Frank Gaffney on NYC Terror Attack: ‘This is Going to Happen to More of us, Take it to the Bank’
Center for Security Policy President Frank Gaffney joined SiriusXM host Raheem Kassam on Wednesday’s Breitbart News Daily to talk about Tuesday’s terrorist attack in New York City.
Kassam commended Gaffney for saying in his own Secure Freedom Minute radio broadcast that it was “an attack not on New Yorkers, not on Americans, not on Westerners, but an attack on us.”

Kepler Data Reveals Existence of 20 Promising Exoplanets ‘Hiding in Plan Sight’
(Phys.org)—A large international team of researchers working with data sent back from NASA’s Kepler space telescope has found evidence of 20 previously unknown, promising exoplanets. In their paper uploaded to the arXiv preprint server, the team describes the exoplanets and highlights the ones that appear to be the most likely to fit into the Goldilocks category.
The researchers report that they used a tool called the Robovetter to sift through data from Kepler planetary sightings to winnow down the possibilities—the tool narrows down hits to those that are deemed candidates to support life. Many of the 20 exoplanets that were discovered had long orbits—one in particular, KOI-7923.01, was found to have an orbit of 395 days and was very close in size to Earth. The team found that it was also a little cooler than Earth due to its distance from its star relative to Earth’s orbit and the star being cooler. The team notes that their initial study suggested the planet is likely covered by a cold tundra, but that it is still not too cold to support life.

New York Mayor Bill De Blasio Calls for Extreme Vetting That is Devoid of Profiling
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that he backs extreme vetting of foreigners visiting the U.S. — as long is it doesn’t target people based on religion or nationality.
“We support vetting of individuals. We support very thorough vetting — not of groups of people just because they belong to a group. I think this is a very crucial distinction,” the Democrat mayor said at a press conference addressing the deadly terror attack in the city.
“There should be very, very careful vetting of anyone where there is an indication of concern, but not because of their religion or not because of their country of origin,” he said.
Mr. de Blasio did not say how authorities should screen visitors for possible ties to radical Islamic terrorism.

NYC Terrorist Followed ISIS Magazine Instructions Before Grisly Attack
Update 2:20 pm: The New York Daily News is reporting that Sayfullo Saipov followed instructions from an ISIS propaganda magazine “almost to the letter” in the runup to Tuesday’s attack. This appears to support investigators’ claims that the Halloween massacre has all the hallmarks of a lone-wolf operation, and that they haven’t found any evidence that he had direct links to a terror group.
The piece, published in ISIS’s Rumiyah magazine last year, was titled “Just Terror Tactics” and lays out in chilling detail how to use a truck to maximize casualties.

Pope Condemns ‘Murderous Folly’ Of Terrorism After Attacks

On Tuesday, an apparent Islamist terrorist rammed a truck into dozens of Americans on a bike path in New York City, killing eight and injuring over ten. He popped out of the truck shouting “Allahu Akhbar” before being captured by police.
Imagine that a white supremacist had driven a truck onto a bike path filled with minority innocents, killing eight of them. Imagine that the white supremacist had emerged from his truck carrying aloft a Confederate flag.
Imagine that the media had leapt to the defense of those flying the Confederate flag, explaining that only a tiny minority of those who did so had engaged in any sort of racist violence. Imagine that all of America’s major political leaders said the same, and told those who connected the terrorism with the Confederate flag that their viewpoints represented bigotry. Imagine, too, that CNN ran a chyron reading “WITNESSES: SUSPECT WAS CARRYING SOUTHERN VERSION OF AMERICAN FLAG,” and then hosted panels assuring audiences that the Confederate flag was simply a symbol of Southern pride.
Hard to imagine, isn’t it?…

Daydreaming is a Useful Mental Ability Says Greek Scientist
According to a new study by University of Cambridge researchers; led by Dr Emmanuel A Stamatakis, daydreams are the brain’s way of letting you get on with the job.
The scientists have found tantalising evidence that the so-called default mode network (DMN); a pattern of brain activity that appears when we are paying attention to nothing in particular, may carry out the vast majority of our cognitive work.
In research published October 23 in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, scientists at the University of Cambridge have shown that the DMN plays an important role in allowing us to switch to ‘autopilot’ once we are familiar with a task.
The DMN was discovered in 2001 by scientists at Washington University. Academics believe that it could be one of the keys to discerning consciousness in people in comas or vegetative states. It also appears to be crucial to maintaining a healthy mind. Many psychiatric conditions; including schizophrenia and dementia, are linked to its breakdown.

