Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/22/2018

Hussein Khavari, the Afghan “refugee” who raped and murdered Maria L. in Freiburg back in 2016, has been sentenced by a German court to life in prison. Maria was 19 years old when he killed her. Mr. Khavari’s age has been variously listed as 17, 19, 25, and 34. His official age was 17 for at least three years. I don’t know how long “life” means in German jurisprudence, but the killer will be somewhat older than 17 when he finally gets out of prison.

In other news, in the recent local Dutch elections, the Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV) won seats in thirty municipalities.

Austin Bomber Describes Bombs He Constructed in Recorded Confession on His Phone

AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The deceased bombing suspect Mark Conditt left behind a 25 minute recording on his phone describing the seven bombs he constructed, Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said Wednesday evening.

Chief Manley said Conditt did not mention terrorism or hate, but described the recording as an “outcry of a very challenged young man… I know everybody is interested in a motive and understanding why. And we’re never going to be able to put a (rationale) behind these acts,” Chief Manley said.

The chief said Conditt talked about problems in his personal life in a what Chief Manley called a video confession found on his phone after his death.

Austin Police say Mark Conditt died overnight after he set off an explosive device inside of his vehicle in a suburban Austin hotel parking lot as SWAT teams closed in.

Manley said Conditt described six devices that law enforcement recovered.

He also talked about the seventh device that he used to blow himself up on Wednesday morning…

Media Falsely Portraying Pompeo as an Anti-Muslim Bigot

The Washington Post. The Forward. Peter Beinart in The Atlantic. All of them are giving the same message: Trump’s pick for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is, in the words of Jane Eisner, “an anti-Muslim bigot.”

Actual evidence is scarce. The major smoking gun that the critics point to is that Pompeo is “associated” with Frank Gaffney and Brigitte Gabriel, in the sense that he has spoken on Gaffney’s radio show and at conferences that they also spoke at. Then the articles go on and describes how awful Gaffney and Gabriel supposedly are, which is an easier task than saying Pompeo is a bigot.

Because he isn’t.

The same amount of effort to uncover Pompeo’s supposed bigotry clearly bypassed any contrary evidence. Like this 2015 article in the Wichita Eagle:…

Steve Bannon Says He Had “No Idea” Cambridge Analytica Was Using Facebook Data

In his first public remarks since the scandal broke, former White House Chief Strategist (and Cambridge Analytica employee-client) Steve Bannon laid bare the hypocrisy inherent in the response to the scandal by the media, regulators and lawmakers in both the UK and US.

To wit, Bannon argued that mining and repackaging data is a core component of Facebook’s business model — and when they offered unfettered access to their data arsenal to the Obama campaign in 2008 and 2012, nobody batted an eye.

So what then is the reason for the outraged response to the revelations about Cambridge Analytica? It simply comes down to the fact that the establishment and deep state still haven’t come to terms with the fact that Trump defeated Hillary Clinton — the “most qualified” candidate in US history — simply by running a better campaign, and by connecting with American voters on a visceral level.

White House Soap Operas Distract From Real Global Dangers

In the liberty movement, we often refer to the historical tactic of the Roman “bread and circuses” when describing the deliberate mass distraction of the public of today. In the era when Roman emperors supplanted the senate and dominated political and social life, it was deemed advantageous to create various forms of “entertainment,” often violent, in order to keep the citizenry preoccupied and thus less likely to physically act against the power structure as the empire suffered economic decline. The use of bread and circuses continues into our era, but the method has been refined and the manipulations have become in some ways more subtle.

40% of Italian Workers So Stressed That They Want a New Job

Many say employer doesn’t care about their wellbeing

(ANSA) — Rome, March 22 — Some 40% of Italian workers say that they are so stressed by their job that they would like a new one.

The figure is the highest in Europe, according to the WorkForce Europe 2018 survey conducted by ADP on over 10,000 workers on the continent including 1,300 employees in Italy. Some 16% of Italian employees think that their company does not care in the least about their psychological and physical wellbeing. The percentage increases with the age of the employee: only 11% of workers between 25 and 34 said this, but the number rose to 21% for those over age 55. “The problems linked to stress and mental health are one of the main causes of employee absences and staff turnover,” said Virginia Magliulo, general manager of the Italian branch of ADP.

“This means that supporting employees is not only the right thing to do, it is also a useful investment.” While 44.8% of those between 25 and 34 would like to leave their current positions for less stressful jobs, this percentage falls to 25% for those over 55. Some 16% of Italians between 45 and 54 say they feel stressed everyday (13% of the total — 11.7% of men and 14.5% of women).

