Czechia: Water Prices to Surge in Prague Starting Next Year

Residents of Prague are set to face higher water costs in the coming year with a 13 percent year-on-year increase beginning in 2024.

The upswing will impact both the water supply fee and the sewage fee, culminating in a total cost of 144.88 Czech korunas per cubic meter, up from this year’s 128.18 CZK. The approved pricing for 2024 follows a strategy endorsed by the Prague City Council in February 2022, outlining an annual two percent rise in water supply and sewage fees above inflation until 2028.

Notably, there has been a surge in the availability of used Skoda Octavias, with the selling time for these models extending into the second half of the year.

Driver Says He Hit an Animal, But Police Found a Dead Body in His Car

Police think the impact from the crash was severe enough to throw the pedestrian into the vehicle

A man is in custody and expected to face criminal charges after police say he fatally struck a pedestrian in Dallas and then drove nearly 40 miles to a restaurant in White Settlement with the victim’s dead body in his passenger seat.

White Settlement Police said they were called to a restaurant parking lot at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday after a passerby reported a vehicle in the parking lot with extensive damage and the driver slumped over the steering wheel. An officer arrived a short time later and noticed a lifeless person was also in the front passenger seat.

Police said the officers asked the driver, 31-year-old Nestor Luján Flores, to exit the vehicle and contacted emergency fire and medical personnel, who confirmed the passenger was deceased.

In a statement, police said detectives believe the impact was so severe that the pedestrian was thrown inside the vehicle and came to rest on the passenger seat. Investigators also believe Flores may have arrived at the restaurant parking lot between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., at least two hours before being noticed.

White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook told reporters Sunday that Flores never called 911 to report he’d had a collision. Cook added that in his 28 years of law enforcement, he’d never seen a case like this.

“It’s very unfortunate that he did not realize that this was a human being to stop and render aid, and call for help,” Cook said. “When you’re impaired to this level where you hit a pedestrian on the roadway and you think it’s an animal, that’s a significant impairment.”

Family Business: The Cases Against Joe and Hunter Biden

U.S. President Joe Biden faces possible impeachment by the United States Congress, while his son Hunter faces felony counts on several charges. Both cases are linked to Hunter’s business dealings—stretching back almost a decade—to when Biden senior served as vice president.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to formalise the impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s involvement in the foreign business dealings of Hunter Biden. One Chinese deal, which involved the company CEFC China Energy, saw the Chinese power conglomorate transfer around $4.8 million in payments to entities controlled by Hunter Biden or Joe’s brother James Biden between 2017 and 2018.

Hunter Biden’s involvement in Ukraine dates back to 2014 when he was hired to the board of energy company Burisma, despite having no prior energy sector experience. During this period his father Joe Biden served as Vice President to Barack Obama.

Former Google CEO Urges Social Media to Verify Users, Block VPNs, and Watermark AI Deepfakes to Combat “Misinformation”

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has penned an opinion piece in which he presented his “6-point” plan for combating what he has decided to consider election “disinformation.”

Some of Schmidt’s ideas include blocking VPNs and “authenticating” people behind every social media account, and he would like US legislators, regulators, and (tech) companies to heed his recommendations — “before it’s too late.”

By no means does Schmidt’s choice of alarmist vocabulary end there. In the article, published by the MIT Technology Review (that was once dedicated to technology and sciences behind it, rather than being used as a sounding board for political initiatives), he talks about the upcoming year as one of “seismic” political shifts, and just in general, “the biggest election year in history” with democracies “facing a historic test worldwide.”

White House Plans One More Ukraine Aid Package, Then Up to Congress

WASHINGTON (Reuters) — President Joe Biden is planning one more military aid package in December for Ukraine in its war against Russia, the White House said on Monday, then further assistance to Kyiv will require an agreement in Congress where prospects for a deal were uncertain.

“When that one’s done … we will have no more replenishment authority available to us and we’re going to need Congress to act without delay,” White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said.

The White House has warned that U.S. aid will run out by the year’s end for Ukraine’s fight to retake territory occupied by Russian forces since it invaded in February 2022.

Talks continued on Monday in the Senate, where Democrats have a slim majority, on a deal that would include aid for Ukraine and Israel as well as new measures to improve security at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Thousands of German Restaurants Face Closure as VAT on Food Rises

The German hospitality industry is facing a grim Christmas as the government announces a VAT increase for food served in hotels and restaurants, raising it from 7% to 19% starting January. Ukraine’s Accession Into the EU Could Collapse Several Sectors of the Irish Economy

Ukraine’s potential accession to the EU could have detrimental effects on various sectors of the Irish economy, warns The Irish Times.

The publication argues that the inclusion of these countries in the Commonwealth of European States would fundamentally alter the nature of the union. The author contends that such expansion would likely result in the collapse of several segments of the Irish economy.

The author speculates that the EU might need to overhaul its decision-making system to accommodate the admission of these two countries. This could entail the removal of the veto right, placing decisions solely in the hands of the majority. Consequently, Ireland might lose its ability to block initiatives that are unfavorable to its interests, particularly those actively supported by Germany and France, thereby impacting the country’s economy.

Assaulting Women is the New Feminism

by Daniel Greenfield

Last year, Payton McNabb, a teenage girl, was seriously injured while playing in a high school volleyball game against a transgender male athlete in North Carolina. A year later she’s still struggling with partial paralysis and constant headaches, and has trouble learning.

If Payton expected feminist groups to side with her, she was disappointed. Instead the Feminist Majority Foundation, the nonprofit that publishes Ms. Magazine, denounced the “Fairness in Women’s Sports Act” bill meant to protect teenage girls like her.

The Feminist Majority Foundation, along with Feminist Campus, Equal Rights Advocates, Girls Inc, Women’s Legal Defense and Education Fund, Trust Women, United State of Women, and the National Organization for Women, and numerous feminist groups signed a letter attacking the federal ‘Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act’ for daring to protect women from suffering the way that Payton and other female athletes had.

A dozen organizations with “women”, “girl” or “feminist” in their names were dedicated to the proposition that womens’ sports should be eliminated and that any women or girls who play should be ready to suffer catastrophic injuries from 220-lb. ‘transgender’ male athletes.

Beating women and denying their existence is the new feminism. So is raping women.

In the wake of the Hamas rapes during the invasion of Israel on Oct 7, some have wondered where the feminist organizations are. The answer is that they’re supporting the rapists.

Feminist Front coordinated a statement claiming that “Palestine” was a “feminist issue” and complaining that “Palestinian boys and men have been falsely portrayed as bloodthirsty terrorists, rapists, and savages”. The statement was signed by the Global Women’s Strike, Feminist Uprising, Black Feminist Future, HEART: Women and Girls and other socialist organizations.

When feminist groups weren’t outright supporting the rapists, they were ducking the issue…