Germany: Police Arrest Syrian Teen Plotting ‘Serious Terror Attack’
German police have arrested a 19-year-old Syrian man in Schwerin on suspicion of plotting a massive bomb attack on behalf of terror group Islamic State.
The Syrian identified as Yamen A., who allegedly described himself as a “soldier of the caliphate”, was brought into custody Tuesday after a long period of surveillance by German authorities. He is alleged to have been preparing a bomb attack on an unknown target since late July of this year, according to the federal prosecutor’s office, Reuters reports.

Looted Greek Antiquities Allegedly on Sale at London Art Fair
[…] Cambridge-based forensic archaeologist Christos Tsirogiannis, an expert on locating stolen antiquities, identified two marble vases known as lekythoi offered for sale at the prestigious Frieze Masters art fair in Regent’s Park, London.
According to The Guardian report, the lekythoi were put on sale on behalf of the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt, which is seeking revenue it is owed after the liquidation of the assets of convicted illegal antiquities trafficker Gianfranco Becchina, a former resident.
The Basel-Stadt canton says it received permission to sell the items from the Italian police, who had sent back to Basel more than 1,000 pieces from the original seizure, stating they could not make a legal claim to ownership

Sweden: Charges Dropped Against Driver Accused of Showing Porn Film on School Bus
Police have dropped charges against a Swedish bus driver who was removed from his role following allegations of showing a ‘pornographic film’ to children on a school bus.

Photographs showed what appeared to be people lying on the pavement in front of the black cab.
Dozens of police, ambulance and fire vehicles attended the scene as shoppers fled from the area.
Ed Hoppitt , who witnessed the incident, wrote on Twitter: “Just came within meters of being hit by a vehicle that mounted the pavement and ploughed into people.
“People down under taxi.”
Paramedics were seen carrying two people on stretchers into ambulances.
A barrister at the Aubaune cafe said that they had been told the driver of a reported black cab had “lost control”.
He added that a number of people are believed to have been hit, adding that people ran from the scene “screaming and panicking”.
Scotland Yard said officers were called just after 5pm to reports of a taxi hitting pedestrians in Southampton Street.
There were initially fears the incident may have been a deliberate attack, but shortly police said it was not terror related…

In the aftermath of last week’s finale of the Communist Party of China’s (CCP) 19th congress, many commentators have opined that President Xi Jinping is now the country’s most powerful leader since Deng Xiaoping. This is incorrect. Xi is the most powerful leader since Mao Zedong at home, and arguably the most influential Chinese player on the world scene in history.
After five years at the nation’s helm, Xi has discarded the succession pattern which had been in place for almost three decades since Deng. He has not presented an heir-apparent to the delegates when reelected for his second term—in contradistinction to his two predecessors, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao, both of whom had accepted Deng’s principles of collective leadership and power rotation. Furthermore, the seven-man Politbureau’s Standing Committee—the supreme decision-making body—has five new members. Three of them are Xi’s close associates and loyalists; one is a former youth leader, and another comes from China’s economic powerhouse, Shanghai. None seem capable of developing an independent power base or acting independently from the Paramount Leader.
The composition of the new Standing Committee is usually a well guarded secret until the end of the Party congress, thus allowing for some last-minute horse-trading. This time the names of its new members were leaked days in advance, which means that Xi was confident that there would be no challenges to his primacy. The only member of the previous Standing Committee to stay on board (except for Xi himself) is Premier Li Keqiang, a weak figure whose position is entirely dependent on Xi’s good will. It is also significant that Xi’s thoughts have been formally included, under his name, in the CCP Charter. He has thus formally surpassed Deng’s contribution to the Charter, which was inserted without naming its author, and achieved formal parity with Mao. This gesture’s practical significance is that anyone opposing Xi will be potentially open to the accusation that he is “an enemy of the Party.”…

Failed Asylum Seeker Who Allegedly Killed Child in Germany Caught in Spain
Failed Pakistani asylum seeker Sohail A., who is suspected of killing his two-year-old daughter in Germany, was apprehended by police in the Spanish coastal city of San Sebastián.
The 33-year-old fled Hamburg last week before police arrived at his home where they found his two-year-old daughter dead with severe injuries to her neck last Monday. Authorities in Hamburg issued an international arrest warrant for the failed asylum seeker and he was found Sunday by Spanish police who arrested him and an unidentified companion, German magazine Focus reports.

My beloved’s daughter (aged around 40?) is in charge of “diversity” at a north London primary school. We don’t meet often, but when I get the chance, I’ll suggest that (with all due respect) it would be more useful to keep children whose first language isn’t English out of school until they’re reasonaby fluent, in their interests as well as those of the rest of the pupils.

This is purely anecdotal, but a couple of nights ago I was on a bus here in London; approaching my stop, I pressed the bell, but nothing happened. I turned round to look for another button, and a young black woman in a headscarf behind me had done so for me (she wasn’t getting off there). I smiled and nodded, and got a smile back.
