Biden Admin Stayed Quiet on Chinese Spy Balloon to Not Disrupt Blinken, Xi Meeting: Report

The Chinese surveillance balloon that entered US airspace on January 28 was known to the Biden administration for nearly a week before the news of it broke on Thursday, February 2, with the White House trying to keep its presence a secret as to not disrupt Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s scheduled trip to China, which ended up being postponed after the public’s discovery of the balloon.

According to Bloomberg, “As it turns out, US authorities were well aware of the unidentified object that had entered American airspace on Jan. 28, that had then left and re-entered over North Idaho on Tuesday. But with such a high-profile trip at stake, keeping it on the down-low was key.”

Biden Tries to Say He Wanted Balloon Shot Down Earlier, But DoD Says Government Knew Long Before it Became Public

President Joe Biden on Saturday delivered a few remarks to reporters on the shooting down of the Chinese surveillance balloon that entered US airspace on January 28, saying that he ordered for it to be taken down as soon as possible but that military officials advised him to wait until it was “safest.”

“I ordered the Pentagon to shoot it down on Wednesday as soon as possible,” Biden said to press in Hagerstown, MD following the news that the balloon had been shot down over the Atlantic Ocean around 2 pm.

China Balloon: US Shoots Down Airship Over Atlantic

The US has shot down a giant Chinese balloon that it says has been spying on key military sites across America.

The Department of Defense confirmed its fighter jets brought down the balloon over US territorial waters.

Three airports were shut and airspace was closed off the coast of North and South Carolina as the military carried out the operation on Saturday.

Footage from the AP news agency showed the balloon falling to the sea after a small explosion.

US President Joe Biden has been under pressure to shoot the balloon down since it first appeared in its airspace last week.

According to a statement from the Pentagon, on Wednesday Mr Biden approved the plan to take down the “surveillance balloon as soon as the mission could be accomplished without undue risk to American lives under the balloon’s path”.

Officials had advised him against targeting the object while it was over land due to the danger of falling debris.

Earlier on Saturday, President Biden told reporters he would “take care of it” in answer to a question about what would happen to the high-altitude craft.

The balloon’s arrival over the US comes amid fraying tensions between Washington and Beijing, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling off a trip to Beijing over the matter.

Chinese Balloon Live Updates: ‘We’re Going to Take Care of it, ‘ Biden Says

China claims the balloon now flying over the central U.S. is civilian in nature.

U.S. officials say a massive surveillance balloon believed to be from China and first seen above Montana is being tracked as it flies over the continental United States.

“The United States government has detected and is tracking a high-altitude surveillance balloon that is flying over the continental United States right now,” Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement on Thursday. “NORAD [North American Aerospace Defense Command] continues to track and monitor it closely.”

China’s foreign ministry has claimed it is a civilian balloon used for meteorological purposes, but U.S. politicians, many on the right, are already demanding President Joe Biden shoot it down.

Chinese Spy Balloon Shot Down Over Atlantic Ocean

Two US Air Force F-22 fighter jets on Saturday shot down the Chinese spy balloon that had floated clear across America’s airspace — eight days and more than 4,000 miles after it first breached the US border.

“I want to compliment our aviators who did it,” President Biden told reporters as he cheered the downing en route to Camp David.

The two planes, both based at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Vir., circled the surveillance craft as it neared the coast of South Carolina, while the Federal Aviation Administration shut down three airports in North and South Carolina and closed the airspace over Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Wilmington due to “national security initiatives.”

Once the balloon had floated a safe distance into the Atlantic, one of the F-22s took aim with a single AIM-9X missile, a senior military source said.

Roughly 50 cars being carried by a Norfolk Southern train derailed around 9 p.m. Friday in East Palestine, near the Pennsylvania border. The accident sparked flames that illuminated the pitch black sky and created smoke so thick that meteorologists said it could be seen on the weather radar.

Georgetown Gets ‘Lifetime Censorship Award’ From Campus Free Speech Watchdogs

Georgetown University’s law school put a newly hired constitutional scholar on leave for four months for his “inartful” criticism of President Biden’s identity box-checking for a Supreme Court nomination.

