Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/25/2018

A thoroughly multicultural European crime was foiled by alert Italian police. A Bosnian man was arrested in Gorizia with an arsenal of weapons in his car, which was registered in Switzerland. He had come from Slovenia and was headed for Barcelona.

In other news, as the “caravan” of migrants approaches the southern border of the USA, Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen M. Nielsen has announced that any who manage to make it across the border illegally will be arrested and prosecuted.

Chicago Impounding Cars to Pay Debt

The city of Chicago, burdened with massive debt, is impounding innocent people’s cars and charging the owners thousands of dollars to get them back, according to Reason magazine.

When Mayor Rahm Emanuel assumed office in 2011, “the city was facing a $650 million annual budget gap, not to mention billions upon billions of dollars in unfunded public pension liabilities,” writes C. J. Ciaramella. Rather than address the underlying cause of the problem, namely overspending and overpromising, Emanuel chose to hike scores of taxes and fees. He also vastly expanded the number of offenses that could lead to vehicle impoundment with associated steep fines.

The Humanitarian Hoax of the Federal Reserve System

The Humanitarian Hoax is a deliberate and deceitful tactic of presenting a destructive policy as altruistic. The humanitarian huckster presents himself as a compassionate advocate when in fact he is the disguised enemy.

Most Americans do not realize that the Federal Reserve is NOT constitutionally part of the United States Government and is not even a bank! The Federal Reserve is a system. International banker Marilyn Barnewall explains that the Federal Reserve System is a privately held corporation owned by bankers and it is most definitely not part of the federal government.

The Federal Reserve Act that created the Federal Reserve System (Fed) was passed in Congress on December 22, 1913 and signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson the next day. Barnewall describes the dramatic effects of its passage.

“The Act transferred the right to print currency from the United States Congress to an independent and privately-owned entity calling itself a bank but which is not a bank and changing the Constitution which cannot be changed without Amending it. The Fed is somewhat federal in form, but is very privately owned and operated. President Wilson lived to regret signing The Federal Reserve Act and on his death bed is quoted as saying:

‘I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men.’“

So, who are these men and why was President Wilson so remorseful about signing the Federal Reserve Act? And why is the Federal Reserve System so disingenuously named that the average citizen assumes it is a banking institution and part of the federal government?

Sometimes it is necessary to look back to understand the present and anticipate the future.

“Kill Trump, Hang Him, Hunt Him” Facebook Page Doesn’t Violate Facebook Community Standards

A Facebook page entitled “Kill Trump, Hang Him, Hunt Him” that was reported to the social media giant did not violate its community standards, emphasizing once again the double standard between left-wing and conservative content.

A screenshot of the report was posted by comedian Owen Benjamin, who was banned earlier this month for making a joke about gun control activist David Hogg.

The page that advocated murdering Trump was reported for “hate speech,” but after investigating, Facebook said the content did not violate their community standards.

FISA Court Denied Record Number of Spy Warrants in 2017

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in 2017 rejected a record number of spy warrants, according to statistics released Wednesday to Congress.

The court approved 71 percent of surveillance applications submitted under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in 2017, according to a report from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. That’s down significantly from the 79 percent approved in 2016.

The number of applications declined 8.5 percent, from 1,752 in 2016 to 1,614 the following year.

Kanye’s Real Crime: Encouraging Black People to Think for Themselves

The media and the high priests of pop culture are once again reminding us that the most virulent form of bigotry is the bigotry of low expectations.

They are currently subjecting Kanye West to round the clock persecution because he dared violate a sacred cow of celebrity authodoxy — expressing dissatisfaction with cliched left-wing dogma.

Kanye’s thought crime? Endorsing a sitting president.

Petition Effort to Admit Endangered White South Africans Spreads and Intensifies

The recent 241-83 vote by the South African Parliament to simply take land away from white farmers because they are white, without compensation, has awakened many citizens in other countries to the potential genocide facing the white population of South Africa. Petition efforts have begun in Europe and the United States to allow the country’s four and a half million white citizens to seek humanitarian asylum.

