Only Employment Gains in the Past Year: Those With a High School Diploma or Lower
In its latest, July, snapshot of the US economy, the NY Fed observed something startling, and which hasn’t received much discussion in the media: when looking at the June report, over the past year the only employment gains have gone to less educated Americans, or as the NY Fed puts it, “over the last year, the employment-to-population ratio has risen for the less educated.” It added that “for those with less than a high school degree and for high school graduates, the employment-to-population ratio rose by 0.4 percentage point and 0.9 percentage point, respectively.
Meanwhile, “the employment-to-population ratio for the more highly educated has been on a downward trend, with the ratio for those with a college degree 0.2% percentage point lower in June relative to a year ago.”

Marcus Hutchins is the 23 year old security researcher behind the @MalwareTechBlog Twitter account; he’s the guy who figured out that the Wannacry worm had an accidental killswitch built in and then triggered it, stopping the ransomware epidemic in its tracks.
According to a US Marshals spokesman, Hutchins was arrested by the FBI shortly after the Defcon/Blackhat conference in Las Vegas, though no one has disclosed the charge. His friends cannot locate him.

A Northwestern University professor, wanted for a brutal stabbing in his Near North Side apartment, has sent a video message to family and friends apologizing for “his involvement” in the murder, police said Friday.
The disclosure is the latest twist in the slaying of 26-year-old Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, who was found repeatedly stabbed and slashed in the home of Wyndham Lathem on July 27.
On Thursday, police said either Lathem or another suspect in the case, Andrew Warren, made a $1,000 cash donation in Cornell-Duranleau’s name at the Lake Geneva Public Library on the day of the slaying. The person gave no indication why the contribution was being made.
Both men remained at large Friday, though police say they have an idea where they might have fled. Lathem, 42, is an associate professor of microbiology at Northwestern and Warren, 56, is an employee of Oxford University in England, who traveled to the United States for the first time just three days before the murder.
“We believe they’re together or (at) least in very close communication,” said Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the Chicago police.
Guglielmi would not say when the video was made or when it was sent out. In it, Lathem said he had made “the biggest mistake of his life,” Guglielmi said, declining to release further information. He urged Lathem to turn himself in.
“At this point, he’s reached out to family and friends,” Guglielmi said. “We don’t want to see this get any worse.”
Police believe Cornell-Duranleau was killed in Lathem’s apartment in the 500 block of North State Street around 5 a.m. on July 27. But officers were not alerted until an anonymous caller reached the front desk of the building around 8:30 p.m., more than 15 hours later…

National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster is thwarting President Donald Trump’s foreign policy prescriptions, two former senior NSC officials told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Special Counsel Robert Mueller convenes a grand jury to investigate the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia during the 2016 campaign, it is important to recall that Mueller made the decision in 2005 to close a FBI grand jury investigation that was convened by the FBI in the 2001 investigation into former President Bill Clinton’s decision to pardon fugitive financier Marc Rich.
Also interesting is the role former FBI Director James Comey played in the decision to end the Marc Rich grand jury without a recommendation of prosecution.

Most are aware by now that North Korea has tested (successfully) another ICBM missile, and its nuclear ambitions are more concrete by the day. The mainstream media and the Obama administration are the creators of the public’s skepticism and denial regarding North Korea’s capabilities. The Obama administration consistently and deliberately downplayed the true strengths and capabilities of North Korea over an eight-year period. Such a downplay was further enabled by key press conferences in which members of the U.S. military’s command structure (specifically those serving in the Pentagon) were made to parrot the administration’s denial.
By “pulling Pentagon officials out” and having them categorically deny North Korea’s capabilities, it set the tempo to create a false narrative that Obama and his minions would champion throughout the eight years. Pentagon officials (Admirals and Four-star Generals) were periodically “rotated” into these press pools to downplay the abilities of North Korea to launch a nuclear missile against the United States.
This obfuscation, orchestrated by Obama and parroted by those general officers who were about to retire in a couple of years was a precise and deliberate weakening of the United States’ defensive stance against a nation that declared its intentions to strike her.
All the experts on the subject were marginalized and labeled either as “crackpots,” or just scoffed at with their opinions relegated to page A-14, just above a coupon for “Captain Crunch” and at the bottom of the page of the newspaper. The public bought it. They swallowed the pill offered by the government-media complex, and in their own narcissistic hubris, discounted the efforts of a “backwards” country such as North Korea to send a nuke to the U.S.
Not anymore.

