Appeals Court Vacates ‘Disinformation’ Monitoring of Jan. 6 Defendant’s Computer

Authored by Joseph M. Hanneman via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

A sentencing requirement that Jan. 6 defendant Daniel Goodwyn have his computer monitored by the government for “disinformation” has been vacated by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

The court on March 26 published a mandate sending the case back to U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton to remove the computer monitoring requirement he issued as part of the sentencing judgment in the case on June 15, 2023.

“Judge Walton had no legal basis to issue the special condition,” Carolyn Stewart, Mr. Goodwyn’s attorney, told The Epoch Times in an April 3 email.

A three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the judge “plainly erred” in imposing the computer monitoring. Judges Gregory Katsas, Naomi Rao, and Bradley Garcia issued a per curiam order vacating the monitoring provision.

Eight environmental nonprofits are set to receive a combined $20 billion in federal funds from the Biden administration as part of its efforts to fight climate change. The money was authorized in the Inflation Reduction Act, which despite its name was a massive spending bill pushed through Congress by the then-Democrat majority.

In a written statement, Vice-President Kamala Harris celebrated the allocation of these funds, referring to the initiative as “the largest investment in financing for community-based climate projects in our nation’s history.”

According to FOX 13, 11 schools in total were scheduled to be closed and will start to be phased out in the fall. The district says on its website that the decision was made to address “historical inequity,” because some races are underrepresented in them.

Cole Brings Plenty, “1923” Actor, Found Dead in Kansas Days After Being Reported Missing

Cole Brings Plenty, an actor who appeared in “1923,” a spinoff of the popular television western “Yellowstone,” was found dead after he went missing amid a domestic violence investigation in Kansas, authorities said Friday.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on social media that deputies found the body of a 27-year-old male in a wooded area on April 5. Detectives were dispatched around 11:45 a.m. local time to investigate an empty car on Homestead Lane, the sheriff’s office said.

Crime scene investigators and the medical examiner were at the location, but no details were released about the cause of death. Two days earlier Brings Plenty was charged in a nearby county with aggravated burglary, domestic battery and criminal restraint. An arrest warrant was issued

Police in the town of Lawrence said officers responded Sunday to an apartment where a woman was screaming for help, and Brings Plenty had left before they arrived. Traffic cameras showed him leaving the city immediately after the incident, traveling southbound on 59 Highway, the Lawrence Police Department said. Authorities said he was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer bearing a Kansas license plate.

He then missed an audition for an upcoming film project that was scheduled for Monday morning over Zoom, his agent, Peter Yanke of Phirgun Mair Worldwide, said this week. Authorities said they had used drones in their efforts to locate the missing actor.

Fast Feud: Shootings at Wendy’s, Chipotle Go Viral

Two shootings at fast food restaurants in Democrat-run cities went viral last week, after enraged customers went off on employees during arguments.

On Friday night, a trigger-happy customer got into an argument with a Chipotle employee near Detroit, reportedly over guacamole.

According to Fox2, customers were eating when they heard an argument break out between another customer and an employee. When the employee went to the back of the restaurant, the customer walked around the counter and tried to shove food in his bag, when the employee intervened.

“Then the employee came back, and they started fighting, and then we heard a gunshot and just ran out as quickly as we could,” one witness told the outlet.

The employee was shot in the leg.

A customer who recorded the incident said that the suspect “took his time getting out” after firing the gun.

“I was in my car and I saw him walk out to his car, close the door, and just drive off — he didn’t speed off or anything, it was weird to see,” he said.

The victim was transferred to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition with a non-life-threatening injury, Fox News reports.

The suspect, a 33-year-old male from Detroit, was arrested near the restaurant and the firearm recovered by police.

Meanwhile at a Chicago Wendy’s, an employee was injured when a disgruntled DoorDash driver opened fire because the restaurant didn’t have any record of the order, CBS News Chicago reports.

Here’s Why the $30 Million Los Angeles Heist on Easter Sunday Could Go Unsolved

The wild $30 million cash heist from a Los Angeles warehouse Easter Sunday was apparently pulled off by a top-notch group of criminals — and so clean that it could go unsolved, an expert says.

“This is a group that would have to have a lot of prior experience,” said Scott Selby, a Harvard-educated lawyer and co-author of “Flawless,” a book about the famous Antwerp Diamond Heist, to The Post.

“It’s like if you were a gymnast, you know, by the time you’re world-quality, you’ve already done a lot of work,” Selby said of the type of thieves who seem to have targeted the GardaWorld facility in the Sylmar neighborhood last week.

NYC Squatters Are Cashing in on Legal Loopholes and Crowded Courts to Take Over Homes — and Good Luck Getting Them Out: Experts

The Big Apple is seeing a troublesome trend of unwelcome squatters illegally bedding down in private homes and apartments in the five boroughs — and it’s gotten much harder to kick them out.

A backlog of housing court cases and changes in the law in recent years have made it a bigger and longer-lasting headache for landlords to boot unwelcome tenants, legal experts tell The Post.

“This is happening far more now than in the past,” real estate attorney Josh Price said. “Squatters have become far more sophisticated than before. They set up elaborate schemes, fake documents and investigate the homes before breaking in.”

What Do Scientists Hope to Learn From Total Solar Eclipse in US?

