Here we go again…or rather, here we are, still…

In addition to the Baron’s fever dampening down his desire and ability to post anything, there is the weather getting in the way. Or more to the point, there is what unremitting rain seems to do to our phone service.

A long siege of storms in the last few days appears to have water-logged a series of junction boxes (if that’s what they’re called) all along the rural routes here in the Back of Beyond. When we awoke to no phone service, the Baron decided he’d better call Century Link and find out how widespread the outage was. Using a cellphone here entails getting into the car and driving to a spot where the signal is high enough.

He’d only driven a few hundred yards when he saw the CL service truck making its way through the rain. He hailed him (so to speak) and the fellow said it would be a while before we’d get our service back since he had to check all those boxes to find the source of the problem.

I don’t know what “a while” means in landline telephone terms but for us, connectivity of both the phone and the internet came back about six hours later – half an hour ago.

The Baron’s fevers continue to come and go. He’ll call the doctor tomorrow and if she says the same thing Century Link’s customer service did a few days ago – “this is a widespread problem” – he’ll go back to bed with some more homemade ginger ale and various fever reducers and just wait it out.

Oh dear. I just looked at the weather reports. We are now under a tornado watch for the next few hours…yeah, we do have a fairly safe place in the house if it looks dangerous…

I’m glad I had this all-too-brief opportunity to check in with everyone. Hope you’re cool and dry, wherever you are.
