The revelation that French president-elect François Hollande owns real estate worth €1.17 million has not dismayed his socialist supporters. After all, outgoing President Nicolas Sarkozy is reportedly worth €2 million, and is thus a genuine plutocrat. M. Hollande may aspire to reach the same level of wealth before he leaves office — who knows?
In other news, beer sales in northern Nigeria are down, due in part to the chronic violence and uncertainty created by the terror attacks of Boko Haram. People are less likely to leave home, and perhaps not in a mood to party. On the other hand, metal detector sales are up.
