Deutsche Disaster Plan? Merkel ‘Preparing’ Emergency Bailout for Leading German Bank

ANGELA Merkel’s government is preparing an emergency plan for Deutsche Bank should the lender need to be rescued amid a raft of expected lawsuits and fines, according to reports in German newspapers.

Germany Denies Preparing Deutsche Bank Rescue Plan

The German government denied it was working on a rescue of Deutsche Bank (DBKGn.DE) as Germany’s biggest lender boosted its balance sheet by selling its British insurance business on Wednesday.

Deutsche is facing a $14 billion fine from the U.S. Department of Justice and concerns over its funding pushed its shares to a record low on Tuesday and heightened concerns about the health of the financial sector in Europe’s largest economy.

The finance ministry dismissed a newspaper report that a rescue plan was being prepared in case Deutsche was unable to raise capital to pay for costly litigation.

Weekly Die Zeit had reported that the German government and financial authorities were working on possible steps to enable Deutsche to sell assets to other lenders at prices that would ease the strain on the lender.

The German government would even offer to take a direct stake of 25 percent in an extreme emergency, the paper said without saying where it got its information.

The government was still hoping Deutsche would not need state support and only scenarios for a potential rescue were being discussed so far, Die Zeit added.

“This report is wrong. The German government is not preparing any rescue plan, there is no reason to speculate on such plans,” the finance ministry said in a statement…

Germany’s Banks Huge Threat to EU, Warns Ex-Chancellor Lord Lamont

GERMANY and Italy’s troubled banks have the potential to tear apart the the European Union, according to former chancellor Lord Lamont.

The bloc’s biggest economy is not immune to the problems related to its lenders, while Italy’s financial sector is also in a dire circumstances, said Lord Lamont.

He said: “The biggest threat to Europe is the banking crisis.

“I think Italian banks are in a very serious situation. I think German banks are probably in a very serious situation, too.”

It comes as Deutsche Bank’s share price this week plunged to record lows, prompted by comments that Angela Merkel’s government would not rescue the bank if it needed help.

Major Fund Manager Panics at Edge of Economy: “Now is the Most Treacherous Time Ever”

This article was written by Tyler Durden and originally published at Zero Hedge.

Editor’s Comment: The zero percent interest problem is continuing to wreck the economy. It has removed the incentive for investment and the growth of new businesses, and has instead rewarded investment into the most bloated and inefficient mechanisms of the state.

The private sector is being forced to invest in government largess at the expense of people who were once their consumer and production base — but are now reduced even further to wards of the state.

$356 Billion Fund Manager: “Now Is The Most Treacherous Time Ever. I’ve Never Seen This In My Career”

by Tyler Durden

Last week we reported that Tad Rivelle, fund manager at the $195 billion TCW Group, uttered a harsh warning, telling readers of his newsletter that “the time has come to leave the dance floor,” providing numerous examples and anecdotes as to why that is the case.

Today it was the turn of Joe Baratta, the top dealmaker at Steve Schwarzmann’s $356 billion Blackstone Group, to follow up with a comparable warning.

Speaking at the WSJ Pro Private Equity Analyst Conference in New York, Baratta said that “for any professional investor, this is the most difficult period we’ve ever experienced”, adding that “You have historically high multiples of cash flows, low yields. I’ve never seen it in my career. It’s the most treacherous moment.”

Charlotte Motorists Describe Being Surrounded by Feral Black Lives Matter

Editor’s Note: This is only going to become more common. Which way, White America? Huddled in gridlocked cars as a roiling street protest bore upon them in the darkness, motorists pleaded with 911 operators for help in the week’s first wave of violence early Wednesday. Scenes of chaos were described in recordings released Monday by the city of Charlotte. Starting around 1:30 a.m., calls poured in to the emergency communications center as demonstrators angered by the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott flooded onto W.T. Harris Boulevard and Interstate 85. One of the first calls came from a woman in a Chrysler 300 stuck in traffic at Harris Boulevard and North Tryon Street when demonstrators began pounding on cars. “I’m trapped,” she said. “They’re all in the street … Oh my God, they’re coming!”

