Gates of Vienna News Feed 6/6/2011The deadly E. coli outbreak has most recently been blamed on contaminated bean sprouts from a farm in Germany. However, tests now indicate that the bacterial strain did not come from there, and the origin of the outbreak remains a mystery. Fresh produce sales have plummeted in Europe, and the EU is considering paying compensation to farmers who have been hit hard by the crisis.

In other news, a Serbian witness who testified first against Slobodan Milosevic and more recently against Vojislav Seselj told a war crimes tribunal in the Hague that he had been threatened with imprisonment to force him to lie in his testimony against both men.

Meanwhile, an Iranian ayatollah who acts as an advisor to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a fatwa saying that the killing of Israelis, including children, is not only permitted but mandatory for all Muslims.