It cleared Ilya Shapiro on a technicality after classes ended for the year, rather than deeming his speech protected by academic freedom, prompting Shapiro to leave for a conservative think tank where he said he won’t be dogged by “the speech police.”

That incident is one factor behind the Jesuit institution’s “Lifetime Censorship Award” from the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, released concurrently with its 12th annual list of the 10 worst colleges for free speech.

Killing of O.C. Doctor Who Was Riding Bike Stuns Community

The driver accused of hitting an Orange County doctor who was out riding his bike and then repeatedly stabbing him was charged with murder on Friday in a crime that stunned the community and left many unanswered questions.

Vanroy Evan Smith, 39, of Long Beach, was charged with one count of murder and personal use of a deadly weapon, which could enhance his sentencing, according to Orange County Superior Court records. Smith, who pleaded not guilty, is being held on $1-million bail.

If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life. Smith, who is listed as unemployed in jail records, is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 16 for a pretrial hearing.

Dr. Michael John Mammone, 58, was riding his bike near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Crown Valley Parkway in Dana Point at about 3 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck from behind by the driver of a white Lexus, Orange County sheriff’s officials said.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified by authorities as Smith, got out of the car and stabbed Mammone several times with a knife, sheriff’s officials said.

Mount Washington as Cold as Mars With Record-Breaking Wind Chills of 110 Below

This cold is out of this world.

New Hampshire’s Mount Washington felt more like Mars than planet Earth on Friday as wind chills dipped below an unfathomable minus 110 degrees, a new record for the coldest wind chill ever recorded in the US.

Known for having some of the world’s worst weather, Mount Washington saw air temperatures plummet to minus 46 degrees with wind speeds averaging over 100 miles per hour with gusts over 125 miles per hour as the artic air mass wreaked havoc Friday, according to the Mount Washington observatory.

Visibility atop the mountain was less than one-sixteenth of a mile — or just over 100 yards.

Meanwhile on Mars, temperatures on the surface this week reached a balmy high of 16 degrees with a low of minus 105, according to NASA. The space agency said temperatures of the red planet can fluctuate between minus 225 and 70 degrees.

Panel That Awarded Pulitzers for Russiagate Stories Mum After Scathing Exposé on Reporting Failures

The panel that awarded Pulitzer Prizes to the New York Times and Washington Post for reporting related to the discredited Trump-Russia collusion narrative has gone mum as it faces new scrutiny following publication of a four-part series in the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) documenting the establishment media pillars’ lapses from their claimed journalistic standards.

The 19-member Pulitzer Prize board for 2017-2018 was comprised of various journalists, professors and writers, including several current or former staff members of the New York Times or Washington Post.

Just The News reached out to 13 members of the panel to find out if the CJR exposé had prompted second thoughts about the Russiagate prizes. Neil Brown, president of the Poynter Institute had an auto reply set, saying he was out of the office, while Steve Coll, former dean of Columbia Journalism School, had an auto-reply saying he is on sabbatical. Texas Governor Considers ‘New’ County Election After Ballot Issues Found

Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours)

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called for a new election in Harris County, Texas, after ballot issues were more widespread than officials had estimated them to be.

In response to an analysis that found there was a ballot paper shortage that was far larger than previously reported, the governor said that “it’s so big it may have altered the outcome of elections.

“It may necessitate new elections,” Abbott also wrote. “It WILL necessitate new LAWS that prevent Harris Co. from ever doing this again.”

Abbott, a Republican, was responding to a KHOU-11 analysis suggesting that Harris County allotted ballot paper packets that were enough for 600 ballots to each of the county’s 121 voting centers. However, the analysis found that the total votes that were cast exceeded that amount by upwards of hundreds of ballots in some instances.

According to published reports, George Soros is teaching college courses these days to thousands of students.

To be clear, he is not actually on campuses in front of the class. Rather, exhaustive investigations by journalists reveal how his reach, influence, and above all, money, is resetting curriculum to reflect his political ideology wherever and whenever he can.

