Gates of Vienna News Feed 4/24/2018

The Generation Identitaire operation on the French border in the Alps has had an effect. GI used a helicopter, vehicles, and a barrier to symbolically close the border and demonstrate that the government was failing to do its job. The government has now moved to increase border security in the area.

In other news, a British diplomat on a visit to India was forced to apologize after he referred to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, a holy shrine for the Sikhs, as a “mosque”.

Macron in Washington

by Srdja Trifkovic

French President Emanuel Macron’s three-day visit to Washington started on an awkward notewhen he kissed an obviously uncomfortable President Donald Trump. The scene was a symbolic reminder that the two leaders do not enjoy an “intense, close relationship” invented by the media. In reality Macron is, both ideologically and temperamentally, the polar opposite of Trump. The latter was admittedly impressed by the welcome he received for the Bastille Day celebration in Paris last year, and Macron has the distinction of being the first foreign leader to come for a state visit to Trump’s Washington, but there is less than meets the eye to their alleged “chemistry.”

To start with the basics, Trump and Macron are not “two alpha males,” and I have this sneaky suspicion that the leftist-liberal media machine is keen to award the French president Trump’s indubitable “alpha” status in order to neutralize suspicions about Macron’s sexual orientation. In reality, while Trump is a heterosexual who evidently likes pretty women younger than himself, Macron is most likely a bisexual who was fond of older women as a teenager—his wife is 24 years his senior—but now prefers handsome younger men, like the former Radio France president Mathieu Gallet.

Trump is an eccentric in many ways, to be sure, but for all his faults he is genuine and honest, a true albeit diminishing American type. Macron is the poster-boy of Europe’s postmodern transnational elite, a former international banker and fanatical Euro-integralist. He is also an Islamophile (“No religion is a problem in France today . . . What poses a problem is not Islam, but certain behaviors that are said to be religious and then imposed on persons who practice that religion”) and an open-borders enthusiast (by allowing over a million migrants in, “[Chancellor] Merkel and German society as a whole exemplified our common European values. They saved our collective dignity”). In February 2017 he lampooned Trump’s promise to protect America’s southern border by pledging never to build a wall of any kind…

Remarks by President Trump and President Macron of France in Joint Press Conference

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you very much. Thank you. Melania and I are truly honored to welcome French President Macron and Mrs. Macron to the White House. Thank you very much. It’s a great honor.

We’re thrilled that the first official state visit of my presidency is not only with a great friend, but with a leader of America’s oldest ally, the Republic of France. Today, in our nation’s capital, the Stars and Stripes proudly fly alongside the Tricolor flag, a symbol of the world, and to the world, of unity, fraternity, and friendship that forever links our nations together.

A Profile of the Toronto Van Killer Emerges

Just hours before Toronto van attack suspect Alek Minassian was set to arrive in court at 100 Finch Ave. W at 10 am in Toronto, Reuters published a profile of the perpetrator of the worst mass killing in Canada in nearly 30 years.

The Richmond Hill man, who was described by acquaintances as withdrawn and was said to have attended a high school program for students with special needs, is accused of murdering 10 and injuring another 15 when a rented van he was driving jumped a curb and rammed into pedestrians along a 2.2 kilometer stretch of Yonge St. between Sheppard Ave. and Finch Ave. Monday afternoon.

British Woman ‘Held as a Sex Slave for Two Weeks in Italy’

A British woman allegedly held as a sex slave in Italy and raped repeatedly by three men managed to escape after calling her family for help, police say.

But when she arrived, she was allegedly held her against her will, raped repeatedly and had her mobile phone taken away. Two more men, from Mali, also abused her at the house, it has been claimed.

Finland Abandons Universal Basic Income Experiment After Two Years

“I felt a great disturbance in the farce, as if millions of socialist voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something rational has happened.”

With high-profile champions such as Richard Branson, Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, backing the idea of governments giving non-working people money (from working people) to do nothing — what could go wrong?

Well, two years after enthusiastically beginning its experiment with a universal basic income — in which people are paid an unconditional salary by the state instead of benefits — Finland is abandoning the project as government enthusiasm wanes and additional funding requests are rejected.

Soft Brexit Warning: Iceland’s Independence ‘Nuisance’ To Expansionist EU

Iceland’s independence is viewed as a “nuisance” by the European Union (EU) as it pushes to become an integrated superstate and pressures the Nordic nation to accept more and more of the bloc’s rules and regulations.

