Gates of Vienna News Feed 3/31/2019

In the last two days London has been terrorized by one or more attackers who viciously stabbed people in the back. Authorities believe the victims were chosen at random. Two men have been arrested, and police say they are thought to be lone wolves who have mental health issues.

In other news, Italy has passed a new self-defense law backed by Matteo Salvini. It will allow citizens to use firearms to defend themselves against home invasions without having to fear prosecution.

The New Minimum Wage is Killing NYC’s Once-Thriving Restaurant Scene

New York City restaurants are eliminating jobs, reducing employee hours and raising prices due to the higher costs of the $15/hour minimum wage.

A once-growing industry is contracting, according to an online survey conducted by the New York City Hospitality Alliance, an association representing restaurants in the city.

Last year, “full-service restaurants recorded a 1.6 percent job loss, which is the first recorded annual loss in two decades,” said Andrew Rigie, executive director of the trade group.

Approximately 34% of attendees at President Trump’s Thursday night rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan were registered Democrats, according to Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale.

Speaking on Saturday with Fox News‘ Jesse Watters, Parscale explained that the campaign uses the phone numbers of attendees to look up their voter information.

“We had tens of thousands of registrants, I believe 34% of the people who came to the Michigan rally were Democrats,” said Parscale, adding “Almost half had only voted once in the last four elections.”

Former NSA Contractor Pleads Guilty After Stealing 300 Times as Much Data as Snowden

Harold Thomas Martin III entered a guilty plea at U.S. District Court in Baltimore on Thursday, admitting his role in what could be the worst breach of classified data in U.S. history.

The severity of the breach is measured in terms of how much information Martin looted from the systems he had access to. Fortunately, he does not appear to have done anything with the data he took. His defense lawyers characterized him as a data hoarder, a victim of compulsive mental illness who piled up classified files and sensitive documents the way other hoarders accumulate newspapers or clothes.

After Martin was arrested in 2016, there was speculation he might have been a “whistleblower” in the Edward Snowden mode who lost his nerve, or he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after his deployment in Operation Desert Storm. Suspicions have been raised that he worked with or inspired the “Shadow Brokers,” an infamous hacker group that exposed some of the powerful software tools the National Security Agency (NSA) used for penetrating foreign computer systems.

As is perhaps inevitable with any case touching upon the shadowy world of cyber espionage, there are many theories about his alarming behavior and the curiously low-key processing of his case — which began with a huge FBI raid compared by eyewitnesses to a military invasion but has received little media attention since.

Martin wound up sitting on about 50 terabytes of data that never should have left the offices he took it from, a hoard prosecutors described as “breathtaking” in scope but rather sloppy in execution, as some of the pilfered material was reportedly stuffed into his car and an unlocked shed in his backyard.

[Comment: This is the danger of outsourcing. Such companies only hire the technically proficient — even if mental stability or loyalty is in question. Screening of potential applicants should weed out those who are have questionable loyalty even if they have superb at technical skills.]

Ilhan Omar Has a New Target… White Americans

On Thursday, the Somali-Muslim immigrant turned US lawmaker, Ilhan Omar (D-MN) tweeted about the abhorrent and inhumane conditions on our border. In her tweet, Omar, who has been criticized by both parties for making multiple anti-Semitic remarks, blames “white nationalism” for the overflowing detention centers on our border. For now, Omar has given up on her hateful rhetoric aimed at Jews and at Israel, as she focuses on a new target—white people living in America.

According to the US Congresswoman, any white American who believes we are a nation of laws and that those laws should be upheld, especially when it comes to a foreign invasion on our southern border, is a “white nationalist.”

Key Greenland Glacier Growing Again After Shrinking for Years, NASA Story Shows

WASHINGTON — A major Greenland glacier that was one of the fastest shrinking ice and snow masses on Earth is growing again, a new NASA study finds.

The Jakobshavn glacier around 2012 was retreating about 1.8 miles and thinning nearly 130 feet annually. But it started growing again at about the same rate in the past two years, according to a study in Monday’s Nature Geoscience. Study authors and outside scientists think this is temporary.

