Russian Bonds Plummet as Foreign Investors Fear Defaults

Prices of Russian government bonds fell more than 50% Monday as foreign investors grew concerned that Western sanctions would undermine the country’s ability and willingness to pay them back.

Russian 5.25% dollar-denominated bonds due in 2047 were quoted around 30 cents on the dollar, down from 70 the previous trading day and around 100 before Russia invaded Ukraine, according to Advantage Data Inc. Bids for a $2 billion bond that falls due in April dropped to about 50 cents on the dollar from 95.50 late last week.

Moves by the U.S. and European governments to cut off Russian access to the international Swift banking network might prevent the country from distributing payments to bondholders abroad, emerging-markets bond-fund managers said.

Russia’s Ruble Slides Amid Trading Restrictions

Russia’s currency fell and yields on the country’s dollar debt jumped as investors sold what Russian assets they could amid trading restrictions Moscow imposed Monday to limit the fallout on the country’s economy from Western sanctions over the invasion of Ukraine.

The ruble declined 11.6% to about 95 rubles buying a dollar, paring some earlier losses after the central bank enacted a series of measures to arrest the currency’s plunge. The Bank of Russia raised interest rates to 20% early Monday from 9.5%, temporarily banned brokers from handling sales of securities by nonresidents and shuttered the country’s stock market for the day.

War in Ukraine Could Cause Sizable Contraction for Russian Economy, IIF Says

The latest round of economic sanctions by the U.S. and Europe are likely to cause a sizable contraction for Russia’s economy this year, and could prompt bank runs and higher interest rates as the Russian ruble depreciates, the Institute of International Finance predicts.

Elina Ribakova, deputy chief economist at the IIF, said on a call Monday that she expects a contraction of at least 10% in Russia’s gross domestic product and double-digit inflation as a result of the sanctions.

BLM Co-Founder Who Went on Mansion-Buying Spree Complains She’s the ‘Fall Guy’ Over Financial Scandals

Speaking to The Guardian, Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, who went on a mansion-buying spree, claimed that she was the “fall guy” for the organization, “a movement,” she said, that is much bigger than her.

It was in May 2021 that Cullors stepped down as BLM’s executive director. The general public hadn’t heard much from her since then, especially after it was revealed that she spent $6.3 million for a Toronto mansion that formerly belonged to the Communist Party.

Hawley Reiterates Call for Canada to be Placed on Religious Liberty Watch List as Pastor Remains Jailed

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., reiterated his call for Canada to be placed on a special watch list of religious liberty violators as a Canadian pastor continues to be jailed after addressing the Freedom Convoy on the U.S.-Canada border earlier this month.

Speaking to Rebel News at CPAC in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday, Hawley was asked to comment on the ongoing imprisonment of Pastor Artur Pawlowski, a Polish-Canadian pastor who has been held at the Calgary Remand Centre for nearly three weeks after giving a speech to the anti-vaccine mandate Freedom Convoy blockade along the U.S.-Canada border.

“The United States keeps a designation of folks who are religious liberty violators, nations that are religious liberty violators,” Hawley said. “I’ve called for Canada to be put on that list, and I think that we need to consider all of the options that are available for that.”

Jan 6 Rioter Who Stole Pelosi’s Lectern Sentenced

The infamous Jan. 6 rioter who stole House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lectern during the chaotic scene at the Capitol was sentenced Friday by a federal judge.

In presiding over the trial, United States District Judge Reggie Walton reportedly drew a comparison between the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol and the unfolding war in Ukraine. The alleged comparison, used to highlight the severity of the accused’s crime, was directed at the actions of Jan. 6 defendant Adam Johnson, of Florida.

Lest the severity of an attempt to steal Pelosi’s speaking podium be lost on the courtroom audience, the judge made sure his reasoning was clear as he handed down Johnson’s sentence late last week. Walton suggested that the United States was in a clear downslide—a decline that, unless addressed, could create a hostile cultural divide wide enough to rival the conflict in Ukraine.

People’s Convoy Will Continue Its Trek to DC Through Illinois Despite State Police Threatening Legal Actions…

…Supporters of the 100-vehicle convoy slam the state for hypocrisy after troopers cleared path for BLM march

The People’s Convoy will caravan through Illinois on Tuesday despite a harsh warning from state police discouraging protesters and threatening legal action for traffic disruptions.

‘A planned event designed to impede normal traffic flow is dangerous to the innocent motoring public,’ Col. Margaret McGreal, of the ISP Division of Patrol, told WGN.

‘Those who choose to participate in events that intentionally endanger the public and violate Illinois law will be subject to the enforcement of applicable laws and could potentially be held liable for traffic crashes occurring as a result of their actions.’

