Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/27/2020

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus, as has his health minister. Meanwhile, thousands of coronavirus test kits ordered by Spain from China do not work. Also, the Turkish government is evacuating migrants from the front, I mean border, with Greece because of the coronavirus.

In other news, Human Rights Watch alleges that Greece has violated EU law by denying migrants the right to apply for asylum.

Disaster Looms as Millions of Americans Set to Lose Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance

With a record 3.3 million people filing for unemployment due to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic — the largest number of claims ever recorded in a single week since October, 1982 — millions of Americans stand to lose their employer-sponsored health insurance when they might need it the most, according to Bloomberg.

Germany and the Netherlands Block Idea of Issuing “Corona Bonds” To Save EU Economy

The European Union is facing the biggest economic challenge of its existence now that nearly all of its member states have largely shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Nine EU countries want the Union to issue joint “corona bonds” to help protect the bloc’s economy and create a form of collectivized debt — but other nations, including some of the bloc’s most powerful members, disagree.

Get Ready for World Money

Since Federal Reserve resources were barely able to prevent complete collapse in 2008, it should be expected that an even larger collapse will overwhelm the Fed’s balance sheet.

That’s exactly the situation we’re facing right now.

The specter of a global debt crisis suggests the urgency for new liquidity sources, bigger than those that central banks can provide. The logic leads quickly to one currency for the planet.

The task of re-liquefying the world will fall to the IMF because the IMF will have the only clean balance sheet left among official institutions. The IMF will rise to the occasion with a towering issuance of special drawing rights (SDRs), and this monetary operation will effectively end the dollar’s role as the leading reserve currency.

[Comment: Create the problem. Get the Reaction. Implement the globalist “solution”.]

Pentagon Fears Foreigners Will Buy Control of US Defense Firms Amid Coronavirus Volatility

With the coronavirus pandemic and the financial crisis that has come with it, the Pentagon is afraid of foreigners investing in and taking control of US defense companies. Pentagon officials are ready to take protective measures against what they call “adversarial capital.” Ellen Lord, the defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, spoke at a news conference on Wednesday. Lord said:

“It is critically important that we understand that during the crisis, the [defense-industrial base] is vulnerable to adversarial capital, so we need to ensure that companies can stay in business without losing their technology.”

Trump: Suicides From the Coming Economic Depression Will Far Surpass Those From the Virus

The mortality rate from COVID-19, which was initially thought to be at five percent, but now seems to be much lower, below one percent.

“This was a medical problem, we’re not going to let it turn into a long-lasting financial problem,” he added, urging Congress to pass the $2 trillion stimulus bill urgently and without partisan politicking, as workers and employees across the U.S. were hurting from lockdowns and quarantines. Although this is already a financial problem for many, as many of the businesses that closed during the lockdown will never reopen, their owners and employees losing their livelihoods for the foreseeable future. That’s hardly a solution. The U.S. economy was not meant to shut down, and the longer it is, the greater the impact will be.

Trump said the administration’s thinking had evolved due to receiving better numbers on the mortality rate from COVID-19, which was initially thought to be at five percent, but now seems to be much lower, below one percent.

Why Washington’s COVID-19 Relief Package Must be Stopped!

The Senate’s $2 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Package is not fiscal stimulus and it’s not a lifeline for the tens of millions of working people who have suddenly lost their jobs. It’s a fundamental restructuring of the US economy designed to strengthen the grip of the corrupt corporate-banking oligarchy while creating a permanent underclass that will be forced to work for slave wages. This isn’t stimulus, it’s shock therapy…

It means that Mnuchin is transforming the US Treasury into a hedge fund. That’s what it means. It means that the Treasury is going to use the $450 billion that is obliquely allocated in the emergency bill, to create a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)—which is a sleazy, off-balance sheet operation that is used to conceal underhanded bookkeeping, that will leverage up by 10x (which means that the Fed will use the $450 billion to borrow tens times more than the original amount or $4.5 trillion) that will be stealthily used to bail out underwater corporations, financial institutions and, yes, banks. (Note—The fairy-tale about “well capitalized banks” is pure bunkum. These guys have serious exposure through “sponsored repo” which is lending to hedge funds via the repo market.) The Fed has already created one SPV for the Commercial Paper market under the Treasury’s Exchange Stabilization Fund (ESF) which is supposed to be used to mitigate volatility in global currency markets, not for bailing out failing corporations. It’s a complete misuse of funds. Unfortunately, targeted suspension of the Sunshine Act will prevent the public from figuring out who is getting money in what amount and for what purpose. This whole scam has been carefully worked out right down to legal provisions preventing transparency.