No Business is Safe From the Left’s Ignorance & Envy

The late Darryl Royal once explained the problem with cockroaches, “It’s not what they eat and tote off, it’s what they fall into and mess up.”

That pretty much sums up the left’s impact on economics. Recently the most visible example was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s attack on Amazon’s plans for a New York City headquarters. The ignorant but passionate congresswoman opposed the project because the company is owned by the world’s richest man and the deal was rife with crony capitalism.

HH’s crackpot theories on the market and competition are nothing new as Bernie, AOC and Fauxcahontas demonstrate. What’s new is the platform she’s given to share the ignorance. If ‘The Nation’ or ‘In These Times’ had profiled her fight against dollar deodorant, mouthwash and Mentos it would’ve been no surprise.

The Democrat Leninist Revolution is Here

By Rich Logis

The Democratic Party’s Leninist fundamental transformation is near complete.

It was November 6 and 7, 1917 when Lenin and his Russian Bolsheviks led a coup d’état against the Duma’s provisional government.

The parallels between the Bolshevik takeover, which begat the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and the über-leftward turn of the Democratic Party are impossible to ignore. Lenin and the Bolsheviks did not significantly differ ideologically from the Romanov monarchical dynasty they ended with their takeover, or from the Mensheviks, from whom the Bolsheviks spilt in 1903, just as the new Democrats don’t differ much from the old Democrats.

In the lead-up to Lenin’s hijacking, the various Russian factions all sold iterations of socialism, democratic socialism, and communism. These —isms, at their core, are mostly the same. Lenin sold a revolutionary narrative of a proletariat revolt, in which the political power rests with the peasants and workers, which would evolve into socialism — equal social ownership of all produced by the workers.

Like any collectivist promise, it was all a colossal lie. What Lenin intentionally established was the Communist Party dictatorship, which lasted seven decades. It is, in principle, the same lie propagated by America’s Democratic Party and its “democratic socialists.” Socialists don’t actually believe in the socialism they peddle, just as the Rolls-Royce-owning Lenin didn’t believe in the Leninism he peddled. They believe that only everyone else should live under their oppression.

[Comment: Excellent article. A must read warning, especially for Americans.]

The Media Must Face Consequences for the Russia Hoax

So, the Mueller report finally dropped and lo-and-behold, the most obvious hoax in recent history turned out to be a hoax. For all of Trump’s faults, collusion and obstruction aren’t among them.

The various excuses by those who perpetuated this fraud have been fascinating to behold. Many of the poor souls who fell for this farce hold out hope. Others who perpetuated continue to double down. Mother Jones, for example, says that despite Mueller’s findings, “Trump and his gang betrayed the United States in the greatest scandal in American history.” Many others are demanding we #ReleaseTheFullMuellerReport because obviously this is only the “Barr Report.” #NeverTrump neocon Jennifer Rubin, for example, has a pinned tweet stating “It would behoove the media to point out it is FALSE that Mueller exonerated Trump of obstruction. The report explicitly said that, as Barr quoted. BARR exonerated Trump which is ridiculous.”

Ridiculous, I tell you!

Others have shifted their attention to the Southern District of New York as if this whole charade didn’t even happen. Others are downplaying the results as if the Democrats, neocons and former intelligence officials weren’t yelling “treason, treason, treason” for years now. I’ll remind you that Time magazine had a frontpage cover of the Kremlin merging with the White House!

Former CIA director John Brennan (who engaged in illegal torture, illegally spied on the Senate when they were investigating that and then perjured himself about it), blithely opined that “I suspected there was more than there actually was.” No big deal, right John?

This is the same guy who called Trump a “traitor” and confidently predicted there would be more indictments.

There is Mysterious ‘Undocumented Technology’ Hidden on Intel Computer Chips

Computer experts have claimed that the chips which power most of the computers in the world are hiding mysterious and ‘undocumented’ technology. Analysts from Positive Technologies alleged that Intel chips and processors contain an enigmatic ‘logic signal analyser’ capable of reading ‘almost all data on a computer’. The claims are likely to alarm conspiracy theorists…

The analyser was discovered in the Platform Controller Hub (PCH) on Intel motherboards as well as the main processor itself. Together, these parts of the computer serve as its ‘brain’. It’s called VISA and can potentially allow hackers or spies to access the information stored in the computer memory as well as the information generated by ‘peripherals’ — the name for computer accessories which could include anything from a webcam to a mouse. The VISA technology was believed to be used to check Intel microchips for flaws, but Positive Technologies suggested it could also be used to ‘capture and analyse’ data.

