Gates of Vienna News Feed 7/28/2016

Organizers of a dance music festival in Austria have tightened security for the event after recent terrorist attacks in Europe. And Spain has increased security at popular tourist spots for the same reason. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel says that she will not reverse her migration policies — she still thinks that “Wir schaffen das” — “We can do that.”

In other news, a cook in an Alexandria, Virginia restaurant refused to prepare food for a policewoman in uniform. When the story made it into the media, two employees at the restaurant were fired.

Catholics Must Resist Ethno-Nationalism

by Brandon McGinley

This neo-nativism is based on the myth of “white heritage” (about which Congressman Steve King of Iowa stupidly held forth during the Republican National Convention). It is, on the one hand, an understandable (if not excusable) reaction to the solidarity-starved society of secular liberalism. It is also, however, a peculiarly dangerous American tradition—the modern descendant of the laws and social codes once used to exclude everyone but northern European Protestants from full participation in American life.

Cook Refuses Service to Virginia Police Officer, Union Says

The restaurant said it is interviewing the employees involved

A cook at a restaurant in Virginia refused to serve a police officer in uniform Monday night, a police union says.

An officer in the Alexandria Police Department stopped by Noodles & Company on Duke Street in Alexandria for dinner, Alexandria Committee of Police Vice President Peter Feltham said.

As she stood in line, a cook exited the kitchen, approached the cashier and pointed at the officer, Feltham said he was told.

“You’re going to have to take me off the line, I ain’t serving that,” the cook allegedly said…

Dinesh D’Souza’s ‘Hillary’s America’ Is the Top-Grossing Documentary of 2016

Dinesh D’Souza’s anti-Hillary Clinton film, “Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party,” has quickly become the top-grossing documentary of 2016.

D’Souza’s doc has brought in $5.2 million in the first 12 days of its release, according to Box Office Mojo.

That puts the political documentary ahead of “A Beautiful Planet,” which only grossed $4.1 million this year.

“Hillary’s America” also beat out Michael Moore’s latest film, “Where to Invade Next,” which made $3.8 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter….

New ‘Reparations’ Website Calls on Whites to Offer Their Money and Free Services Such as Cleaning and Board to Black People Who Request it to Help ‘Relieve Their Privilege and Guilt’

A recently launched ‘reparations’ website is calling for white people to provide money and services to black people to relieve them of guilt and atonement from slavery.

Seattle-based artist Natasha Marin started the website that offers and suggests numerous ways where whites can give back to blacks to relieve their white guilt.

‘I invite People of Color to ask for what we need to feel better, be happier, be more productive by posting in this space. These may be both material and immaterial requests,’ she wrote.

‘I invite people who identify as White to offer services or contributions to People of Color in need of time, energy, substantive care, and support.’

The American Muslim March on Washington Flops

The Muslim Brotherhood front group, Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), proved incapable of drumming up much interest for The American Muslim March on Washington, which turned out to be quite the flop for its organizers on the evening of 23 July 2016. The logistical planning for this “Star Spangled Shariah” program on the National Mall near the Capitol Building began months ago, including a video introducing the event on the 9 May 2016 and a press conference held just 2 1/2 weeks after the 12 June jihadist rampage at the Orlando, Florida nightclub. Effusively portrayed as an opportunity for Muslims to unite “Against terrorism, hate, and violence” and rally for “Peace, Truth, Unity”, the American Muslim March on Washington instead went wobbly in its goal to “send a strong message to the rest of our nation and to the world.” It would appear that the dismal turnout of fewer than 200 people may indicate something of a factional division between Muslim Brotherhood rivals in North America.

While the Brotherhood leadership in the United States should have had ample time to rally its memberships, neither the United States Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) nor the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) promoted this gathering, intended to deliver a patriotic-themed taqiyya narrative about a peaceful Islam after a series of bloody jihadist attacks in the U.S. and Europe. A possible internal conflict between the leadership of ISNA and USCMO members has resulted (thus far) in ISNA still declining to become a member of the USCMO long after the announcement of its formation in March 2014…

Attack Inside French Church Shocks West, But Not Christians in Africa

The murder Tuesday of an elderly priest inside a church in France during Mass shocked and sickened the West, but Christians in Africa have long known there is no sanctuary from radical Islamic terrorism.

