Gates of Vienna News Feed 11/13/2016

A year after the jihad massacre at the Bataclan café in Paris, where 130 people were killed, the venue reopened with Sting as the featured act. The well-known singer began his show by singing “Insh’allah”, to the delighted applause of the crowd. Two members of the Eagles of Death Metal band, which was playing at the venue the night of the massacre, were turned away from last night’s show by the café’s management.

In other news, a strong 7.8 earthquake struck New Zealand, killing at least two people and causing a tsunami.

Why President Trump Will Fumigate the Fed

For the past year, the president-elect has been railing against the “false economy” that the Fed has created, as well as the political influence that runs rampant throughout the central bank.

Perhaps Trump’s most scathing attack on the institution came last October, when he insinuated that Fed actions are crippling the middle class without creating any type of benefit to the economy at large.

“[Chairwoman Yellen] is keeping the economy going, barely,” he said. “You know who gets hurt the most [by her easy money policies]? The people that went through 40 years of their life and saved a hundred dollars every week [in the bank].” He then paused and shook his head for added effect before adding: “They worked all their lives to save and now what happens is they’re being forced into an inflated stock market and at some point they’ll get wiped out.”

These anti-Fed talking points were recycled often on the campaign trail. In September, Trump attacked the Fed for putting us in a “big, fat, ugly bubble” and for keeping rates artificially low for political purposes, points that he again repeated in the first presidential debate. The business mogul has also promised to audit the Fed within the first 100 days of his administration and even included a criticism of the central bank in a recent online video ad.

“The Real Clinton Conspiracy” Which Backfired Dramatically

Any Democrat who is not angry at this is clearly just a biased fool.

Meanwhile, Hillary lost not merely because she misread the “real” people, she decided to run a very divisive and nasty negative campaign, which has fueled the violence ever since. According to WikiLeaks emails from campaign John Podesta, Clinton colluded with the DNC and the media to raise what they thought would be the extreme right among Republicans to then make her the middle of the road to hide her agenda.

Clinton called this her “pied piper” strategy, that intentionally cultivated extreme right-wing presidential candidates and that would turn the Republicans away from their more moderate candidates. This enlisted mainstream media who then focused to Trump and raise him above all others assuming that would help Hillary for who would vote for Trump. This was a deliberate strategy all designed to propel Hillary to the White House.

AdultFriendFinder Network Hack Exposes 412 Million Accounts

Almost every account password was cracked, thanks to the company’s poor security practices. Even “deleted” accounts were found in the breach.

A massive data breach targeting adult dating and entertainment company Friend Finder Network has exposed more than 412 million accounts.

The hack includes 339 million accounts from AdultFriendFinder.com, which the company describes as the “world’s largest sex and swinger community.”

That also includes over 15 million “deleted” accounts that wasn’t purged from the databases.

On top of that, 62 million accounts from Cams.com, and 7 million from Penthouse.com were stolen, as well as a few million from other smaller properties owned by the company.

The data accounts for two decades’ worth of data from the company’s largest sites, according to breach notification LeakedSource, which obtained the data.

CTRL-L: The Left Loses Its Unremitting Fight for Control

My friend Professor Charles Lipson has suggested this title — CTRL-L as an alternate to Alt-R not only because it’s a witty rejoinder to the tag, but as well because it accurately describes the left, a faction always seeking control over us. And they lost handily on Tuesday.

This week the left — its propagandizing press, pollsters, and university leftist monoculture — suffered a long deserved and punishing blow, but what it could not win at the ballot box it is attempting to regain in the streets. They seem to want elections to be resolved by the number of people they can turn out to riot and disrupt.

A brief recap of the most astonishing electoral turnabout in recent memory.

1.) The Media and the Pollsters lost their clout by incompetence and deceit

Pre-election night polls and media coverage reflected that leftist monoculture.

The pollsters should now begin shuttering their shops and looking for real work. After months of predicting a certain substantial Hillary win, they predicted the following results:

Leaked Podesta Emails Confirm Suspicions About Aspartame Dangers

John Podesta’s leaked emails have turned up a number of damning pieces confirming the collusion between the soda industry and high level officials within the U.S. government, including Hillary Clinton.

In a recent batch of leaked emails, Donald Rumsfeld’s involvement in the approval of aspartame is discussed. Rumsfeld served as White House chief of staff from 1974 to 1975. He was also secretary of defense from 1975 to 1977, and again from 2001 to 2006.

In 1976, Rumsfeld became CEO of the drug company G.D. Searle & Company, which was trying to get aspartame approved by the FDA.

To put the email chain into context, in 2013 the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) filed a petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requesting the agency “amend the standard of identity” for milk and other dairy products.

Liberals Scared to Death by Their Own Caricature of Trumpettes

Liberals are afraid of their own shadows right now. That’s because they’ve created anti-matter, Mr. Hyde caricatures of the Trumpettes — the average little guys who support Trump. These shadows that liberals have cast by their own self-deceit now surround them, and they believe the grotesquely exaggerated images they have created.

This false belief like any phobia is taking on its own life by creating mass hysteria in the streets of America. By that step, belief becomes reality. While the initial description that liberals painted of Trumpettes is false — they’re all misogynistic, homophobic racists — the hysteria is real, and that causes people to react with violence against whatever they fear. Those violent reactions become very real horrors that are not just painted in the imagination, and they divide the nation deeper, creating fears that are now based on real horrible events that came about due to the original false beliefs. It’s like a panic attack that feeds on itself.

