German Intel Chief Defends His Efforts to Police the “Thought and Speech Patterns” of Citizens

Authored by ‘Eugyppius’ via Substack

The German Interior Ministry continues to defend its controversial and widely criticised plans to restrict the speech, travel and economic activity of political dissidents. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), our domestic intelligence service and political police, have sacrificed substantial popular regard in the face of this campaign. According to a poll published last month, a plurality of Germans believe that the BfV is being misused for political purposes. The sentiment is prominent across all parties, except of course for the Greens, who believe that all is well with the Federal Republic.

The creepy, dissolute and rodent-looking BfV chief, Thomas Haldenwang, has taken to the pages of the Frankfurter Allgemeine to defend the conduct of his office and his plans to shape the “thought and speech patterns” of ordinary people through official repression.

Poland Plots “Hate Speech” Censorship Law — Including Jailing Offenders for as Much as Three Years

Poland’s new left-leaning government is pioneering an unprecedented crackdown on so-called “hate speech.” Newly proposed legislation could result in three-year imprisonment sentences for individuals accused of delivering offensive remarks against members of the LGBT community. The fresh approach to law enforcement has been attributed to the left’s successful rise to power, fulfilling earlier calls for rigid speech control.

The Polish Ministry of Justice has put forth a draft amendment on hate speech for public viewing on the official Government Legislation Center website. This proposed legislation targets not only hate speech related to sexual orientation and gender identity, but expands its scope to include offenses against age, disability, and gender.

UK Police Focus on Minor Speech Incidents Over Traditional Crime

Reports indicate that, despite recent government directives, UK police forces continue to document instances such as neighborhood squabbles, inebriated tirades, and online disputes as incidences of hatred. This, unusually, includes business owners on the receiving end of negative internet reviews. Last year, authorities appealed to the police to halt documenting occurrences devoid of any clear evidence of deliberate bias. Nonetheless, the trend persists.

Worryingly, this diversion of attention appears to coincide with a substantial drop in the resolution rate for conventional crimes. Home Office data reveals that in 2023, a meager 3.9% of robbery incidents resulted in charges being laid.

The event was part of a campaign to highlight what they said was the damage done to motorists by the policy in the run-up to the London mayoral election next month.

Around 100 demonstrators, with accompanying vehicles including a bus and a fire engine, waved banners and used loudhailers but were swiftly issued with a S42 dispersal order by police, who were there in large numbers.

UK: Now the Hundreds of Just Stop Oil’s ‘Youth Wing’ Plots Chaos on Tube Network in Co-Ordinated Attacks That Could Cripple the Network

Hundreds of young eco-zealots and pro-Palestine activists are plotting to wreak havoc on the London Underground this week, The Mail on Sunday has revealed.

In a bid to cripple the network, the co-ordinated attacks would see them flood into central Tube stations and block train carriages, causing chaos for commuters and tourists.

In an echo of the environmental protests which block major roads, many of those involved are willing to remain in place until arrested and hauled away by police.

Wilders to Stop Pushing for Nexit: Wants “Netherlands First” Agenda in EU Parliament

Geert Wilders and his far-right PVV party wants to work on “putting the Netherlands first” in the European Parliament, and will not include its position to leave the European Union in its election manifesto. The party pleaded for a so-called Nexit in its campaign for the last European elections in 2019, and even had a section about it in its manifesto released ahead of the Dutch parliamentary election last November.

“We will work very hard to change the EU from the inside,” the PVV wrote. They also added that “intensive economic cooperation” benefits the country.

Israeli Troops Recover Slain Gaza Hostage; Egypt to Host New Truce Talks

Israel said on Saturday its special forces had recovered the body of a hostage killed while being held captive in Gaza, as the Palestinian enclave’s dominant Islamist movement Hamas said it would take part in a new round of ceasefire talks in Cairo.

Almost six months into the war, Israel has faced protests at home demanding a deal to free the dwindling number of live hostages from Hamas’s October 7 cross-border rampage. Western countries, meanwhile, have voiced outrage over what they see as an unacceptably high Palestinian civilian toll and the accompanying humanitarian crisis.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian forces overnight attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles, killing at least six people and wounding 11 more in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, local officials reported.

Ukraine Denies Russia’s Claimed Takeover of Eastern Town

The “meat grinder” continued in Ukraine Saturday with intense battles in the partially occupied eastern Donetsk region, as Russian forces tried to penetrate Ukrainian defenses during the war’s 772nd day of fighting.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed its troops now control Vodiane, a settlement within Donetsk, after thwarting two counterattacks by Ukraine’s mountain brigade.

Russian state media said fighters also entered the suburbs of Chasiv Yar, near Bakhmut — claims Ukraine roundly denied.

Bakhmut was the scene of major fighting last year, with heavy losses on both sides, until Moscow’s forces took the city in May.

Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Vows ‘No Compromise’ With Russia, Claims Country Wants to Keep Fighting

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff said this week that there will be no “compromises” with Russia despite fears that Moscow will seek to capture more territory after the failures of the counteroffensive last year.

Andriy Yermak, one of the most powerful figures in the Zelensky government, told POLITICO that Kyiv will not accept any terms in which the lines of conflict are frozen and that Ukraine will not accept any agreement that infringes upon its borders.

“The Russians are not interested in any negotiations. They want the capitulation of Ukraine. But it will never happen — all of us who are in Ukraine, we will not accept any compromise on our independence, on our territorial integrity, on our freedom. And this president will never agree to anything like the Minsk agreements or a frozen conflict. No, I’m sure about that,” Yermak said.

Professors Claim Pointing Out How Hamas Brutalizes LGBTQ People is ‘Homophobic Violence’

Describing Hamas’ brutalization of LGBTQ Palestinians needs to be labeled “homophobic violence,” university professors suggested at an event last month.

Associate Professor Maya Mikdashi took part in a discussion at the school titled “Palestine is a Feminist and Queer Anti-Imperialist Abolition Struggle” with University of Illinois professor Nadine Naber on March 20. During the event, Mikdashi pushed back on the complaint that Palestinians and Hamas mistreat LGBTQ citizens, claiming that the assertion itself is a form of bigotry.

Just over a year after the publication of the Casablanca Declaration, aimed at securing an international ban on surrogacy, the people behind this initiative gathered in Rome for a conference and met Pope Francis, who expressed his warm support for them.

The aim of the conference, organised in Rome April 5-6, was to bring together international experts—lawyers, doctors, politicians—to raise public awareness of the dangers of surrogacy and how its growing acceptance in developed countries has increased the exploitation of the poorest countries where women are recruited to rent out their wombs for this new style of trade.

Scottish Police Warn Hate Speech Law Will Force Cuts in Policing Actual Crime

Scottish police have warned that the controversial new hate speech law enacted by the leftist government of Humza Yousaf will force police to cut backs on the policing of actual crimes.

The head of the Scottish Police Federation (SPF), David Threadgold, warned on Saturday that the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act will necessitate sacrificing other areas of policing due to the strain on officer time recording and investigating complaints of potential speech violations.

Police Scotland was bombarded with over 6,000 complaints since the new speech restrictions came into place on Monday, creating a vaguely-worded criminal offence of “stirring up hatred” against several protected groups with a maximum punishment of up to seven years in prison.
