Gates of Vienna News Feed 10/5/2017

A Spanish MEP was thrown into a rage by the flying of Catalonian flags in the European Parliament. Meanwhile, among the other European regions that demand independence are: Flanders, the Basque region, Venice, Lombardy, Scotland, Northern Island, Wales, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man. And possibly Skåne.

OK, so I made that last one up. But still…

In other news, a Bulgarian man was arrested when 18 illegal migrants were found in the back of his truck at border crossing between Hungary and Austria.

Which American Cities Will File Bankruptcy Next?

We harp on the massive, unsustainable, yet largely unnoticed, debt burdens of American cities, counties and states fairly regularly because, well, it’s a frightening issue if you spend just a little time to understand the math and ultimate consequences. Here is some of our recent posts on the topic:

Luckily, for those looking to escape the trauma of being taxed into oblivion by their failing cities/counties/states, JP Morgan has provided a comprehensive guide on which municipalities haven’t the slightest hope of surviving their multi-decade debt binge and lavish public pension awards.

Communist West Point Grad Was Reported in 2015 for Anti-American Posts

Extremist political views and out-of-regulations online activity

The Army officer who outed himself as a radical Marxist had been reported back in 2015 for publishing inappropriate and outright anti-American views online, according to a scathing report obtained by The Daily Caller.

The report gave exhaustive and damning details on 2nd Lt. Spenser Rapone’s disqualifying insubordination at the U.S. Military Academy, extremist political views and out-of-regulations online activity. Still, the Academy’s administration saw fit to allow Rapone to graduate in 2016.

Rapone made the news last week for his pro-communism tweets during the #VetsForKaepernick social media craze.

West Point’s Public Affairs office quickly released a statement last week condemning Rapone’s actions, saying that they “in no way reflect the values of the U.S. Military Academy or the U.S. Army… Second Lieutenant Rapone’s chain of command is aware of his actions and is looking into the matter.”

[Comment: Why was this turd allowed to remain at West Point? He will now use all his training to advance his communist religion. ]

Court Documents: Wichita Doctor Stabbed More Than 160 Times

We now know more about what led up to the stabbing death of a Wichita psychiatrist and the man who is charged with killing him.

According to a probable cause affidavit released Thursday afternoon, Dr. Achutha Reddy was stabbed nearly 165 times, beaten and possibly run over on Sept. 19.

Court documents say, around 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 19, someone called 911 stating that “Omar Edutt” had stabbed Dr. Reddy and run out of the back of Holistic Psychiatric Services, which Dr. Reddy owned. The office is located in Carriage Parkway, near Central and Edgemoor.

At the scene, officers found Dr. Reddy on the ground outside his business. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An employee of Dr. Reddy told police that Umar Dutt had come into the office earlier in the day and was on his cell phone possibly texting. She said around 7:05 p.m., she heard Dr. Reddy calling out for help from his office. She ran into the office to find Dutt stabbing Dr. Reddy several times. She said she separated the two and Dr. Reddy ran out the back of the business and Dutt followed him.

Another therapist in the business said that around 5:45 p.m. she notified Dr. Reddy that Dutt was in the front lobby. She said Reddy indicated that he did not have a scheduled appointment with Dutt. The other therapist said around 5:55 p.m. she left the business and saw Dutt standing behind Dr. Reddy’s car. She said she did not have a conversation with Dutt, but did know that he was an ongoing patient of Dr. Reddy’s.

Court documents show detectives also talked to a security guard who found Dutt in the parking lot of the Wichita Country Club. Around 7:46 p.m., Larry Mazur reported seeing a gold Toyota Camry in the parking lot. He said he approached the vehicle to take down the license plate number because, having worked for the country club since 1984, he didn’t recognize the vehicle…

Hotel Guest in the Next Room Saw ‘Multiple Gunmen’ During Shooting

As the narrative quickly formed into one of a “lone wolf” old man who somehow managed to cart 23 rifles up to the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas casino hotel room without nary a photo or security image of him doing so, many balked. But one Australian man knows what he saw, and he saw “multiple gunmen.”

An Australian man who was staying in the room next to the shooter in the Mandalay Bay has confirmed he witnessed multiple gunmen involved in the Las Vegas attack. “There were multiple people dead and multiple shooters. I was just hiding waiting for police to come get us. I got outside safely and was hiding in bushes,” Brian Hodge told Australia’s Courier-Mail. Hodge, who was staying in room 32134, right next door to Stephen Paddock in room 32135, also provided important information when he revealed that a security guard was killed by police. “My floor is a crime scene. They killed a security guard on my floor.”

