Gates of Vienna News Feed 1/2/2024

A passenger plane carrying nearly 400 people collided with a coast guard jet at a Tokyo airport and burst into a ball of fire, killing at least five crew members of the coast guard plane, which was taking aid to earthquake victims. Meanwhile, the death toll from the earthquake in Japan has risen to 55.

In other news, a small earthquake, estimated at 1.7 magnitude, struck New York City early this morning in the vicinity of Roosevelt Island. What sounded like a series of explosions popped manhole covers. Experts say the quake may be connected with an incident in which the celebrity rapper Lizzo fell off a stage.

OK, so I made that last sentence up, but still…

Most Canadians Say They’re Financially Worse Off Since Trudeau Elected: Poll

A new Nanos poll has revealed that over half of Canadians say their personal finances are worse off today than they were in 2015, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first took office.

In 2015, Trudeau ran on an election campaign promise to “help the middle class and those aspiring to join it.”

However in 2023, with the high cost of living, inflation and interest-rate hikes, millions of indebted Canadians said that they will be voting with these issues being their top priority.

The polls saw 53% of respondents saying that their personal finances are worse now than they were eight years ago.

Al Gore Warns of Consequences of Failing WEF’s ‘Net Zero’ Agenda

“Eco-warrior” Al Gore has issued a warning to the public about what he claims will happen to Earth if humanity fails to comply with the “Net Zero” climate goals of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

In a fearmongering statement, the Democrat former vice president made an apocalyptic prediction about what the world will look like if the public refuses to kneel before the green agenda of unelected foreign globalists and corporate elites.

According to Gore’s latest dire threat, there will be a “billion” climate refugees crossing our borders if the public fails to “save the planet” from the so-called “climate crisis.”

Berkeley’s Ban on Gas-Powered Appliances Once Again Blocked by Ninth Circuit

Berkeley became the first city in the nation to pass an outright ban on natural gas-powered stoves and other appliances in 2019, in an effort to combat climate change, and the local ordinance took effect in early 2020. But since then, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has thwarted the city, ruling that only the federal government has jurisdiction to enact such bans.

On Tuesday, the Ninth Circuit issued a ruling denying an “en banc” rehearing of a case that was decided by a three-judge panel of the court last April. In that ruling, three Republican-appointed judges said that Berkeley could not regulate “the quantity of energy” being used by businesses or residences, and that such laws are the exclusive purview of the federal government.

Miami Cops Arrest Teens After Fireworks, Riots, Fights Erupted at Bayside Marketplace

Cops arrested four teens Monday night after fireworks, riots and fights erupted at Bayside Marketplace — resulting in dozens of officers swarming the Downtown Miami shopping mall on New Year’s Day, police said.

Two 15-year-old boys were charged with burglary, third-degree grand theft and battery. Two other boys, ages 14 and 16, and one of the 15-year-olds were charged with resisting arrest without violence, their arrest reports show.

Around 8:30 p.m., multiple officers from different parts of Miami rushed to Bayside Marketplace, 401 Biscayne Blvd., in response to a city-wide emergency call at the two-story, open-air shopping center after 911 callers reported hearing what they thought were gunshots, Officer Michael Vega, a police spokesman, told the Miami Herald in an email Tuesday.

“There were several reports of possible gunfire but it was just fireworks,” Vega said.

Videos and live streams started popping up on social media showing numerous police cars occupying Biscayne Boulevard, temporarily shutting it down between Second and Fourth streets.

According to the teens’ arrest reports, officers began escorting around 50 juveniles out of the mall when they spotted about 15 teens beating up a driver.

When cops used their car’s loudspeakers to tell the teens to stop what they were doing, they ran west on Southeast Second Avenue and then north on Northeast Second Avenue, police said. Officers ran after the teens, ending up at a parking garage, 30 W First St.

After four teens were arrested, the driver said two of them beat him up because he confronted them for throwing a bottle against his car. The driver also told police that one of them stole a blue iPhone 13 Pro Max from his car’s center console.

