Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/21/2023

The Israeli government and Hamas have reached a deal, brokered by Qatar, that will see a four-day pause in hostilities in return for the release of fifty hostages by Hamas. Israel will reportedly also release 150 Hamas prisoners, which is an unusually low ratio in such hostage exchanges — normally there are at least ten Palestinian prisoners released for every Israeli hostage freed.

In other news, Geert Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom (Partij voor de Vrijheid, PVV) in the Netherlands, is currently leading the polls for the upcoming elections. If the polls are accurate, the PVV will become the largest party in the Tweede Kamer.

Rising Food Inflation Hits Low Income Families Across Europe, Widening Disparities

Despite a decline in overall inflation rates in the Eurozone since its peak in October 2022, a new challenge emerges as food inflation remains persistently high, particularly affecting low-income households across Europe.

The latest data reveals that real food inflation, calculated by subtracting overall inflation from food inflation, stood at 4.6% in the Eurozone (4% in the EU) in October 2023, intensifying economic pressures on vulnerable households, Euronews reports. Notably, the gap between the overall inflation rate and that of food and non-alcoholic beverages has widened over the past 12 months, presenting unprecedented challenges.

One of the attackers convicted in the beating of a Jewish man in Times Square in 2021 caused a ruckus inside a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday — shouting “Free Palestine” as his rowdy supporters accused the judge of being racist at his sentencing hearing.

Tensions flared in Manhattan Supreme Court after Mahmoud Musa, 23, was slapped with seven years in prison for attacking Joseph Borgen, a Jewish man, during a clash between Israel and Palestinian supporters on May 20, 2021 in Midtown.

As Musa was being walked back to a holding cell in handcuffs, he turned to tell his family he loved them — before yelling “Free Palestine” twice, sparking an all-out shouting match in Judge Felicia Mennin’s courtroom.

Netherlands: “If a Country is Sovereign, Who Cares About the EU?” An Interview With Wybren Van Haga

Wybren Van Haga is a Dutch cultural conservative, libertarian, and entrepreneur. Following a decades-long affiliation with Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD), a year spent as an independent MP, and then a brief stint at Thierry Baudet’s Forum voor Democratie (FvD), van Haga struck out on his own.

In July of 2021, he founded his own party, Belang Voor Nederland (BVNL). Alarmed by the direction Dutch politics is heading, through this party, van Haga seeks to promote and preserve hard-won individual freedoms whilst curtailing the size of the state.

Two days before the country’s parliamentary elections, Mr. van Haga sat down with The European Conservative to talk about—among other things—ugly communist architecture, oppressive political elites, and how a return to personal autonomy and responsibility can slow down, if not halt, the West’s headlong plunge into decadence.

We met van Haga in his modest office in The Hague, not in the ‘Binnenhof’—a building complex which for centuries has been the beating heart of Dutch politics—but its decidedly less impressive temporary stand-in, while the former is under renovation.

Solitary British Police Commissioner States Blatant Truth on Cannabis

Law enforcement on cannabis is “pathetically weak” and has been for years. That is according to Alison Hernandez, the Conservative Party Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Devon and Cornwall.

This has, in fact, been clear for decades. In his 2012 book on “the British Establishment’s Surrender to Drugs,” Peter Hitchens responded to the claim that cannabis and other substances ought to be legalised because the ‘war on drugs’ has failed by arguing that this was The War We Never Fought. He showed that officials long ago stopped enforcing the law against those found in possession of cannabis—that is, found breaking the law. The worst many users could fear was being dealt a ‘cannabis warning,’ which does not constitute a criminal record and need not be declared to employers.

The argument was dismissed then. It still is by some, though most recognise that cannabis is de facto legal. So much so, in fact, that PCC Hernandez said “a lot of people think it already is legal.” Now, she added, there is a permanent and “absolute stink” across Britain’s streets, yet the issue gets “ignored.”

China Pitches Plan to End Israel-Hamas War as Gaza Refugees Face Dire Living Conditions — 160 Sharing Single Toilet

China released what it called its three-step plan Tuesday for ending the Israel-Hamas war — while Gaza refugees in UN shelters are reduced to sharing a single toilet for every 160 people and one shower for every 700.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, speaking at a summit of BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — called for the formation of an “international peace conference” aimed at establishing an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.

“Second, humanitarian corridors must be kept secure and unimpeded, and more humanitarian assistance should be provided to the population in Gaza,” Jinping said, according to the state-run Xinhua news outlet.

“Third, the international community must act with practical measures to prevent the conflict from spilling over and endangering stability in the Middle East as a whole,” he said.

Israel, Hamas Reach Deal for 50 Hostages in Exchange for Multi-Day Cease-Fire in War: Reports

Israel has approved a deal with Hamas in which 50 hostages held by the terror group would be freed in exchange for a cease-fire in Gaza lasting at least four days.