Kris Young, who is the admin for the group’s Facebook page, reiterated that the convoy will continue it’s route through the Prairie State and along the Dan Ryan Expressway regardless of the warning.

‘We encourage the people of this state to come out and show your support and/or join us!!’ she wrote online.

The People’s Convoy — which embarked from California last week on an 11-day trek to Washington D.C. to protest COVID-19 mask and vaccine mandates — has raised more than $1.5million in donations made through its own website to support drivers as they travel to the capital in a 100-vehicle convoy which stretches 8 miles long…

The largest truck convoy in the United States has grown in size since departing California and is attracting thousands of supporters as it makes its way to the East Coast.

The People’s Convoy started with around 150 vehicles and has grown to over 250 as it made its way through Texas and Oklahoma over the weekend.

More vehicles have joined for stretches of time. That, along with the length of the convoy, makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly how many participants it has.

Canadian Legal Group Sues Trudeau Gov’t for Using Emergencies Act Against Peaceful Freedom Convoy

CALGARY, Alberta (LifeSiteNews) — The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCC) is suing the Canadian federal government on behalf of four Canadians over its “abuse” of using the Emergencies Act (EA) to go after truckers who oppose COVID mandates.

The JCCF said the individuals it is representing in its constitutional challenge include a decorated military veteran and a retired police officer. The JCCF will argue that the EA was “unconstitutional and an excessive use of Executive Power, not authorized by the law in the circumstances.”

“Two of the applicants represented by the Justice Centre had their bank accounts frozen and seized, without judicial authorization or a review process, using laws that normally only apply to terrorists and enemy nations,” said the JCCF in a news release Friday.

Outrageous! How Did an Ex-Tehran Police Chief Allegedly Complicit in Murder Enter Canada for a Holiday?

Do you remember Iranian-Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi?

Back in 2003, for the egregious sin of practicing journalism in Iran’s capital city, Ms. Kazemi was arrested by the Tehran Police and then, while incarcerated, she was subsequently beaten, tortured, raped, and murdered.

Tehran’s Police Chief at the time was Morteza Talaei; previously, he was an officer in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the terrorist group that shot down a Ukranian plane in 2020, killing all 138 passengers plus crew. Of the deceased, 55 were Canadian citizens.

So, you would think someone like Morteza Talaei would top Canada’s Most Wanted List. Apparently, that is either not the case — or Canadian law enforcement and/or the border guards screwed up big time.

That’s because Talaei flew into Canada recently for a little holiday. Indeed, he was spotted working out at a swank Richmond Hill, Ont., gym before buggering off back to Iran.

Germany: Merkel Robbed While Shopping in Berlin

The wallet of Angela Merkel was stolen from her bag while grocery shopping in Berlin on Thursday, local media has reported.

According to the B.Z. news outlet, the former German chancellor had been browsing a delicatessen supermarket in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district on Thursday, when her wallet was swiped from her handbag which had been hanging from the shopping cart.

Merkel had been accompanied by at least one bodyguard from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), however, this had not been sufficient to deter the pickpocket.

The stolen wallet contained Merkel’s ID card, EC card (debit card), driver’s license, and cash.

Berlin authorities confirmed that a 67-year-old woman’s wallet had been stolen in a supermarket on Thursday around 11:40 a.m., but did not elaborate further.

It is understood that Merkel did not alert the police at the time of the incident but subsequently attended the police station on Friedrichstrasse to report the theft herself.

  1. Great to hear that the beloved chancelleresse Merkel had a share of cultural enrichement ( provided the pickpockets were not called Hans and Franz). How dumb are the two bodyguards that were with her? Or were they right minded and looked the other way when this occured?

    • She didn’t get culturally enriched enough for my liking.

Although I doubt even an African would molest that for free. Undoubtedly they would if the price was right.

Since she is too public of a figure to take a flight to Africa like her Swedish counterparts for some cultural mixing she had the orcs brought to Germany instead.

  2. Merkel robbed ………….

They couldnt rob her of her dignity for she has none. So all what was left was her purse.
    Nice one.

  3. Y’know the last time I saw Red Dawn was on TV it led me to think, what makes me think someone defending their own country would not get prosecuted by someone in the future. Aside from common sense, I realized I had no reason to think that and believing in common sense alone eventually leads to an education. So I got one ahead of time. So a person acting in that role is classified as a partisan by international law. If you are captured you can be executed legally by international law standards. If you are part of the military you probably would not be but stuff happens. I am just pointing that out to say in the Ukraine, they should conscript anyone they are handing rifles out to or at least say to them if you surrender, they may execute you.

    • This is doubtful. Rather the opposite. The Russian orcs did not want to lose face until the very end.
I perfectly understand the patriotic mood of the majority of Ukrainians, but unfortunately the reality is that weapons fell into the hands of bad people and there are a lot of cases of looting.