America Eyes on Italy to Fight the EU

From Washington D.C. — A new relationship is developing between Washington D.C. and Rome. The Five Star Movement and the League’s victory was brought about by the same establishment that Donald Trump fought against during his campaign. Both countries now have governments intent on protecting their national interests. As a result, Italy and the United States also share important strategic goals.

They both oppose mass migration and Brussels’s current hegemony in Europe. However, on foreign policy, the two countries’ policies don’t necessarily align. We travelled to America’s capital city, Washington D.C., to speak to journalists and analysts from the White House’s perspective, to understand what this American presidency thinks about Europe and Italy’s new anti-establishment government…

Brexit’s Message to European Union

With the Brexit saga’s denouement still uncertain, the European Union would do well to re-examine its performance as a daring experience in socio-political engineering on a grand scale. Even if, as expected, the United Kingdom somehow manages to fudge Brexit and remain tied to the EU, the fact remains that millions of Brits and other Europeans are unhappy with aspects of the experience.

The first problem with the EU is that, though it is called a union, it isn’t really one. To be sure it has a flag, an anthem, a parliament, a council of ministers, and even pseudo-embassies in many countries, but despite such trappings of a state, the EU is essentially an economic club; not a state.

[Comment: However, the EU aims to be a super-state.]

Italy: M5S Come Out Against Rapist Castration

Reject Salvini proposal

(ANSA) — Rome, March 28 — The 5-Star Movement (M5S) on Thursday came out against the idea of chemically castrating rapists as proposed by their government partner, League leader and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, on Wednesday.

“We don’t take the mickey out of women,” M5S sources said. “The amendment tries to fool women, exploiting their fears to wage an election campaign”.

Deputy Premier Salvini on Wednesday called for chemical castration to be brought in as a punishment after three people were arrested for the gang rape of young foreign woman in Catania last week. “No leniency for the worms who raped a tourist in Catania,” Salvini said. “Chemical castration!”.

Health Minister Giulia Grillo, a member of the M5S, said Thursday approving chemical castration was “impossible”.

She said “I’m health minister and also a doctor so I can’t be in favour of a measure that reduces the psycho-physical integrity of a person”.

Italy: ‘Real Shakespeare Was Sicilian’ — Show

‘John Florio was real author’

(ANSA) — Palermo, March 25 — Three researchers have claimed that Sicilian linguist, lexicographer and royal language tutor John Florio (1553-1625) is the real author of William Shakespeare’s work — a theory that is being turned into a television show by Italian filmmaker Stefano Reali.

Reali is currently working on the show, which is produced in Spain.

The three Anglicists — Corrado Panzeri, Saul Gerevini and Giulia Harding — say Florio fled Messina due to the Inquisition and travelled to London, where he was hosted by Henry Wriothesley, the third Count of Southampon together with a young actor, Will of Stratford, and both lived in the same castle.

The show in production focuses on the theory that Florio used his father’s immense erudition and the protection of the powerful aristocrat as an author.

It also investigates a meeting between Great Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes at a Messina hospital after the author of Don Quixote had been wounded in the battle of Lepanto against the Turks.

Italy: Revolt at the Osservatore Romano, The Women Editors Leave. Monda’s Baffled Reaction, “Total Freedom Was Always Guaranteed”

Scaraffia, director of the monthly supplement “Women Church World”: “We feel de-legitimized”. The director’s reply: quite the contrary, “its budget was entirely confirmed and its translation and circulation in other countries always guaranteed”

For many in the Sacred Rooms, Lucetta Scaraffia’s resignation from L’Osservatore Romano was a ticking bomb: just waiting for the countdown to finish. The professor, journalist and writer, a symbolic figure of the female presence in the Church, is no longer collaborating with the daily newspaper of the Holy See and above all she has left the guide of the monthly supplement “Women Church World”. Many of the women editors of the insert have slammed the door together with her, with harsh accusations against the new direction of Andrea Monda, held responsible for having weakened the editorial project, leaving the editorial staff in a “climate of distrust and progressive delegitimization”. Accusations that Monda himself denies.