Trump Phone Call Transcripts Leaked
It will probably not come as a surprise that days after the biggest shake up among White House communications personnel, the Washington Post obtained transcripts of President Trump’s classified calls with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull from the early days of his presidency back in January. While details of the calls had been made public previously, this is the first time entire transcripts have leaked out.
Back then, when the biggest issue on Trump’s domestic policy plate was the issue of the “Great Wall” across the Mexican border, and the fate of refugees coming into the US, which eventually led to various lawsuits blocking Trump’s immigration and travel ban from several mostly Muslim countries, the president expressed frustration over accepting refugees from Australian detention centers under a humanitarian deal negotiated by the Obama administration and candidly discussed the Mexican border wall, telling the Mexican president “If you are going to say that Mexico is not going to pay for the wall, then I do not want to meet with you guys anymore because I cannot live with that.”
One of the funniest lines: “On the wall, you and I both have a political problem. My people stand up and say, ‘Mexico will pay for the wall,’ and your people probably say something in a similar but slightly different language.”
In a line likely to surprise some Trump supporters, the president described the wall as “the least important thing we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important.”

Phone Services Restored After Widespread Outrages in Atlantic Canada
Service is being restored after widespread mobile and landline phone service outages affected customers, emergency operations and airports across parts of eastern Canada.
Bell confirmed that services were back online in a statement on Friday afternoon after a “major service outage” affected internet, TV, wireless and landline phones in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
The outage was caused when major fibre network links were cut during third-party construction in two separate locations, Bell spokesman Marc Choma confirmed.

Another Country Could be on Its Way Out of the EU
European Council President Donald Tusk believes Poland’s future in the European Union could be in jeopardy over the country’s many disputes with the EU.
Tusk — who served as the Polish prime minister between 2007 and 2014 — is worried that Poland’s ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) is edging closer to announcing the country’s intention to leave the EU.

Caroline Glick: Losing and Winning the Temple Mount
Last week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his security cabinet caved in to the demands of the PLO and its partners in Hamas, the Islamic Movement, Jordan, Iran and Turkey by agreeing to remove metal detectors and other security screening equipment from the Temple Mount. The equipment was installed last month in response to Palestinian incitement and acts of jihadist violence against Israelis, including the murder of two policemen, at Judaism’s holiest site.
After polls showed 77% of Israelis felt he and his cabinet members capitulated to terrorism, Netanyahu issued a statement thanking US President Donald Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner and Trump’s senior negotiator Jason Greenblatt for their help in resolving the crisis.
The underlying message of Netanyahu’s statement was that he and his ministers folded like a cheap suit to our enemies’ demands, effectively ceding Israeli sovereignty over the Temple Mount to our enemies because Kushner and Greenblatt pressured them to do so.
But then this week, a congressional intern did us the favor of surreptitiously recording and leaking remarks Kushner made on the issue in off-record remarks to interns at the White House. Kushner’s remarks, which came in response to a question about his role in mediating the Palestinian conflict with Israel, were fairly detailed…