Witness Wendy Miller, also from Australia, said she too, saw a security guard being chased. She was staying at the Luxor Hotel (next to the Mandalay Bay) with her husband. But they had been at a bar in the Mandalay Bay when she saw what she described as a “man of interest” run by. “We managed to make our way back to our room…” she told The Courier-Mail. “We are in lockdown. Our door is deadlocked and a chair against the door.” Miller said she saw the man sprint through the hotel after coming off an escalator from the Mandalay Bay. “The man that they [security] were chasing was wearing a security jacket like them,” she said.

Many eyewitness reports that don’t match the carefully crafted narrative that is being regurgitated and that we are expected to believe are also being silenced.

Information is being heavily censored on YouTube. Why would police shoot or even chase a security guard? For likely the same reasons that YouTube keeps taking down video evidence of a shooter firing from the fourth floor, substantially and obviously lower than the 32nd floor. The narrative is falling apart…

Watch the video below while you can, as it’s hard to say how long it will be available.

Many reports and eyewitness accounts of people saying they saw more than one shooter are being removed from websites like YouTube. When censorship begins, we know there’s something out there that we aren’t supposed to see. We are supposed to believe the media and obey the government because of this tragedy. “Never let a crisis go to waste,” said Rahm Emmanuel, Barack Obama’s senior advisor.

Leftists Plan to Erect 45-Foot Statue of Naked Woman That Will Stare at White House…

Stand Next to Washington Monument For Several Months [VIDEO]

When did our Washington DC Mall become a staging area for feminist statements? Do families traveling to DC really need to see a statue of a naked woman standing next to the Washington Monument? Don’t we have a number of museums in DC that would be a more appropriate temporary home for a 45-foot statue of a naked woman?

The organizers of Catharsis on the Mall are planning to have a 45-foot-tall statue of a naked woman near the Washington Monument for several months.

The National Park Services confirmed to FOX 5 it received and was reviewing a public gathering permit application for Catharsis on the Mall which would include erecting a 45-foot tall statue of a naked woman.

Catalonia is Not Alone: Mapped — The Other European Regions Desperate for Independence

In the 2017 edition of its annual TransformingWorld Atlas, Bank of America Merrill Lynch illustrates the growing secessionist movement across the continent.

The report says: “Many areas in Europe have strong secessionist movements (e.g. Scotland, Catalonia, Basque, Flanders, Veneto) or have political parties agitating for greater ruling autonomy.”

The map highlights just how many areas want total independence — along with those seeking a bit more autonomy, but not a total split.

Those demanding separation — featured in bold on the map — include Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Cornwall in the UK.

German Actress, 61, Says Film Director Roman Polanski Raped Her When She Was a 15-Year-Old Child Model

Swiss police confirmed on Tuesday night they were investigating a new child rape allegation against Roman Polanski.

Renate Langer, a 61-year-old German woman, said she was attacked by the controversial film director in his home in Gstaad when she was a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

The February 1972 assault is the latest in a string of similar allegations made by a total of four different women against 84-year-old Mr Polanski, who is now married with two children…

Mr Polanski pleaded guilty in the USA in 1977 to having unlawful sex with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer but fled the country before be could be sentenced.

He now lives almost permanently in Paris with his family, as France does not have an extradition treaty with America.

Asked by the New York Times why she did not report the matter earlier, Ms Langer said: ‘My mother would have had a heart attack. I felt ashamed and embarrassed and lost and solo.’

Both of Ms Langer’s parents are now dead, and she said she felt the time was right to speak out.

Italy: TV Show Job-Scam Sting ‘Embarrassing’ — Boldrini

‘Shameful affair’ says House Speaker

(ANSA) — Rome, October 4 — A satirical TV show’s sting revealing that an undersecretary’s son was hired without having to work by a party colleague has shown “a disgraceful affair” and an “embarrassing case for everyone involved, House Speaker Laura Boldrini said Wednesday. “It is clear that what emerged from the Le Iene segment is unacceptable, shameful and embarrassing for all,” she said, although she indicated she could not take action because it was not the House’s responsibility to do so institutionally. Defence Undersecretary Domenico Rossi on Tuesday handed back his portfolio after the TV show showed an MP in his small centrist party, Mario Caruso, had formally hired his son as a favour but the young man doesn’t have to turn up to work. The show, Le Iene (Reservoir Dogs), which regularly performs stings on politicians, allegedly also showed that the son’s salary came out of his father’s pocket.

Rossi called the show’s claims “unfounded charges, harmful to my reputation”.