EU’s True Rule-of-Law Standards Revealed by Tusk’s Takeover of Poland’s Public Media

With all the legal mess and competing directors claiming to be heading Polish public television TVP, one just needed to watch the evening news on TVP1 last week to realize who was now truly in charge.

On Thursday, for example, the news service’s first headline was dedicated to praising Culture Minister Barlomiej Sienkiewicz’s last move to put Poland’s public media in a state of liquidation. This decision was explained in a positive light only. After all, this is all the fault of President Andrzej Duda, who no longer wants Polish television TVP to be financed with public money now that it is not in the hands of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, according to TVP.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk was shown several times, in contrast to opposition leaders who did not appear once on air, and Tusk’s announcements were strongly supported by the commentators’ narrative.

Germany: New Year’s Eve Attacks in Berlin Described as “Normal”

Conservative media outlets and social media users are outraged by New Year’s Eve attacks on the emergency services—mostly committed by young Muslim men—which authorities and politicians have hailed as a more peaceful “return to normal” when compared to last year.

Authorities in Berlin described New Year’s Eve celebrations in the German capital as more peaceful than in 2022. “Only” 390 people were detained and 54 police officers injured. After last year’s riots—when mainly young men of an African or Middle Eastern background targeted and attacked officers, firefighters, and medical personnel with fireworks—Berlin and other major cities were much better prepared.

As we reported, German municipalities planned to deploy many more police officers on Sunday in order to prevent the levels of violence seen the previous year.

German Liberals Close to Pulling Plug on Government Coalition

Berlin’s trafficlight coalition avoided disaster on January 1st as the liberal Freie Demokratische Partei (FDP) narrowly voted to continue propping up the beleaguered Scholz chancellorship by a razor-thin 52% to 48% margin.

The smallest component in Germany’s threeway social-democratic led coalition, the fiscally conservative FDP, is noted to be increasingly at odds with Scholz and the Green Party, especially in light of a recent €60 billion budgetary scandal that sent German finances into disarray in November.

Approximately one-third of the party’s 76,000-strong membership took part in the non-binding resolution which, if passed, would have potentially heralded fresh elections in the country.

Germany: Anti-Globalist AfD Climbs to Nearly 40% in Saxony

The German state of Saxony is becoming a source of concern for the country’s anti-German, globalist establishment as a recent poll indicates that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) is reaching a record high. At the same time, the Social Democrats (SPD) face the possibility of being entirely excluded from the state parliament.

According to the latest poll conducted by the research institute Civey, the AfD has climbed to 37 percent of the vote, marking a four-point increase since the previous poll four weeks ago. The SPD meanwhile, in stark contrast, is projected to secure a mere 3 percent of the vote, a significant decline from the 7.7 percent it achieved five years ago.

Record Mortality in Britain in 2023: NHS Strikes Played a Key Role

Britain recorded historically high mortality in 2023, as reported by The Telegraph. In a non-pandemic year, there were over 53,000 additional deaths, setting the highest figure since World War II.

According to the publication, a key factor contributing to this statistic was the strikes by National Health Service (NHS) workers. In 2023, healthcare workers went on strike for 38 days, leading to a significant deterioration in service and contributing to the increase in mortality, according to experts.

Schengen Expands: Increased Free Movement With Minimal Accountability

On Saturday December 30th, citizens of European Union member states Romania and Bulgaria were informed that they would be allowed to travel passport-free by sea or air to most of the EU’s member states, starting at the end of March 2024, thanks to the consensus reached within the European Council.

In a surprise development, visa-free travel was also opened up to Kosovars seeking to cross into the EU’s Schengen Area, which permits over 400 million EU citizens free movement.

While Ireland and Cyprus will still require some form of travel documents—as they are not part of Schengen—non-EU members Norway and Switzerland will now also admit Bulgarians, Romanians, and Kosovars without requiring them to show their passports.

Man of the Year: The IDF Soldier

In a bad year when the civilized world seems stuck in a pattern of endless retreat, he is fighting back.

Under Biden’s leadership, America has been invaded by hordes of millions of migrants, and Europe continues to stagger under an endless wave of migration from the Muslim world. That’s why American and European cities are being torn apart by rioting mobs supporting Hamas.