The comments were made by Bjarni Benediktsson, Iceland’s finance minister, who explained how they are battling to protect their national interests from “deeper integration” and the EU’s push to force them to bow to additional rules on energy and food standards.

“This is Mushrooming” — Nicaragua Teeters on the Brink of Revolution as US Pulls Diplomats

For the first time since the late 1970s, Nicaragua is on the brink of a revolution as tens of thousands of protesters throng the streets of the capitol Managua and a host of other towns to demand the resignation of President Daniel Ortega, a former left-wing dictator-turned-democrat who led the Sandinistas to during the Nicaraguan Revolution.

Ortega, who gave up power after losing an election in 1990 but remained a popular opposition figure and was elected president in 2006, has been criticized for his autocratic rule, political repressions and — most recently — for proposing social security reforms that would involve Nicaraguans paying more into the system while reducing payouts by 5%, according to Al Jazeera.

Ortega has aligned his government with the governments of Cuba and Venezuela, though Nicaragua’s economy achieved 5% GDP growth last year. Still, it remains the poorest country in Central America.

Free Julian Assange

In late March, Ecuador’s Lenin Moreno disconnected Julian Assange’s internet access. The reasoning behind this decision involved tensions with Spain and the United Kingdom regarding Assange’s social media messages. Spain objected to Assange’s support for the independence campaign in Catalonia. The United Kingdom complained about a factual tweet regarding its expulsion of Russian diplomats.

A United Nations panel has criticized Sweden and the United Kingdom. The panel says Assange has been “arbitrarily detained” and deserves “freedom of movement” and other rights.

  1. “a British diplomat on a visit to India was forced to apologize after he referred to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, a holy shrine for the Sikhs, as a “mosque”.”

Well, I’m on the side of the Sikhs here. It is indeed a very, very offensive remark.

  2. Assange is now subjected to unusual punishment for telling the Truth about the West’s corrupt “elites”. He’s a political refugee deserving of basic human rights, while PM May turns the thumb screws on him relentlessly.

    Set him FREE Teresa!

  3. I am disturbed by what we are not finding out about the Toronto van killer. The information that has emerged so far seems contrived to me. The individual seems like a rather vulnerable person. Could medication of some sort be a factor, or could he have been seduced into doing this and possibly be a victim of mind control? If we see more oddities like this emerge (oddities in that they look very much like jihadi attacks, but involve vulnerable seeming people, we should be wary and try to find out more.

I suppose many people are capable of perpetrating something crazy like this, but this particular story makes no sense to me. If it were some sort of retaliation for the Armenian genocide (the crime was committed on the anniversary) and done in a Muslim neighborhood) — that would make more sense than the current story regarding sketchy information regarding incel. Canada is often not forthcoming about anything that suggests social unrest involving the immigrant community. News is often suppressed and revised to tell the story they want Canadians to believe. So far we have a story based on speculation about motives. What is the actual perpetrator telling the police about his motive?? Much more needs to be known.

    • Yes… This “incident” took place not too far from where I live. The environment around that area is very relaxed and decidedly non-political; lots of little stores and restaurants.
Having said all that, I haven’t heard the word “copy-cat” used by anyone discussing the incident. It is almost certain that the murderer got the brilliant idea of mowing down people strolling down the street from previous versions of this mode of murder.
Going further, it wouldn’t surprise me if there had been a charismatic “voice” urging the fellow to please God by killing. Anyone. But as you note, it’s unlikely that the basic motivation – if there is such a thing other than pure lunacy – will ever be disclosed by “The Authorities”. We Torontonians are simply too stupid to understand…
But we should cheer up somewhat, as the folks in Ottawa are about to stifle any more such attempts to kill randomly… by issuing some more gun-control laws…

      • In these shocking mass murders it is wise to reserve judgement rather than immediately saying it is “this or that”. To me there seems to be three possible suspects in this type of attack ranked in probability, 1) Muslim Jihadists, 2) Insane lunatics listening to voices, 3) Angry/Sad resentful types wanting a form of revenge.
In this Toronto case, I suspect we are dealing with a type 2 or 3, but we need to wait until all the facts emerge. Suggesting it is a conspiracy if our preferred culprit is not implicated seems to be the default reaction to some on the counter jihad side. I’m more interested in the truth.

      • and we will have to revisit the ” Münster” incident. Very slowly, information dripples that other bullets were found in the RV.
Let me sketch a criminalistic theory: the german driver shot himself, then staged false traces by putting bullets into the back of his seat, then directed the car towards the café and on the way there dropped two hitchhikers of unknown origin in order not to harm them.
        Seems logical, doesn’t it?