Clinton Privately Opposed Major U.S. Nuclear Upgrade

Hillary Clinton privately told supporters this year that she would likely scrap a major upgrade to the United States’ nuclear weapons program, according to leaked audio of her remarks.

At a private event in McLean, Va., in February, Clinton revealed that she would likely cancel plans to upgrade the nation’s cruise missile arsenal. “I certainly would be inclined to do that,” she told a questioner who asked about rolling back the Long Range Stand-Off (LRSO) missile program.

Audio of Clinton’s comments at a gathering of major campaign supporters in February were revealed by hackers who breached the email account of a campaign staffer. One email released by the hackers contained a recording of Clinton’s remarks and a subsequent question-and-answer session.

Congress Rejects Obama Veto of Saudi 9/11 Lawsuits Bill

Congress has voted to override President Barack Obama’s veto of a bill that would allow families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabian officials.

In the first veto override of his presidency, the Senate voted 97-1 and the House of Representatives 338-74, meaning the bill become law.

The White House described the move as “embarrassing”.

The president argues the bill could expose US companies, troops and officials to potential lawsuits abroad.

CIA Director John Brennan said: “The downside is potentially huge.”

Congress Rejects Obama Veto of 9/11 Bill, In First Override of Presidency

Congress on Wednesday overwhelmingly rejected President Obama’s veto of a bipartisan bill letting families of Sept. 11 victims sue the Saudi Arabian government, in the first successful veto override of Obama’s presidency.

Marking a significant defeat for the White House, the House ensured the bill will become law after voting 348-77 to override Wednesday afternoon. This followed a 97-1 vote hours earlier in the Senate.

Despite last-ditch warnings from the Obama administration that the legislation could hurt national security and was “badly misguided,” lawmakers dismissed the concerns.

“This bill is about respecting the voices and rights of American victims,” Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., speaking on the Senate floor moments before Wednesday’s vote in that chamber, pushed back hard on Saudi government objections to the legislation.

“It’s very simple. If the Saudis were culpable, they should be held accountable. If they had nothing to do with 9/11, they have nothing to fear,” Schumer said.

EFF Slams HP Inc

Rights warriors demand reverse-ferret on printers snubbing unofficial cartridges

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has written to HP Inc demanding it reverse its attempt to prevent any third-party ink cartridges or refilled cartridges from working in its Officejet Pro printers.

HP Inc, and many other printer makers, have traditionally sent users a Doomsday warning message when anything but their own expensive cartridges are detected. These warn you of possible damage to the machine and that normal high standards might not be maintained by your use of cheaper products.

But HP Inc’s latest firmware upgrade masquerading as a security update appears to stop any printing happening at all.

The EFF objects that HP is depriving its customers of a useful feature — to use any ink they choose.

It further accuses the ink giant of abusing the security update process by introducing doubt into the update and patching process.

Europa Orbiter Could Sample Jovian Moon’s Watery Plumes

NASA’s Europa orbiter mission, set to launch toward Jupiter’s moon in the 2020s, would be able to collect samples of the icy plumes of water that might erupt from Europa’s surface, mission scientists say.

Yesterday (Sept. 26), using Hubble Space Telescope observations, scientists announced the possible detection of icy water plumes erupting from the surface of Europa. Another study, in 2012, had reported the possible detection of plumes from Europa, but the findings of both studies are far from certain.

Europa harbors a liquid water ocean deep below its thick, icy crust, and scientists think it’s possible that subsurface heat sources could create an environment fit for life. NASA’s Europa mission will evaluate the moon’s potential to host life. During a news conference yesterday, NASA scientists discussed whether the probe would be able to study the plumes and look for signs of life there.

Graffiti on Wall in Florida Includes ‘Black Lives Matter’ & “Kill White People”

One wall was hit along Gornto Lake Road in Brandon, with the phrase “kill white people” spray painted. Other tags read “black lives matter” and “BLM.”

A crew painted over the phrases.

“It’s uncalled for, there’s a way to protest, there’s a way not to, this is just, it hurts everybody,” Cat D’Alessandro said.

She saw a deputy along the road working to cover up the hate message, bought her own spray paint cans and helped out.