In 2015, more than 2,000 Christian churches in Africa were attacked by terrorists, and more than 7,000 Christians were killed, according to the advocacy group Open Doors USA. Those figures show terrorist groups like ISIS, which claimed credit for Tuesday’s attack, as well as Al Shabaab and Boko Haram, will not hesitate to kill inside a house of worship.

“News of the murdered priest in Normandy has shaken many to the core,” David Curry, president and CEO of Christian Watchdog group Open Doors USA told FoxNews.com. “While in Nigeria, an average of five churches are attacked every Sunday, this is the first documented case of Western Christians being attacked by ISIS during a worship service.”

Floating Underwater Tunnels Planned for Norway

Geographically speaking, Norway is an especially tricky place for motorists. With more than 1,100 fjords — the deep glacial water inlets that divide land masses — driving from point A to point B typically requires points C through Z, several bridges, and a couple of ferry rides.

To remedy the problem, Norway is undertaking an ambitious project to build a fully submerged floating traffic tunnel beneath the waves of the Sognefjord, a troublesome body of water that runs 3,000 feet wide and 4,000 feet deep.

France to Create New National Guard ‘To Protect Its Citizens’

France will soon have its own National Guard the president announced on Thursday as he aims to boost security to protect the French population facing repeated terror attacks.

President François Hollande announced on Thursday that a new National Guard would be created from existing reserve forces.

The move comes after a spate of recent terror attacks, including the killing of a priest as he gave mass in Normandy on Tuesday and the horrendous Nice truck attack which left 84 dead.

Following the atrocity in Nice, Hollande had announced that thousands of reservists would be called up to boost the under-pressure security forces suffering from fatigue after 18 months of heightened alert and repeated attacks.

French Priest Murderer: He Was a ‘Gentle’ Child

Abdel Malik Petitjean, 19, identified as the second attacker involved in the killing of a French priest, was described as perfectly normal by his incredulous family and friends.

Unlike his accomplice Adel Kermiche, also 19, Petitjean never raised suspicions for radicalisation among his neighbours, and was unknown to police until last month when he tried to go to Syria.

He and Kermiche, also a Frenchman born to an Algerian family, slit the 86-year-old priest’s throat at the altar. Another elderly worshipper was severely injured but several other hostages escaped unharmed.

Both assailants were shot dead by police.

Horror of Priest’s Murder Exposes the True Evil of IS, Says Leo McKinstry

EVEN in the gruesome wave of Islamic violence this week’s atrocity in a French Catholic church marks a new low point in depravity.

In its savagery and lethal bigotry the murder of 85-year-old Father Jacques Hamel in Normandy encapsulates the monstrous evil of Muslim radicalism.

This was the ultimate hate crime perpetrated against a priest whose offence was to embody the selfless doctrines of Christianity.

The contrast between his lifetime of gentle compassion and the barbarity of his killers could not be more stark.

What we are witnessing in western Europe is increasing intimidation, domination and occupation by Islam, while our leaders, instead of responding, just retreat behind their empty platitudes about the need for tolerance.

In the wars of the past the enemy had to use tanks, guns and planes.

Today the Islamist invaders are not only welcomed in ever growing numbers but are lavished with welfare support and official approval.

ISIS Terrorist Bragged About Plans Before Normandy Attack, Report Says

The ISIS terrorist who slit a priest’s throat and used a nun as a human shield during an attack in France on Tuesday bragged about his intended assault to an audience of up to 200 people on an encrypted communications app nearly a week before the spree.

The audio files recorded by Adel Kermiche for a private group on the Telegram app were obtained by L’Express magazine and verified for the publication by a source close to the investigation.

Kermiche, 19, says he will “enter a church, take a knife and make a carnage,” according to a translation of one chilling message.

The messages were found during the subsequent investigation into Kermiche, the source told L’Express. Kermiche and his partner, Abdel Malik, were killed by police as they exited the Normandy-area church, attempting to use nuns to shield themselves from bullets.

Not Just “An Absurd Murder, “ Pope Francis

by Lawrence A. Franklin

Yesterday at a Catholic church in France, there were two quite different types of martyrdoms.

Two young male Muslims, bent on waging personal jihad and thereby securing salvation through martyrdom, burst into the old church of St. Étienne-du-Rouvray in Rouen, Normandy during the morning Mass. There they martyred the 85-year old priest, Father Jacques Hamel. They slit his throat as if he were an animal killed for the recent Eid-al-Adha (“The Feast of Sacrifice”), celebrated by Muslims all over the world on the last day of Ramadan.