And the more people continue to believe the caricature that liberals created out of Trump supporters and then react in fear to that caricature, the more real-life bad events will create real horrors. It can quickly become a self-fueling social vortex that all began from false fears.

MSNBC Host Smears GOP Voters as ‘Voting KKK’

Liberal MSNBC host Joy Reid has been in meltdown mode since the news of Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton, as evidenced by some of her over the top tweets from the past couple of days as she has tried to link Trump and even his supporters to neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan. On Thursday, reacting to news that the Trump campaign’s Steve Bannon would work in the White House, Reid snarked that the move amounted to “bringing neonazism in from the cold and giving it West Wing power.”

Senate Minority Leader: Trump Victory ‘Emboldened Hate’

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Friday issued a scathing attack on President-elect Donald Trump, saying his election “emboldened the forces of hate and bigotry in America.”

“White nationalists, [Russian President] Vladimir Putin and ISIS are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory, while innocent, law-abiding Americans are wracked with fear — especially African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Muslim Americans, LGBT Americans and Asian Americans. Watching white nationalists celebrate while innocent Americans cry tears of fear does not feel like America,” charged Reid in a lengthy statement dealing with the results of the 2016 election.

“I have heard more stories in the past 48 hours of Americans living in fear of their own government and their fellow Americans than I can remember hearing in five decades in politics,” he claimed. “Hispanic Americans who fear their families will be torn apart, African Americans being heckled on the street, Muslim Americans afraid to wear a headscarf, gay and lesbian couples having slurs hurled at them and feeling afraid to walk down the street holding hands. American children waking up in the middle of the night crying, terrified that Trump will take their parents away. Young girls unable to understand why a man who brags about sexually assaulting women has been elected president.”[…]

So… What of the Supreme Court?

“Their decision in a particular case applies ONLY to that case. It is not a forced broad brush law that applies to all of America”

For the purpose of securing our rights, the Constitution grants lawmaking power ONLY to Congress and NOT to the courts; not even the Supreme Court.

You see, the very first sentence of the Constitution says, “All legislative power herein granted is vested in a Congress…”

So, if all federal lawmaking power is in Congress, then how much is left over for the courts?

The answer, of course, is zero.

Under our Constitution, courts render opinions in cases and controversies that come before them; they do not make laws…

[C]ourts do not make Law; they discover and apply the relevant law to the facts of each unique case. In addition, their decision in a particular case applies ONLY to that case. It is not a forced broad brush law that applies to all of America. With no enforcement powers the Court must await the Executive to enforce their opinion.

The Anti-Trump Protesters Are Tools of the Oligarchy. Their Objective: Delegitimize Donald, Install “Madam President”

Who are the anti-Trump protesters besmirching the name of progressives by pretending to be progresives and by refusing to accept the outcome of the presidential election? They look like, and are acting worse than, the “white trash” that they are denouncing.

I think I know who they are. They are thugs for hire and are paid by the Oligarchy to delegitimize Trump’s presidency in the way that Washington and the German Marshall Fund paid students in Kiev to protest the democratically elected Ukrainian government in order to prepare the way for a coup.

The organization, change.org, which claims to be a progressive group, but might be a front, along with other progressive groups, for the Oligarchy, is destroying the reputation of all progressives by circulating a petition that directs the electors of the Electoral Collage to annul the election by casting their votes for Hillary. Remember how upset progressives were when Trump said he might not accept the election result if there was evidence that the vote was rigged? Now progressives are doing what they damned Trump for saying he might do under certain conditions…

What is the point of the protests, and what interest is served by them? As the Romans always asked, “who benefits?”

There is only one answer: The Oligarchy and only the Oligarchy benefits.

Trump is a threat to the Oligarchy, because he intends to stop the giveaway of American jobs to foreigners. The jobs giveaway, sanctified by the neoliberal junk economists as “free trade,” is one of the main reasons for the 21st century worsening of the US income distribution. Money that was formerly paid in middle class wages and salaries to American manufacturing employees and college graduates has been re-routed to the pockets of the One Percent.

When US corporations move their production of goods and services sold to Americans offshore to Asian countries, such as China and India, their wage bill falls. The money formerly paid in middle class incomes goes instead into executive bonuses and dividends and capital gains to shareholders. The ladders of upward mobility that had made America the land of opportunity were dismantled for the sole purpose of making a handful of people multi-billionaires.

The Communists Behind the Anti-Trump Protests

Contrary to media misrepresentations, many of the supposedly spontaneous, organic, anti-Trump protests we have witnessed in cities from coast to coast were in fact carefully planned and orchestrated, in advance, by a pro-Communist organization called the ANSWER Coalition, which draws its name from the acronym for “Act Now to Stop War and End Racism.” ANSWER was established in 2001 by Ramsey Clark’s International Action Center, a group staffed in large part by members of the Marxist-Leninist Workers World Party. In 2002, the libertarian author Stephen Suleyman Schwartz described ANSWER as an “ultra-Stalinist network” whose members served as “active propaganda agents for Serbia, Iraq, and North Korea, as well as Cuba, countries they repeatedly visit and acclaim.”