“I was kind of sad really because why does it have to be like, why does it have to get to this?” she said.

Hillary’s New Anti-Trump Poster Child is a Porn Star Accused of Driving a Murder Getaway Vehicle & Threatening to Kill a Judge

Yes, really!

Hillary Clinton’s new anti-Trump poster child is literally a porn star who was accused of driving the getaway vehicle for a murder attempt and later threatening to kill a judge.

But the media is saying Trump is the villain of the piece because he once said she was overweight (despite CNN reporting the same thing).

Let that sink in.

Hillary brought up Alicia Machado, who won the Miss Universe pageant owned by Trump in 1996, during the debate on Monday night, claiming that Trump once called her “Miss Piggy” because she gained a lot of weight while representing the pageant.

When CNN’s Anderson Cooper confronted Machado with her own sordid past, she didn’t try to deny it, simply waving her hand and scoffing, “I have my past, everybody has a past, I’m not a saint.”

Yeah, not everybody’s past includes being accused of acting as an accomplice in an attempted murder, Alicia. That’s kind of out of the ordinary.

Machado’s past also involved going on to do anal porn scenes for cash. Sounds like a classy lady.

But wait, that’s not all.

The former Miss Universe was also reportedly the incubus for the child of a notorious Mexican drug kingpin.

Hillary’s Debate Lies

With her comments about crime, policing, and race, the candidate helps push a false—and dangerous—narrative.

Huma Abedin’s Father: “the State Has to Take Over…overseeing That Human Relationships Are Carried on On the Basis of Islam”

by Robert Spencer

Does Huma Abedin also believe that the state should enforce Sharia? Now that these statements by her father have come to light, will she repudiate them? Will any mainstream media reporter ask her to do so? Almost certainly not.

Syed Abedin, the father of top Hillary Clinton aide Huma, outlined his view of Sharia law and how the Western world has turned Muslims “hostile” during a wide-ranging video interview that shines newfound light on the reclusive thinker’s world views, according to footage exclusively obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Abedin, a Muslim scholar who was tied to the Saudi Arabian government until his death in 1993, has remained somewhat of a mystery as the media turns its eye to his daughter Huma, a top Clinton campaign aide who recently announced her separation from husband Anthony Weiner following his multiple sex scandals.

Monsanto Gets the First CRISPR License to Modify Crops

Consumers won’t know if they’re eating GMOs, thanks to current laws

Monsanto announced last week that it licensed the CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing tool from the Broad Institute in Boston for use in seed development. The technology will allow the agritech giant to edit crops’ DNA by “snipping” away undesirable traits — or adding in more desirable ones — of the plants’ genetic codes. Frankenfood? [1]

What this means is that you’ll be eating even more GMOs, except you won’t know it, becausecompanies will be able to label them as non-GMO. Confused? Welcome to the world of biotech. Let me try and clear things up a bit.

Under current law, a food is only consider genetically modified if something is added to its genetic code. You can snip away all the DNA you want from a crop, and it is still considered non-GMO. It makes no sense, but that’s the way it works.

That’s bad news for individuals, but this license — and current law — is great news for Monsanto. The company will likely save years in the lab and within regulatory approval processes, not to mention at least $35 million per marketed trait in regulatory testing and registration expenses.

[Comment: Part of the agenda to “denutrify food” for the cattle (that’s globalist speak for us) while achieving a patent lock on all food produce. This quote is from a study of GM wheat in 2012 — “Professor Judy Carman, biochemist and director of the IHER, Flinders University, Adelaide, added: “If this silences the same sort of gene in us — as it silences in the wheat — — then, well, children who are born with this enzyme not working tend to die by the age of about five. And adults with this problem, just kind of get more and more sick, and more and more tired, until they get very very ill indeed.” http://www.naturalnews.com/037170_GM_wheat_liver_failure_GMO.html. http://www.naturalnews.com/genetically_modified.html. ]

(CHARLOTTE OBSERVER) A Milwaukee man was arrested by Charlotte Mecklenburg police and charged with intoxicated and disruptive behavior Saturday after he allegedly berated Milwaukee County Sheriff and popular Republican speaker David A. Clarke Jr. throughout a two-hour flight from Milwaukee to Charlotte, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Clarke is a well known champion of conservative causes and was a speaker at this year’s Republican National Convention. He is known as a supporter of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Flight passenger Preston Bluntson, 36, was arrested by police at around 7:10 p.m. Saturday. Both Bluntson and Clarke are African American, and Bluntson appeared appeared to be familiar with Clarke’s political affiliations and said the sheriff was “not one of us.”