Pope Francis, in the Vatican, referred to this killing as “an absurd murder.” He could not be more wrong. This was a purposeful act of war against Judeo-Christian civilization. The murder of Father Jacques has great meaning. Our would-be replacements are telling us, “it is time for you to leave the stage of history.”

How ironic that this murder took place within a two-hour train ride of the Normandy Beaches. How tragic that the spirits of our fallen soldiers beneath the Crosses and Stars of David in the American Cemetery had to witness this act of aggression by still another totalitarian ideology.

Prehistoric Village Likely Torched by Bronze-Age Warriors

A fire that destroyed a Bronze Age village in the marshlands of eastern England around 3,000 years ago may have been set on purpose, possibly in a raid by warriors from a hostile group, according to a new archaeological study.

“We’ve been working with [a fire] investigator who works a lot with modern fires, and he thinks there’s a good chance that the fire was set deliberately,” said Selina Davenport, an archaeologist at the University of Cambridge.

The researchers found four houses that were likely all burned at the same time, which suggests it was a large fire, they said.

Spain Ups Security at Tourist Spots as Terrorism Fears Grow

A spate of terror attacks carried out by individuals in France and Germany has prompted Spain to boost security at tourist spots.

Spain’s tourist season is in full swing, one of its busiest ever due to the fact that holidaymakers are eschewing resorts in less secure countries such as Turkey and Egypt in favour for the relative safety of the Spanish costas.

“We remain vigilant in light of the call by Islamic State to cause harm to the powers involved in the international coalition,” anti-terrorism sources told Europa Press in a report published on Wednesday.

Security has been increased at key tourist sites across Spain, as well as on the country’s trains, where passengers have to put their bags through security scanners to check for firearms.

Verdict in on Bukovsky Libel Trial

by Diana West

A British court has ruled against Vladimir Bukovsky’s libel suit against the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

In brief (background here, verdict here, Bukovsky statement below), Bukovsky sued the CPS for libel over its public announcement in May 2015 that he was to be prosecuted for “making” five images of child pornography. This term of legal art, Bukovsky argued logically, implies to the average person that he was to be prosecuted as a child pornographer for “making” five images of child pornography. In fact, the state’s criminal case against Bukovsky, which will come to court in December, will turn on whether Bukovsky possesed five mages of child pornography on his laptop — which was very mysteriously seized by British authorities in October 2014.

Bukovsky denies all charges, and, further, sees his public torment as the latest phases in his 57-year-battle against the Russian intelligence behemoth.

A burning question remains as to why British authorities suddenly decided in October 2014 to seize the laptop of one of Britain’s leading citizens, a man of unsurpassed moral standing, living quietly, peacefully, lawfully in Cambridge. Who or what tipped them off?

Remember, this is the same Britain whose British authories have for years turned the blindest, coldest and most amoral eye to the despoliation of thousands and thousands of British girls throughout the country who have been sexually abused and marketed by Muslim “grooming gangs.”

When Will Our Politicians Accept the Reality of Islamic Terrorism?

by Douglas Murray

How is your Merkelsommer going? For now, Britain seems to be missing the worst. True, a couple of men of Middle Eastern appearance tried to abduct a soldier near his base in Norfolk for what was unlikely to have been an interfaith dialogue session. But Britain’s geographical good fortune, relative success in limiting weapons and our justified scepticism of the undiscriminating ‘open borders’ brigade mean that we have so far been spared the delights of what Angela Merkel’s growing army of critics refer to as her summer of terror.

A poll carried out two years before the Charlie Hebdo attacks showed that 74 per cent of the French public believe Islam to be an intolerant religion incompatible with the values of the French state. The reaction of most politicians to findings such as this is that the public don’t know enough about Islam or haven’t experienced enough Islam. On the contrary many French people — like the Christians of the Middle East — have experienced quite enough, and do not like it.

Mainstream politicians cannot agree with this, not least because they (and Merkel in particular) are responsible for the massive upsurge of Muslim migration into Europe that is fundamentally changing its future.

Cleric’s Kosovo Arrest Puts Iran’s Balkan Activities Under Spotlight

Iran’s promotion of its brand of Shi’ite Islam across the Middle East has been obvious for decades, but such activities in Europe largely managed to fly under the radar.

But its Balkans-centered efforts have come under scrutiny in recent years, leading to the arrest this week of an Iranian cleric in Kosovo on charges of financing terrorism and money laundering through a nominally nongovernmental organization he operates. Kosovar authorities claim Hasan Azari Bejandi, charged on July 26, ran five Shi’ite organizations with links to Tehran.