Since its inception, ANSWER has consistently depicted the United States as a racist, sexist, imperialistic, militaristic nation guilty of unspeakable crimes against humanity-in other words, a wellspring of pure evil. When ANSWER became a leading organizer of the massive post-9/11 demonstrations against the Patriot Act and the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, it formed alliances with other likeminded entities such as Not In Our Name (a project of the Revolutionary Communist Party) and United For Peace and Justice (a pro-Castro group devoted to smearing America as a cesspool of bigotry and oppression).

Another key organizer of the current anti-Trump protests is a group called Socialist Alternative, which describes “the global capitalist system” as “the root cause of … poverty, discrimination, war, and environmental destruction.” Explaining that “the dictatorships that existed in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe were [unfortunate] perversions of what socialism is really about,” this organization calls for a happy-faced “democratic socialism where ordinary people will have control over our daily lives.”

And, lo and behold, many components of Socialist Alternative’s agenda mesh seamlessly with Hillary Clinton’s political priorities.

The People Are Laughing at the Liberal Media

Members of the media continue to talk among themselves, as if they had not been repudiated by the people on November 8. Mass firings and new faces are needed if the media are going to have any hope of regaining any credibility with the public.

Some on the far-left are waking up. Anis Shivani of the AlterNet news service asked, “Is the liberal media dead?” She answered: “One of the positives of this campaign is that despite relentless 24/7 propaganda about Trump, exaggerating his personal foibles while painting anyone not supportive of Hillary as a closet misogynist, racist or even sexual predator, the message failed to get through. In the end, no one paid any attention. Those inside the elite bubble were persuaded that they were headed for victory, hearing nothing contrary in their own ecosphere, when they were in fact doomed. The people have shown that they can tune out this noise. The media has fragmented so much that only those who are already persuaded come within the ambit of any new message, so in essence they have pounded their way into their own irrelevance (emphasis added).”

The TPP is Dead: The People Defeat Transnational Corporate Power

The Obama administration faced reality on Friday when they recognized the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) would not be ratified by this Congress. The TPP is dead.

How did people power win?

We have worked to stop the TPP and other Obama trade agreements for more than five years. We were part of the ‘movement of movements’, the largest coalition ever opposing a corporate trade agreement, which stopped it. It included all sorts of activists who work on human rights, worker rights, the environment, climate change, Internet freedom, health care, food safety and more.

People told us stopping the TPP was impossible. Even after the election of Trump, people still told us we could not win, the corporations wanted this and they would get it. But, after years of work, the impossible became the inevitable and the TPP is dead.

Even before the election the TPP was near death. Years of people working to stop it made TPP stand for Toxic Political Poison. First, the movement exposed the TPP which the Obama administration had sought to keep secret while it negotiated a global corporate coup with the aid of hundreds of corporate lawyers, executives and lobbyists.

The movement organized spectacle protests that drew attention to an agreement being secretly negotiated. People across the country organized leafletting, teach-ins and visibility actions. There were national and global days of action, and there were Twitter storms and memes on Facebook. It became impossible to hide the TPP. The secret was exposed. Once exposed, the movement educated people about what it contained. Wikileaks and others leaked portions of the document. As more was exposed, it became less popular.

[Comment: Globalist scumbags will now try to slip it through piecemeal in other “trade” proposals.]

To Undo Obama Policies, Simply Drop Lawsuits, Revoke Memos

(Washington Times) Forget about waiting for Congress — Donald Trump can eviscerate Obamacare and cripple President Obama’s global warming framework all on his first few days in office by directing policy from the White House and ordering his Justice Department to drop lawsuits that the current administration is pursuing.

Lawyers said getting rid of the government’s mandate that schools allow transgender students to choose their bathrooms could be as simple as retracting an Education Department letter, then letting judges know that is no longer the administration’s position.

Mr. Obama’s 2014 deportation amnesty, which is also the subject of court challenges, could be nixed by revoking the Homeland Security memo that laid out the policy, then telling judges it’s gone. No memo, no case.

Mr Bannon stepped aside temporarily as Breitbart’s executive chairman to act as Mr Trump’s campaign chief.

Words of Wisdom From a (Former) Ardent Communist

In an interview, Bui Tin stated: “The roots of the Vietnam War — its all-encompassing and underlying nature — lie in a confrontation between two ideological worlds: socialism versus apitalism … totalitarianism versus democracy. … The conscience of America was part of its war-making capability, and we were turning that power in our favor. America lost because of its democracy; through dissent and protest it lost the ability to mobilize a will to win.”

Commenting on this dangerous trend is retired Major General Patrick Brady, considered the most decorated living veteran. A Medal of Honor recipient, he flew over 2,500 combat missions in Vietnam, rescuing over 5,000 wounded. As told in his book, “Dead Men Flying,” he once rescued 51 wounded in one day, flying three different helicopters which were shot up with over 400 holes from enemy fire and explosions.

Major General Patrick Brady wrote, June 4, 2013 (WND.com): “The greatest danger … the feminization, emasculation and dismantling of our military. The two most important elements of national survival are the media and the military. … We know the media are failing — God help us if the military does also. … Let’s begin with Benghazi. It is incomprehensible that any commander, let alone the commander in chief, would go AWOL during a crisis such as Benghazi, but he was. … Unprecedented rates of suicide. … Cut benefits to veterans. … Quad-sexual military with all the health, readiness and moral issues that come with exalting sodomy. … Sexual assault. … Women will be tasked to lead bayonet charges. … Billions of defense dollars are unaccounted for. … Christianity is under military attack, and Bibles have been burned to appease Muslims. … Just as the way forward for America is a return to the morality and values of the past, so too must the military return to the readiness standards and common sense of the past.”

