Facebook Ban on Alex Jones and Others is a Form of Modern-Day Book Burning
When social media platforms simultaneously banned Alex Jones last summer, I wrote that the decision was merely a “warning shot against dissent.” The latest Facebook bans against more conservative figures proves that point.
Facebook, citing company policies on “hate organizations,” has now banned Infowars, Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, and Louis Farrakhan, among others. If that was not bad enough, now even merely posting a link to Infowars content could get you in trouble, too.
When I criticized the earlier bans against Jones, I prefaced it by saying that I was not a fan, lest anyone assume my words were tantamount to an endorsement of his content or opinions. But there should be no need for such a semi-apologetic disclaimer. This is straight-up censorship and it should be condemned, regardless of anyone’s personal feelings toward the targets.
The initial ban on Jones was an attempt to test the waters; to see how people might react to a popular figure being wiped from social media existence. When establishment journalists whooped and cheered in celebration, Facebook (and the rest) were emboldened. Consequently, we are now sliding down the slippery slope of internet censorship at frighteningly quick pace — and they are still cheering. Most news reports on the new ban have framed it positively as Facebook ‘taking action’ and finally doing the right thing.

Half the Earth’s Oceans May Have Come From Asteroids

Man Arrested, Facing a Year in Prison for Telling Police They Are ‘Pissing on the Constitution’
Warning that the government must not be given the power to criminalize speech it deems distasteful or annoying, The Rutherford Institute has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the prosecution of a Texas man who faces up to one year in jail and a $4000 fine for sending emails to police criticizing them for failing to respond to his requests for assistance. In an amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court, Rutherford Institute attorneys argue that the prosecution of Scott Ogle for sending complaints to a sheriff’s office, including one email stating that officials were “pissing” on the Constitution, violates the First Amendment’s safeguards for freedom of speech and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Moreover, Institute attorneys argue that the Texas law under which Ogle was charged, which makes it a crime to send “annoying,” “alarming” or “harassing” electronic messages, is so overbroad that it could be used to punish a negative review of a restaurant posted online or caustic Facebook posts.

Media Bias/Fact Check: Part of a Larger Operation to Destroy Alternative Media
While doing research for a Newsbud video, I came across the Media Bias/Fact Check (MBFC) website. This is one of a growing number of “fact checking” websites designed to discredit news websites not following official narratives closely enough.
Here’s what the site has to say about Newsbud and my participation:
Newsbud (NB) is a right wing, conspiracy and anti-government site founded by, among others, Kurt Nimmo, the former lead editor and writer for Infowars. What sets NB apart from other sites of this type is that the stories are, for the most part, well written and contain numerous sources. The bias of the writing is also more subtle than sites such as Infowars, but just as prevalent. Both as an overtone to all the stories as well as the sometimes questionable sources and / or the conclusions drawn from the source material. Additionally, many of their sources are other NB stories, or work the author and editors have done elsewhere.
MBFC imparts misinformation in the first sentence. If it had done appropriate research, its ideologically driven checkers would have discovered Newsbud was established by Sibel Edmonds. I was invited to participate after the website was established and I am not a founder, as MBFC claims.

A national Muslim group says it will conduct an investigation into an event at a Philadelphia Islamic center last month during which a group of youngsters sang songs it said were not “properly vetted,” calling that “an unintended mistake and an oversight.”

Felix Kjellberg, a.k.a PewDiePie, has seemingly exposed the truth about how YouTube’s trending tab actually works. In the latest issue of his PewNews, the vlogger reviewed footage showing YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki promising rapper Juice Wrld artificial growth for his channel on 1 May.

Trump Pardons Ex-U.S. Soldier Who Killed Iraqi Prisoner
President Donald Trump has pardoned a former U.S. soldier convicted in 2009 of killing an Iraqi prisoner, the White House announced Monday.
Trump signed an executive grant of clemency, a full pardon, for former Army 1st Lt. Michael Behenna, of Oklahoma, press secretary Sarah Sanders said.
Behenna was convicted of unpremeditated murder in a combat zone after killing a suspected al-Qaida terrorist in Iraq. He was paroled in 2014 and had been scheduled to remain on parole until 2024.
A military court had sentenced Behenna to 25 years in prison. However, the Army’s highest appellate court noted concern about how the trial court had handled Behenna’s claim of self-defense, Sanders said. The Army Clemency and Parole Board also reduced his sentence to 15 years and paroled him as soon as he was eligible…

Now, U.S. Congressman Lee Zeldin (R-NY) is calling on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to stop allowing Hamas to use Twitter as a propaganda arm in their war against Israel. Zeldin tweeted: Hey @Jack, Since this tweet??, Hamas has launched over 400 rockets into Israel killing innocent victims, including a 1 year old child. You’re running a US company, providing an immensely valuable propaganda tool to a known terrorist organization killing people in real time.

