Today’s news was dominated by the late Osama bin Laden and the worldwide fallout over his death. The Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan and other local Islamic fundamentalist groups have sworn to avenge his death, as has Hamas in “Palestine”. The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt says that the United States must now depart from the Middle East or face attack under sharia law as an “occupying power”.
Strangely enough, Mr. Bin Laden was buried at sea by the U.S. Military, ostensibly because it would have been hard to find a country willing to accept his body for interment. It seems to me that Pakistan would have been more than happy to provide his final resting place, but what do I know?
In other news, the latest reports indicate that it was Danish fighter jets that bombed the Ghedaffi family compound in Tripoli, killing Muammar Qaddafi’s son and three of his young children. The Italian and British embassies in Tripoli were attacked by angry mobs in reprisal for the death on the younger Ghadafi.