Donald Trump’s Election Leaves Angela Merkel as the Liberal West’s Last Defender

And then there was one.

Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, has emerged as the last powerful defender of Europe and the trans-Atlantic alliance after the election of Donald J. Trump. But after 11 years in power, she is tired, her associates say, and under siege seemingly from all directions.

She is under pressure from the same forces that elevated Mr. Trump in America, fueled Britain’s vote to exit the European Union and are now propelling the populist Marine Le Pen in France. At home, the hard-right Alternative for Germany party has scored a string of victories in state elections.

Ms. Merkel needs to fend off a resurgent Russia that is promoting its brand of illiberal democracy by backing right-wing parties throughout the Continent and fanning the flames of populism. But with Mr. Trump openly admiring Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, even maintaining economic sanctions imposed on Moscow over conflicts in Crimea and Ukraine will be a challenge.

“Never before has so much ridden on the Germans,” said Simon Tilford, the deputy director of the Center for European Reform in London. “We’re very fortunate that Germany is led now by Merkel, because there is a chance she will step up and do what Europe needs her to do.”

Eagles of Death Metal ‘Thrown Out’ Of Bataclan Reopening

Members of Eagles of Death Metal, the US group who were playing when jihadists attacked Paris’ Bataclan concert hall last year, were turned away from the venue’s reopening show on Saturday over controversial remarks by their lead singer.

“They came, I threw them out — there are things you can’t forgive,” Bataclan co-director Jules Frutos told AFP, as Sting was wrapping up an emotional reopening show to mark a year since 90 people were massacred there during a gig by the Californian band.

Eagles frontman Jesse Hughes — one of the two band members denied entry to the Sting concert — caused dismay in France earlier this year by suggesting Muslim staff at the Bataclan were involved in the gun and suicide bomb attack there on November 13, 2015.

Before the concert Frutos said that he was sick of listening to Hughes’ conspiracy theories.

“He makes these incredibly false declarations every two months. It is madness, accusing our security of being complicit with the terrorists…Enough. Zero. This has to stop,” he added.

France Plans to Implement Universal Biometric IDs

On October 30, the French government announced, as quietly as possible, the creation of a massive new database that will collect and store personal information and biometric data on nearly everyone living in the country. As tends to happen whenever a government seeks to enact this type of “reforms,” the law wasn’t passed by parliament but by decree on the eve of a national holiday.

As France 24 reports, the new decree will affect 60 million people and “marks the first time the country has collected population data on such a scale since the start of the Nazi Occupation in 1940.”

“Unacceptable Excesses”

The move has sparked outrage from civil rights groups as well as French media, with weekly magazine L’Observateur describing it as “terrifying,” and daily newspaper Liberation dubbing it a “mega database that will do no good”. The National Digital Council (CNNum) “laments” the government’s lack of prior consultation and highlights the “many concerns” the new decree raises. “In a digital world where code is law, the existence of such a database leaves the door wide open to likely and unacceptable excesses,” it said.

France Remembers 130 Killed in Paris Attacks 1 Year Ago

France marked the anniversary of Islamic extremists’ coordinated attacks on Paris with a somber silence on Sunday that was broken only by voices reciting the names of the 130 slain, and the son of the first person to die stressing the importance of integration.

Under heavy security, President Francois Hollande unveiled a plaque outside the Stade de France “in memory of Manuel Dias,” pulling away a French flag covering it on a wall at one of the entrances to the French national stadium, where Dias was killed on Nov. 13, 2015, by a suicide bomber.

France’s Le Pen Hails ‘New World’ After Trump Win

Donald Trump’s US election victory heralds the “building of a new world”, France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen said Sunday in a BBC television interview that sparked immediate criticism in Britain.

Le Pen described the Republican’s win as a “victory of the people against the elite” and said she hoped a similar outcome could be achieved in French presidential elections in May.

“Clearly, Donald Trump’s victory is an additional stone in the building of a new world, destined to replace the old one,” she told the BBC’s flagship Sunday politics programme, the Andrew Marr Show.

Trump “made possible what had previously been presented as impossible,” she said, predicting that the “global revolution” that resulted in his election, as well as in the vote for Brexit, will also see her elected as president.

Renzi Urges Italians Abroad to Vote ‘Yes’

Brochure on December 4 referendum

(ANSA) — Rome, November 11 — Premier Matteo Renzi said Friday in a letter to Italians abroad that his constitutional reform will “make Italy stronger”. The two-page brochure features photos of Renzi with various international heads of state, and explains how to vote from abroad by December 1.

Italians living in their home country will be called to a yes/no vote in a referendum on the reform on December 4. “Today we are at a crossroads,” Renzi wrote. “We can go back to being those that evoke sniggers abroad, the ones that never change, that are notorious for their attachment to their seats and for brawling in parliament. Or, we can show…that finally something is changing, and that we’re becoming a credible, prestigious country”. The young center-left premier went on to point out that “everybody has been promising this reform for decades, debating it on TV and in parliament, filling newspapers and social media (with it). But they forgot to actually carry it out. Now the reform is here, it’s cleared six readings in parliament and now depends on the vote of citizens. Yes, including yours”.