The magazine is a monthly supplement born seven years ago when its editor was Giovanni Maria Vian and the Pope was Benedict XVI. For many it represented a turning point on the theme of women in the Church, and Scaraffia an “icon” of female redemption. The climax peaked a couple of months ago, when in an article she denounced the scandal of sexual abuse and abuse of power over the nuns committed by priests and bishops. A plague recognized by Pope Francis himself, in February, on the flight back from the United Arab Emirates…

League Set to Have 27 MEPs — EP Projection

Salvini’s party forecast to be second-biggest in new parliament

(ANSA) — Brussels, March 29 — Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini’s League party is set to win 27 seats in May’s European elections, according to new set of projections released by the European Parliament on Friday based on published polling data. This would confirm the League’s position as the European party with the second-most MEPs after Germany’s CSU/CDU with 33.

The League won six seats in the 2014 European elections and was forecast to get 28 this time around in the previous set of projections, released on March 1.

The League’s government coalition partner, the 5-Star Movement (M5S), is set to win 18 seats, down by three on the previous projection but up from 14 in 2014.

The centre-right Democratic Party is also set to win 18, according to the new projections, up from the 14 forecast on March 1 but down from 31 it won five years ago.

Silvio Berlusconi’s centre-right Forza Italia is projected to have nine MEPs.

UK: Edmonton Stabbings: Four People Knifed in ‘Random Attacks’

Police are searching for a knifeman after four people were stabbed in a spate of “random” attacks in north London over the weekend.

A woman and three men were all approached from behind and knifed in the back as they walked alone in Edmonton and Walthamstow.

Police said each victim appeared to “selected at random” for being “alone and vulnerable” in the potentially linked attacks.

Two are in a critical condition.

The Metropolitan Police said the attacks are not believed to be terror-related. A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH but police say inquiries continue to establish if he is the person behind the attacks.

The first attack was on a 45-year-old woman who was hurt in Aberdeen Road at 19:02 GMT on Saturday. She remains in a critical condition in an east London hospital.

Four hours later, a man was stabbed in Park Avenue half a mile away. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police believe the third attack happened less than a mile away in Silver Street.

UK: Edmonton Stabbings: Second Man Arrested After Four People Knifed on Streets

A second man has been arrested after four people were hurt in a spate of knife attacks on the streets of London.

The acts have been described as ‘cowardly and senseless’ after a woman and three men were all set upon at random as they walked alone in Edmonton — with two victims now in a critical condition.

Earlier cops confirmed that none of the victims were robbed or spoken to by the attacker before they were knifed — with the sole motive “to be solely to inflict harm”.

One suspect was already in custody and police tonight arrested a second man.

[…]

All of the people targeted were walking alone and were approached from behind without warning and at random.

The police speculated that the stabbings could have been down to one or two lone wolves with mental health conditions possibly a factor.

UK: Tory Elite Say Keep Grieve, Sack Local Activists as Remain MP Loses Confidence Vote

Anti-Brexit Tory MP Dominic Grieve has lost a vote of confidence from his constituency association — but instead of moving to deselect the unpopular MP, party elites want to get rid of the local activists.

Despite saying the British people’s vote to Leave the European Union should be respected in the run-up to the 2017 snap election, in which the Tories stood on a “no deal is better than a bad deal” manifesto promising a clean break with the EU Customs Union, Single Market, and associated Free Movement regime, Mr Grieve has worked diligently to hinder the process single his re-election.

The West’s Crimes Against Persecuted Minorities in the Middle East

by Judith Bergman

The debate in Western Europe about the rights of returning Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists reflects a disturbing sentiment: There appears to be tremendous concern for the well-being of people who decided to leave their native or adopted countries to pledge allegiance to ISIS, the followers of which perpetrated some of the most gruesome crimes committed in this or any century.

