Bruegel: EU Commission’s New Debt Rules “Unrealistic”

Using the methodology of the European Commission’s reform proposal for revising the bloc’s debt and deficit rules, the economic think tank Bruegel found that the new rules would impose severe restrictions on the public budgets of several member states.

The think tank presented its conclusions before the European Parliament’s economy committee on Wednesday, September 20th, warning that the model may prove too hard to implement in France and a few other EU members, including Italy and Belgium.

California Bill to Have Human Drivers Ride in Autonomous Trucks is Vetoed by Governor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill to require human drivers on board self-driving trucks, a measure that union leaders and truck drivers said would save hundreds of thousands of jobs in the state.

The legislation vetoed Friday night would have banned self-driving trucks weighing more than 10,000 pounds (4,536 kilograms) — ranging from UPS delivery vans to massive big rigs — from operating on public roads unless a human driver is on board.

Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, head of the California Labor Federation, said driverless trucks are dangerous and called Newsom’s veto shocking. She estimates that removing drivers would cost a quarter million jobs in the state.

“We will not sit by as bureaucrats side with tech companies, trading our safety and jobs for increased corporate profits. We will continue to fight to make sure that robots do not replace human drivers and that technology is not used to destroy good jobs,” Fletcher said in a statement late Friday.

Californians to Pay 18% Tax on Firearms, Ammo After Anti-Gun Lawmakers Strike

Two weeks ago, the California Legislature passed a new excise tax on the sales price of all firearms, firearm precursor parts, and ammunition. The 11% tax, paid in addition to sales taxes (base statewide sales tax of 7.25%), would take effect on July 1, 2024. As of Thursday, Assembly Bill 28 remains on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk.

The bill was introduced by anti-gunner and Everytown and Giffords supporter, Democrat Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel of District 46, who has mentioned on his website, “We must ban the sale of assault weapons and stand up to the NRA. In the State Assembly, he’ll fight for tough gun control laws to help prevent mass shootings and keep our kids safe.”

Cancers Appearing in Ways Never Before Seen After COVID Vaccinations: Dr. Harvey Risch

Authored by Efthymis Oraiopoulos and Jan Jekielek via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

There is evidence that cancers are occurring in excess after people receive COVID-19 vaccinations, according to Dr. Harvey Risch.

Dr. Risch is professor emeritus of epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Yale School of Public Health and Yale School of Medicine. His research has focused extensively on the causes of cancer as well as prevention and early diagnosis.

In an interview for EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders,” Dr. Risch said patients must now wait months, not weeks, to get an appointment at an oncology clinic in New York.

Chicago’s Trillion-Dollar Financial Engine at Risk of Leaving Over $800 Million Tax Proposal

As the winds whip through the canyons of Chicago’s skyscrapers, a storm is brewing between the city’s derivatives powerhouses like DRW, IMC, CME, and Cboe, and a new mayoral administration desperate to fill its half-a-billion-dollar budget chasm, Bloomberg reports.

The city’s financial giants, traditionally known as the fulcrum of the global derivatives market, have been greasing the gears of global trade for decades in what’s now a $75 billion industry. Now, they find themselves in the crosshairs of an $800 million tax proposal from Mayor Brandon Johnson. The plan? levy every financial transaction. The response? Chicago’s financial elite are rattled — particularly as crime rates surge.

Defunct ‘Disinformation Governance Board’ Sought to Censor Opposing Views on Racial Justice, Afghan Withdrawal, & Other Political Subjects

Authored by Jonathan Turley

We previously discussed the defunct Disinformation Governance Board and its controversial head Nina Jankowicz. After the outcry over the program, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas finally relented and disbanded the board while insisting that it was never about censoring opposing views.

Jankowicz has sued over the portrayal of her views.

Now, Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF) has exposed just how broad the scope of the censorship efforts were under the board in combatting “misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation (MDM).”

This range of authority in what the agency called the “MDM space,” included targeting views on racial justice and the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Embattled Sen. Bob Menendez Spent Years Helping Developer and Imam Behind Controversial Ground Zero Mosque

Sen. Robert Menendez spent years helping the Egyptian-American imam behind the controversial ground zero mosque — a plan the embattled Democrat later championed.

Menendez, 69, was indicted on federal bribery charges Friday, along with his wife, for schemes that allegedly benefited the government of Egypt and three New Jersey businessmen.

Starting in 1989, when the senator was the mayor of Union City, NJ, Menendez reportedly secured more than $2 million in public cash and loans for Egyptian-American imam Feisal Abdul Rauf.