The First Debate: Advantage, Clinton

by Srdja Trifkovic

The debate was not a hands-down victory for Hillary Clinton, as the media pack predictably claims, but on Monday night Donald Trump missed a great opportunity to damage her credibility and question her record. For that reason she has grounds to feel pleased with the outcome.

Clinton was the first to mention Wall Street, but Trump did not respond by stressing her close links with Goldman Sachs et. al, which is one of her many vulnerabilities. Just as inexplicably, he did not mention the Clinton Foundation once. Worse still, he failed to bring up the issue of deleted emails and private server when Holt asked a question on cybersecurity, and bizarrely talked about leaked DNC emails concerning Bernie Sanders instead.

Trump mentioned the “vacuum” in the Middle East created by Obama’s and Clinton’s policies. At that moment I expected him to follow up by raising the issue of Benghazi—which would have been an obvious and effective line of attack—but he talked about ISIS oil revenues instead, which was far less consequential point. He was strangely silent on Clinton’s immigration policy which still includes bringing in tens of thousands of Syrian refugees, even after a string of terrorist attacks by Muslim immigrants. He did not remind the audience of Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” blunder, not even when she boasted that she and President Obama had decided not to “go low” when attacking him…

Transcripts of Orlando Shooter’s Conversation With Police Reveal ISIS Influence

Holed up in an Orlando nightclub and surrounded by police, Omar Mateen told a hostage negotiator that he was angry about the death of a top Islamic State operative, according to recently released transcripts of their phone conversations during Mateen’s massacre earlier this year.

The new details of the conversations, released by Orlando Police last week, show Mateen had more than a passing interest in Islamic State, counterterrorism experts said. He specifically singled out the death of Abu Wahib, one of the more visible leaders of the terror group, as one of the main motivations for his attack. Abu Wahib was killed in an airstrike in Iraq just weeks before Mateen opened fire at the Pulse nightclub in June in an attack that killed 49 people and wounded 53. Mateen died in a shootout with police.

U.N. Demands U.S. Pay Reparations to Blacks

(DAILYCALLER) — A new report released by the United Nations concludes the United States owes reparations to African-Americans for slavery and recent police-involved shooting deaths.

The report was produced by the United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on African Descent and strongly condemned America’s “racist” history.

“In particular, the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent,” the report read, according to The Washington Post.

Bath Discovered in Roman Barracks in Bulgaria

Science & Scholarship in Poland reports that a team of archaeologists from the Center for the Study of Antiquity of Southeastern Europe at the University of Warsaw excavated a Roman barracks at the site of Novae in Bulgaria. Although the buildings had been constructed with wood, the floor of one large room had been made from hydraulic mortar, suggesting that the room had been used as a bath.

“Until now, throughout the empire only two baths in wooden buildings have been discovered, but never and nowhere in the barracks of legionnaires,” said archaeologist Piotr Dyczek. The team also uncovered terracotta and lead pipes, water channels lined with stone and bricks, and a collection of 48 coins dating from the beginning of the second century A.D. to the mid-third century A.D. Dyczek thinks the coins may have been hidden during the invasion of the Goths.

Border Control Measure ‘Illegal’: Norway’s ‘Migrant Fence’ Could be Torn Down Amid Blunder

The fence was commissioned by the Norwegian government after police chief Ellen Katrine Hætta demanded more resources to control the number of migrants entering the country from Russia.

However, it has now been discovered the construction could be illegal as 50m of the fence might have been built too close to the Russian border.

Could Neanderthals Hear & Speak Like Modern Humans?