Investigative author Matt Palumbo wrote in the New York Post last month:

“In 2020 alone, Soros’ Open Society Foundations budgeted more than $63 million, or just over 5% of its budget, toward influencing higher education here and abroad…

“More than 19 colleges had individually received at least $1 million from Soros, including Harvard University, Columbia University, Indiana University, and Georgetown University, among others.”

Lidl to Significantly Reduce Meat Choices

Steak and sausages will soon have to make way for tofu and soy. A European supermarket chain wants to focus more on vegan instead of animal products in the future.

The supermarket chain Lidl has announced that it will offer significantly fewer animal products such as meat in the future. The company plans to publish a sustainability report this year that will calculate the distribution of animal and vegetable proteins in its range. By 2025, the proportion of plant-based foods will then be “continuously increased”, it announced.

According to the Lebensmittelzeitung, chief buyer Christoph Graf said there was no alternative because there was no second planet. He spoke at the Green Week in Berlin recently. Resources must be managed for all ten billion people on the globe. That is only possible if less meat is consumed, said Graf.

Radionov viciously lashed out with the knife before chasing the victim upstairs and stabbing him again. He could easily have killed the housemate as the man’s liver was punctured during the stabbing and bled heavily, Hull Crown Court heard.

Radionov, 30, of Carter Street, Goole, admitted wounding with intent and possessing a knuckle duster as an offensive weapon on September 23, 2020.

Nigel Clive, prosecuting, said that Radionov, from Latvia, and his wife lived in a shared house. Another man, from Lithuania, also lived there and he got out of the shower and put on jogging bottoms but no shirt. He stood in the kitchen talking to Radionov’s wife.

Radionov walked into the kitchen and complained about the other man being only partially dressed. There was an argument and, during this, the other man hit Radionov hard on the back. Radionov picked up a short knife from a kitchen drawer, turned sideways and stabbed the man in his stomach.

The man ran at Radionov, raising his fist and wanting to punch him. Radionov stabbed him a second time in the same area, causing bleeding.

The victim ran to a bedroom but Radionov chased him and stabbed him once in the back and once in the back of his arm while the man was trying to close his bedroom door.

Caroline Glick: What Blinken Refuses to See

Friday morning brought the first piece of good news from Israel’s Supreme Court in years. Yediot Ahronot’s top headline declared that Supreme Court President Esther Hayut intends to resign if the Knesset passes Justice Minister Yariv Levin’s judicial reform package.

Hayut’s stewardship of the court over the past six years has been disgraceful and destructive to both the court and the State of Israel. The Hayut court dropped even the pretense of judiciousness. Hayut cast the court on a course of ideological radicalism and politicization that has no parallel anywhere in the world.

Hayut’s radicalism was well known in the legal community. She wasn’t then-justice minister Ayelet Shaked’s first choice for the court’s top slot. But Shaked had no say in the matter. Israel’s current judicial selection process protects justices from accountability to the public and its elected representatives. Supreme Court justices have a veto over nominees to the court, so everyone who gets the nod from the Judicial Selection Committee, including ostensibly conservative jurists, must embrace the organizational culture and values of the sitting justices.

The justices also control who serves as president. Under the current selection system, the president is the senior associate justice when the sitting president reaches retirement age. By controlling who gets appointed when, the justices are able to predetermine the identity of the president. In 2017, Shaked tried but failed to cancel the seniority selection process, and Hayut was promoted.

Outside observers were exposed to Hayut’s radicalism immediately before she took office. She set it out in a speech before the Bar Association in September 2017. Not one for understatement, Hayut compared herself and her colleagues to God…

Berlin: Students Should Not Call Police on Migrant Sexual Offenders

According to the student council of the Free University of Berlin (FU), women should not call the police when sexually harassed by migrants. Although an immigrant is alleged to have repeatedly sexually harassed women at the FU, the ASta student council warned against calling the police for help.