By the way, Mnuchin’s personal bio is worth reviewing. According to Senator Ron Wyden:

Biden Supporters Face #MeToo reckoning After Sexual Assault Accusation Emerges

When it came to the fate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, a credible sexual assault allegation alone, even absent any evidence or corroboration, was enough for most Democrats to cry “believe women” and demand the Senate reject Kavanaugh’s nomination. Now that it’s Joe Biden who faces a similar sexual assault allegation, Democrats must hold their party’s presumptive nominee to the same standard — or reveal themselves as cynical hypocrites once and for all.

A former Biden staffer who worked in his Senate offices in the early 1990s, Tara Reade, has come forward to accuse him of sexually assaulting her in 1993, as reported by Reason‘s Robby Soave. Reade claims that Biden forcibly kissed her and reached into her pants to penetrate her while pushing her against a wall. She says fear of retaliation kept her from speaking out until now.

Of course, conservatives for consistency’s sake must insist that Biden deserves fair due process, and allegations alone are not sufficient evidence to brand a man a sexual assaulter and torpedo his reputation and career. But for Biden’s most prominent Democratic supporters, they’re in quite a tough bind due to the deeply illiberal, guilty-by-accusation precedent they set during the Kavanaugh affair.

COVID-19 Versus American Resilience

Too many Americans can see through the attempted government takeover on all levels that is being ushered in by the coronavirus “crisis.”

As was done under the Obama administration, Congress is using the cover of an emergency to force through unnecessary regulations. The pandemic emergency doesn’t reach a fraction of the annual flu season numbers that has already contributed to the deaths of some 22,000 in the United States alone. And the CDC projects that up to 55,000 could succumb before the year is out.

Edward Snowden’s Warning: Surveillance Measures Will Outlast the Pandemic

Edward Snowden has a warning for those who are giving up liberty for a false sense of security: the temporary mass surveillance measures put in place will be anything but temporary. Snowden says that these measures are not worth giving up even more liberty.

Nothing is so permanent as a temporary government program, and infamous whistleblower Edward Snowden is sounding the alarms about the Orwellian mass surveillance that will long outlast this coronavirus pandemic.

The former CIA contractor, whose leaks exposed the scale of spying programs in the United States, is warning that once this tech is taken out of the box, it will be hard to put it back. “When we see emergency measures passed, particularly today, they tend to be sticky,” Snowden said in an interview with the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival.

The emergency tends to be expanded. Then the authorities become comfortable with some new power. They start to like it.

Power corrupts. It always has and always will. But people have become comfortable with government officials ruling over them, stealing their money, and telling them what to do. We’ve been transformed into the government’s slaves, and Snowden says it’s only going to get worse.

Lori Loughlin, College Admissions Scandal Parents Urge Judge to Drop Charges

BOSTON — “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin, her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, and other prominent parents urged a judge Wednesday to dismiss charges against them in the college admissions bribery case, accusing prosecutors of “extraordinary” misconduct.

Defense attorneys for the famous couple and other parents still fighting the charges say the case cannot stand because investigators bullied their informant into lying and then concealed evidence that would bolster the parents’ claims of innocence.

New York Imam: Coronavirus Comes From Women Showing Too Much Ankle

(PJ MEDIA) Amid all the controversy over where the coronavirus comes from (don’t you dare call it the “Chinese Virus,” a la “Spanish Flu,” that would be racist, and to be racist is worse than the virus itself) and what should be done about it, a Muslim cleric in Syracuse, NY., has found the key; thousands of people are being infected, many are dying, and America is teetering on the edge of economic collapse because American women are showing too much ankle.

Don’t laugh. Laughing would be “Islamophobic,” and Khadar Bin Muhammad, the imam of the Masjid Bilal Ibn Rabah in Syracuse, is not making a joke. In a video posted on YouTube last week and reposted by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), the learned imam explains it all for us.