The Christian Science Monitor reports that scientists led by Alexander Stoessel of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology examined the tiny bones of the Neanderthal middle ear. They found that although the bones look very different from the ossicles of modern humans, they amplified the vibrations received from the eardrum in a way similar to the modern human ear. This suggests that Neanderthals were capable of hearing the same range of frequencies as modern humans, and probably heard speech as modern humans did.

Previous research has found that Neanderthals and modern humans also had similar hyoid bones, a horseshoe-shaped structure that supports the tongue and the ability to speak. Unfortunately, a larynx, or voice box, which is formed from soft tissue, has not been found in the Neanderthal fossil record.

France: Saudi Princess ‘Told Guard to Kill Paris Decorator’

A Saudi princess has been accused of ordering her guard to “beat up and kill” an interior decorator in Paris.

It all allegedly started when the decorator took photos inside the woman’s apartment block on the chic Avenue Foch in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, reported Le Point newspaper.

The Saudi Princess accused the man of taking the pictures just to sell them to the press, although he said it was just part of the job.

“You have to kill this dog, he doesn’t deserve to live,” the princess allegedly told her bodyguard soon afterwards.

It’s alleged that the bodyguard then struck the decorator in the head before tying his hands.

The guard, who was (legally) armed, then reportedly ordered the Parisian decorator to kneel and kiss the feet of the princess, who is the daughter of the former king Khalid of Saudi Arabia.

France: ‘Five Terror Plots Thwarted’ on Riviera Since Nice Attack

Authorities in Nice say five potentially deadly terror plots on the French Riviera have been foiled since the Bastille Day truck attack in the resort.

In a documentary to be screened on Wednesday evening the prosecutor of Nice makes a chilling disclosure that as many as five serious plots have been thwarted since the atrocious truck attack on the Promenade des Anglais on July 14th.

In a documentary titled “Deradicalized” to be shown on France 3 prosecutor Jean-Michel Prêtre said the plots were planned to target particular sporting events, schools or places of worship across the Côte d’Azur.

“Several cases were handed over to the specialist counter-terrorist judges in Paris,” said Prêtre.

“They involved plots to attack places of worship or certain gatherings, sporting events, stadiums, schools, which are recurrent themes on the communication published on the internet.”

Geert Wilders for Breitbart: Let’s Lock the Door to Islam

Yesterday, I visited Maassluis. It is town near Rotterdam, where the indigenous Dutch inhabitants have become the victims of immigrant youths of Moroccan descent.

Cars have been demolished, houses vandalized, people threatened. The Dutch no longer feel free and safe in their own city. When the local radio station interviewed some of the victims and referred to the perpetrators as Moroccans, it received an anonymous letter: “You are racists! Your time will come! I won’t take care of it because I am too old. But our boys are the new soldiers.”

Maassluis. It is just one of the many Dutch towns and neighborhoods terrorized by Moroccan or Turkish youth gangs. Others are Schilderswijk, Oosterwei, Kanaleneiland, Zaandam, Helmond,… Not surprisingly, a poll shows that 43% of the Dutch people want fewer Moroccan immigrants in our country. These people are not racists; they are decent people, patriots who love their country and do not want to lose it.

The great Ronald Reagan once said that “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” These wise words are more true today than ever before. We are the free men and women of the West.

Freedom is our birthright. But if we fail to defend it, we are bound to lose it. And, sadly, that is exactly what is happening today.

2016’s Black Summer of Jihad, with terror attacks all over the free world, teaches us that the enemies of freedom are already among us. The ruling elites all over the Western world have accepted millions of people into our countries without demanding that they assimilate.

Many of these immigrants acquired our nationality. But some do not care for our country at all. They do not love it. They do not respect it. Nor do they respect us and our values.

They carry our passports, but they do not belong to us. They spit on our identity and behave like conquerors.

This is particularly true of many immigrants with an Islamic background. That is not surprising. Islam is a totalitarian ideology aimed at establishing tyrannical power over non-Muslims.

Islam commands its followers to make all nations submit to Islamic Sharia law, if necessary through the use of violence and terror…

Jihadists Target Spain

“The actions of your ancestors are the reason for our actions today.”

by Soeren Kern

The Islamic State document said that since the establishment of the Spanish Inquisition in 1478, Spain “has done everything to destroy the Koran.” It said that Spain tortured Muslims, including burning them alive. Therefore, according to the Islamic State, “Spain is a criminal state that usurps our land.” The document calls on jihadists to “reconnoiter airline and train routes for attacks.” It also calls on followers to “poison food and water” with insecticides.