Prof Charged After Spraying Fake Blood on NRA Lobbyist’s House

A Nebraska professor has been charged with property destruction of an NRA lobbyist’s house, according to a Monday report.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor Patricia Wonch Hill received a misdemeanor charge after spraying fake blood on NRA lobbyist Chris Cox’s house in October 2017 and January of 2018, Omaha World-Herald reported.

Hill was not the only academic activist to protest Cox. Her UNL colleague, English professor Amanda Gailey, and former College of William and Mary visiting professor Catherine Koebel co-founded The Great American Gun Melt to lend the gun control movement a more radical element, according to The Washington Post.

The Great Exodus From America’s ‘Blue’ Cities Accelerates

Authored by Kristin Tate, op-ed via The Hill,

Am I the only one in my spinning class at Equinox in Manhattan who’s fed up paying $200 every month for a gym with clean showers, $3,000 in rent every month for an apartment without cockroaches and $8 every morning for a cup of coffee? Am I the only one moving through the greater part of New York City boroughs and seeing an inexorable march of urban decay matched with the discomfort of crowding and inexplicable costs? I know I am not.

New York is the most expensive city in America. Its lower-cost neighborhoods are riddled with crime and homelessness. Its public schools, some of which are among the worst in the nation, look more like prisons than places of learning.

With between up to 50 percent of their paycheck going to a combination of federal, local and city taxes, not including other consumer taxes baked into every aspect of their consumer practices, residents don’t even have the comfort of knowing that their tax expenditures are going to the improvement of their lives in the city. New York infamously misuses the hard-earned tax revenues of its citizens in ways that scarcely benefit them.

Eventually, city and state taxes, fees, and regulations become so burdensome that people and corporations jump ship.

French Muslims Blast Anti-Semitism Letter as Attack on Islam

PARIS (AFP) — A French manifesto calling for certain passages of the Koran to be removed on the grounds of rising anti-Semitism sparked anger Monday from Muslims who said their religion was being unfairly “put on trial”.

The open letter published Sunday in the Parisien newspaper blamed “Islamist radicalisation” for what it said was “quiet ethnic purging” in the Paris region, with abuse forcing Jewish families to move out.

Has Europe Even Tried to Fight Anti-Semitism?

Each time an anti-Semitic attack in Europe receives media attention, politicians rush to condemn it. But verbal condemnations alone change nothing. Anti-Semitism just gets bigger.

The European Union has adopted anti-Israel policies out of fear of upsetting Muslims, but this fear of upsetting Muslims has been fueling Muslim anti-Semitism.

When European governments refuse to accept Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and when they urge “restraint” instead of affirming that Israel has the right to defend itself, they are indulging in appeasement. On one side, they condemn anti-Semitism but on other, they are just whipping it up.

Spain: Jihad Continues

Since the March 2004 attacks on Madrid’s trains, Spanish authorities have arrested more than 750 jihadis in 243 counter-terrorism operations, according to the Interior Ministry.

Jihadis remain undeterred. A recent Islamic State document included a list of grievances against Spain for wrongs allegedly done to Muslims since the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa on July 16, 1212.

“There is little doubt that the autonomous region of Catalonia has become a prime base of operations for terrorist activity. Spanish authorities tell us they fear the threat from these atomized immigrant communities prone to radicalism, but they have very little intelligence on or ability to penetrate these groups.” — US diplomatic cable, October 2, 2007.

“May Allah Destroy Your Houses and Burn You All!”

In one of the most brazen attacks on Egypt’s Christians, a Muslim man slaughtered a Christian bishop in broad daylight. Security camera footage (viewable here) captured a man with a large butcher knife chasing and stabbing Bishop Samaan Shehata—including in the head, neck, and torso—in the streets of Cairo on October 12. According to eyewitnesses “the assailant had seen Shehata in his car, forcibly stopped him, ordered him out and then started to stab him in the neck and torso. Shehata fled, and the attacker followed him into the warehouse and finished his attack there with several blows to the head.” Then, while standing over his fallen victim, “the assailant used the bishop’s blood to form a cross on his forehead.” It took 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, and “the bishop was alive for half an hour after being struck and could have been saved if the ambulance had arrived timely.”