Richest 1% of Italians Own 23.4% of Net Wealth — Oxfam

Two in three ‘strongly aware’ of income inequality

(ANSA) — Rome, November 10 — The richest 1% of the Italian population owns 23.4% of net national wealth, Oxfam Italia director Roberto Barbieri said on Thursday.

The divide is a “disturbing and unhealthy inequality, both from an economic point of view and from one animated by more ethical considerations,” Barbieri said of the picture to emerge from a Demopolis study carried out for Oxfam. On an international level, “62 moneybags own the same amount of wealth as the poorest half of the global population, namely 3.6 billion people,” he added.

Two in three Italians are “strongly aware” of income inequality and “over 60% consider the concentration of assets and access to the job market to be two further areas in which inequality can be seen most clearly in Italy,” the study found. In addition, 61% of Italians believe inequality has grown over the last five years.

Some 82% of the population pointed the finger at the “unfair tax system” and 85% called for clearer measures to prevent tax evasion or avoidance by multinational companies and wealthy individuals to the detriment of the State and the collectivity.

The study also revealed a high level of support for greater transparency concerning taxation.

Specifically, 86% of Italians are in favour of measures allowing the real beneficiaries of companies, foundations and trusts to be fully disclosed; and 76% support the request for transparency in the balance sheets of multinational companies by obliging them to publish information on their activities and profits and on the taxes paid in every country where they operate.

UK: Prison Race War Fears After Convicted Murderers Set Up Gangs to ‘Protect’ Themselves From Muslim Inmates

Some of Britain’s most dangerous convicts, including convicted murderers, have set up sinister gangs to ‘protect’ themselves from Muslim inmates.

One new network, Death Before Dishonour (DBD), has reportedly prompted a security warning to governors after recruiting members from Close Supervision Units, which house the most violent prisoners.

There are fears the gang could lead to existing tensions between Muslim and non-Muslim inmates escalating ‘beyond all control’.

Al Qaeda on the Run — Trump Induces First Major Policy Change on Syria

The people loyal to the Syrian government are happy with Donald Trump winning the U.S. election:

At the passport counter, a Syrian officer’s face lit up when he saw an American traveler.

“Congratulations on your new president!” he exclaimed, giving an energetic thumbs up. Mr. Trump, he said, would be “good for Syria.”

The first significant step of the new administration comes while Trump is not even in office. Obama, selfishly concerned with his historic legacy, suddenly makes a 180 degree turn and starts to implement Trump polices. Lets consider the initial position:

The Obama administration, through the CIA led by Saudi asset John Brennan, fed weapons, training and billions of dollars to “moderate rebels”. These then turned around (vid) and either gave the CIA gifts to al-Qaeda in Syria (aka Jabhat al Nusra) or joined it themselves. The scheme was no secret at all and Russia as well as Syria pointed this out several times. The Russian foreign Minister Lavrov negotiated with the U.S. secretary of State Kerry who promised to separate the “moderate rebels” from al-Qaeda. But Kerry never delivered. Instead he falsely accuse Russia of committing atrocities that never happened. The CIA kept the upper hand within the Obama administration and continued its nefarious plans.

For Many in the Mideast, Mercantilism Will Shape Trump’s Approach to the Region

For Patriarch Sako, old unclear policies have been rejected, but a sense of “foreboding and fear” for the future remain. The White House’s new resident is more a businessman than a policeman of the international order. Obama leaves a region worse off. Questions remain over Gulf States alliances with the Gulf and the future of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Beirut (AsiaNews) — Amid fears, hopes, and official greetings, for the Middle East, economics and business will be the main themes of a Trump presidency, despite his vitriolic anti-Muslim statements during the election campaign.

For analysts and experts, trade and billion-dollar contracts will carry more weight for the 45th US president than human rights or minority aspirations, event if the region’s Christians are by and large pleased with the election’s outcome.

Arms sales to Gulf countries will continue despite Saudis’ “excesses” in Yemen, whilst the situation in Syria and Iraq should not change radically.

Unlike Clinton, had she won, Trump remains a puzzle, an unknown quantity full of uncertainties. For Chaldean Patriarch Mar Raphael Louis Sako, the vote shows how Americans but also the Mideast are tired of “unjustified wars, deaths, violence and destruction.”

Speaking to AsiaNews, the Chaldean primate points to widespread discontent “toward policies that lack clarity and balance. There is widespread hope that there might be a change in the interests of peace and stability.”

In Iraq, among both leaders and ordinary citizens, a feeling of satisfaction prevails at the outcome of the election; however, the latter “has not wiped out a general sense of foreboding and fear” about possible escalation and regional conflicts.

Meanwhile, several Arab and international commentators focus on Donald Trump’s business career. For The Economist, “though more a mercantilist than a policeman of the international order, he might not be averse to selling American protection. In the event of an escalation, will Mr Trump still defend Saudi Arabia? Probably so, for the right price.”

It remains to be seen whether and how the Republican-backed law passed in Congress (opposed by Obama) will affect relations between Washington and Riyadh. The law narrows the scope of the legal doctrine of foreign sovereign immunity, and targets Saudi Arabia over the 9/11 attacks.

In the Gulf, intellectuals and opinion leaders were surprised, some even shocked, by the Republican outsider’s victory and remain uncertain as to what will happen over the next four years.

Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, a professor of political science, chairman of the Arab Council for Social Sciences, and a visiting senior fellow at the London School of Economics, in an open letter published in Gulf News, writes, “I did not expect you to win and in all honesty, I did not want you to win either. [. . .] It is disappointing and disheartening to me and to millions around the world.”

Defining himself as a “concerned citizen of the world but I am also more concerned as a citizen of the Arab Gulf states,” the scholar sees Trump as a “nightmare” that brings political instability.

Noting that Trump talked “about the Arab Gulf states as though they are nothing but oil-rich countries that need to pay America for its military presence in the region”, the scholar said that “the ultimate test of his credibility in this part of the world” will be his pledge “to tear up the Iran nuclear deal on Day One in office”.

For other observers, failed US policies in the region in recent years favoured Arab elites and autocrats to the disadvantage of people. In view of this, Maha Yahya, director and senior associate at the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut called on Trump to “Act immediately to end genocide and population transfers”.

“The 45th United States president,” she writes, “inherits a fractured and splintering Middle East, presenting extraordinary foreign policy challenges.” One of those challenges is “gargantuan distrust of Arab citizens who believe the US [. . .] has actively obstructed their quest for a better future whether in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Egypt or Palestine.”

“To address the massive gap in citizen trust, the new US president also needs to shift American policy towards the Middle East from a predominantly security perspective focused on the fight against ISIL to one that engages with larger socioeconomic triggers for instability.”

Abdullah Al-Arian, assistant professor of history at Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service in Qatar, remembers the expectations that followed Barack Obama’s speech at Cairo University, which have remained largely unfulfilled.

Obama’s only success in his eight-year presidency is the nuclear deal with Iran. Hence, his successor should start with this agreement, which has overcome decades of mistrust and hostility, as a “model” in relations with the governments and peoples of the region.

Others hope that Trump might open a new chapter in the fight against Islamist extremism, noting that Obama’s “ambiguities” would have continued or worsened in case of Hillary Clinton’s victory.

“The revelations of multimillion-dollar donations to the Clinton Foundation from Qatar and Saudi Arabia killed my support for Clinton, writes Asra Nomani, a former Wall Street Journal reporter and a co-founder of the Muslim Reform Movement, in a letter to the Washington Post.

Two patterns seem to be emerging in US-Middle East relations. They will shape the future political, economic and strategic choices of the new US administration.

Even though many Middle East problems are self-inflicted, there is a widespread feeling in the region that the situation today is “far worse” than in 2008, when Obama took office for the first time at the White House.

This is made that more complicated by the general “uncertainty” about the first decisions the new president will take and their repercussions for the region, especially since he is seen as the most unpredictable US leader since the 19th century, a man who has flip-flopped on many issues.

The future indeed appears uncertain.

At Least 2 Dead in Powerful New Zealand Earthquake, PM Says

At least two people were killed after a powerful earthquake struck New Zealand near the city of Christchurch early Sunday morning, Prime Minister John Key said during a news conference.

The magnitude-7.8 earthquake sent strong jolts felt over 120 miles away in the capital, Wellington, and prompted emergency services to warn people along the coast to move to higher ground to avoid tsunami waves.

The quake struck just after midnight in a mostly rural area close to the city of Christchurch, according to the USGS.

Renzi Berates East European Walls Against Refugees

Italy premier calls for united, ethical EU

(ANSA) — Pescara, November 11 — Premier Matteo Renzi on Thursday berated the “selfishness” of Eastern European countries that build barriers against refugees, 27 years after the fall of the Berlin wall.

“They raise new walls, focusing on their sometimes egotistical point of view with respect to the building of a community based on solidarity,” the center-left premier told mayors and businesspeople in the Abruzzo city of Pescara.

“Europe cannot be founded on austerity algorithms designed by community bureaucrats,” Renzi said.

“Europe must not be a jumble of egotistical entities, but a framework of united and ethical countries,” he said.

This principle will be upheld at celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the EU to be held in Rome in March, he added.

Renzi was in the Abruzzo city to inaugurate an anti-seismic school, among other stops.

Trump Reveals Immediate Plans on Deporting Illegals

(CBSNEWS) — President-elect Donald Trump’s hard-line immigration stance was a central part of his campaign message in 2016 — and he said in an interview airing Sunday that he plans to immediately deport approximately two to three million undocumented immigrants.

“What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million, we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” Trump said in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes.” “But we’re getting them out of our country, they’re here illegally.”

He continued by saying that after the border is “secure,” immigration officials will begin to make a “determination” about the remaining undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

Is a Real Civil War Possible?

The very idea of America is in disrepute, and held in contempt.

It used to be the Reps and the Dems differentiated mostly on ideological grounds. Now it’s much more on cultural grounds. Allow me to identify the elephant in the room, and spell out the real nature of the Democratic Party.

The Democratic party is a cesspool filled with leftist social engineers, academics, busy-body pundits, the “elite”, cultural Marxists, race baiters, racial “minorities” who see race as their main identity, radical feminists and LBGT types, entitled underachievers, statists, the soft-headed, the envy-driven, the stupid, professional losers, haters of free markets, and people who simply hate the idea of America. I can’t imagine anyone of good will, or even common decency, being a member of today’s Democratic Party. It needs to be flushed. But it will only get stronger in the near future, for many reasons.