When a rare total solar eclipse sweeps across North America on Monday, scientists will be able to gather invaluable data on everything from the Sun’s atmosphere to strange animal behaviors — and even possible effects on humans.

It comes with the Sun near the peak of its 11-year solar cycle, setting the stage for a breathtaking display: The corona will glow spectacularly from the Moon’s silhouette along the path of totality, a corridor stretching from Mexico to Canada via the United States.

Total solar eclipses offer “incredible scientific opportunities,” NASA Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy told a press conference this week about the celestial event.

The US space agency is one of the institutions at the ready for the eclipse, with plans to launch so-called “sounding rockets” to study the effects on Earth’s upper atmosphere.

Jury Selected for Coutts Three Trial, 100 Supporters Gather at Courthouse

“Did COVID-19 have an impact on you or anyone close to you?”, Justice Keith Yamauchi asked potential jurors during the jury empanelment process on Tuesday, for the trial of the Coutts Three — Marco Van Huigenbos, Alex Van Herk, and George Janzen — in Lethbridge, AB.

The three defendants are being charged with mischief over $5,000 for their roles in the Coutts border blockade and protest of 2022, a demonstration that ran concurrently with the Freedom Convoy protest in Ottawa, ON. The two peaceful demonstrations included civil disobedience in opposition to governmental decrees, edicts, and mandates marketed as “public health” measures to reduce COVID-19 transmission.

Potential jurors who answered Yamauchi’s opening question in the affirmative were asked the follow-up question, “Will you be able to set aside that impact in determining this case based only on evidence heard during proceedings and instructions from me?”.

Moldova Teams Up With US and Romania for JCET-2024 Military Drills

Moldova’s Defense Ministry announced the commencement of the JCET-2024 military exercises with US and Romanian forces starting April 1, the country’s Defense Ministry’s press service reported.

These exercises, set to run through April 19, aim to foster training and experience exchange among special forces and enhance the interoperability of the troops involved.

The training will encompass a range of activities, including parachute jumps, live-fire exercises during both day and night, and field training on specialized tasks, tailored to various scenarios.

This military collaboration occurs against the backdrop of NATO’s extensive Steadfast Defender exercises, which started on January 24 and are expected to extend through spring 2024. These NATO exercises simulate a scenario where a Russian assault on Alliance territory prompts the activation of NATO’s Article 5, which mandates mutual assistance among member states, interpreting an attack on one as an attack on all.

An Ipsos model for Slovakia’s Dennik N had suggested higher turnout was likely to favour Pellegrini. In the event, the turnout, 61.1 per cent of voters, dwarfed previous elections: up from 41.8% in the second round in 2019.

In a contest fought largely about Ukraine, for which Fico withdrew Slovakia’s previously substantial military support, Pellegrini presented himself as a peace candidate who would urge Ukraine to the negotiating table with Russia.

UK: Brexit Voters Back Reform Over Tories for First Time

Brexit voters are backing Reform UK over the Conservatives for the first time, polling has shown, as the Deputy Prime Minister hinted at the possibility of a general election in January.

Data published alongside a YouGov survey conducted on April 2 and 3 showed that 35 per cent of supporters of Britain’s exit from the European Union intend to back Richard Tice’s Right-wing party.

Thirty-three per cent plan to vote for the Tories, down one percentage point on the previous week, while Reform UK was up by two points. A further 22 per cent of Leave voters are set to support Labour.

Just One in Five Scots Back Draconian Hate Speech Law, as Leftist SNP Government Set for Big Election Defeat

A paltry one in five people in Scotland are in favour of retaining the leftist government’s draconian new speech law as Humza Yousaf faces the prospect of being removed from power at the general election.

A survey conducted by the FindOutNow polling firm has found that just 21 per cent of the Scottish public support the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021, which came into force on Monday, criminalising the “stirring up hatred” against several protected classes of people with up to seven years in prison.

Conversely, the poll found that 45 per cent were in favour of scrapping the new speech codes, while a further 35 per cent said that they were undecided. Broken down by party, three in four Conservative voters want to axe the law, compared to just under half of Labour supporters.

Four suspects charged in connection with murder of 15-year-old schoolboy in France

Following the tragic death of 15-year-old Shamseddine in France, four young men have been charged with murder, according to an announcement by the public prosecutor’s office. The incident occurred after Shamseddine was violently attacked while leaving his secondary school in Viry-Châtillon Essonne, located south of Paris.

The altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute related to the younger sister of two of the accused, with prosecutor Grégoire Dulin citing “subjects relating to sexuality” as a contributing factor. Additionally, one of the 15-year-old minors has been charged with “wilfully failing to prevent a crime.”

Among the accused, two individuals, including a 20-year-old adult and a minor, have been remanded in custody. The other two young men are also in custody, awaiting a hearing before the liberty and custody judge scheduled for Wednesday.

All five suspects were apprehended on Friday, the day following the incident, which resulted in Shamseddine being hospitalized at Necker Hospital in Paris. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday afternoon.

Initial investigations and statements from the accused suggest that the two brothers involved in the attack harbored concerns about their family’s reputation, leading to the assault on Shamseddine. Notably, these brothers had prior convictions for violence and drug-related offenses, shedding light on their history of criminal behavior.
