Clinton Camp Still Challenging ‘Legitimacy’ of Trump Election

“Every day there are new developments and new shoes dropping, so to speak, that call into question the legitimacy of his win.”

More than two months after the presidential election, elected Democrats and members of Hillary Clinton’s inner circle continue to question the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s electoral victory.

CNN in Trump’s Crosshairs

CNN is fiercely defending its bombshell report and its reporter

CNN has become public enemy number one for Donald Trump and the latest media outlet to become entangled in a high-stakes stand-off with the president-elect.

Trump has long been critical of CNN, claiming it is biased against him and labeling it the “Clinton News Network.” During the presidential campaign Trump ripped the network as “dishonest as hell” and “disgusting.”

That feud escalated this week with CNN’s decision to run a controversial report highlighting Trump’s alleged ties to Russia, which provoked an explosive public exchange between Trump and CNN’s chief White House correspondent, Jim Acosta.

Under fire, CNN is fiercely defending its bombshell report and its reporter. Trump and his team are digging in against both, lashing out at the media outlet as “fake news” and threatening to ban Acosta from future events if he’s disrespectful to Trump again.

Confirmed: “Unknown” Republican, Democrat Paid for Anti-Trump Report

Having learned previously both the identity of the former British intelligence officer who compiled the “Trump dossier”, revealed by the WSJ earlier this week as former MI-6 staffer Christopher Steele, currently director of London-based Orbis Business Intelligence, and that John McCain was the person who delivered the report to the FBI, one question remained: who commissioned the original report meant to uncover a material,i.e., campaign-ending, weakness in Donald Trump’s past.

We now have an answer, or least a partial one. But first, a brief detour into just how Steele allegedly went about compiling his data.

In a report in Mother Jones, David Corn, who first broke the story that a former Western counterintelligence official had sent memos to the FBI with troubling allegations related to Donald Trump, writes about Steele’s experience shortly after being retained in June by a “private research firm” to look into Trump’s activity in Europe and Russia. Steele recalls that “It started off as a fairly general inquiry.” One question for him, he said, was, “Are there business ties in Russia?”

Corn then writes that the former intelligence official went to work and contacted his network of sources in Russia and elsewhere…

Maybe the reason why the FBI had taken no action is because they knew data was fake, and that Steele himself was the subject of a hoax, one either perpetrated by 4Chan as the message board has claimed, or he was the victim of a counter-disinformation campaign by Russian “sources” (yes, Russian spies don’t always tell the truth to UK spies) who meant to discredit Steele by providing him with purposefully wrong material…

So where do we stand now?

After a series of back and forths, Jeb Bush has been accused of funding the report, with his own SuperPAC immediately denying it, as it would of course, since there is no definitive evidence (yet?) of Bush’s involvement.

However, courtesy of Corn’s report, who is writing on behalf of Steele, we do know without dispute, that “the American firm was conducting a Trump opposition research project that was first financed by a Republican source until the funding switched to a Democratic one.”

Fire Burns Eastside Mosque; One Arrested

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Fire badly damaged an Eastside mosque early Saturday morning.

Officials are calling the fire suspicious, and one man is under arrest for investigation of arson.

Firefighters arrived at the Islamic Center of the Eastside in the 14700 block of Main Street at 2:49 a.m. to find 40-foot flames coming from the rear of the building. Firefighters managed to save half of the building and conducted salvage operations to preserve holy books and electronic equipment.

There were no injuries. No one was inside the building.

Bellevue police say a 37-year-old man was arrested behind the building. He is being investigated for arson. Police say he is the only suspect.

Police and fire investigators will be on the scene throughout the day to investigate the possible arson. Investigators from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have joined them.

Meanwhile, members of the community have been dropping off flowers and balloons.

Is This the Coup in America? “U.S. Troops on Russian Border” To Start War Before Inauguration

Is there a coup underway, while America is in the transition period, and before Trump swears in as the 45th president of the United States?

How real is the clash between the rogue Manhattan billionaire and the intelligence gang behind the throne? Who will win the struggle for power over foreign policy? These are serious times and require serious considerations.