But it’s an honest party-they generally say what they believe, even if it’s repulsive to anyone who values things like liberty. Interestingly, there are no Dinos-unless they’re Stalinists or Maoists who think the others aren’t going far enough. The party has absolutely no redeeming values.

  1. “Sting even sang the Arabic expression “Inshallah (God willing),” calling it “a magnificent word.” The room applauded…”

Sting could have sung that other Arabic expression ” Allahu Akbar!” for some reason he chose not to. Inshallah encompasses the fatalistic outlook of muslims. If something bad happens,(like being killed in a terrorist attack) don’t worry, it was all part of Allah’s will. I’m not sure why concert goers would find that worthy of applause.

    • Baucent, that makes two of us.

A terrorist attack takes place, and the first act is one of appeasement. Mustn’t offend them! I despair of Europe.

      • Sting STINKS!

Why is any credence given to these over paid, self absorbed, egotistical and brain dead so called stars and celebrities in the first place?

This idiot heads the queue for banal comments, ship them all off to Saudi Arabia or Qatar where I’m sure they will feel much happy

More fool the pathetic audience that applauded this treacherous behaviour instead of chucking him off the
        Stage in the first place?

        SJW’s just never learn!

    • It is all so disgusting and rotten . Imagine that just a year ago innocents were gutted, decapitated, eyes gouged out, screaming in agony for mercy – in that same place. Somehow Muslims have also ripped out our scruples.

      • A site where the cult of Muslims will build a mosque one day. By then it will be a no go area for the landless French. Same all across Western Europe if the man in the street continues to give the Muslims right of way. Islam has sufficient millions of infiltrators now to turn anywhere into Beirut. And “they” say “they” are concerned about our good neighbours the Russians.?

  2. “In other news, a strong 7.8 earthquake struck New Zealand, killing at least two people and causing a tsunami.”

    “Inshallah” isn’t that right Sting?

  3. Unlikely that Trump will win the popular vote. The link posted says it got its numbers from “twitter accounts.” Let’s not do that to ourselves.

There is no doubt, though, in my mind that the failure of, for example, Google to update its electoral college numbers to show Trump landslide, is still part of the war on people’s minds. It hasn’t stopped. They are still at 290, instead of the 306 they should be at.

    • On the other hand, each Trump appointment is making news as people wait to see how his strategy aligns with his campaign promises.

They may be trying to get the story of the popular vote win by Clinton to grow legs, and this may be one of the legs they hope to use. It isn’t gonna work but Leftists never give up and never give in…

    • I hear Trump is going to forego his $400,000 Presidents Salary.

Perhaps he can donate it to the Clinton Foundation now Bill & Hillary look set to lose their traditional source of income.

      • Look forward to that interview of Hillary on CNN where she will say “After the election campaign we were dead broke.”

  4. Note: In colloquial usage Inshallah can mean either ‘Allah wills it” or “Allah willing”.

“Muslims screaming “Allahu akbar” murdered 89 people in the Bataclan theater last November. Now Sting, reopening the place, sings “Inshallah,” calling it “a magnificent word.”

This is the familiar Islamopandering that we see from the Leftist intelligentsia every time there is a jihad plot or jihad massacre: the best and the brightest have all internalized the idea that their first responsibility after every such attack is to make sure that no one thinks ill of Islam. Anyone who dissents, meanwhile, is tarred with charges of “bigotry” and “Islamophobia.”
    (Jihad Watch – November 13th, 2016)

Sting needs to be stung. S III.

    • “This is the familiar Islamopandering that we see from the Leftist intelligentsia…”

I’m coming increasingly to the opinion that this kind of display is mainly a plea to Muslims to not carry out an attack again, at least not while Sting is there.

The security denied entrance to a band member of “Eagles of Death” who correctly criticized the security of the Bataclan the night of the massacre, and probably incorrectly implied the security conspired with the jihadists. Eagles of Death also criticized French gun control, asking if the gun control measures had prevented a single death at the concert.

It would have been nice if security had been as vigilant when actual armed terrorists entered the hall, rather than when someone critical of the security tried to come in.

It’s always easier and safer for officials, bureaucrats, and corporate time-servers to enforce measures against civilized Westerners than against Muslims. Interactions with Muslims, except to surrender, poses real risks.

  5. Sting is terrible. What a distasteful way of opening a show in a venue forever known for being the site of an act of Islamic terror. But else can be expected, for the credal tenets of Multiculturalism must always be affirmed, right?

  6. Bills of Attainder are forbidden by the Constitution. If that were not so, George Soros would be a superb candidate for one.

    • However, letters of marque are not forbidden; specifically Congress has the authority to issue them. I am sure there are many people out there who would work for free to bring that aged jabba-the-hut looking slug from the moral dregs of humankind before justice. And with a Trump-appointed AG, chances are pretty good he would face it.

  7. Regarding Sting.
Let`s face it, many so called celebrities are just plain idiots when it comes to simple facts of life and reason.

I really had to laugh when he was getting a nose job after his minor part in the movie Dune. 😉

    • Arrogant Harkkonen heir… What a fitting role for the spoiled “muscician”. Maybe life will imitate art and he will meet his end by the blade of a jihadi…

  8. But there is some parallel to how the survivors of Charlie Hebdo behaved.

Attacking and defaming people all over Europe who declared solidarity with them.
Because they were not the same leftist fools, and therefore unwelcome.

  9. and “Amen” means “let our intention be fulfilled.”