The region with the highest level of the “super-stressed” is Basilicata (40%), followed by Val d’Aosta (25%) and Piedmont (20.4%). the most highly affected sectors are financial services (19.5%), retail sales, catering and recreational activities (19.3%) and trade, media and marketing (15.8%).

The highest percentage from among those who never feel stressed (14%) is in the age group over 55, with 30%. At the regional level, the most relaxed are those living in Abruzzo (22.7%), followed by those in Molise and Trentino (both 20%).

Anti-Islam PVV Wins City Council Seats in 30 Municipalities

Geert Wilders and his PVV won city council seats seats in each one of the 30 municipalities the party participated in during the municipal elections on Wednesday. In total the PVV currently stands on 74 seats, the Volkskrant reports.

During the previous municipal elections four years ago, the PVV only participated in two municipalities — Almere and The Hague. The party got fewer seats in those two municipalities this time around. In Almere the party dropped from nine to seven seats, and in The Hague from seven to two seats.

In Nissewaard, which covers Spijkenisse and its surroundings, the party won five seats. Relatively, the PVV got the most votes in Rucphen — 20.3 percent — giving it four seats. The PVV also won four seats in Terneuzen and in Venlo, and two in Rotterdam. The party is now also in the city councils of cities like Zaanstad, Enschede, Zoetermeer, Arnhem, Maastricht and Den Bosch.

Not all the votes are counted yet, so the PVV may get a few more seats. In Utrecht the party stands on one so far, and in Stichtse Vecht on two.

“Fantastic!” Wilders wrote on Twitter. “Great results in Nissewaard, Venlo, Terneuzen, Rucphen, Maastricht, Zaanstad, Emmen, Almelo, Lelystad, Dordrecht and many other municipalities where the PVV sound will be heard from now on! The PVV is growing!!”

Italy: TIM’s Vivendi Execs Quit, New Board in May

Inc. Chairman Arnaud de Pouyfontaine

(ANSA) — Milan, April 22 — TIM directors representing majority shareholder Vivendi tendered their resignations Thursday, effective April 24, the date of the AGM. The board will be renewed on May 4, TIM said in a statement. The resignations included that of Chairman Arnaud de Pouyfontaine, who said “as chairman of TIM and in the interest of all the shareholders, I wan to free the board of the climate of uncertainty that has been created and which distracts attention from what is our priority, that is the rapid realisation of the DigiTim strategic plan”.

He went on: “I confirm my commitment to the plan to transform TIM and I am convinced that this decision will give further stability and support to our CEO Amos Genish and his team, enabling us to create value for all our stakeholders”.

TIM’s American depositary receipts fell 4.3% in New York on the chairman’s resignation.

A week ago the Elliott fund asked the TIM board to revoke six directors including chairman de Puyfontaine, and the deputy executive president Giuseppe Recchi, replacing them with six of their own.

The other four directors Elliott International, Elliott Associates and The Liverpool Limited Partnership wanted replaced are Herve’ Philippe, Fre’de’ric Cre’pin, Fe’licite’ Herzog and Anna Jones.

Four of these directors are linked directly to shareholder Vivendi while two are independents but still elected in the majority partner’s list.

Elliott and the other two investors said they wanted them to be replaced by the following six: Fulvio Conti, Massimo Ferrari, Paola Giannotti De Ponti, Luigi Gubitosi, Dante Roscini and Rocco Sabelli.

TIM said it would add the issue to its agenda for a shareholders meeting on April 24.

Financial sources said Elliott’s problem was Vivendi and not CEO Amos Genish, who was not included among the execs it wants to replace.

They said the fund considered Genish a very competent TLC expert and his business plan well constructed, and it appreciated the way the management handled the day-to-day running of TIM.

The problems linked to Vivendi allegedly included conflicts of interest that allegedly spurred operations deemed disadvantageous for minority shareholders, the financial sources said.

US investor Elliott’s plan for TIM which envisages spinning off and floating the network “is a project that coincides with what we intend to do for the public interest,” Industry Minister Carlo Calenda said Wednesday.

“But I think that TIM, too, was oriented in this direction,” the minister added.

Italian ‘Blue Helmets’ In Lebanon Project for Disabled

Remodeled workshop at school in country’s south

BEIRUT- The Italian “blue helmets” of the UN’s Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have remodeled a carpentry workshop in a school for disabled students in the country’s south, thus bringing to completion a project in favor of vulnerable groups of the population.