The U.S. sent an entire armored brigade to the Russian border, and Vladimir Putin is preparing as if for war. Missile defense systems are raised; tall claims and serious charges have been leveled; diplomatic relations have chilled to a permafrost. Several Russian diplomats have turned up dead recently, including one murdered in front of cameras during a dramatic assassination in Turkey. Russia has bucked U.S. order in the Middle East, and carved out a potential peace deal in Syria without their consultation.

Things are reaching a flashpoint, and the system is concerned about controlling President-elect Trump given his rumored friendliness with Putin and plans to drop sanctions.

Will there be a “shock” designed to correct Trump’s foreign policy, and set-off the ticking time bomb between East and West into all-out hostilities?

Though these two world powers have clashed repeatedly in recent years, there several key factors that make this round extra alarming — and put a peaceful transition into question of exploding into total war, and an undermining force from within the deep state, CIA and shadow government:

Judge Jose Cabranes: Threats to Academic Freedom Are a ‘National Problem’

On Tuesday, Judge José Cabranes, who sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, published a towering defense of academic freedom in the opinions section of The Washington Post.

Judge Cabranes—a highly respected jurist as well as a former trustee of Yale, Columbia, and Colgate universities—has been sounding the alarm about threats to academic freedom for years now. But his latest article could not have come at a more critical time for faculty concerned about academic freedom on campus: Over the past few years, FIRE has seen a dramatic increase in cases involving investigation or punishment of faculty members’classroom expression, and these threats seem only to be increasing as more universities adopt broad policies under which students are encouraged to report any speech that offends them to administrators.

In his Post op-ed, Judge Cabranes cuts right to the chase, stating that “[r]ecent attempts to shame professors for unpopular views and to curtail the due process rights of those accused of misconduct are cause for alarm” and that “the erosion of academic freedom has become a national problem.”

Obama Unleashes NSA Cache of Your Details

A new door for government agencies to share “raw information” about citizens has been opened by a rules change made by President Obama, according to a report in Joseph Farah’s G2 Report.

It was made in a document called “Procedures for the Availability or Dissemination of Raw Signals Intelligence Information by the National Security Agency under Section 2.3 of Executive Order 12333.”

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, one of multiple privacy organizations expressing concern about the change, explains what is going on.

“President Barack Obama’s administration just finalized rules to make it easier for the nation’s intelligence agencies to share unfiltered information about innocent people.”

The organization reported the rules “will let the NSA — which collects information under that authority with little oversight, transparency, or concern for privacy — share the raw streams of communications it intercepts directly with agencies including the FBI, the DEA, and the Department of Homeland Security.”

Obama Stutters and Stammers Accusations Against Russia During His Final Push for War

As Obama’s days as U.S. President draw to a close, both the Obama administration and the mainstream corporate media are attempting to provoke a greater conflict with nuclear-armed Russia on the basis of something that never actually happened; at least on the basis of something that they have yet to prove has actually happened. Still, the hype and hysteria being piped from the halls of the White House, intelligence community, and the mouthpiece of the establishment, the corporate media, is incessant. According to the media and the President, the Russians hacked the DNC (never mind the fact that the DNC was acting inappropriately and rigging the elections themselves) and put American democracy at risk.

Of course, neither the intelligence community nor the White House has yet to produce any evidence of their claims, despite the fact that they are clearly provocations aimed both at Russia and the domestic population of the United States, with the intention to frighten the latter into submission with a healthy dose of Neo-McCarthyism and red-baiting. Still, this continuous and baseless propaganda might cause many Americans a number of flashbacks since the last time their President, intelligence community, and corporate media came to them with proof of an encroaching threat to democracy, telling them the evidence was clear but that the masses would simply have to “trust” them, Americans ended up bewildered on the battlefield in Iraq where they remain to this day, thirteen years on.

Once again, we are given no evidence, only vague unproven allegations to justify actions that very well may be destructive not only to the American people but to all the people of the world.

Peter Schweizer: Your Money is Being Used to Help Bankroll the World Economic Forum in Davos. Why?

Later this month hundreds of private jets are expected to descend on a small town in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, for a few brief days. They will be carrying the elite of the elite, who will be attending the World Economic Forum (WEF).