Ancient Egypt: A Brief History

Egyptian civilization has flourished continuously since prehistoric times. While the civilization’s rulers, writing, natural climate, religion and borders have changed many times over the millennia, Egypt still exists as a modern-day country.

The civilization has always been strongly connected with other parts of the world, bringing in and exporting goods, religions, food, people and ideas. At times ancient Egypt ruled territory outside the modern-day country’s border, controlling territory in what is now Sudan, Cyprus, Lebanon, Syria, Israel and Palestine.

The country was also occupied by other powers — the Persians, Nubians, Greeks and Romans all conquered the country at different points in time.

Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz if it Faces Military Action From ‘Enemies’

Iran is threatening again to close the Strait of Hormuz — a key Persian Gulf shipping route — “if the enemy makes a small mistake” and threatens the Islamic Republic, one of its generals boasted Tuesday.

The oil shipping waterway has frequently been the subject of diplomatic clashes between Tehran and Washington.

“If the enemy makes a small mistake, we will shut the Strait of Hormuz, kill their sedition in the bud and endanger the arrogant powers’ interests,” Iranian army’s Deputy Chief of Staff Brigadier General Ali Shadmani said, according to the Fars news agency.

Iran has used the Persian Gulf as a test site for rocket launches, the Times of Israel reports.

In January, Iran detained 10 American sailors whose patrol boats were traveling inside Iranian territorial waters near Farsi Island.

Campfires May Have Made Humans More Susceptible to Disease

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA—Mark Tanaka of the University of New South Wales thinks that the use of fire by early humans may have triggered the development of tuberculosis as a deadly disease. Tanaka and a team of researchers used a mathematical model to investigate ways that Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is benign when it lives in soil and water, might have developed into a pathogen transmissible between people. Tanaka’s team found that adding fire to the equation increases the risk of just such a mutation. Campfires enjoyed by early humans could have caused smoke damage to lungs, making them more vulnerable to infection.

Italy Launches Hard-Hitting Campaign to Put Off Migrants

An online project seeking to discourage migrants dreaming of a better life in Italy from making the dangerous journey to central Europe was launched by the Italian government on Thursday.

“Europe’s migrant crisis is an epochal struggle,” Italy’s Interior Minister, Angelino Alfano told journalists in Rome. “This communication campaign is just one of the ways in which we are seeking to tackle the crisis.”

The €1.5 million project, called ‘Migrant Aware’, will use a series of videos and recordings published online to warn sub-Saharan Africans of the dangers they face when crossing the Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea with illegal trafficking networks.

The project seeks to reach the 16-35 age group, who are most likely to make the perilous journey and makes use of a website, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram to diffuse its message.

The message involves a series of harrowing first-person accounts of the horrors more than 150 migrants faced on their journeys, with all testimonies available in English, French and Arabic in a bid to reach as many people as possible.

“It is a road to hell,” says 36-year-old west African, Tchamba while looking at the camera. “The traffickers don’t care if you live or die.”

Merkel Rules Out Migrant Policy Reversal After Attacks

Recent attacks in Germany involving asylum-seekers would not change its willingness to take in refugees, Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.

She said the attackers “wanted to undermine our sense of community, our openness and our willingness to help people in need. We firmly reject this”.

But she did propose new measures to improve security.

These include information sharing, deciphering web chatter and tackling arms sales on the internet.

Two recent attacks in Bavaria were both by asylum seekers. A suicide bomb attack in Ansbach on Sunday that injured 15 people was carried out by a Syrian who had been denied asylum but given temporary leave to stay.

An axe and knife attack on a train in Wuerzburg on 18 July that wounded five people was carried out by an asylum seeker from Afghanistan.

Merkel Thinks ‘We Can Still Do This’

German Chancellor Angela Merkel interrupted her holidays and took the hot seat at a press conference, facing questions on her refugee policies and the recent deadly attacks in Germany.

“We can do this” (“Wir schaffen das”), Angela Merkel said one year ago when she took the stage at her traditional summer press conference in Berlin.

It was her controversial declaration that Germany, in her opinion, was able to cope with the huge influx of refugees that came to the country that summer — and the start of her so called “welcome policy.”

In total, more than one million refugees arrived in the country in 2015. Merkel has been criticized for her comment ever since by right-wing populists and members of her own coalition alike.

