidelines.”

Today the science behind Keys’ dietary findings is once again being challenged. Teicholz has launched the Nutrition Coalition, which aims to inform food policy with rigorous science.

“Our goal is educate people about how the dietary guidelines have not been successful… and to bring this alternative policy viewpoint to policy makers,” says Teicholz. “More and more experts are willing to talk out about the science, and I think that will support change.”

Teen on Trial for Killing 3-Year-Old Grins in Court, Causing Near Riot With Tot’s Family

A Georgia teenager on trial for killing a three-year-old boy caused a near riot in court when he was caught smiling by the victim’s family.

Christopher Cullins, 15, is on trial for the April 1 death of little T’Rhigi Craig, and during the May 4 bond hearing the suspect was seen smiling to himself. The smirk was seen by Roshanda Craig, the murdered child’s mother, who erupted yelling, “What’s funny” as she rushed toward the jumpsuit-clad suspect, CBS 46 reported.

Other members of the family also began jostling and yelling as court officers restrained the woman. Several members of the toddler’s family had to be removed from the courtroom.

The “Dark Arts” of Artificial Intelligence (Or Can Machines Really Think?)

Authored by Alasdair Macleod via GoldMoney.com,

Artificial intelligence (AI) is seen as both a boon and a threat. It uses our personal data to influence our lives without us realising it. It is used by social media to draw our attention to things we are interested in buying, and by our tablets and computers to predict what we want to type (good). It facilitates targeting of voters to influence elections (bad, particularly if your side loses).

Perhaps the truth or otherwise of allegations such as electoral interference should be regarded in the light of the interests of their promoters. Politicians are always ready to accuse an opponent of being unscrupulous in his methods, including the use of AI to promote fake news, or influencing targeted voters in other ways. A cynic might argue that the political class wishes to retain control over propaganda by manipulating the traditional media he understands and is frightened AI will introduce black arts to his disadvantage. Whatever the influences behind the debate, there is no doubt that AI is propelling us into a new world, and we must learn to embrace it whether we like it or not.

Woman Charged in Slashing Attack

HADLEY — After the woman charged with slashing two passengers and the driver of a Pioneer Valley Transit Authority bus was handcuffed and read her rights, she apologized.

“I’m so sorry, I don’t know what came over me,” Brietta Brown said, according to the arrest report. “Please apologize to them for me, will they survive? I hope Allah will forgive me.”

The arrest report, written by Hadley Police Officer Thomas Chabot, also describes surveillance video from the bus, which was heading east on Route 9 when the attack occurred.

The video shows Brown sitting calmly after boarding the bus. She was seated on the passenger side of the bus behind the victims, who were sitting together. “At no point in time was there any interaction between them prior to the attack,” Chabot wrote.

Brown could be seen on the footage removing the knife from her pocket and unsheathing it. She then grabbed a female “her by the head … and made a left to right slice to the victim’s neck.”

She then attacked the male after he stood up reacting to the assault. She “made multiple slashing motions” and cut him at least once, according to Chabot’s report.

Witnesses told police “with some variance that Brown looked like she was about to say hi to the two indented victims when she grabbed each by the head and sliced at there (sic) throats.”

Police said passengers and the bus driver intervened and subdued Brown.

“In the scuffle as she was being subdued she also cut the bus drivers (sic) hand with the knife as he attempted to control her,” Chabot wrote.

The driver suffered chest pains following the incident. He and the other victims were taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton.

Afterward, while Brown was in Chabot’s cruiser, “she began praying to ALLAH, (and) after arriving at the station she continued to pray and would not break her concentration to speak with any officers.”

Brown would not speak to police during the booking process or “acknowledge our presence and would not answer any of our questions, and would not stop praying.” Officers placed her in a cell until she would comply.

Her behavior became more erratic, Chabot wrote. “She began to drink toilet water, and asked multiple officers to shoot her in the head and referred to herself in the third person.”

Officers ultimately called the Amherst Fire Department to take her to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for a mental health evaluation.

Daily Mail: Karl Marx Bears Responsibility for Crimes of His Followers, ‘Bloodshed at the Heart of His Philosophy’

(DAILY MAIL) — Two hundred years ago today, the most controversial thinker of the modern age was born in the German city of Trier.

When, on May 5, 1818, Heinrich and Henriette Marx welcomed their little boy into the world, they could never have imagined the utopian hopes and blood-soaked horrors that would become associated with his name.

Two centuries later, the very words ‘Karl Marx’ still carry an unmistakable charge. No modern intellectual, no economist or philosopher can match the combustible power of the rabbi’s grandson who fled into poverty-stricken exile in leafy North London.