Held in the beautiful Alpine mountain resort of Davos-Klosters, attendance is strictly by invitation only. Basic membership in the WEF costs $50,000. A premium membership can set you back $500,000. But in recent years the WEF has enjoyed another source of income. Since 2013, the Obama administration has been sending foreign assistance dollars to the WEF through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). According to government records, the tab to taxpayers thus far is $26 million.

Realizing They Can’t Stop it, House Dems Seek to Slow ObamaCare Repeal by Trapping it in Committees

Let’s be blunt. Democrats know they’re boned. The electoral map, the county-by-county map, their historically low level state and local power, and post-election polling makes it clear that the country has had enough of …whatever they were doing for the last eight years. It’s why they cling so tightly to the utterly meaningless, California-based, popular vote.

Since they’ve been on the losing end of so many shellackings, they have no real way to stave off the GOP agenda. More specifically, the repeal of ObamaCare is bearing down on them like a runaway freight train. With no way to stop it, they’ve decided they’ll try to slow it down.

The CIA’s War on Trump, Continued

Echoing New York Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer’s warning that the intelligence community is out to “get” President-elect Trump, a Brookings Institution expert who served in the Clinton administration says that Trump’s treatment of his spies will “come back to bite him” in the form of “devastating” leaks to the media that will make him look foolish or incompetent.

Leaking by intelligence officials and analysts is, of course, illegal…

At his recent news conference, in regard to the leaks about his meetings with intelligence officials, Trump noted that “I think it’s pretty sad when intelligence reports get leaked out to the press. I think it’s pretty sad. First of all, it’s illegal. You know, these are classified and certified meetings and reports.”

But it appears that some intelligence officials believe they are above the law and can use illegal leaks to damage an elected President who has been critical of their work product.

They Never Learn: The MSM Keeps Discrediting Themselves

The problem for the MSM — just like the career politicians — is that Joe Six-pack finally woke up — and good ‘ol Joe, has said to h*ll with you

With public opinion indicating that the mainstream press has an even lower approval rating than congress critters, why does the MSM keep shooting themselves in the foot?

The latest self-inflicted left-wing casualty is NBC owned BuzzFeed-which chose to publish the unsubstantiated and badly tainted “dossier” on Donald Trump and his “Russian connections”. Their rush to put out what the intelligence community has now referred to as “unvetted information”, has led to a worse than embarrassing moment for BuzzFeed (along with CNN, who reported the event without publishing the 35 page dossier).

The wild, unprovable accusations were ginned up by an opposition research group, who hired an ex-MI6 spy who wrote the “report”.

The Daily Caller’s Scott Greer has an excellent commentary on the MSM’s propensity for backfiring anti-Trump plots:

U.S., MSM Claims of Russian Hacking Lack One Important Ingredient . . . Evidence

The U.S. Government Was Not Hacked. The Voting Machines Were Not Hacked.

This is one point of intense misinformation by the corporate media. With the tagline “Russia hacked US elections,” the typical uninformed, half-attentive viewer is left with the idea that the Russians hacked into the voting machines and somehow disturbed the true choice of America. In addition, with the rhetoric coming from the government and their media mouthpieces, one is led to believe — by inference — that Russia also hacked the government itself in some way. But the truth is that, regardless of who the hackers may have been, neither the government nor the vote was ever hacked. Only the DNC was hacked. In other words, the Democratic party was the only victim of hacking in this sequence of events. The information contained therein was then released to Wikileaks which, in turn, released them to the public. Notably, it was through intense work and effort that the alternative media was able to bring the material contained in the DNC emails to light.

The Interference. Should The Skeletons Have Stayed In The Closet?

The “interference” in American elections thus centers around claims that Russian hackers obtained secret information that involved shady deals between Clinton’s team and the DNC and collusion Clinton’s team and the corporate media as well as Clinton’s team and bizarre sexual/occult/satanic rituals and shared them with Wikileaks and the press to the detriment of the Clinton campaign, thus causing Donald Trump to be elected. While we will discuss the alleged Russian connections separately, it is important to note that the issues surrounding the material obtained in the attacks were very real. There was collusion between Clinton’s team and the press as well as officials in the DNC. There were also bizarre rituals attended by Clinton’s campaign chair, John Podesta. None of the information released was false. So, essentially, Clinton, Obama, the U.S. Government, and the corporate media are arguing that the skeletons should have stayed in the closet, at least until after the elections when it was too late to matter. They are arguing in favor of secrecy and against transparency.