Caroline Glick: Europe Wants Unity on Iran While Undermining Trump on Jerusalem

As French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel beat a path for the White House in back-to-back visits this week, the media coverage of U.S. — European Union relations is focused on efforts to convince President Donald Trump to keep faith with his predecessor Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran.

Since last December 6, when Trump officially recognized that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital and announced his intention to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, Macron, Mogherini, and Merkel have been leading a major effort to undermine his policy…

What Role Did US Lawyers Play in Malaysia’s 1MDB Scandal?

In 2013, Hollywood blockbuster “The Wolf of Wall Street” drew back the veil on the lavish and depraved lifestyles of certain members of the finance community. It showed how — in the case of Jordan Belfort, at least — the financial system could be exploited and circumvented for personal gain. Two years later, we saw a similar tale involving some of the same type of characters play out in real time. Across international papers, TV and news sites, a wave of stories, leaks and investigations exposed what has come to be seen as one of the biggest international corruption cases of all time: the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the billions of dollars embezzled from 1MDB, a government owned-company, were spent on luxury properties, high-end art and lavish lifestyles, as well as payments to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. Perhaps the deepest irony of all, money taken from 1MDB allegedly funded the Leonardo DiCaprio film “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

But how was a global heist of this magnitude even possible in the first place? And how was so much money allowed to go missing without anyone noticing?

The culprits in enabling or facilitating what happened are far less glamorous, but no less key to this story. By this, I am referring to the bankers and lawyers, without whom none of this money could have been moved and stolen from the Malaysian people.

Sweden’s Increasingly Lawless Immigration Policy?

Sweden’s National Board of Forensic Medicine reported that in 83% of the cases where it had stated an opinion about the age of the asylum applicant, the applicant had not been a minor. Many asylum seekers had lied about their age simply because there is greater probability of getting a residence permit — and more benefits — if you are a minor. It is also easier for minors to bring their relatives to Sweden through family immigration.

Afghan demonstrators were saying that Afghans who returned home would die. This second report showed that the problem for Afghans returning home was not security. The problem was the economy.

  1. ‘The number of violent attacks on ambulance staff in Britain has soared by over a third’

    – I mean – do you know any European who would attack ambulance staff?

‘Swedish Woman Who Accompanied Two Afghans to Prove That Xenophobes Are Wrong is Raped and Abused’

    – this sounds funny but I blame the Swedish media! Poor impressionables, who think that the Swedish media don’t lie, might end up this way, and it is no fun.

    • Regarding this same topic, attacks on ambulance staff, their national representative says “Changing the law will be an important first step as current sentences aren’t providing an adequate deterrent.”

Maybe, maybe. But a society in which *legal deterrence* is needed to deter such attacks has gone very seriously off the rails. There is a deep sickness there, something that no amount of hospitalisation/medical treatment can ever cure. I asked a Korean friend if this kind of thing happened there. At first he couldn’t grasp what I was talking about then said “It’s possible, I suppose, but I’ve never heard of it.”

      • An outlier:

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seung-Hui_Cho

This is the student who killed so many people at Virginia Tech. It was obvious for a long time that he was severely mentally ill.

Seung-Hui Cho (or vice versa) was eight years old when he immigrated from South Korea to the U.S. with his parents. Like other school shooters, the potential harm to others his illness could cause was ignored – we have a hands-off policy when it comes to such cases.

At any rate, for what it matters, South Korea is not immune from producing such deeply troubled people. They have been with us since humanity emerged from the trees.

        • Not looking to shift the burden here, and of course dangerously mentally ill people are produced in every society and culture; but strictly speaking, since this perp was brought to the US as a child, his psyche was largely shaped by the American society he grew up in. It could be that he was unable to adjust adequately to an entirely new culture and that caused or contributed to his mental condition. Perhaps if he had been left to grow up in his native country, things might have turned out differently.