Prison: EP: Overcrowding Hit Record High in Some EU Countries

Rapporteur, in Italy situation remains critical

(ANSA) — STRASBOURG — Concern over the living conditions of detainees and over the “levels at record high”, was expressed by the European Parliament through a resolution adopted by the plenary in Strasbourg with 474 votes in favour, 109 against 34 abstentions. In the explanatory memorandum accompanying the text, signed by the rapporteur, (part of which he did not vote in the parliament), it is emphasized that, despite a decrease in the prison population in Europe, “the situation remains critical in some countries, such as Belgium, Greece, Spain, France, Portugal and Italy”. With about 1,600,000 detainees in Europe, the French rapporteur writes in his press release, overcrowding “is a real human problem”. According to the latest edition of the Council of Europe’s annual penal statistics, released on March 14, 2017 — the resolution voted in the parliament reported — “the number of detainees continues to exceed the number of available places in one third of European correctional institutions”. The statement, among other things, expressed concern over the “high number of suicides in prison” and calls on the member countries to “fight against the growing phenomenon of radicalization”.

FAO: World Bank Launch $36 Mn Programme for Yemen

Middle Eastern country hit by famine amid conflict

(ANSA) — Rome, October 4 — The World Bank and the Rome-based United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said Tuesday that have launched a $36 million project aimed at providing immediate assistance to over 630,000 poor and food-insecure people in Yemen — more than 30 percent of whom are women — as well as increasing longer term agricultural resilience in the conflict-ridden country.

With an estimated 17 million people facing Emergency or Crisis levels of acute food insecurity, Yemen is currently experiencing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. The ongoing conflict has severely affected the agriculture sector and has had a devastating impact on the food security, nutrition and livelihood of Yemenis. “The project will have a strong humanitarian impact in Yemen, as it will provide emergency support and help in building the resilience of the vulnerable Yemeni population,” said Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa. “Since agriculture is one of the most important economic sectors in Yemen, reviving agricultural activities will increase people’s access to food as well as income-generating activities, which means greater food security.

“But the project also goes beyond immediate humanitarian assistance,” Ould Ahmed added. “The project will strengthen the capacities of the Yemen Social Development Fund, government agencies and local NGOs to restore the capacity of Yemeni farmers who lost their livelihoods due to ongoing conflict and ensure they will be able to maintain crucial access to their livelihood in years to come”.

  1. ** which municipalities haven’t the slightest hope of surviving their multi-decade debt binge and lavish public pension awards **

I may have already told the story about the fellow at an AA meeting who described the complete disaster his life had become as an active alcoholic. “And my best thinking got me there,” he said.

Huge numbers of voters and officials have concluded that the iron laws of arithmetic either don’t operate with respect to the cornucopia that industrial/technological life appears to be or don’t apply in their circumstances. Either way, it’s hard to see the difference between that “thinking” and that alcoholic’s.

To expand that, our intellectual shining lights of the last 105 or so years – our Intellectual Yet Idiot (IYI) supernovas – decided they were the perfect ones to upend the legal and social order by selling notions of the “living Constitution” (rubbery law), “propositional nation” (no nation), abhorrent “states rights” (federal leviathan), “Great Society” (end of society), and the like. All notions that would embarrass a crack whore but enthusiastically embraced by bench, bar, legislature, executive, press, clergy, and acadreame.

We’ll see how this movie turns out. Seems to me that “pitiless crowbar of events” of which Solzhenitsyn spoke at Harvard is raised quite high over many a windshield.

    • The sad part is that many of these pension shortfalls could have been avoided if the IYI class had assumed realistic long-term returns of 3% rather than the 7-8% most assumed.

    • The lack of concern shows the govt’s true priorities – replace real Swiss with ignorant, easily controlled welfare addicts from the Third World that will vote the way they’re paid to vote.

      • Yes. The Holmesian formula works here: once you eliminate the impossibility that the Swiss government operates in the interests of Swiss people, what remains, however absurd, is the truth.

  2. Does anyone else have an uneasy feeling in their stomach that Vegas might have been another Fort Sumter and we just don’t know it yet?

    • Well, there is more to that massacre than meets the wary eye. There is now some evidence to suggest that Antifa or some members of that ‘anti-fascist’ commie outfit, have been training with ISIS and other affiliated jihadi outfits in the Middle East.

Antifa and ISIS paraphenalia were apparently found in the ‘alleged shooters’ hotel room.

There is also some evidence that the alleged ‘lone shooter’ in Las Vegas had links to the CIA through Skunkworks, where he was at one time employed. It doesn’t take much imagination to then realize that those links would also have exposed him to the kind of thinking that got ISIS up and running.

According to his gal, the alleged shooter, would often wake at night screaming and crying – I wonder what would have been the cause of all that emotion in such a wealthy individual?

      MK ULTRA anyone?