NPR Station is Censoring Donald Trump as MSM Pushes Totalitarian Propaganda

A Seattle-based NPR station has stated that it will no longer be airing President Donald Trump’s coronavirus briefings because of “misinformation.” As we’ve learned over the past several years, misinformation is simply the information they don’t want you to hear.

So what is the “misinformation” Trump has been saying? Obviously things the mainstream media wants to avoid, like asking people to remain calm, look at the objective facts and statistics about the pandemic and stop playing into the fear-mongering of the mainstream media. Fear has boosted mainstream media’s ratings in the past few weeks, adding to their profits. Reopening the economy means people would be at work or at least out doing things instead of watching the panic-laced headlines scroll across the TV.

The Offensiveness of Taking Political Offense

Not long ago, in the course of an acrimonious debate over one radical “gun-control” bill under consideration in the 2020 session of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia, a Republican Senator charged that “[e]very legislator that votes in favor of this bill is, in my opinion, a traitor to Virginia, a traitor to the Second Amendment, and traitor to our constitutional freedoms”. In response, a Democratic Senator intoned that “I would like her to know that I am deeply offended that she has accused anyone on this floor of treason”. See , at 5.

Unfortunately, the Democratic Senator’s rejoinder was typical of a dismissive attitude towards political opposition which has become all too common these days: namely, that if the target of some criticism simply denounces it as subjectively “offensive” to her (or him), there is no need for her (or him) actually to refute it objectively by reference to matters of fact, by citations of rules of law, or even by appeals to the principles of logic. “Because I feel personally offended at what you say, you are wrong simply for saying it!” is supposed to suffice. The Democratic Senator would have done better, however, to have swallowed her “offense” until she had perused the relevant law…

Of course, “any speech or debate in either house” of Virginia’s General Assembly is absolutely privileged, because politicians’ mere words, even when they propose or endorse “treason”, are unlikely to harm anyone. And free and open debate—even, perhaps especially, when the speakers are half-witted legislators—is the best means to expose bad ideas for what they really are. But a legislator’s act of voting for a bill which, when enacted, imposes the baneful effects of “treason” on its subjects must itself be “treasonous”.

True enough, rogue legislators will always avoid enforcing such an ersatz “law” in the field with their own hands. Instead, they will despatch armed myrmidons to do their dirty work.

University of Michigan Officials Can be Held Personally Liable for Violating Accused Student’s Rights: Judge

UPDATED

Ignored court orders to allow cross-examination in Title IX hearings

The University of Michigan’s refusal to recognize an accused student’s “clearly established due process rights” led a federal judge to deny its administrators “qualified immunity” in the student’s lawsuit.

Senior U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow went much further, declaring the school’s 2018 Title IX policy unconstitutional and an element of the “interim” policy that replaced it unconstitutional.

Wake Up! Your Fears Are Being Manipulated

The first cases of the swine flu, H1N1, appeared in April 2009. By the time Obama finally declared a national emergency seven months later, the CDC was reporting that 50 million Americans, one in six people, had been infected, and 10,000 Americans had died. In the early months, Obama had no HHS secretary or appointees to the department’s 19 key posts, as well as no commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, no surgeon general, no CDC director. The vacancy at the CDC was especially important because in the early days of the crisis, only they could test for the virus (sound familiar?). Yet some 66 percent of Americans thought the president was protecting them. There was no panic. Why?

Of course, Trump isn’t Obama. But if you really think it is that black and white, that one man makes that much difference in the multi-leveled response of the vast federal government, you don’t know much about bureaucracy. Most of the people who handled the swine flu are now working the coronavirus, from the rank and file at CDC, HHS, and DHS to headliners like Drs. Andrew Fauci (in government since 1968, worked ebola) and Deborah Brix (in government since 1985, prior to corona was an Obama AIDS appointee).

Welcome to the War on Death

According to The New York Times, the Coronapocalypse has begun in Elmhurst, where the authorities have called in the refrigerator trucks to haul away the mountains of corpses, after 13 people who “had tested positive” died (of something) in the course of one day. The rest of the corporate media are running moment-by-moment deathometer updates, apocalyptic prognostications of the millions or billions who are possibly going to die, and of course the latest on which celebrities have been infected and are clinging to life, or experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms, or absolutely no symptoms whatsoever.

Will We Allow the ‘Main Stream Media’ To Win?