But it cannot be ignored that the emails and communications were all very legitimate. Had Clinton and her team not acted inappropriately, there never would have been an issue to begin with.

The Invisible Atrocities in the Streets of Paris

Islamic immigration ushers in the downfall of Western values

Sweden decided in 1975 to welcome immigration. Since 1975 violent crime in the country has increased by 300% and rape has increased by 1,472%.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for no limits on incoming refugees. While British MP Owen Patterson estimates 3.6 million refugees will have entered Germany by 2020 and after receiving a German passport, refugees will be able to freely move around the EU.

And in France, 21st Century French culture is being replaced in some areas by seventh Century dogma. Despite this, New Year’s Eve “went off without any major incident,” the interior ministry insisted in a statement, adding that there were only “a few troubles with public order.”

In fact, police arrested 454 people over the night, 301 of whom were taken into custody. Although refugee numbers in France have swelled by 20%, deportations have dropped by 20%. It’s clear that the invasion has reached unsustainable levels. France is just one European example that there IS a war going on.

UK: Afghan Killer Whose Case Sums up the Madness of ‘Justice’ In the EU

Murderer Jamshid Piruz, 34, who was allowed into Britain unchecked from Holland, was given a life sentence yesterday for a hammer attack on two police officers outside a tool shed in West Sussex.

A murderer allowed into Britain unchecked from Holland was given a life sentence yesterday for a hammer attack on two police officers, one a woman.

Jamshid Piruz, 34, originally from Afghanistan, arrived here after serving time in Holland for decapitating a woman at his house near Amsterdam in 2006. Court documents in the Netherlands said he was inspired by Taliban beheading videos.

His journey began in war-stricken Afghanistan. It ended in a life or death struggle with British police officers outside a tool shed in suburban West Sussex. Along the way a woman died in the most barbaric of circumstances. A female constable could so easily have become a second fatality.

The story of convicted murderer Jamshid Piruz is as perplexing as it is bloody and tragic. It should serve as a parable for Britain’s present relationship with the EU — and highlights so many of the concerns among voters that led to Brexit.

It also encapsulates failings in Europe’s justice system and the open borders which too often leave us exposed to dangerous foreign criminals.

Serbian Train Sparks Escalation in Tensions With Kosovo

Kosovo has prevented a Serbian train crossing the border between the two countries, with allegations it was prepared to blow up the track.

The inaugural service from Belgrade to northern Kosovo was heralded as an important transport link by Serbia.

It said the slogan “Kosovo is Serbian” painted on the train was a celebration of cultural heritage.

But Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, saw the train as an act of provocation.

The Russian-made train had been decorated with large images of Serbian Orthodox religious icons from famous monasteries in Kosovo, while hostesses were dressed in Serbia’s national colours.

“This is like a mobile exhibition presenting our cultural heritage,” declared Marko Djuric, who heads Serbian government’s office for Kosovo, ahead of the trip.

British Policy Has Made Situation in Syria Worse, Says Former Ambassador

Peter Ford says Britain should either have committed troops or not have encouraged opposition to mount ‘doomed campaign’

British policy on Syria has been “wrong every step of the way” and made the situation worse, a former UK ambassador to the country has claimed.

Peter Ford, who was the ambassador in Damascus from 2003 to 2006 and has been a persistent critic of UK policy in Syria, said Bashar al-Assad’s government should be given “a little credit” for the “relatively peaceful” end to the siege in Aleppo.

He said there was now a Christmas tree in the city’s central square, which there would not have been “if the other side had won”.

Ford, who has been accused of being an apologist for the Syrian regime, said the UK government faced a choice between two evils and Assad, rather than a jihadi opposition, was the lesser of the two.

He has always claimed the moderate opposition is very small, and the dominant extreme elements are unreconstructed jihadis bent on destroying the west.

