Bernie Sanders: Treat Climate Change Like a ‘Devastating Military Attack’

Humanity must declare war against climate change, Bernie Sanders said Tuesday, treating it like a military threat that demands full engagement.

“We must look at climate change as if it were a devastating military attack against the United States and the entire planet. And we must respond accordingly,” Mr. Sanders said in a Tweet.

Congratulations on the Promotion. But Did Science Get a Demotion?

A number of recent news articles have brought renewed attention to financial conflicts of interest in medical science. Physicians and medical administrators had financial links to companies that went undeclared to medical journals even when they were writing on topics in which they clearly had monetary interests.

Most agree such lapses damage the medical and scientific community. But our focus on financial conflicts of interest should not lead us to ignore other conflicts that may be equally or even more important. Such biases need not be explicit, like fraud.

“I believe a more worrisome source of research bias derives from the researchers seeking to fund and publish their work, and advance their academic careers,” said Dr. Jeffrey Flier, a former dean of Harvard Medical School who has written on this topic a number of times.

Former NY Times Editor Rips Trump Coverage as Biased

A former executive editor of the New York Times says the paper’s news pages, the home of its straight-news coverage, have become “unmistakably anti-Trump.”

Jill Abramson, the veteran journalist who led the newspaper from 2011 to 2014, says the Times has a financial incentive to bash the president and that the imbalance is helping to erode its credibility.

In a soon-to-be published book, “Merchants of Truth,” that casts a skeptical eye on the news business, Abramson defends the Times in some ways but offers some harsh words for her successor, Dean Baquet. And Abramson, who was the paper’s only female executive editor until her firing, invoked Steve Bannon’s slam that in the Trump era the mainstream media have become the “opposition party.”

Jay Inslee is Running for President — You Know, The Governor of Washington

The Atlantic reports that Jay Inslee is planning a presidential campaign.

That’s the current Democratic governor of the state of Washington, just in case you’re drawing a blank. And he’s talking about running a campaign that is, if not completely focused on one issue, then heavily focused upon it:

Inslee says he has one priority: global warming. It’s not theoretical, or a cause just for tree huggers anymore. Putting off dealing with it for a year or two or kicking it to some new bipartisan commission won’t work, he says. He plans to focus on the threat that climate change poses to the environment and national security—the mega-storms and fires causing millions in damages, the weather changes that will cause mass migrations, the droughts that will devastate farmers in America and around the world.

“The Brussels Elite is Completely Out of Touch With Reality and the European Citizens” — Hungarian State Secretary

In a Facebook post, State Secretary for EU Relations Judit Varga called it “particularly scary” that European Commission President Jean-Claude doesn’t consider migration to be Europe’s biggest problem.

According to Varga, the Brussels’ elite is completely out of touch with reality and the European citizens:

“His particularly frightening answer to the question, whether proper management of the migration crisis would be an important issue during EP elections, was that he would be very sorry as there are far important problems in the EU to consider.

France, The Sick Man of Europe

by Srdja Trifkovic

France’s ambassador to Poland Pierre Levy has said he was “surprised, even shocked,” by the Polish foreign minister, Jacek Czaputowicz, declaring that “something’s not right” with France, and that was “sad because France is the sick man of Europe, dragging Europe down.” M. Levy went on to make an astonishing statement which only confirmed that the Pole was right.

Talking to the media shortly before Christmas, Mr. Czaputowicz said that the protests in recent weeks and the Strasbourg Christmas market attack by a Muslim reflected France’s overall decrepitude. His reference to the jihadist attack was particularly significant—and irksome to the French ambassador—because it clearly alluded to Poland’s refusal to accept any Muslim refugees from Greece and Italy under EU quotas. That position is shared by the other three members of the Visegrad Group, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.