Florida Siblings, Ages 10 and 11, Stopped While Driving Mum’s Car 320km From Home

A 10-year-old Florida boy and his 11-year-old sister who were running away to California drove 320km in their mother’s car before they were stopped by sheriff’s deputies on an interstate highway, authorities said.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office says deputies spotted the sedan on Interstate 75 near Gainesville in north Florida just before 4am on Thursday. The children’s mother had reported it stolen and her children missing four hours earlier in North Port, a city in southwest Florida.

The deputies, thinking that they were dealing with car thieves, drew their guns and ordered those inside the car to step out.

“Much to their surprise, deputies observed a 10-year-old male driver exit the vehicle along with his 11-year-old sister,” the department said in a statement.

The children told deputies the girl had been upset that their mother had taken away her electronic devices for misbehaving, so the boy was driving her to California. The children were interviewed by detectives, who said there was no indication they had been mistreated by their mother or anyone else in the home.

The mother declined to press charges and the children were released to her.

New York Mayor Eric Adams Introduces Surveillance Robots

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City, who once said that “Big Brother is protecting you” has unveiled a new policing initiative involving a robotic law enforcement officer. Announced in a press conference on Friday, the NYPD plans to trial a dystopian robotic surveillance platform in the Times Square subway station.

Dubbed the Knightscope K5, this semi-autonomous robot is no lightweight. Weighing in at approximately 400 pounds and capable of moving at a top speed of three miles per hour, the K5 has been described by Adams as “not a pushover.” This was clearly demonstrated during the press conference as the Mayor tried unsuccessfully, multiple times, to knock it over.

This debut, however, has spurred a wave of concerns hinging on privacy and a seeming inclination towards surveillance.

Texas GOP Leadership Votes 58-2 for Resolution Calling for House Speaker Dade Phelan to Step Down

At the Texas Senate Republican Executive Committee (SREC) meeting on Saturday, GOP leadership voted 58-2 on a resolution that called for Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan to resign after his attempt to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton failed earlier this week.

The resolution, obtained by the Texas Scorecard, cited the failed impeachment of Paxton and the appointment of nine Democrats to “chair important legislative committees” as reasons for his resignation.

“Speaker Dade Phelan ignored or actively undermined several GOP priorities during the regular session, failing to prioritize legislation to secure our borders and elections, the resolution states. “[N]ew leadership is needed in the House of Representatives for the upcoming special session, and potential subsequent special sessions, to ensure that conservative priorities are achieved and members are no longer pressured to act and vote contrary to the platform, principles, and priorities of the Party they represent and its voters.”

The trial of the Freedom truckers in Ottawa revealed on Friday that the enactment of a city bylaw prohibitting truckers from idling their engines at temperatures above —15 degrees Celcius was meant to “freeze out” the protesters.

“We Have Lost the Essence of What a Democracy Is”: An Interview With Paul Coleman

Paul Coleman is a British lawyer and executive director of the legal advocacy organisation ADF International (Alliance Defending Freedom). ADF and Paul Coleman have been supporting Päivi Räsänen, former Home Affairs Minister of Finland since she was investigated by police in 2019. She was criminally prosecuted for ‘hate speech’: for tweeting a picture of some Bible verses directed towards the national church of Finland after it became a sponsor of the Helsinki Pride Parade in June 2019; for writing a small booklet on marriage and sexuality for church members in 2004; and for discussing these issues during a live radio debate in December 2019. She was acquitted by a district court last year, but the prosecutor appealed and the court of appeal’s decision is expected shortly. Paul Coleman talked to us on the sidelines of the Demographic Summit in Budapest about the “chilling effect” hate speech laws all around Europe are having on society, the UK entering the realm of “thought crime” and “probably the worst” hate speech bill being discussed in Ireland.

Austria: Islamic State Supporting Teenager Planned a Terror Attack

Austria may have narrowly avoided a suicide attack linked to IS, as a young supporter reportedly failed to carry out his plans at the last moment at Vienna’s main train station. The 16-year-old initially intended to ignite a firecracker at the station to create chaos and subsequently attack passersby, Kronen Zeitung reported.

Allegedly, the 16-year-old discussed his intentions and sought support in a Telegram group he had joined a few months earlier, where he rapidly radicalized. In his own statements, he expressed a desire for “paradise,” explicitly referring to the Vienna attacker who killed four people in the city center on November 2, 2020, before being shot by the police.

According to PI-NEWS, the German economy is not just stagnating but in decline. Real estate sales, they claim, are falling faster than the previous year and they attribute this economic slide to the Green, Yellow, and Red coalition.

Support for Nuclear Weapons in Britain Surges to 65%

Nearly two-thirds of British citizens have expressed confidence that having their own nuclear arsenal contributes to national security. According to the latest research from the National Centre for Social Research, 65% of respondents hold this view, which closely mirrors figures recorded during the Cold War era.