When President Trump won the election, there was hope that he would be able to finally help the US government make peace with the Russians, and stave off the possibility of another world war. He has undoubtedly made some progress in that regard, by ending the CIA’s program to arm the rebels in Syria. And it’s safe to assume that if Hillary had won the election, that there would be absolutely no chance for our nations could reconcile with each other.
Overall however, the Trump administration hasn’t made much progress with the Russians. With every step taken towards peace we’ve fallen two steps back, as our government’s relationship with Russia continues to crumble. The deterioration of this relationship reached a new low recently when congress approved legislation that issues new sanctions against Russia, and prevents Trump from easing those sanctions. Trump signed the bill anyway, knowing that it passed with so many votes that if he had vetoed it, Congress could have immediately overridden his decision.
And as you might expect, the Russian government isn’t taking these new sanctions lightly.
“The U.S. President’s signing of the package of new sanctions against Russia will have a few consequences,” Medvedev, Vladimir Putin’s onetime successor in the Kremlin wrote on his Facebook page in Russian and English. “First, it ends hopes for improving our relations with the new U.S. administration. Second, it is a declaration of a full-fledged economic war on Russia.”
But that’s not all Medvedev had to say on the matter. He added that the approval of the new sanctions essentially amounted to a kind of deep state coup.
“The Trump administration has shown its total weakness by handing over executive power to Congress in the most humiliating way,” Medvedev wrote, lauding the “U.S. establishment” for having “fully outwitted” the White House. Both U.S. chambers passed the bill to take the power of lifting sanctions on Russia from Trump, with an overwhelming majority.
“The issue of new sanctions came about, primarily, as another way to knock Trump down a peg,” the Russian prime minister wrote. “New steps are to come, and they will ultimately aim to remove him from power.”
That makes Medvedev the latest in a long line of high profile individuals, to warn that there is plot within Washington to have Trump removed from office.

Georgia to Roll Out Tens of Thousands of CCTV Cameras With Real-Time Facial Recognition Capabilities
Surveillance using CCTV cameras is old hat these days, even for locations outside the world’s CCTV capital, London. But there’s an important step-change taking place in the sector, as operators move from simply observing and recording, to analyzing video feeds automatically using facial recognition software. Techdirt has written about this area a few times, but these examples have all been fairly small-scale and exploratory. News from Georgia — the one in the Caucasus, not the State — shows that things are moving fast in this field:
NEC Corporation today announced that it has provided an advanced surveillance system for cities utilizing facial recognition to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, in cooperation with Capital Systems LLC, a leading system developer. The system began operation in June of this year, and works in combination with 400 CCTV surveillance cameras installed in Georgia’s major cities, including the capital, Tbilisi.
The system utilizes NeoFace Watch, NEC’s real-time facial recognition software for video, featuring the world’s highest recognition precision. It checks images captured by CCTV cameras against pictures of suspects and others registered in a watch list, making it possible to identify figures rapidly and accurately.
This system was introduced as part of Georgia’s “Safe City, Safe Region, Safe Country” program aiming to improve public safety. Georgia also plans to install tens of thousands of additional cameras nationwide in the future.
It’s not clear whether those tens of thousands of CCTV systems will all be equipped with real-time facial recognition, or only some of them. But even the immediate roll out of facial recognition to 400 CCTV cameras is substantial, especially for a country with fewer than four million inhabitants. It’s hard not to see this as a test-bed for other, much bigger countries, which will doubtless be watching Georgia’s experience with interest. Near Miss: Terror Suspects Built Bomb Using Parts Sent Through the Post by ISIS
Two Sydney men charged with terrorism offences used military grade explosives sent through the post by Islamic State operatives to build a fully functioning bomb before aborting an attempt to smuggle it on board an Etihad flight, police allege.