The Qatar-mediated agreement was approved by the Israel Cabinet early Wednesday morning local time after more than five hours of debating.

As part of the deal — struck more than six weeks into the war — Hamas is set to release 50 of the 240 hostages taken during their Oct. 7 attack on the Jewish nation, according to the Israeli government.

The hostage releases would occur over the course of a four-day cease-fire in Gaza, which has been devastated by Israel’s retaliatory airstrikes and subsequent ground attack aimed at destroying Hamas.

The pause in fighting would extend an extra day for every 10 additional hostages released by Hamas, the Israeli government said.

Israeli Intelligence to be Granted Full Access to National Biometric Database

The Israeli government is implementing significant amendments in the usage and access of biometric data, which could have profound implications for privacy rights, per recent reports from the Calcalist.

This move demonstrates a radical shift in the control of civilian and private biometric data, especially during the country’s wartime.

The series of altered data permissions are presently making their way through the Knesset, the country’s legislative body, taking the form of regulatory modifications and legislative memos. This proposes a scenario where, barring judicial resistance, the Israeli military, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement could acquire increased surveillance authority.

The ‘Two-State Solution’ is Terrorism

by Daniel Greenfield

“We must keep pursuing peace. We must keep pursuing a path so that Israel and the Palestinian people can both live safely, in security, in dignity, and in peace. For me, that means a two-state solution,” Biden lectured Israelis during his visit.

A two state solution dividing up Israel into a state for the Jews and a state for the Muslim terrorists has been on the minds of Biden, administration officials, EU leaders and the media.

Before his visit to Israel, Biden called Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas and scheduled a meeting with him. Secretary of State Blinken had met with Abbas the day before.

According to an official of Abbas’ Fatah party which runs the Palestinian Authority, “Blinken even demanded before he met with him that there be a condemnation” of the Hamas attacks. But no such condemnation was forthcoming. Nevertheless the media falsely reported that Abbas had disavowed Hamas. In reality, a statement was planted in a readout of a call with Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro without Abbas’ knowledge. When Abbas found out, he had it removed.

Abbas’s actual reaction to the Hamas murder of women and children was to assert the right of the “Palestinian people to defend themselves against the terrorism of settlers and the occupation forces”.

While Biden and Blinken were preparing to meet with the terrorist leader, a terror unit that is part of Abbas’ Fatah party was claiming credit for collaborating with Hamas on the attacks.

A spokesman for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades boasted that the “together with the rest of the Palestinian resistance factions” it “carried out several operations behind enemy lines as part of ‘the Al-Aqsa Flood’ battle”, which is the Hamas name for the attacks, and claimed that “we killed and took captive occupation soldiers” as part of a “joint operations room”.

Biden’s alternative to Hamas was actually killing Israelis in coordination with Hamas…

  1. “Czechia Has Received All 14 Leopard Tanks Gifted by Germany”

Leopard 2A4 – it was “old tank” in 1989, and today it is older still.

What a “gift” – for the 90 modernized T-72M1 (roughly equivalent to these Leopards 2A4), 200 APCs, and 40 long range artillery pieces Czech Republic “gifted” to Ukraine – as commanded by our German and US overlords…

The Czech Republic is a joke. A country completely being mined out of all value by foreign interests.

    • Sorry Barn, but those Leopards at better on their worst day than anything the russians built on their best day. Their reliability, survivability, gunnery and range make them better than the bloody ruskies have or allies for that matter.

  2. I have a better idea. Israel should take 1000 “palestinian” prisoners. Walk them to the top of the temple mount, where the dome on the rock is now, and machine-gun them.
Then demolish the mosque up there.

    • Wow, this is the best idea yet. Unfortunately the Israeli pm and his war cabinet cohorts are yellow bellied lefturds who should be marched up with them. The last people they should allow is Qatar/ moslem brotherhood to be part of this, as of course they are best pals with obast’urd and that is where the pressure is coming from. The terrorists are only going to release 10 at a time but only after they have their 150 female terrorists back. And who knows a) if they will even do that, and b) if any hostages are still alive, as apparently Hamas have said they will need to find the children first. Some may be disguised and or drugged and going south with camouflaged hamas members. Meanwhile they are also receiving more fuel and food.

    • Loki, I would do the 1,000 a day until every last Israeli is accounted for. It is amazing how well that works when dealing with ragheads.

  3. Old people are especially vulnerable to predators

Sweden. A 31-year-old man of non-Western immigrant origin was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. This happened after he raped a mentally disabled woman in her 70s whom he was supposed to care for while working for the city’s home care service in Malmö. The man got the job despite a solid criminal record.

Russia. Two drunk migrants from Uzbekistan attacked an 84-year-old St. Petersburg woman for a bag with money.
Arriving police spoke with the victim. She clarified that the migrant ran up from behind. When the elderly woman found herself on the asphalt, the man stole five thousand rubles ($56)