Next Up for the Trudeau Liberals: A Plastic Tax?
It hasn’t even been a month since Ottawa imposed its hated carbon tax on much of the country and lo and behold, it already has another new tax on the table.
Last year, Environment Canada commissioned accounting firm Deloitte to undertake a study of Canada’s $35 billion plastics industry. The resulting report, released earlier this month, noted that only 9 per cent of plastics are recycled.
Unsurprisingly, the report goes on to propose various ideas to improve the rate of recycling, such as (on page 22) a “tax or fee on virgin resins.” Those resins are used to make new plastics. Why a new tax? Because according to the report, it would “make secondary plastic more economically appealing to manufacturers.”
Translation: the government is thinking about promoting recycling by punishing people for buying products made from new plastic. Ottawa thinks it’s a problem that new plastics are less expensive than old plastics and the solution is to make everything expensive. What could be the downside of making everything expensive?

(ANSA) — Viterbo, May 6 — A 22-year-old American of South Korean origin was arrested at the weekend for allegedly beating a Viterbo shopkeeper to death with a stool after his credit card was rejected for the umpteenth time.
Michael Aaron Pang was arrested on suspicion of murdering the owner of the clothes shop in the historical centre of the town north of Rome, Norveo Fedeli.
Pang was allegedly caught on CCTV beating Fedeli after a row over a few clothes.

Norway to Revoke Residency Permits of Those Affiliated With Islamic State
Norwegian Minister of Justice Jøran Kallmyr has announced that the country will be revoking all residency permits granted to individuals who left Norway to go and fight or join the Islamic State in the Middle East.
The minister gave the order to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) to withdraw the permits saying that only those with Norwegian citizenship would be allowed to step foot in the country, Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang reports.

Young imams are being trained in a network of Islamic schools across the UK that have been accused of promoting intolerance and misogyny, a secret Government report has warned.
The report claims preachers emerging from some of the dozens of Darul Uloom madrasas scattered across Britain have views as extreme as those held by radical clerics who move to the UK from Islamic countries — and may spread them to worshippers.
The Mail on Sunday has identified 48 Darul Ulooms — which can be translated as House of Knowledge — that follow a strict syllabus called Dars-E-Nizami.

Study Shows Sense of Touch Arises in the Brain Before Birth
A team of researchers at the Institute of Neurosciences of Alicante of the ISIC in Spain has found that the sense of touch arises in the brain before birth—at least in mice. In their paper published in the journal Science, the group outlines their study of the embryonic stages of the development of the brain in mice and what they learned from it.
The development of a sense of touch has been studied by scientists for many years, but how it develops is still unclear. Prior research has shown that once it has developed, it exists as a sort of map imprinted on the cerebral cortex. Some have suggested that a basic map is created in the brain before birth and data points for it are added as newborns develop—sensory input from various body parts is simply added to the map. But now, that view might have to change, as the team in Spain reports evidence that suggests the map is already in place by the time a baby is born…
In looking at their results, the researchers found that the sensory map created to process the sense of touch was built while the mice were still embryos. And it developed due to signals sent to the cerebral cortex by the thalamus, which also plays a major role in relaying synaptic information throughout the life of the mouse. The researchers suggest that it is likely the same process occurs in humans because “the organization of the cortex is conserved evolutionarily between species.”

The Increasingly Narrow, Parochial Prism of Journalism
Last month, immediately after fire had almost destroyed the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, the Washington Post ran a piece with the headline, “The Notre Dame fire ignites the West’s far-right.” The author, Ishaan Tharoor, used his piece to expand on that untimely and inaccurate claim. He wrote:
“A strange — though not altogether surprising — thing happened in the shadow of Monday’s tragedy. As many around the world watched an iconic cathedral in Paris go up in flames, others immediately set about trying to spark new fires. On both sides of the Atlantic, denizens of the far right took to social media to grind their culture-warring axes, locating in the calamity a parable for the political moment — or, at least, their understanding of it.”

Turkey Cancels Istanbul Election Won by Opposition
Ruling AKP says balloting was marred by fraud and irregularities, but outraged mayor’s party calls situation a matter of wanting to preserve control
ISTANBUL—Turkey’s national election board canceled results of the Istanbul mayoral race that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party lost five weeks ago and ordered a rerun, sparking outrage in opposition ranks and fueling investor concerns over heightened economic volatility.
Ruling on complaints filed by Mr. Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party, or AKP, the election board said a new vote was necessary because fraud and irregularities had material influence on the March 31 results in Istanbul. The ruling is final and can’t be challenged in court.

A weightlifting league has revoked awards to a transgender weightlifter who claimed to have broken several women’s weightlifting records.
“Our rules, and the basis of separating genders for competition, are based on physiological classification rather thana identification,” said a statement from Paul Bossi, president of 100% RAW Powerlifting Federation. Bossi continued:

Maya Forstater made a series of seemingly straightforward comments about gender, which caused her to lose her job at the Centre for Global Development.