“We will kill any ‘innocent’ Spanish infidel we find in Muslim lands, and… whether we are European in origin or not, we will kill you in your cities and towns according to our plan.” — Islamic State document, May 30, 2016.

“We will recover al-Andalus, Allah willing. Oh dear Andalus! You thought we forgot about you. I swear by Allah we have never forgotten you. No Muslim can forget Córdoba, Toledo or Xàtiva. There are many faithful and sincere Muslims who swear they will return to al-Andalus.” — Islamic State video, January 31, 2016.

Meet the Western Charlatans Justifying Jihad

by Giulio Meotti

Why has the philosopher, Michel Onfray, become so popular among the French jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq? Journalist David Thomson, a specialist in jihadi movements, explained that “Onfray is translated into Arabic and shared on all pro-ISIS sites.”

Onfray recognizes that we are at war. But this war, to him, was started by George W. Bush. He “forgets” that 3,000 Americans were killed on September 11, 2001. If you remind him that “ISIS kills innocent people”, Onfray will reply: “We have also killed innocent people.” It is the perfect moral equivalence between ISIS and the West. Barbarians against barbarians! With his moral relativism, Onfray opens the door to Islamist cutthroats.

The French intellectual Thomas Piketty, after the massacres in Paris, pointed at “inequality” as the root of ISIS’s success. Another well-known German philosopher, Peter Sloterdijk, claimed that the September 11 attacks were attacks were just “small incidents”.

The laws introduce restrictive criteria regarding the creation of new places of worship, and give regional authorities much greater power in deciding the location and appearance of religious sites.

Italy ‘Held Naval Manoeuvres With Iran’ In Strategic Strait

An Italian frigate has held manoeuvres with two Iranian warships in the Strait of Hormuz after making a rare Western port call in the Islamic Republic, an Iranian commander said Wednesday.

Listen to the World’s Oldest-Known Melody

The migrants from Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea and elsewhere keep coming. Almost 100 a day arrive at this dusty, ramshackle camp perched at the edge of the English Channel, just 31 miles from Britain, their ultimate goal.

Migrants Are Racist to Blonde Women, Swedish Ethics Professor Says

Professor of Ethics Ann Heberlein has argued that blonde people in Sweden are subjected to racist abuse and violence from “people with a non-European appearance”.

Ms. Heberlein, who appears regularly on Swedish Radio’s “Thoughts for the Day” and “Philosophical Room”, says blonde and Swedish victims of this racism choose to stay silent because “anti-racist” left wingers say that as a “privileged” group, ethnic Swedes have no right to complain.

Millions of North African Migrants Could Travel to Europe, Warns Egyptian President

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi claims five million migrants residing in the country and the number leaving in boats travelling to Southern Europe is increasing.

It is estimated the number of migrants to have left Egypt in 2016 is 12,000 with German news outlet Zeit Online claiming Islamic State militants are profiting from their movement.

Human traffickers, many of whom are believed to have links to ISIS, are said to be notching-up a tidy profit by charging migrants around £3,000 per person or £5,000 for a family.

President el-Sissi said the volume of ISIS fighters in his country is much larger than previously estimated and Egyptian authorities estimate 250,000 people are currently registered as refugees in the North African nation.

Italian authorities have also claimed efforts to coordinate with the Egyptian government to tackle illegal migration across the Mediterranean have been futile.

World’s First Baby Born Using New ‘Three-Parent’ Technique

‘Hopefully, this will tame the more zealous critics … and we will witness soon a birth of the first mitochondrial donation baby in the UK’

The world’s first child created using a controversial “three-parent” baby technique has been born in Mexico, it has been announced.

Limited details about the birth were revealed ahead of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine’s scientific congress in Salt Lake City next month, where it will be discussed more fully.

According to critics, the procedure is tantamount to genetic modification of humans or even “playing God”. But supporters say it allows women with a particular type of genetic disease to have healthy children who are related to them.