The UK Foreign Office view is that only 200 or 300 of the fighters in Aleppo were loyal to al-Nusra, the al-Qaida franchise in Syria. It claims pluralists dominate in the High Negotiations Committee, the umbrella body that has led negotiations with the UN in Geneva.

Ford also opposed UK bombing of Islamic State in Syria, and at one stage, giving evidence to the defence select committee, argued that Assad would win because “repression works”.

The former diplomat said the UK’s policy on Syria had been mistaken from the start. He said the then prime minister, David Cameron, should either have been prepared to commit British forces on the battlefield or refrained from “encouraging the opposition to mount a doomed campaign which has only led to hundreds of thousands of civilians being killed”.

“We have made the situation worse,” he said. “It was eminently foreseeable to anyone who was not intoxicated with wishful thinking. The British Foreign Office, to which I used to belong, I’m sorry to say has got Syria wrong every step of the way.

“They told us at the beginning that Assad’s demise was imminent. They told us he would be gone by Christmas — they didn’t tell us which Christmas, so they could still be proven correct — but then they told us that the opposition was dominated by these so-called moderates. That proved not to be the case.

“Now they are telling us another big lie, that Assad can’t control the rest of the country. Well, I’ve got news for them. He is well on the way to doing so.”

Ford — who has served the Foreign Office throughout the Middle East — said Assad’s forces would need first to consolidate their hold on Aleppo and defend against possible counterattacks. He said they were likely to attack East Ghouta in rural Damascus first before turning to Idlib, the rebels’ last remaining urban stronghold.

“However, this is a time to welcome the fact that there is now a Christmas tree in the central square of Aleppo — there wouldn’t be any Christmas tree if the other side had won,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

Ford — a critic of most western military interventions in the Middle East — said aerial attacks similar to those conducted by the Russian and Syrian air force were under way in Mosul in Iraq and in Yemen without the west raising concerns.

“I think we are very selective in our indignation about the Aleppo campaign. Similar bombing is going on in Mosul and in Yemen and we give the people there a pass. We don’t talk about atrocities, we don’t talk about war crimes, although they are indisputably being committed in both those theatres. We don’t talk about genocide, holocaust.

“We will be lucky if those campaigns end with the green buses. There were no green buses in Gaza. There were no green buses after the Nato bombing in Yugoslavia. I think we need to give the [Syrian] government a little bit of credit for what has been a relatively peaceful end to this terrible period.”

Pressed on the regime’s attacks on hospitals, Ford said: “It was also a war crime to use hospitals as command centres, which is what the jihadis did. It was also a war crime to use schools to store ammunition, which is what the jihadis did.”

Ford in the past has suggested opposition forces were responsible for the deadly attack on a UN humanitarian convoy in October, but a UN panel of inquiry has said the attack was conducted from the air, and only Syrian and Russian air forces were operating in the area. The UN panel said it could not judge if the attack, which led to the deaths of 10 humanitarians, was a mistake or deliberate.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “The UK continues to believe in a Syrian-led political settlement. A political solution and transition away from Assad is the only way to end the suffering of the Syrian people. The Assad regime has the blood of hundreds of thousands on its hands. There is no way it can unite and bring stability to Syria.

“The UK has pledged more than £2.3bn to support those affected by the Syrian conflict and sought to reduce the suffering with every diplomatic lever at our command.”

Leaked Tapes Reveal John Kerry Admission U.S. Was Pulling for ISIS Against Assad, Russia Only Fighting Terror

A Wikileaks release of John Kerry’s statements has yet again blown the lid off the public claims of the U.S. Government, Obama administration, and the corporate mainstream media in regards to ISIS and the war in Syria. The tapes of a conversation between John Kerry and the so-called “Syrian Opposition” at the Dutch Mission of the United Nations on September 22 were released on Wednesday. While mainstream media either refused to report on the leaks at all or eliminated the most incriminating parts of the tapes, Kerry openly states that the United States sat idly by while ISIS grew and grew in order to force Bashar al-Assad to “negotiate.”