UK: London’s Exodus Offers a Stark Warning to Other UK Cities: Your Culture is at Risk
For the first time in half a decade, more people are leaving London than are moving to it. Net migration away from the capital has exceeded 80,000 people a year. So why are people leaving the city? And does it really matter?
A lack of affordable, spacious and good-quality housing has of course been a push factor in the exodus from the city. So for some leavers, it’s the allure of the “bargain” family house in the provinces. Others are being forcibly expelled, moved and dumped by their councils to cheaper accommodation in less affluent parts of the country. For others still, more realistic housing costs offer breathing space from the relentless hustle that is making rent in the capital.
But it’s not just housing. London has also become increasingly culturally sterile. Scores of LGBT venues have disappeared. Noise complaints and Operation Condor have sounded the death knell for other music hotspots, with 400 venues closing their doors in the capital in the last decade. The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) has emerged to directly defend the night-time economy from the ravages of regeneration and “luxury” flat developments. The infamous King’s Cross nightclubs — Bagley’s, the Cross and the Key — have been replaced by Granary Square, a privately owned public space owned by UK and Australian asset management firms and pension funds. Here, you can “eat, drink, shop”, unless — of course — you are refused right of entry. Or you want to take a photo.
All of this points to a process that sociologist Saskia Sassen calls “deurbanisation”. Numerically, this means haemorrhaging residents, while metaphorically it relates to the increasing hollowing out of the social and cultural vibrancy of the city. The very things that make up its fabric — the messiness, unpredictability and diversity of urban life — are stripped away. All that’s left is Costa Coffee, Pret-a-Manger and hoardings advertising buy-to-let investments, illustrated by white couples laughing and sipping champagne…

Re London’s culture at risk due to people leaving, it doesn’t sound like much of a culture if the only examples given are LGBT clubs and assorted post-apocalyptic dives for jumping up and down while getting alternatively plastered or high.
It sounds more like the whining of leftwing “artists” and their supporters who can’t get a real job and regard the galleries and museums of fine art as foreign and fake.
Bad art, super loud music and stimulants is never going to be something to base a real culture on.
With the painful demise of Christianity in Western Europe (and the USA) since the infamous 60’s, tribal dancing, faction fighting between men vs. women, blacks vs whites, pro-Life vs. pro-Death elements, and the curse of relativity on moral issues, either Marxist dystopian culture of government control or Sharia will be implemented to bring order to future generations. Traditional cultures have their own beauty, but they have different motivating mores. Tribal dancing is vibrant and exciting. It doesn’t aim for the harmony and elegance of a ‘Swan Lake’. (I suppose Modern Dance tries to marry the two, with some success.) Picasso embraced African tribal art and we got cubism!
Embracing the primitive in art took place in the early 20th century. It’s been a phase in our Western cultural evolution and was perhaps a corrective to the over-sentimentalized, chocolate box art that characterized the 19th century.
Now’re we stuck with embracing the primitive in person, remembering that not all people from Third World cultures are primitive. Many are highly educated and love the West.
It is those who are under-educated IN THEIR OWN CULTURE, with barely a few years of primary or grade school and have therefore developed no analytical skills, who find it impossible to adapt to the metropolitan and suburban West.
But with Islam, even the well-educated are crippled by the backwardness of their culture, which was ethically superseded

Certainly, traditional cultures have some merits.
Those merits could have been delivered to the West via temporary tours of dancing troupes and art exhibits.

In a way, the LGBT culture is a bit like Islam in that it has very little to offer the majority of humanity.

Good comment. However, I am not too sure people are awake enough to notice what is happening. PC has got to go! In a free society, which we think we are living in, we can say anything we want. But that’s not happening right now. People are afraid to express their true feelings/ideas. This is, needless to say, a very bad thing. I don’t know what comes next but I’m glad I’m old. I feel sorry for my children and grandchildren — but hope they will have the guts to stand up and fight for their rights.
Right to free speech, right to think what you want, right to vote as you wish — I could go on and on but you see what I mean. We have to take our freedom back again. No more PC — it is poison. No more allowing hordes of muslims into our country, that too is poison because they do not assimilate as other immigrants in previous times have done.

I think London/England are lost for now. They took the wrong turn and they will reap the rewards or punishment. I do feel sorry for them in a way, though. I have been in Britain to visit my aunt, and I noticed that they were not very realistic at all. But a beautiful country and I enjoyed it all. Still, politically, they are stupid.
I don’t give a crap about Germany, though. Merkel is doing her best to destroy Germany and she seems to be succeeding. “We can do this” — really? Import enough muslims to destroy German culture? That will “fix” Germany? Germany has a mixed past and we all know it (those of us who know history) and yet this stupid woman thinks bringing in more muslims is a good idea?