Palestinian Youths Set Gaza’s Own Gas Line on Fire at Weekly Fence Protests

Dozens of Palestinians broke into the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom border crossing between Israel and the Hamas-run Strip on Friday evening, setting fire to the gas pipeline that supplies fuel to the Strip, the army said.

The Gazans, who did not break through to the Israeli side of the border, trashed their own supply infrastructure, Israeli military officials said.

The incident came amid the protests along the Gaza border, the sixth week of demonstrations, as part of the “March of Return.” At least 431 Palestinians were injured, Gaza officials said, as some 7,000 took part in the demonstrations, flew dozens of kites with petrol bombs into Israel, hurled stones at soldiers and tried to breach the border fence.

The IDF shared video of the Kerem Shalom incident, during which Palestinians broke into the Palestinian side of the crossing and damaged pipelines carrying gas and oil into Gaza, which already suffers from a large energy shortage.

“This is a cynical act that harms the welfare of Gaza residents and the humanitarian efforts carried out by Israel and many other countries,” the army said.

Army Green Berets Reportedly Helped Destroy Missile Threats on Saudi Border

Late last year, a team of Army Green Berets reportedly arrived in Saudi Arabia to help locate and destroy caches of ballistic missiles and launch sites along the country’s border with Yemen.

Knowledge of the operations was provided by U.S. officials and European diplomats to The New York Times.

If true, the missions may contradict official statements from Pentagon officials saying U.S. military assistance to the Saudi-led war against Houthi rebels in Yemen is limited to aircraft refueling, logistics and intelligence sharing.

Few details are offered by the Times concerning the intricacies of the Green Beret team’s mission, but there is no indication U.S. forces crossed into Yemen. Still, ground forces appearing in the border region does look like an escalation in the conflict.

The war in Yemen has been ongoing since 2014. Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, originally aligned with the ousted — and now deceased — former President Ali Abdullah Saleh are combating a Saudi-led coalition backing President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Other factions fighting for slices of Yemeni territory include al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the Islamic State.

Since 2015, U.S. military support to the Saudi-led coalition has remained in a non-combat capacity…

Tehran Terrified, Ex-Pentagon Official Says

The Iranian regime is “humiliated” after a daring Mossad operation seized scores of secret documents, the former Pentagon official said.

The Iranian regime is “quaking in its boots,” after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed secret nuclear-program documents appropriated by the Mossad, an ex-Pentagon Iran expert told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Harold Rhode spent 28 years at the Pentagon and studied in Iran before the 1979 revolution there. The fluent Farsi speaker, who is now associated with the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, said his view stems from a wave of recent Iranian infighting.

He said when things are not going well in Iran, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps officials and rival ayatollahs start attacking each other in a public blame game that expresses how exposed and vulnerable they feel their rule has become.

Rhode named senior Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi-Amoli from northern Iran who has been lashing out at rivals, saying their corruption was bringing down the regime.

Israel “humiliated the Iranian government by capturing all of this material,” Rhode said, and many Iranians were laughing at the Islamic regime on social media.

While the global media stopped covering protests against the regime months ago, he noted, the protests are still churning…

India Splutters in Anger After Toilet Water Used for Train Tea

KOLKATA: An Indian tea vendor caught on video taking water from a train toilet before selling his drinks to passengers has been fined amid heightened concern in India over food safety. The vendor on the Chennai-Hyderabad Express was caught after footage of him and two others coming out of a toilet with large cans used to serve tea and coffee on Indian trains was widely shared. Indian Railways said in a statement that the “incident has been inquired into in detail” and that the tea seller had been fined the equivalent of $1,500.

video was made on a train at Secunderabad in Telangana state. Out of the three vendors seen only one was licensed. The vendor claimed the group were transferring milk from one can to another and did not want to do it in the open. “The very fact that tea/coffee cans were seen being brought out of the toilet, is in itself a wrong practice,” the railway company said. A series of recent incidents have put the spotlight on food safety in India. In the eastern city of Kolkata, famed for its Bengal delicacies, police this week unearthed a racket in which tons of rotten meat from dumps was being sold to restaurants.

Sales of meat and poultry in the city have plummeted since authorities seized about 20 tons of rotten meat. Police suspect a lot more had been sent out to city restaurants. “The meat was sourced from dump yards where vultures, dogs fight over carcasses in the fringes of the city,” Koteshwar Rao, a senior West Bengal police officer said. Eight people have been arrested so far. But Kolkata restaurants and cafes have been left reeling from the scandal.