The 8th Paratroopers Engineers Regiment completed the project, which also included the donation of tools, at the Ayta Ash Sha’ School for Children With Special Needs, as part of CIMIC (civil-military cooperation).

The workshop was remodeled in just three days, and is essential for the young disabled students at the school, who participated first-hand in the project.

The structure hosts activities such as physical and mental education, as well as vocational training for insertion into the job market.

The intervention was classified as a “quick impact project”, short-term projects that have a significant return on investment for the local population due to their quick turnaround time and the direct and immediate benefit the projects bring to users.

The project’s sustainability is ensured through the donation of materials as well as the organisation of a course for the workshop’s director to be conducted by a group of Italian carpenters.

In addition, some children have been chosen to continue maintenance work on the structure’s furnishings and tools, creating objects and games aimed at increasing their creativity as well as improving the environment within the workshop’s classrooms.

‘Pro-Erdogan Group Buys Opposition Media Companies’

Hurriyet and CNN Turk among those bought by Dogan Holding

ISTANBUL — The holding company of Turkish magnate Aydin Dogan has allegedly closed a 1.25-billion-dollar deal for the sale of some of the main opposition media outlets in Turkey — including Hurriyet and CNN Turk — to a group of businessmen with ties to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to independent website T24.

Media outlets in the sale are said to include the newspapers Hurriyet and Posta, two of the country’s best-selling dailies, as well as the popular sports newspaper Fanatik, and broadcasters CNN Turk and Kanal D.

Leading the pack of buyers is the holding company headed by Yildirim Demiroren, the former owner of the Besiktas football team and current president of the Turkish Football Federation.

In 2011, Demiroren took control of opposition dailies Milliyet and Vatan, both of which subsequently changed their editorial stance.

If confirmed, the news would be another strong concentration of media power in the hands of pro-Erdogan groups.

Meanwhile, news of the sale produced effects on the Istanbul stock exchange, where shares of Dogan Holding rose 17% and shares of publishing group Hurriyet Gazetecilik rose 19%.

Turkish Leader Claims Muslim Victory Over Europe, Cites Trump’s ‘Alliance’ With Jews as Obstacle — Breaking Israel News

A prominent Turkish official has claimed that as a result of demographic trends in Europe, “Europe will be Muslim.” An expert on Islam says this “Islamization” is intentional, a form of silent Jihad explicitly described in the Quran as a way of conquering nations demographically.

The Gatestone Institute , a think tank that publishes articles pertaining to Islam and the Middle Easton, published a report on Monday citing the official, Member of Parliament Alparslan Kavaklioglu of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and head of the parliament’s Security and Intelligence Commission. At a speech to the AKP Political Academy in Yalova two weeks ago, Kavaklioglu declared that there will be an Islamic victory over Europe.

“The fortune and wealth of the world is moving from the West to the East,” Kavaklioglu said. “Europe is going through a time that is out of the ordinary. Its population is declining and aging. It has a very old population. So, people coming from outside get the jobs there. But Europe has this problem. All of the newcomers are Muslim. From Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. Those who come from these places are Muslim.”

Kavaklioglu contended that Europe’s fate will inevitably be sealed within 20 years…

Once the 15 years are up, Khavari, who was handcuffed and wearing a black hooded jumper in court today, may be ordered to remain in ‘security detention’ if he is still deemed to pose a threat to society.

Looks like child sacrifice has returned to the post-Christian West. Only difference is the children are sacrificed to the god of political correctness instead of old Baal. I usually compare the EU to Rome, but even Rome did not practice child sacrifice, maybe the EU is more like Carthage

    • Pretty sure if this happened in Caesar’s day the offender would have been swiftly crucified along the Appian Way.

  3. Looks like I will be submitting to the news feed a story about a terrorist incident in France. Oh well.

  4. Hopefully he’ll remain locked up until such an age where even the little blue pills no longer will be of any help . Ooops , was that a racist remark ? Nah , probably just in Sweden …

  5. Re: “ICE Busts Up Illegal Cockfighting Ring…”

This took me back. In 1965-9, I lived with my parents in the village of Staveley, Westmorland (as it was then- now Cumbria) in NW England; we were on the Kentmere Road, which led only to Kentmere (unless perhaps you had a 4×4).

Once a month, there would be a small procession of vehicles heading up the valley; I was told they were going to the cockfighting, which was illegal, but the police didn’t interfere.

I’m tempted to suggest that even then, the cops were subject to pressure, though I wouldn’t compare the victims of this cruel sport to those of rape gangs.