After the string of recent attacks in Germany (three carried out by refugees), the pressure on Merkel is growing stronger. The populist AfD is attacking her policies of “uncontrolled immigration” as irresponsible; her sister party, the Bavarian CSU, has also sharpened its rhetoric.

But those, who expected a turn-around of her policies after the recent violence were persuaded otherwise at her press conference on Thursday. As calm and collected as ever, Merkel took the stage and emphasized: “We can still do this. We can manage this historic challenge.”

Chorus of Black Holes Sings in X-Rays

Supermassive black holes in the universe are like a raucous choir singing in the language of X-rays. When black holes pull in surrounding matter, they let out powerful X-ray bursts. This song of X-rays, coming from a chorus of millions of black holes, fills the entire sky — a phenomenon astronomers call the cosmic X-ray background.

Eject Western Traitors, Beat Islamic Terrorists

by Raymond Ibrahim

Today, Muslim terrorists, rapists, and criminals are not entering the West against its will but because of it.

Consider it by analogy. What if zoologists began to maintain that it’s false to say that lions naturally prey on zebras? So zoo directors—most of whom come from the ranks of the zoologists—start introducing lions into zebra enclosures. The inevitable happens: although well fed, lions continue doing what they’ve always done—chase and kill zebras. Yet, because it is a slanderous stereotype to say that lions by nature prey on zebras, the zoologists continue insisting on placing the two together.

Surely only a great fool would blame the slaughter of zebras on lions—who, after all, are merely being lions—while ignoring those who place lions with zebras in the first place?

This is the situation we are in.

How Comets Are Born

Detailed analysis of data collected by Rosetta show that comets are the ancient leftovers of early Solar System formation, and not younger fragments resulting from subsequent collisions between other, larger bodies.

Understanding how and when objects like Comet 67P/Churyumov—Gerasimenko took shape is of utmost importance in determining how exactly they can be used to interpret the formation and early evolution of our Solar System.

The Hunt for Exoplanets Turns to Earth’s Backyard

NASA’s next planet-hunting mission will take a census of Earth’s cosmic neighborhood.

The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), which is scheduled to launch to Earth orbit in 2017 or 2018, will observe at least 200,000 relatively nearby stars during its two-year mission, and it should end up finding thousands of alien worlds, NASA officials said.

The Nose Knows How to Kill MRSA

Bacteria from the human body produce an antibiotic that seems to kill resistant bacteria.

A new antibiotic was right under our noses — or rather, in them. Produced by a bacterium living in the human nose, the molecule kills the potentially deadly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in mice and rats.

When it Comes to Islam, Western Leaders Are Liars or Idiots

by Raymond Ibrahim

When it comes to the connection between Islam and violence against non-Muslims, one fact must be embraced: the majority of those in positions of leadership and authority in the West are either liars or fools, or both.

No other alternative exists.

    • I agree these, inbred mutants, these cultural misfits kill, murder, maim, and slaughter us practically at will and the end result it more security, erosion of out freedoms and liberty, and the sickening and tepid response from the sycophants ,lackeys and groveling apologists of Islam in the political class, academia and the MSM (the government media complex). Few if any long term solutions or plans are put forward. What the hell ever happened to the cutting off of the finances and the devious groups transferring cash to ISIS and other radical groups? It looks like no punishment for the purchasers of the Oil stolen by ISIS and somehow just ‘pops up’ on the international petroleum market No mention of sanctioning those caught dealing in the gigantic ‘Black Market’ of arms and supplies, any competent investigation would be able to trace the flow of supplies.
This war on ISIS will never even get started with all of the double dealing and back stabbing behind the scenes.

  1. If Merkel wants to embrace these migrants, if Germany wants to let her have her way then I say, fine. Go for it. But know this, you are in it alone. You cannot farm out your migrants to other countries when they answer Angela’s invitation and overwhelm German society. You cannot try and compel/blackmail/threaten other sovereign nations who are unwilling to play your game, who have more regard for their own citizens and culture than you have, to take the ‘overflow’ your bleeding heart has created. You will have to deal with it alone.

Germany wants migrants which threaten the stability of the EU, Germany wants to push for Turkey’s admission to the EU to ameliorate the situation Germany has caused. Germany wants other countries to ‘do their part’ and accept a ‘fair share’ of these migrants which they had no part in encouraging.

Germany wants this, Germany wants that. When did Germany become the ruler of the EU?