“The rumors have resulted in a 50 percent fall in demand (for meat) across restaurants and eateries,” Taher Ali, a member of the Meat Merchants Association said. The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India has told its members to only purchase meat from registered suppliers. According to government figures, food poisoning is one of the most common disease outbreaks in India, accounting for 242 of 1,469 reported serious outbreaks last year.—AFP

China’s Xi Praises Marxism as the Tool for China to ‘Win the Future’

Chinese President Xi Jinping celebrated the birthday of Marxism by paying tribute to Karl Marx as “the greatest thinker of modern times” in a speech today seen as part of an effort so solidify his power against domestic critics. He hardly needs to do so. He is basically dictator for life now in China and rules with an iron fist. Between control of the military, social media and the implementation of things such as social credit scores, Xi is clamping down on China big time. He is implementing communism in all its brutish infamy.

Xi’s address at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing was one of a series of events in China marking the bicentennial of Marx’s birth in 1818 in Germany. May 1st marked communist May Day in China and was celebrated across the nation. For those thinking that China is not truly communist and some odd mixture of Marxism and capitalism, let me disabuse you of that fallacy. It is communism and Xi wields all the power of Mao. And he’s just as brutal…

Xi controls the Communist Party in China now and his detractors who are unhappy with him eliminating term limits are likely to find out the hard way that he is an emperor for all intents and purposes and his enemies are truly expendable. Xi is also general secretary of the ruling Communist Party, an official that is also not term-limited.

11 Farm Attacks in 100 Hours , South Africa Descending Into Chaos

In this video by Willem Petzer the crisis pertaining to farm murders and farm attacks is looked at. With a country that has about 30 000 farmers there were eleven farm attacks and three farm murders. Do the maths. And this highlights the astonishing claim by the DA overseas condemning those who protest against farm murders. The chaos raining in South Africa is a fact as was seen in the recent looting, burning, destruction and chaos during the riots in the North West province. The video brings to light the situation as it is and no denying by the ANC government can change this. Details of a recent attack and murder are revealed in a heartbreaking look into what transpired that fateful night.

Willem highlights stories of these recent farm attacks and call on people to help share this violence against whites in South Africa. Whilst there is serious chaos crime across the country there is not an equivalent amount of mainstream media news coverage.

When Money Dies: In Venezuela, A Haircut Costs 5 Bananas and 2 Eggs

For Venezuela’s economy, the ascent into socialist paradise did not turn out quite as planned: in fact, under the Maduro regime, the country with the world’s biggest petroleum reserves somehow reversed course, and crashed through every single circle of economic hell, and now that its hyperinflation has hit levels that would make even Mugabe and Rudy von Havenstein blush, all that’s left is barter.

And, as Fabiola Zerpa explains as part of Bloomberg’s fascinating “Life in Caracas” series, i.e., watching economic and social collapse in real-time, in Venezuela, a haircut now costs 5 bananas and 2 eggs.

Anti-Migrant Protesters on Greek Island Lesbos Try to Overturn Police Buses (Photo, Video)

Greek police fired tear gas to disperse protesters, on the island of Lesbos, who tried to overturn officers’ buses during a demonstration against a mounting immigration crisis amid PM Alexis Tsipras’s visit to the island.

Protests flared on Thursday night, after Tsipras arrived to speak at a conference. A group of 2,500 demonstrators flocked to the streets of the island’s main town, Mytilene, to demand an immediate solution to the immigration crisis and the evacuation of migrants from the island’s refugee camp that currently hosts about 9,000 asylum seekers.

The protestors made their way to the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy, where Tsipras was giving his conference speech. Protestors rocked buses but they were blocked by police that formed a cordon and launched tear gas to disperse them.

Integrating Islam or Islamizing Integration?

It is becoming increasingly evident that immigrants from Muslim countries do not spontaneously integrate. On the contrary, there has been a controlled Islamization of integration, rather than the other way around.

The fear among Czechs is that such a trend will lead, within a few decades, to a dangerous demographic shift and ultimate theocratic totality in Europe as in the Middle East.

The government of Singapore controls the interpretation of Islam and Muslim finances, to prevent them from being used for violence and jihad.

More Than 56 Per Cent of Crimes in German Town Are Committed by Asylum Seekers

Regional police statistics show that 56.9 per cent of crime in the German town Sigmaringen was committed by asylum seekers last year. The figures reflect ‘real crimes’ as offences of breaking migration laws were excluded, newspaper Schwäbische reports.

Crime, especially drug-related crimes (+69.6%) and shoplifting (+44.8%), has risen sharply due to migrant criminality. But other more serious crimes increased significantly, as well, such as street crimes (+33.5%), assault (+39.5%) and sexual offences (+14.7%).

Therefore the region’s Ministry of the Interior has now developed a security plan for Sigmaringen, a special group of investigators. The group recently arrested 21 multiple offenders among the asylum seekers.