To be clear, Kerry did not state that the United States funded, directed, or directly supported ISIS, claims which are already easily documented by previously leaked documents and by simple facts on the ground, both circumstantial and otherwise. However, he did clearly admit that the United States knew ISIS to be growing in Syria but did nothing to stop or oppose it because the U.S. wanted to use it as a bargaining chip in order to make the secular, democratically-elected President, Bashar al-Assad “negotiate,” which, of course, simply means stepping down and allowing a proxy president and Western-backed terror coalition to take his place…

While Kerry’s statement might not be the “we control ISIS” admission that many are looking for, it is important to note that Kerry is admitting to fighting on the same side as ISIS. After all, ISIS was fighting Assad. America was pushing against Assad, even threatening direct and open war against the Syrian government. America’s “rebels” were also fighting against Assad. At the very least, his statement is an admission that the U.S. and Daesh were on the same side and that the U.S. was pulling for Daesh in its battle against a secular peaceful government.

That Time HRW’s Ken Roth Contradicted Himself Twice in 4 Days Over Syria

Human Rights Watch and its Executive Director, Kenneth Roth, have managed a number of brazen failures in their attempt to support Western-backed terrorists in their goal of advancing Western imperialism in Syria. From using photos of cities the United States has bombed in order to blame the destruction on Bashar al-Assad to attacking Syrian nuns who attempted to correct Western media propaganda about kidnapped civilians in Lattakia, HRW has made a name for itself as one of the loudest shill organizations originating out of Soros Land.

Kenneth Roth, however, appears to be in a race with his own organization to see who can discredit and/or humiliate him/itself the most. Obviously banking on the short attention span of his audience, Roth’s Twitter account has now become a display of hypocrisy, propaganda, and contradictions ripe for mockery for anyone who visits it.

Indonesia: West Kalimantan Dayak Tribal Groups Stop Radical Islamic Leader From Deplaning

A group of people in traditional outfit and wielding traditional weapons “invaded” the Sintang airport runway to prevent Tengku Zulkarnain, MUI deputy secretary, from deplaning. The Muslim Islamic leader was set to meet the local Muslim community. He had previously described the Dayak as “infidels.” In fact, the indigenous group has always promoted an atmosphere of harmony and dialogue with other faiths and ethnic groups.

Jakarta (AsiaNews) — A group of tribal Dayak, dressed in traditional clothes and wielding Mandaus, a traditional weapon (pictured), prevented a radical Muslim leader from deplaning and attend a meeting with the local Muslim community.

The incident occurred yesterday at Sintang airport, Sintang Regency (West Kalimantan), on the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo.

The target of indigenous Dayak’s action was Tengku Zulkarnain, the current deputy secretary general of the Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI), the country’s foremost Islamic clerical organisation.

Yesterday’s incident is part of a broader context of growing discontent among the country’s moderate Muslim majority against (controversial) radical figures who promote confessional hatred and interethnic divisions.

This dissatisfaction also targets those groups that encourage intolerance towards ethnic Chinese and non-Muslim political and government leaders.

One such leader is Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, the governor of Jakarta who is on trial for blasphemy. Another is an official in Bantul, who was forcibly re-assigned because Muslim extremists refused to accept a Catholic at the helm of a Muslim majority district.

Local sources report that the plane carrying Zulkarnain had just landed on the runway of Sintang airport and that passengers were getting ready to disembark. They were met by several Dayaks who had gathered on the runway in traditional clothes, and blocked the aircraft’s back exit.

For safety reasons, the Islamic leader and his companions chose to stay on board and cancel the meeting scheduled in the afternoon with the local Muslim community. All other activities on his agenda were also cancelled.

Instead, the controversial radical Muslim leader was forced to fly back on the same plane, to Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan province.

As is often the case in Indonesia, meetings organised by radical Islamic leaders become a venue to stir up local Muslim communities and incite riots, violence, attacks or protests against other religions, ethnic groups or non-Muslim communities.

This is why the Dayak acted pre-emptively, stopping MUI’s deputy secretary from setting foot in the city and hold his meeting.

Another reason that sparked the ire of indigenous Dayak is a tweet posted by Zulkarnain, in which the Muslim leader describes the natives as “infidels.”