Muslims: Our intention is to colonize France and all the all “sick Continent of the sick Man.”
    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen
Muslims: insha allah let these massacres increase and their comatose state be prolonged until we achieve our colonization.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen

Muslims: Let their Parties strangle each other and prevent the Alert Party come to power and resist us, inshallah.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen

Muslims: Insha allah to pave the way for colonization make them so stupid as not to know what is right or wrong or know theirs interest.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen

Muslims: When we rape their women and teens let them justify and find excuse for our violence and make them cowards so that they won’t charge us , and if they do and convict us terrorize the judge so as not to give long sentences, and if there is a nominal sentence let the infidels reduce it by more than half for good behaviour. By the way the violent behaviours is the most acceptable behaviour for the infidels, insha allah .

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen.

Muslims: Let them not distinguish ages, so as an adult, with a full beard and mature testicles will look like a child to the stupid bleeding hearts, insha allah.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen.

Muslims: Let their welfare state and democracy be means to enslave themselves voluntarily to us and see their TRAITORS as kind, charitable humanists.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen.

Muslims: Let them delusional so that they see their dictatorship as perfect democracy.
    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen.

Muslims: Let the women and girls that we have raped go and hold a post with: Refugees Welcome”

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen

Muslims: let then not see us as their real enemy but make them create another enemy so as to facilitate our colonization of them. inshallah.

    Lefties/liberal/ humanists: Amen

  10. With reference to the change.org petition asking the Electors to break faith and elect Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump, I think it would be a good idea to start a competing petition asking the Electors to keep faith and elect Donald Trump. The text could point out, simply, that the voters chose Donald Trump, and ask the Electors to honor the trust placed in them, and keep faith with the voters. This website and others could then spread the word. I can’t usefully start the petition myself, because I’m British, (and as a practical matter, my 2011 Linux system can’t cope with the change.org website). Suggested petition:

    Petitioning Electoral College Electors

Honor the trust placed in you, and keep faith with the voters on December 19

The voters of the USA have chosen Donald Trump as the next US President. Please honor the trust placed in you, and keep faith with the voters on December 19.

        • The link in my comment above might have gone to a petition page that could not be signed, due to missing a piece at the end of the web address. Hopefully the following link will work:

          https://www.change.org/p/electoral-college-electors-electoral-college-keep-faith-with-the-voters-on-december-19?recruiter=21275813&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLinke

If anyone tries to sign the petition, and finds that it doesn’t work, I would really appreciate hearing about it. My email address is chris at chrisaustin dot info.

Daniel Brezenoff’s petition, which asks the Electoral College Electors to break faith with the voters, and elect Hillary Clinton instead of Donald Trump, currently has more than 4 million signatures. My petition is intended to oppose that, but it seems to be difficult to get it off the ground. I don’t know if this is due to a technical difficulty with change.org, or what. I would really appreciate any hints, if anyone has any idea what is going wrong.

          • Since I live under a pseudonym, I can’t sign it. Also, it asks for too much information from a dissident for me to feel the information might be used against us.Finally, Chris, you’re in the UK – when push comes to shove, your petition could well be disallowed for that reason.

I live in a paranoid world now, given the damage I’ve seen done to others, e.g., Diana West. Thank you, Democrat National Committee and all the other Alinsky-ite Progressives for your many attempts to shut down dissent from your cultural Marxist world view.

BTW, this kind of brouhaha happens whenever a Democrat narrowly wins the popular vote and loses the electoral college vote. The EC was established to keep what de Tocqueville called “the tyranny of the majority” from taking over governance of the U.S. It’s not going anywhere.

            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_College_(United_States)

The United States Electoral College is established by Article Two of the United States Constitution to select the President of the United States and Vice President. Citizens of the United States vote in each state at a general election to choose a slate of “electors” pledged to vote for a party’s candidate.[2][3] The candidates who receive an absolute majority of electoral votes among the states are elected President and Vice President of the United States when the Electoral College vote is certified by Congress.

There are currently a total of 538 electors, corresponding to the 435 Representatives, the 100 Senators, plus three electors for the District of Columbia as provided for in the Twenty-third Amendment. Each state chooses electors amounting to the combined total of its U.S. senators and representatives.[4] The Constitution bars any federal official, elected or appointed, from being an elector.

(those #s are footnotes in the original).

Also remember that Hillary won a plurality of votes, not a majority.

            http://www.ibtimes.com/popular-vote-update-why-hillary-clinton-didnt-win-majority-electorate-2447571

If a winner were to be decided by popular vote only, both candidates would have run a very different campaign.

The loser is going under, clutching at straws…

  11. Thanks very much for responding, Dymphna. I hope you are feeling better now. I tried to tip your tip cup, but PayPal complained that my browser is out of date, and asked me to upgrade it. I can’t do that without a complete upgrade of the operating system, (Debian 6 to Debian 8), and I can’t risk that at them moment, because I only have one working computer. I can’t pay by PayPal anywhere, now.

The petition now has a second signature, so I know now that it does at least work. I’ve been writing to Republican Senate staffers, because I thought they might be sympathetic, but I was sending a very long message at first, (the Baron might also have got one of those). Then I got a reply from someone, “Please remove me from your mailing list. Thank you.” This was sent from an iPhone, and I realized I may have been annoying people by sending a long message. So now I’m just sending an extremely short message, and I’ll carry on working at that for a bit, to see if there’s any progress.