A Leftist Core Belief: Denying Evil

The result of leftists’ denial of criminals being evil is that leftists support policies that hurt law-abiding citizens.

A fundamental problem with leftists is their refusal to believe that some people embrace evil.

The leftist idea that anyone who isn’t directly opposing the left can’t be evil, only misguided, underlies many key leftist policies.

Take gun control. It’s premised on the idea that people don’t kill people; guns do. But we know that removing guns does not stop evil men from murder; contrary to the leftist’s deeply held belief, Cain didn’t murder Abel with an assault rifle. After all, if some men weren’t evil, why would Great Britain now be starting to control knives?

Because leftists reject the idea that there are evil men, they refuse to admit that the best way to stop an evil man with a gun is a good man with a gun. In the leftist’s universe, all men become equally bad once you put a gun in their hands. Because leftism is a faith-based but God-rejecting belief system, it doesn’t matter to leftists that gun control has been tried and has failed. Facts will not stand in the way of leftists’ emotional belief.

Christians’ Munich Moment in California

Scarcely any moment in American history is as important for America’s Christians as the developing crises over religious freedom now happening in California.

The legislature of Sacramento not only is underhandedly banning books opposed to the doctrines of the transgender religion (including the Bible), but also has threatened Christians’ rights to free assembly and freedom of speech.

According to its website, Summit Ministries, an organization devoted to advising Christian youths on how to live out a Christian worldview, has canceled its scheduled appearances at Biola University in Los Angeles “due to concerns that California will forbid some of what it teaches.”

Summit’s concern is real.

The fact is that California is about to make into law A.B. 2943, a bill recently passed by the state Assembly and probably soon to be ratified by the state Senate. The proposed law seeks to punish by fines and penalties any goods and services and services “offering to engage in or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual,” claiming that such efforts constitute deceptive business practices.

Summit’s president, Jeff Myers, explains the dangers for Christians:…

  1. In other stabbing news:…

Why do I have the unnerving feeling that this may become a new sidebar?

    • We demand a knife ban! But to be on the safe side, let’s ban spoons and forks too…

      • I may giving my age away here but I can remember the days
When the only thing loonies carried on the buses were a
        Bananas!

      • But to be on the safe side, let’s ban spoons and forks

Better add sporks to that list … just to exercise caution.

  2. It’s puzzling why the Brits gave their country away. Londonistan’s Bridge is falling down.

  3. The Chinese stance on Marxism is completely misunderstood. Inside China they do whatever they have to do in order to progress. Their Marxism is for export. It is the topmost perfect ideology to bring down the West. It is working. Why change?

All the examples of “justice” siding with the invaders are daily proof of White genocide in Europe and USA. Nobody cares to help South African Whites. Why not take them in as refugees?

    • I have a feeling that Marx was deliberately evil. What happened is what he expected to happen. Also, please notice that in human history there has happened 0 proletarian revolutions. The Russian revolution was not proletarian, rather a military putsch. Sweet justice that later on Trotsky massacred the sailors of the Aurora ship. Sweet justice that Trotsky ended poorly himself. Russian revolution was very much akin to French revolution.

      • Indeed. That Chinese central government built millions of apartments for its citizens. Too bad they built them in places no one will live.

Ah, the wonders of central planning. Combined with corruption they make for fascinating stories.

        • That is tiny side effect. Otherwise the Chinese are efficient and intelligent. They are winning, we are whining.

    • Or has the Chinese Communist Party finally realized that people are basically selfish and self centred? So allow them to follow their inclinations to heap up wealth for themselves (for which the Chinese are particularly skilled) and let the CCP maintain the monopoly on politics and security and you have a recipe for preserving and prospering the people while holding onto power. While the Chinese people love money over freedom everything will be sweet. But there are some warning signs in the areas that have tasted political freedom, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The CCP model may not last for ever.

  4. “The result of leftists’ denial of criminals being evil is that leftists support policies that hurt law-abiding citizens.”

“Because leftists reject the idea that there are evil men, they refuse to admit that the best way to stop an evil man with a gun is a good man with a gun. In the leftist’s universe, all men become equally bad once you put a gun in their hands.”

It’s not simply a case of men becoming equally bad once you put a gun in their hands. The denying of criminals being evil is the natural outcome of the “leftist fact” that the only reason people commit crimes is because of the inherent unfairness in society as it is now. Only once their defined “Utopia” is fully implemented will criminal acts cease, because everyone will be by definition, “equal,” most obviously from a financial standpoint.

Aside from the “Wise Leaders” of course…

  5. Isn’t every follower of islam “mentally unbalanced”? It shouldn’t be an excuse to mass murder.

    • I bet they are training to shoot on Germans. They will take sides: they will side with the barbarians.