These words angered the Dayak community, always careful to promote an atmosphere of harmony and dialogue with other religions and ethnic groups in the region, particularly Melayu Muslims. Some Dayak have converted to Islam right after marrying ethnic Melayu.

Conversely, Zulkarnain, together with Rizieq Shihab, head of the Islamic Defenders Front (Front Pembela Islam, FPI), orchestrated two of the most important protests of recent weeks — in November and December — against the governor of Jakarta. Their goal was to put pressure on the Christian politician and force him to resign.

In recent years, Indonesian authorities have given in on several occasions to MUI’s pressures, which monitors Indonesian’s customs and morals. In Aceh, a region under radical Islamic rule, women cannot wear tight pants or miniskirts.

In March 2011, the Ulema Council lashed out at flag raising “because Muhammad never did it.”

Previously, the group had condemned Facebook, the popular online social networking service, as amoral, and slammed yoga, smoking, and the right to vote, particularly for women.

Pakistan Premier Praises Religious Harmony, But Should Not Forget Ahmadis and Other Minorities

For Nawaz Sharif, the country will be recognized as a “friend of minorities.” Ahmadi Muslims however are considered heretical by Sunnis and Shias. And in December, an Ahmadi place of worship was attacked. The Government of Sindh rejects the law against forced conversions. Protests take place on the day Salman Taseer was remembered.

Lahore (AsiaNews) — While 2016 ended with a depressing note for religious minorities in Pakistan, the New Year seems to bring them good news especially after the recent address of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Pakistan will be strong and earn good reputation by serving minorities and Allah will be pleased. The day is not far when hen Pakistan will be internationally recognised as a minorities-friendly country … we have to give minorities their rights, not only recognize them but also treat them with more compassion. It is part of our faith”, he said on Jan 11 at ceremony at the Katas Raj temples in Chakwal district of Punjab province.

“I am at loss at how our people interpret faith and how some ulemas teach preach hate against other religions. I believe this is not lawful. We are all are equal — Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians — and people belonging to other religions; we are all one.”

While the premier’s condemnation of religious persecution certainly won hears of 190 Million non-Muslim Pakistanis, his personal visit to the Katasraj carries deeper significance. The Hindu’s holiest shrines in the subcontinent are located a few kilometers from Dar ul Zikr, an Ahmadiyya worship place attacked by more than a thousand Sunni Muslims exactly one month ago.

The attack on Prophet Mohammad’s birthday resulted in death of a 65- year-old worshipper (by cardiac arrest), burnt furniture, bullet riddled walls and piles of stones in the compound of century-old site. 600 Ahmadis left Dulmial village same day. However, the returning families are now complaining of a social boycott.

I was surprised to read the reaction of District’s Deputy Commissioner. The government could not do anything to stop this social boycott, the commissioner told Express tribune newspaper last week.

Police guards alone cannot bring peace after conflict. The constitution of Islamic republic clearly states that adequate provisions shall be made for the minorities freely to profess and practice their religions and develop their cultures.

Sadly, these “adequate provisions” were never applied to Ahmadis since they were declared non-Muslims by National assembly in 1974. All state apparatus including judiciary and media has abandoned the community. Television programs who try to raise the plight of Ahmadis are closed.

But it hurts the most when the lawmakers try to help minorities and then retreat. This happened recently when the Government of Sindh Province (southeastern Pakistan) rejected a law that punishes forced conversions with jail time, including life imprisonment. The government submission to the pressure from Islamic groups increases disappointment among minority leaders.

Another example was seen last week on roads of Lahore when heavy traffic jams, protests and shelling marked the sixth death anniversary of former Punjab governor Salman Taseer of Pakistan People’s Party PPP. Taseer was assassinated for stepped up calls for Asia Bibi, a Catholic woman sentenced to die for blasphemy.

“Lahore lockdown by extremist elements is a matter of concern for liberals. We gathered to condemn violation of minority rights. We want a progressive and peaceful Pakistan”, Jehan Ara Wattoo head of the PPP’s social media cell told media.

Neither speeches alone cannot ensure “a progressive and peaceful” country.