Now that the US-supported forces in Syria have taken the last ISIS stronghold in Syria, Baghouz, and ISIS in Iraq and Syria has been defeated, its terrorists and their brides apparently long for the West again…

Illegal Convicted of Child Rape Was Deported But is Back in the U.S… Could Get a Slap on the Wrist

According to the Salina Post, Simon Rochel-Cervantes had been released on Feb. 19 and transferred to federal custody. He had previously been removed from the country in February 2000 at Laredo, Texas.

He has entered the U.S. twice (that we know of) illegally and has committed the heinous crime of rape of a child:

He will get a slap on the wrist for coming back. It’s no wonder criminals just keep coming back to the U.S. after they are deported. Rochel-Cervantes could get two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. That’s it.

Communism in Our Schools and in Our Politics

Even in high school, I found myself offended by my fellow students who were card-carrying communists in their beliefs and sympathies. In fact, a sizeable number of students clung to Marxism as dogma. The high school was Central High School for Boys, a school for gifted boys located in Philadelphia, Pa.

Later, as I continued my studies in the Ivy League, I saw that there was a consistently strong element of intellectuals who were not in the least embarrassed to express their interest in communism.

Democrats Dump POW/MIA Flags for Transgender Pride Flags Outside D.C. Offices

Several Democrat members of Congress have replaced their POW/MIA flags with transgender pride flags outside their congressional offices on Capitol Hill.

A group of Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have eliminated their military flags in exchange for the pink, blue, and white transgender pride flag to protest the military ban on trans soldiers, Fox News reported.

The stunt apparently came at the request of the “National Center for Transgender Equality,” Fox News reported. The group released a statement claiming to have sent the flag to members of Congress with a letter asking them to be displayed to protest President Trump’s plan to exclude trans individuals from serving in the military:

Wave of Hate-Crime Hoaxes Stokes Panic in Portland

Jussie Smollett isn’t alone in trying to fake a hate crime for personal or selfish reasons. Hate crime hoaxes happen more often than many well-meaning Americans probably realize, and often they’re orchestrated as part of a trend intended to provoke hysteria and panic. Sometimes, innocent conservatives guilty of nothing more than living in the area where the “crimes” allegedly occurred are falsely accused of carrying out the attacks, and subjected to a storm of online threats and abuse. The political subtext of these false reports is easy to spot. Just like the Smollett case, they’re intended to portray Trump supporters and conservatives as violent bigots and homophobes willing to indiscriminately target members of the trans and gay communities.

And according to an investigation by New York Post columnist Andy Ngo, Smollett isn’t the only hate crime hoaxer to avoid punishment. In the Portland area alone, trans and LGBT activists have incited a panic with reports of attacks on LGBTQ individuals that, when investigated, were either never reported to police, or, in some cases, the details gathered by police differed dramatically from what was disclosed in viral social media posts, in such a way as to suggest that an attack never occurred.

  1. Sears Condemned for Ending Retirees’ Life Insurance After Handing Executives $25 Million in Bonuses

What alchemy! Golden parachutes for me but lead balloons for thee.

  2. Mob of Migrants Brutally Beat Spanish Guards

Those “Migrants” had better hope they didn’t harm the guards too badly. The right sort of hand injury might interfere with how fast one of them can pull the fire alarm if a blaze breaks out.

Also, a lot more range time for Mutt and Jeff…

  3. Reparations for colonialism? Welfare for Africans? EU funded debit cards for migrants?
Really time for this union to somehow be taken down a peg or two. It does beggar belief that the reparations mantra was ‘overwhelmingly supported’ by MEPs. Or any sane person.