Mainstream media. That would be ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, assorted others on the boob tube, electronic and print newspapers and web sites that for many decades have shown their glaring bias against everything America, constitutionalists, conservatives, people of faith and the U.S. Constitution.

Along came Donald Trump and their disgraceful duplicity kicked into over drive. Like Trump or not he’s the only president in my lifetime to take on the media. He makes them eat dirt every day. They lie to the American people outright on the nightly news, in their newspapers and on their web sites. Their daily wet dream is to destroy Trump and all he’s trying to accomplish for the American people.

How do they get away with lying on an hourly basis? It’s Legal for the Media to Lie to You

“In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States. That’s right. It’s legal for the mainstream media to lie to you.

Mosque Follows Lockdown Order (But What’s With That Flag?)

At a Thornhill, Ontario mosque, the call for social distancing is apparently being respected. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the flag of Canada.

I recently dropped by the Imam Mahdi Islamic Centre. This was the place of worship targeted by some members of the Persian community and others last month who allege that the people who run this mosque and those who attend services here are pro-Iranian regime.

(You may recall that I covered this peaceful protest of that took place entirely on a public sidewalk; even so, the people in charge of the mosque called the York Regional Police Service. And of course, the police responded en masse, because even a falsified charge of “Islamophobia” is a calling-all-cars crisis even though some of the protesters were Muslims themselves. But I digress…)

80% of Russia’s Coronavirus Aid to Italy ‘Useless’ — La Stampa

Around 80% of the coronavirus supplies that Russia has sent to Italy are “useless,” the country’s La Stampa daily reported Wednesday, citing high-level political sources.

Russia sent 600 ventilators and 100 military virologists and epidemiologists to Italy following talks between President Vladimir Putin and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte last Saturday. Footage of Russian military trucks en route from Rome to the coronavirus epicenter of Bergamo circulated online this week.

“Eighty percent of Russian supplies are totally useless or of little use to Italy. In short, this is little more than a pretext,” an unnamed source told La Stampa.

Coronavirus: Italy Registers Record Rise of 969 Deaths

COVID-19 infections up 4,401 to 66,414

(ANSA) — Rome, March 27 — The civil protection agency said Friday that 9,134 people have died with the coronavirus in Italy, 969 up on the number given on Thursday.

It is the highest daily rise in deaths anywhere in the world since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, although around 50 of the deaths were cases carried over after not being included in Thursday’s data.

The previous daily high was the 793 deaths reported in Italy on Saturday. The department said 66,414 people are currently infected with the coronavirus in Italy, 4,401 up on Thursday. That compared to Thursday’s daily rise of 4,492.

It said 10,950 people have now recovered from the coronavirus in Italy, up 589 in 24 hours. On Thursday the daily rise was 999.

The overall number of people to have been infected in Italy, including the deceased and the recovered, is now 86,498.

That means Italy has overtaken China, which is steady on 81,897 cases.

Italy has also overtaken the USA’s 86,102 infections, John Hopkins University said Friday.

As the coronavirus pandemic rages through Europe — where more than 250,000 people have now been diagnosed with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and 15,000 have died — the foundational pillars of the European Union are crumbling one by one.

Coronavirus Explosion in Welsh Region Resembles Italy ‘Pattern’, UK Daily Deaths Break 100

The British coronavirus death toll has risen to 578, seeing its biggest daily increase with 115 coronavirus fatalities in 24 hours — and an explosion of cases in Gwent, Wales.

All told there were 11,658 confirmed cases in the United Kingdom as of Thursday.

The United Kingdom is thought to be approximately two weeks behind Italy in the severity of its coronavirus outbreak — but the health chief in Wales is worried that one region in the country is following “the same pattern as Italy”.

Gwent in south Wales has seen 309 confirmed cases of the Chinese virus — almost half of the total 628 infections in the British home nation — which has made the Welsh county the second worst-affected region after London, taking over from the West Midlands in England, according to The Times.

One-Worlders Exploit Pandemic for Global Government

Since “climate change” has not ushered in world government, the global health crisis will have to do. Hence, Greta Thunberg has announced it’s “extremely likely” she has had coronavirus. She wasn’t tested but quickly recovered, she says. Now, we are told, the world has to come together to create a global government financed by global taxes to deal with future pandemics.

“Gordon Brown calls for global government to tackle coronavirus” is the British Guardian headline over a story about the former Labor prime minister.