          • That boy was so badly wired that most mental health workers would tend to say it was a brain problem he was born with, one that made him fragile.

I agree that his condition was exacerbated by a move to a new country at the young age of eight. But read the wiki; it’s obvious that his issues were of long-standing duration, and probably even existed in utero. If you’ve ever worked with those whose wiring is askew, they’re not hard to spot.

Maybe in South Korea, he would have gotten better treatment sooner. But his problems were obvious here by at least middle school when the interventions began.

          • I read recently of how India’s estimated Hindu population fell from 600 million to 200 million during the 900-year period of 800 AD to 1700 AD., largely due to Muslim attacks generation after generation. It was described how Hindu culture gradually shifted, becoming in practice more a behavioral variant of Islam. As the decades of Islamic criminality and violence in Western countries pile up, we’re already seeing shifts here. The mentally ill conducting attacks will continue copying Islamic terrorist methods. This is just planting the seeds of jihad in a host population. Within 2 generations all of Western Europe will be Muslim, with all its attendant social problems.

  2. Should dingbat women even be allowed to vote? Look at Merkel or May and wonder?

They move from blunder to blunder, don’t they? There should be some sort of testing. like before joining the army, for folks to be allowed to vote to destroy Western Civilization.

    • The problem isn’t just dingbat women. Plenty of men should also be barred from voting. Read Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers” for a good explanation of who should and shouldn’t be allowed to vote and why. Franchise is too important to give to just anyone who is 18 with a pulse.

      • I love Heinlein too, but franchise is too important not to give to all whose lives are affected by politicians’ decisions.

        • In the world as Heinlein saw it, the only people qualified to hold office and vote for them were those who had put their money where their mouth was and had served a term of service first defending with life and limb what they wished to defend in a legislative capacity.

I believe many of our country’s problems come down to too many voting who have no skin in the game but have a definite interest in feeding at the public trough.

    • You chose your name well, Chauvanist. Women are no more nor less qualified than men to run things. That is the least of our problems.

      • I don’t totally agree. Women bring a different approach to running things. Few have real leadership qualities. They tend to be managers, rather than leaders. Can anyone envision a female Teddy Roosevelt? I can’t. Now in some cases what women offer is what you want — good management, compromise, etc. But in other circumstances, men are needed. (I am generalizing somewhat. ) My main point is that there are differences. The UN is pushing for more women running things. It is part of their sustainable development agenda. I believe the reason is that women are more easily manipulated and controlled. As for voting, I think women are easier to manipulate with nice sounding rhetoric.

        • I like your differentiation between “leaders” and “managers”. Women are often excellent managers; I’ve had less experience with them as leaders, though. The only one that comes to mind immediately is Mother Teresa; she was a leader.

In fact, as I think back on it, some of the nuns I knew back when there were such beings had real leadership qualities in all-female environments, e.g., schools and hospitals. For a very long time, Catholic hospitals had better outcome numbers in all categories when compared to regular hospitals. That was back when nursing nuns were the administrators all the way to the top.

Nah, no female Teddy Roosevelts for sure. But is that germane? Eleanor Roosevelt carved out a place for herself in history when she lived in a hostile environment where none was offered. In a friendlier situation, her leadership qualities might have shone forth.

One woman who did make the cut was Indira Gandhi. A leader who was assassinated:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indira_Gandhi

Yes, it was her family influence that gave her a leg up, but that is common enough among men in politics as to be unremarkable.

Not all women “are easier to manipulate with nice sounding rhetoric” – at least not any more than men are. Just visit the comment sections on red meat websites and see what I mean. Mostly men, and mostly volatile.

  3. ‘The woman was traumatised by the horrible experience and now has sleep problems.’ (from trusting Islamic refugees)

This woman typifies the West. She is middle aged and clearly not married and was looking for romance. Failed family cohesion, the foolish desire to be an eternal teenager, the open mind that allows the brains to fall out.

What was she thinking? No-one on the Left is thinking any longer. They only wish to destroy an illusory enemy whilst embracing the real enemy. The West deserves to die!