Facebook’s AI Boss is on a Mission to End Spoon-Fed Machine Intelligence

You need to feed a lot of information — 10 to 10,000 bits per sample — into the machine for it to make sense of the data and make crude predictions. But for real progression in AI, the machine should be able to predict any part of its input from what it has observed, such as being able to predict future frames in videos based on the sequences of actions it has seen before.

That type of learning is unsupervised and requires at least 100 times more computing power than supervised learning at millions of bits per sample.

Islam today is like communism in the early stages of the Cold War. They’re presenting young, disaffected people with an idealistic, tribal, utopian vision that is drawing in millions. And like communism, it’s inspiring violence all around the world.

If there’s one thing we learned from the battle with communism, it’s that the west can’t compromise on its values. It can’t apologize for itself, like the left constantly wants us to do.

Like Thatcher and Reagan, we must present future generations with a vision of the west that is compelling enough to beat Islam’s warped vision of the good society.

Where to Put the Next Billion People

Richard T. T. Forman and Jianguo Wu call for global and regional approaches to urban planning.

By 2030, 1.1 billion more people will live on Earth — bringing the total to about 8.5 billion. Most of them will arrive in dense Asian and African cities, exacerbating pollution and resource shortages. Urban expansion alters a city’s ‘big seven’: natural vegetation; agricultural land; clean water; jobs; housing; transport; and communities. Rapidly growing cities such as Kano, Niamey, Sikasso and Bobo-Dioulasso in sub-Saharan West Africa, for example, are already converting woodlands into irrigated farmland to feed their rising populations.

  1. “In other news, the leader of Catalonia says that his region will hold a referendum on independence, with or without the approval of the Spanish government.”

We must have referenda control now!

Matters are getting out of hand….

    I blame Brexit.

    • Brexit to blame? Catalonia was seeking independence way before anybody had even heard of Brexit. Still, I am very happy we are out.

      • Correct me if I’m wrong, but you are NOT out, and if May and others have their evil way, things will just drag on, and on, and on….

You are rid of Cameron, but now you must get rid of May, and somehow find someone honest to do the deed! Good luck!

        • Indeed, we are not.

It will be rather interesting to see if they renege on a democratic will on this one.

This was a democratic form only conducted in the belief it would go the elite way. It didn’t.

There are real stresses in our civilisation and I personally believe that matters are now beyond talking. It’s only a matter of time as to when the explosion will occur but occur it will.

I also believe that the highly sensitive and very confidential social surveys our masters will have access to will have told them this very clearly.

I think this is part of why we are seeing the almost totalitarian levels of social control measures being put in place.

          Time will tell as all.

  2. There are apparently three days left before Obama (and his motley crew) hand over Internet control to “others”! Has Gates of Vienna anything on this? Breitbart did
tonight when I checked it and received over 4,000 responses in the combox! October 1 is the designated day! Come on, Baron, surely this deserves exposure!? God bless GoV!

    • I cover it via the news feed — there have been many items on it. I don’t have time to write about it myself, because I don’t know enough about the topic in depth, and would have to spend hours researching it. But I’ll outline what little I know.

ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), and under it IANA (the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), are to be removed from the control of the Department of Commerce and handed over to “multilateral” (international) oversight, presumably the United Nations.

This has been coming on for many years, since long before Obama was president. There was resistance from Bush, but basically none from Obama. And more likely, active assistance at the behest of the UN crowd.

Now that Congress has totally surrendered its traditional role, there is nothing to stop a President from doing harm to the country. Congress — under the leadership of the REPUBLICAN Party, mind you — could stop this nonsense if it had the testicular fortitude. But it has institutionally gelded itself. So as far as I can tell, we are governed by the whim of the president with the permanent bureaucracy as his eager administrator.

We are to be handed over to the UN, and there isn’t a damned thing we can do about it.

Many thousands of people have been writing their Congressbeings for many months, to no avail. Congress is useless. All it does is roll over for the president. Its major function seems to be to pass continuing resolutions.

Although maybe I’m being uncharitable — it overrode its first Hussein veto yesterday. It only took eight years for it to manage one of those!