Globalist organizations led by the World Federalists are leading the charge. This year, however, they think the timing is on their side. Their “UN2020” movement is taking advantage of this year being the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. They believe the coronavirus can be exploited to get the nations of the world united behind the push for “another, better path for humanity.”

Their “plan of action,” as set forth in a draft of their “People’s Declaration,” is unfolding mostly behind-the-scenes as the 75th anniversary of the United Nations “provides a much-needed opportunity for system-wide stocktaking, strengthening and renewal.”

Caroline Glick: Israel and the Demise of the Global Village

In the face of the steeply rising number of coronavirus patients and the breakneck speed of political changes in Israel, few people have stopped to notice that the world we have grown accustomed to living in for the past generation is falling apart. The global village is collapsing under the weight of the pandemic.

How Israel deals with this dramatic turn of events today, and in the coming weeks, months and years will determine both how we emerge from the present crisis and how we manage in the new world now taking form.

Israel’s food supply system is a perfect example of the global changes to being wrought by the virus. In Israel, five basic foodstuffs are produced locally: fruits, vegetables, eggs, poultry and milk. Most grains, sugar, rice, salt, meat and other foodstuffs are imported.

Out of a total agricultural workforce of 70,000, 25,000 are migrant workers from Thailand and another 25,000 are from the Palestinian Authority. According to Agriculture Minister Tzachi Hanegbi, concerns over the coronavirus prevented 1,500 workers from Thailand scheduled to arrive at the beginning of the month from entering the country. The Palestinian workforce is down to 18,000 and dropping due to the quarantine the PA has placed on its population.

The labor shortages couldn’t come at a worse time. Currently there are a half billion shekels worth of fruit and vegetables ready for harvest. If they aren’t picked in the next three weeks, they will rot on the trees and in the fields.

Three weeks ago, the HaShomer HaHadash organization began getting flooded with calls from farmers for help. HaShomer HaHadash is a volunteer agricultural support organization founded in 2007 to protect Israeli farmers from Arab and Bedouin criminal gangs who extort farmers and ranchers and carry out agricultural theft and sabotage on a massive level.

“These calls were different,” explains HaShomer HaHadash’s leader Yoel Zilberman. “We are used to receiving calls about sabotage, and extortion and sending our volunteers to guard and herd. These calls were about the harvest, the national food supply.”…

Reports were from local media and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which noted that the cities of Qamishli, Hasake, Derbasiye, Amuda and Ayn Arab/Kobane were mostly deserted on Tuesday morning. Local media meanwhile reported that healthcare workers from the various municipalities of the region — which for years has been under de facto autonomous control and not under the Damascus government — are disinfecting public places, markets, schools and hospitals. There have not officially been any cases of COVID-19 recorded in the area but the healthcare system is unable to do any sort of systematic testing to see if there are any.

NGO Accuses Greek Government of Violating Migrants’ Human Rights

The New York-based non-governmental agency Human Rights Watch has charged Greece with violating European Union law by denying migrants the right to apply for asylum.

At the end of February, Turkish President Recep Erdogan announced that his government would no longer stop migrants who are camped in Turkey from attempting to illegally cross the Turkish-Greek border. Since then, the Greek security forces, being reinforced by police from other parts of Europe, have been besieged by tens of thousands of migrants attempting to violently break through the border fence, in some cases even being aided by the Turkish police, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.

2)Turkey Evacuates Hundreds of Migrants From Greek Border Amid Virus Pandemic.

Yes,Turkey withdrew this mob(they were from Turkmenistan) and “dear Sultan Erdo” promised he is going to send 30000 convicts recently released from his prisons.

I do not know what is more dangerous,Erdo or the virus.
    We have both.

    • There is serious resistance to Erdo in Turkey. Not so much in the EU. I wonder why that is? Affirmative action?

    • The virus to replenish populations. Maybe the US would wipe out Erdo in short order to renew a sector or two of the economy etcetera.

  3. I don’t see how any manufacturer can easily switch over to making medical supplies. Many medical equipment parts are made with plastic and injection molded. Where are the molds going to come from?

  4. The western EU members need to get very seriously masculine – and very seriously soon. Ladies Day is a disaster. Maybe Sweden would give her refuge. Apparently she couldn’t organise a pup in a pandemic.

  5. That’s one way to enforce a lockdown!