But after Israel was invaded on Oct 7, it fought back. The men on the front lines are not the politicians or the generals, they’re among the 360,000 reservists activated in a nation with a Jewish population of 7 million who left behind their homes, families and jobs to go and fight.

The Israeli military was unprepared for both Oct 7 and a call-up of this size. The soldiers were fed, clothed, and equipped by the people. While the media reports on the fighting, the truly incredible unreported story is how civilian volunteers have become the supply and support (the ‘tooth-to-tail’) of the Israel Defense Forces or the IDF.

In a small country, volunteers have been bringing food every day, they have provided clothes, shipped in body armor and even showed up with washing machines on pickup trucks to do the laundry. Some civilian volunteers have been wounded and even killed while delivering food. Israeli housewives have formed the Baking Battalion to make cookies, a cooking school produces meals for the troops and restaurants operate free food trucks. Others have stepped in to harvest crops and run the shops of the reservists who have been called up to serve in Gaza.

When the government and the leaders failed, the ordinary Israeli stepped up.

Some armies call themselves the “people’s army”: IDF soldiers really are. They’ve gone into Gaza knowing that the country stands behind them, not as an ideal, but as an everyday reality. Israel is a small country and everyone knows someone who died, came under attack, is among the 200,000 who left their homes to be out of range of the terrorist attacks, or in the ranks of those who are fighting or who have already fallen in defense of their nation.

Israel today reminds me of New York City after September 11 where for a brief shining moment everyone except the worst leftists pulled together against a common enemy. That spirit may well pass in Israel as it did in America, but while it lasts, it is something to admire and emulate…

‘Activists’ Infuriated as Dave Chappelle Explains Transgender Position in New Special

If everyone pretends that the emperor has clothes when he’s naked, does that mean he’s not naked? All it takes is one person to point out reality and break the collectively enabled delusion, so everyone must play along. Why? Because the delusion makes the emperor feel special and appeases his entitlement — Anger the emperor and he might make the whole nation miserable. Just play along, what could it hurt?

The trans movement exists in this kind of bubble, a place where objective truth is no longer welcome and cognitive dissonance is encouraged for the sake of comfort. And much like any oppressive environment the more people self censor to avoid rocking the boat the harder it is for individuals to speak their minds. This is how consent is manufactured; by creating the illusion of consensus.

Dave Chappelle is one of the few entertainers in the Hollywood arena that’s willing to point out when the emperor has no clothes, which is why the political left hates him with a seething passion. Despite their consistent attempts to cancel his career, Chappelle is back with another Netflix special called ‘The Dreamer.’ The comedian opens with guns blazing on the trans agenda…

DHS Joins With Woke Universities to Label “Manosphere” a Terror Threat

Since at least the year 2020 the Department of Homeland Security has been funding a series of woke university programs across the country. They have spent millions of dollars (that we know of) to incentivize academic groups, not with the goal of countering foreign terror elements or even to investigate US preppers and patriots, but to develop tools for disrupting what some call the “Manosphere” movement (previously known as the Red Pill movement) — A movement focused on countering feminism and feminist propaganda.

Is arguing logically against feminism really such a threat to the nation? No, but it is a threat to the woke movement, which has been on the decline in recent years as more and more information about their ideology is scrutinized by the public.

Federal Appeals Court Rules Biden Admin Can’t Force Texas Doctors to Perform Emergency Abortions

A panel of judges on a federal appeals court unanimously ruled Tuesday that the Biden administration can’t compel emergency room doctors in Texas to perform abortions in order to stabilize a patient.

USA Boxing Slammed for New Transgender Policy That Allows Biological Men to Compete Against Women

A new kind of fight is brewing in the boxing world.

USA Boxing, the governing body of the sport in the United States, is being slammed for its “pathetic and disgusting” new transgender policy that allows biological men to compete against biological women.

Under the new policy, included in the 2024 rule book, male boxers who transition can compete in the female category so long as they meet certain criteria.

Those under the age of 18 are still required to compete as their birth gender, but adults can choose their category as long as they state their new gender identity and fully complete gender reassignment surgery.

Transgender athletes must also participate in regular hormone testing.