The General Students’ Committee (AStA) of the Free University of Berlin (FU) warned in a circular email not only against a man who has repeatedly sexually harassed and threatened female students for some time now, but also against calling the Berlin police if they come into contact with him. People who meet him and feel harassed by him are strongly advised not to do so. Instead, they should first contact the university’s security service.

Alerting the police could lead to “police violence” according to the council. “We would like to point out that police interventions for people affected by racism are always accompanied by an increased risk of experiencing police violence,” the AStA letter stated. It is said to have been sent to the university groups and student council initiatives last week.

If they can’t see that, they need to be re-educated, Maher asserted.

Maher said: “Yesterday, I asked ChatGPT, are there any similarities between today’s woke revolution and Chairman Mao’s Cultural Revolution of the 1960s?

“And it wrote back; ‘how long do you have?’

“Because, again, in China, we saw how a revolutionary thought he could do a page-one rewrite of humans.”

  1. That thing about using a missile to down a balloon. Aren’t these things awfully expensive? Apart from just being extremely overpowered for the task, potentially destroying evidence one might be wise to retrieve intact as much as possible. I’ve never had an internship with the military, but an education in physics. A single bullet or short salvo from a helicopter would have been more appropriate, I believe. Or was this meant to “shock and awe” the Chinese, as tried time and again elsewhere? It don’t impress anyone, really.

    • Ah, sorry I forgot about the altitude, so no helicopter. Just some method that would deflate the balloon in a more controlled manner.

    • this story makes no sense at all from any point of view, except dumb war propaganda to use and consume internally in america. i really suspect no baloon even existed and it is all simply fake…

Now blacks can also be infected by white supremacy.

    By Lars Hedegaard / snaphanen.dk

American politics has for many years been dominated by the racist insanity of the left, which complains that racism is the cause of every conceivable misfortune. The problem is “white supremacy,” which causes all the evil in the world. Whether you’re talking about the “climate,” the economy, incubators, or the lack of rights for men with penises who claim to be women, white men are behind all the missteps. Whites may make up a rapidly declining percentage of the American population, but the fewer they are, the more evil and powerful they become, we must understand.

This was also true when five black policemen in Memphis killed a black man a few days ago. At the moment, even blacks can be infected by “white supremacy”, which simply explains everything.

The antidote to the white peril for many years has been quotas for blacks and other racial or ethnic groups to receive special treatment, such as admission to universities or public employment. Competence or aptitude must take a back seat to race or ethnicity. However, Americans of Chinese descent should not expect to be favored. On the contrary, they should be under-prioritized because their IQ is too high.

And as with all American madness, this has now taken hold in Denmark. We simply have to learn to think in racial and ethnic terms. The ideal is no longer a cohesive people, but a fragmentation into segments, some of which can get special treatment because they are to be pitied.

A commenter on Facebook has just filled in the basic list of citizens who want to stand as judges and notes that the authorities will favour applicants of ethnic origin other than Danish. In other words, Danes can expect to be turned away if an ethnic or non-white person stands in their way.

The racist and ethnic rule will, of course, favour left-wing parties that are particularly attractive to Muslims – because that’s who it’s all about. This will give the Danish judiciary, which is already steeped in left-wing ideology, a further left-wing twist. Soon, Danes may risk being judged by judges who are supporters of a completely different legal system from the Danish one. As we know, 77% of Muslims living in Denmark are in favour of replacing Danish law with Sharia law, and this will certainly affect their judgments.

By the way, how do we find out what race or ethnicity the candidates for the judges are? Will Danish citizens – as in the US – have to fill in a declaration about how they want to be titled? For example, are they black, white, brown, Asian, Inuit, Hmong, Faroese, transgender, homosexual or Muslim? And what to do with people who belong to several different racial or ethnic groups. For example, a transsexual Bornholmer who has converted to Islam and identifies as Indian? Everything must be written down and saved in the new Denmark.

I wonder who decided that we should switch to American conditions? Was it decided in Parliament, or is it just something that the left-wing Ministry of Justice has come up with?