Levy warned that populism and “fringe forces” threatened European interests. As for the Strasbourg attack, he said that “the investigation into its roots and causes had not yet been completed.” Levy further asserted that most of the perpetrators of past attacks were motivated by the same forces of economic inequality that gave rise to the yellow vest riots: “The attacks were acts of . . . people who, for various reasons, found themselves on the margins [of society], and who adopted the badge of Islamic radicals, even though, in reality, they weren’t radicals at all.”…

And now Florian Philipott, who has been consistently supportive of the Yellow Vest movement, has registered the name and intends to run it alongside a joint ticket with his party, The Patriots.

Why Sweden Ended Up at a Political Dead End

Nearly four months after the elections, Sweden is still without a government. Why can’t individual parties from one political bloc cooperate with a party from another bloc? Why can’t the blocs cooperate in general? In our previous article on the subject, we postulated that the electorate has become tripolar — effectively ensuring that no pole gets a majority alone. Today we ask: Why is the Swedish democratic system so deeply built around to the two pole-system that it cannot keep up with the tripolar electorate?

Overwhelmed Border Officials Beg for Help Amid Surge of Sick Migrants

Border officials begged for medical help from the Coast Guard and the Pentagon to screen illegal immigrants and asked American and Mexican disease specialists to investigate a surge of sick migrants caught at the border after another illegal immigrant child died in U.S. custody.

Every juvenile currently held by U.S. Customs and Border Protection is being rechecked for health issues, and a review of CBP procedures is underway, authorities said after the death on Christmas Eve.

This one involved an 8-year-old boy who jumped the border with his father on Dec. 18. They had been shuttled to four CBP facilities and one hospital in the six days before the boy’s death.

CBP said more than two dozen “welfare checks” were performed during those six days and it wasn’t until the final day that the boy showed any problems. He was treated at a hospital and released just hours before falling ill again, and he died soon after he was readmitted.

The death has fueled an already raging debate over CBP’s handling of the surge of illegal immigrant families that is straining Homeland Security’s abilities. Democrats in Congress and immigrant rights activists across the country have said the blood of children is on the government’s hands and insist that bad policies and poor attitudes have contributed to the deaths.

  1. Maybe you can find an analogue of articles in English.

    1) Russia.
    https://fergana.agency/news/103857/
On December 24, the Moscow District Military Court sentenced four employees of the Coca-Cola plant in Novo-Peredelkino, two Tajiks, an Uzbek and a Dagestani, to a colony for 17 to 19 years, for preparing the attack at Teply Stan metro station, reports Mediazone “.

…According to investigators, the defendants invented conditional ciphers to talk to each other: they called the planned attack “the wedding”, the explosion was described as “play the wedding”, and the explosive device was called the “watermelon”.
    ==============
    2) Sweden.
    https://vesti.uz/fanatiki-terakt-nazyvali-svadboj/
    FANATICS CALLED TERRORIST ACT   “WEDDING”
Swedish prosecutors exposed a group of Uzbeks in the town of Stromsund, who were preparing a series of attacks.

The prosecutor’s office in Sweden claims that the phones of two suspects have been tapped since 2017. According to local authorities, the men used code words in the correspondence. So, according to their information, “wedding” meant a terrorist act, and “car decoration” meant its mining.

The group was headed by David Idrisson. In fact, this is an Uzbek citizen Farhad Tashmukhammedov. He moved to Sweden in 2008, received a residence permit as a refugee and changed his name. It was Idrisson who bought a large batch of chemicals to make improvised explosives.

  2. Re Bernie Sanders on climate change: ignoring the threat posed by Islam, can he really be unaware of the much greater- and probably more imminent- danger of an EMP from the Sun (around ten years overdue- the last one in 1857 severely damaged the telegraph, the only electrical device then in widespread use), or the eruption of the supervolcano under Yellowstone Park (about 30,000 years!) Either would cause the extinction of much of humanity. But then, most politicians seem ignorant of the need to address these issues.

    • We can “harden” electronics and the grid to protect from an EMP event, but I doubt there is anything we can do about the Yellowstone caldera.