The state has to make “adequate provisions” to ensure the safety of its citizens. Despite its good intentions, the government cannot revoke laws made in the name of Islam. However, it could make laws to protect Ahmadis or Hindu girls. It could enforce the recently drafted National Action Plan against violent protestors who openly made hate speeches in Lahore. It could add hardliner Islamist leaders in inter religious committees thus bringing them in mainstream.

Critics of Sharif say most of the terror attacks on Christians occurred in his regime. However, others agree that Sharif has had a change of heart ever since he returned as the premier for the third time.

Church leaders were very happy to see government greetings for Christmas on main roads of Lahore. Many priests told me the number of pro Christian banners were unprecedented in 2016. The traditional Christmas parade of Punjab capital returned for the first time after a decade.

Sharif’s visit to the conflicted district means nothing if it does not change the situation of local Ahmadis. He is also the prime minister of Pakistani Ahmadis.

As Chinese Exports Drop in December, All Eyes Are on Trump

In 2016, Chinese exports fell by 7.7 per cent, the worst decline since 2009. With Trump’s victory, the yuan weakened to its lowest level since 2009.

Beijing (AsiaNews) — China’s exports slumped more than expected in December as global trade remained sluggish. Imports also cooled.

Overall, exports dropped by 6.1 percent on-year, against a 0.1 per cent increase in the previous month.

December’s trade balance stood at US$ 40.82 billion, compared to US$ 44.61 billion in November.

Last year, exports declined by 7.7 per cent on-year, the worst drop since 2009, according to Reuters. Imports declined as well, by 5.5 per cent.

Still, the world’s second-largest economy was left with a 2016 trade surplus of US$ 509.96 billion.

However, rising costs and weakening advantages in low-end sectors will hinder China’s foreign trade performance this year.

Following Donald Trump’s election, the yuan dropped to its lowest level since January 2009, amid renewed strength in the dollar.

A weaker currency makes Chinese products more attractive in overseas markets, and the recent plunge helped explain November’s strong export performance.

Yet, for Reuters if Trump unveils protectionist measures, China’s export growth will be limited.

Regardless, global protectionism is on the rise and will enhance trade risks.

China’s Poorest, Trying to Stay Warm, Add Greatly to Smog

Across vast swaths of northern China’s countryside, residents go to great lengths to burn untreated coal in home stoves despite government efforts to ban the practice and introduce cleaner — but costlier — types of coal or electrical heating.

That dependence represents one of many challenges facing Beijing as it tries to curb the choking smog that’s become a flashpoint for public discontent with the ruling Communist Party.

Experts say coal-fired power plants and steel and cement mills are the main contributors to year-round smog, but household coal-burning in rural areas is a major cause of the spike in pollution during winter, when thick, gray soup-like clouds of dust smother Chinese cities, often forcing highways and airports to close.

It’s the Year of the (Giant Inflatable Trump) Rooster at One Chinese Factory

A factory in eastern China is racing to keep up with demand for its new clutch — giant inflatable rooster balloons that bear what some say is an uncanny resemblance to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.

The Zhejiang-based factory has already produced 30 of the inflatables, some of which are up to 20 meters (65.6 feet) in height, and all sporting puffed-up combs of gold.

Li Haiyan, manager at Caile Inflatable Products Co, said he still has plenty of orders to go before the Lunar New Year arrives on Jan. 28.

The likeness to Trump is pure coincidence and unintended, Li said, and many Chinese will only associate its appearance with that of this year’s zodiac animal — the rooster.

UN Org Pushes 10,000 More Muslims Into Europe 106,000 More Are Planned in the Next 2 Years

We need to be paying more attention to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) which previously, although funded with government funds, was a separate organization from the United Nations. It became part of the UN just last year (see here). The US funds a large chunk of IOM, but I have never seriously looked in to how much.

Here we learn that they are happy to spread 10,000 of the illegal aliens who arrived in Greece and Italy throughout Europe. The largest numbers were moved to France, the Netherlands and Germany! But they are not satisfied with 10,000, they hope to move another 106,000 in the next two years!

What is not clear is if those seeded throughout Europe have even had their asylum claims processed!

So, is it up to the receiving countries to accommodate them and determine if they are legitimate refugees? If they aren’t legit refugees, then must that country try to deport them?