Jared Taylor Has Been Banned From Europe
    March 31, 2019 131 Views 0 Comments

    Letter From Zurich:
I have been banned from Europe and will be deported
    tomorrow.
Why did Poland ban me? Last September, I gave a few talks to nationalist groups in Warsaw. The talks went well, so when I was invited to Lithuania and Estonia in February to speak at conferences, I went back to Poland and spoke in Lublin and Warsaw. Attendance was by invitation only, but the Polish police learned about the meetings. They told the organizer that if I broke any Polish hate speech laws, he would be held responsible. They said I was “spreading a totalitarian ideology.”
In both cities, we switched venues for the talks rather than risk having the police show up. The talks were a success, and in Warsaw I also gave two television interviews. I left Poland by plane and assumed the matter was closed; clearly, it wasn’t. My Polish friends say they will try to find out the reason for the ban and try to appeal it.
But what are the Poles thinking? I’m not like Lenin and Trotsky meeting in Paris, plotting to uproot the entire West. I want to keep Poland as it is, the proud and eternal homeland of the Polish people. What I hope for Poland is what a huge majority of Polish people want, and is not much different from the policies of the regime. I am not a danger to Poland; I am its friend, its devoted admirer.
Three years ago, I got a letter from Theresa May, when she was still home secretary. She told me that my views are repugnant and that she had decided to keep me out of her country. Britain is the land of my ancestors, my language, my favorite authors—and now I was an exile. It was a bitter blow.
Just a few minutes ago, I used my meal voucher at the “Montreux Jazz Lounge” in Terminal E. I watched people eating and talking and laughing, and I envied them. They can come and go as they please. Terminal E is a modern, soulless place, but it is still Europe. It is part of that culture, heritage, and people that I love with a desperate, yearning love—to which I have devoted my life—and from which I am banned.
You and I, working together with our European brothers and sisters, we will save Europe. We will save it from every threat from every corner of the world. But our first and hardest task is to save it from itself.
    March 29, 2019, Zurich
Dear Friends in Stockholm, Turku, and around the world,
I am sorry to have to tell you that I cannot attend the Scandza Forum in Stockholm or the Awakening Conference in Turku, Finland, where I had been invited to give talks. Today, when I landed in Zurich for a connecting flight to Stockholm, Swiss border authorities told me I have been banned from Europe until 2021. I will spend the night at the airport, and tomorrow I will be deported.
The officer at passport control in Zurich airport had already stamped my passport and waved me through to my Stockholm flight when she called after me to come back. She stared at her computer screen and told me I had to wait. She didn’t say why. In a few minutes, a policeman arrived and told me there was an order from Poland that barred me from all 26 countries in the Schengen Zone.
He said the Poles did not give a reason for the ban, and he asked me what I had done. I said I give talks on immigration, and someone in Poland must not like them. “That makes me a political criminal,” I said.
The officer took me to an interrogation room and asked me about my travel plans. He went off to another room for a while and came back with a form for me to sign, saying that I understood I had been denied entry and was being sent back to the United States. After some more waiting, he fingerprinted me and took my photograph.
He then turned me over to a man in civilian clothes, who took me to a spare, dormitory-like accommodation where I will spend the night. It’s not a jail. People pay the equivalent of $40 to spend the night here if they miss a flight. I am free to walk around the terminal, I can make phone calls and use the internet, and I have a meal voucher that is supposed to last me for the next 12 hours. The officer kept my passport, though, and won’t give it back to me until I board the flight home.

    • Jared Taylor is a white supremacist. Subtle, he’s not. But some people are funding him for sure.

Having many mixed-race relatives (and neighbors) myself, his philosophy isn’t one I find attractive or realistic. Of course, I’m prejudiced: being Irish – a ‘race’ the Brits found to be defective and upon whom they openly practiced cultural eradication for eight hundred years – I find these calls to make whites The Top of The Pyramid both reactionary and reprehensible. We Irish were once the English version of apes.

      imho

      • They sure were. I was reminded of that recently reading Freidrich Engels History of the English Working Class. Even up till the mid-nineteenth century the Irish were considered a cultural and racial abomination. My philosophy is, I don’t care what color you are as long as you support civilization–preferably Western Civ.

        • Even up till the mid-nineteenth century the Irish were considered a cultural and racial abomination.

That sentiment lasted well into the 20th century.

  5. Still, Borges was mistaken in his book “The Utopia of a Weary Man” with regards to Ukraine – it all happened the other way around.

    – What happened to the governments?
    – By tradition, they gradually fell out of use. They called elections, declared war, collected taxes, confiscated property, made arrests and introduced censorship, and no one on earth honored them. The press has ceased to publish their declarations and images. Politicians had to look for decent classes for themselves: some became good comedians, others – good healers. In fact, everything was, of course, much more complicated than in this story of mine.
