A New Bankruptcy Filing Shows the Value of FTX’s Crypto Holdings is Just $659,000, After Sam Bankman-Fried Said They Were Worth $5.5 Billion

The FTX chapter 11 bankruptcy filing is shedding new light on just how bad the internal controls at the crypto exchange were up until it imploded in spectacular fashion last week.

A particularly jarring disclosure is that the total fair value of crypto held by FTX International was just $659,000 as of the end of September, compared to claims from its founder Sam Bankman-Fried’s that the company held $5.5 billion in “less liquid” crypto tokens.

“Never in my career have I seen such a complete failure of corporate controls and such a complete absence of trustworthy financial information as occurred here,” new FTX CEO John Ray III, who is overseeing the liquidation of the company, said.

That’s quite the statement coming from Ray, given that he oversaw the liquidation of Enron following its more than $60 billion bankruptcy in 2001.

Russia Finally Falls Into Recession as Western Sanctions Lead to a 4% Fall in GDP Nine Months After Putin Invaded Ukraine

Russia’s economy has been struggling under a myriad of problems. Western sanctions have limited exports and imports, and there has been a lack of staff due to Putin’s partial mobilisation.

Russian Economy Officially in Recession as Sanctions Start Biting

Russia’s GDP fell 4 percent in the third quarter, marking the second consecutive quarter of economic contraction and dealing a massive blow to President Vladimir Putin’s ability to fund his military operation in Ukraine.

Moscow’s federal statistics agency, Rosstat, has announced that Russia has slipped into recession. In the second quarter, as Western sanctions began to take effect, the Russian economy contracted by 4.1 percent. Russia’s economy suffered a massive drop in trade after pro-Ukraine powers adopted the sweeping and devastating sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine.

It also took a hit after hundreds of thousands of Russians — many believed to be highly skilled workers — fled the country after Russia announced a partial mobilization of reservists in response to heavy losses in Ukraine.

Two successive quarters of negative economic growth constitute a recession, according to the official definition

UK PM Rishi Sunak Desperate for G7 Countries to Launch Central Bank Digital Currencies

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is pushing other G7 countries to adopt Central Bank Digital Currencies or CBDCs.

A video of Sunak saying as much is gaining traction online.

The video appears to date back to late last year when Sunak was Chancellor of the Exchequer (head of the UK Treasury), a position he held until he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in October.

CBDCs are digital currencies countries propose to replace their current cash, coin and digital entry systems, like the money in your bank account.

People and companies would hold the digital currency in their digital wallets, make payments for the purchase of goods & services, make transfers, and so on.

But unlike Bitcoin, CBDCs would reside on a centralized blockchain rather than a decentralized one, meaning the central bank would have complete control over its issuance and management.

UK PM Sunak, Chancellor Hunt Have ‘Declared War’ on Workers With Tax-Hike Budget: Farage

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Chancellor Jeremy Hunt have “declared war” on workers and small businesses with their tax-hiking autumn budget, according to Nigel Farage.

Sunak and Hunt, explicitly rejected for the Conservative leadership by ordinary party members earlier this year and in 2019, respectively, but now running the country regardless thanks to the support of parliamentary elites, have unveiled a punishing programme of tax hikes in the latter’s Autumn budget speech on Thursday — although money is still being found for questionable priorities such as green agenda spending.

Why Hasn’t Sam Bankman-Fried Already Been Forced Back to the US for FTX Fiasco, Critics Wonder: ‘Lock Him Up’

Judge Jeanine Pirro on Thursday railed against the fact that Democratic megadonor and “crypto-kid” Sam Bankman-Fried has yet to be extradited from the Bahamas to the United States amid questions about the fall of his cryptocurrency exchange company FTX.

Bankman-Fried, 30, remains holed up in the Bahamas after his $32 billion company went belly-up and over $1 billion in customer funds vanished last week. He became billionaire founding FTX. His penchant for philanthropy in the forms of donations to causes addressing issues like pandemics and climate change, as well as his massive donations to Democrats and liberal PACs, made him a major player in Washington and a media darling.

Now Bankman-Fried is facing investigations in multiple countries and his fortune has vanished. Pirro said the United States should have engaged immediately with Prime Minister Philip Davis’ government in Nassau to extradite Bankman-Fried the 160 miles across the sea to in Miami.

Activist Attacks on Famous Paintings Decrease Support for Addressing Climate Change, Study Finds

The recent spate of high-profile protests by young climate change activists, such as throwing soup at famous paintings in museums or stopping traffic on busy roadways, makes the public less likely to support action to address climate change, according to a new survey conducted by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.

“Republicans, Democrats, independents: In every case, people reported that these actions made them less likely to support climate action,” Michael Mann, a professor of earth and environmental science at Penn and a co-author of the study, told Yahoo News. “People are turned off by it, and as a result they’re less likely to support the cause of the people doing the protests.”

Attorney General Miyares Agrees to Appoint Special Counsel to Review Nov. 13 Deadly Shooting at UVA

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The University of Virginia announced on Thursday that it sent Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares a request to appoint a special counsel to conduct an independent investigation of the events surrounding the tragedy that occurred on the school’s campus on Nov. 13.

University President Jim Ryan and University Rector Whitt Clement sent a letter to Miyares requesting for a special counsel after a shooting on campus left three university football players dead and injured another football player and a student.

“The University of Virginia community remains in a state of shock and mourning after three members of our community were killed and another two were seriously wounded on Nov. 13,” Ryan said in a statement.

The suspect in the shooting, Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr., was scheduled for a bond hearing on Wednesday morning at the Albemarle General District Court. He reportedly appeared emotionless as his charges were read to him via video link. His next court date is set for Dec. 8 at 9:30 a.m.

As the commonwealth’s Attorney General, Miyares has the authority to appoint a special counsel to serve state agencies under specific circumstances.

Miyares accepted the University of Virginia’s request shortly after the school’s letter went out. He will appoint an external firm to begin the review process, which will include a rigorous examination and analysis of the school’s actions before, during and after the shooting.

“After a tragedy of this nature, it is important for the affected institution to take a hard look at what circumstances led up to the event and, how the University responded in the moment,” Clement said in the statement. “Once an external review commences, we expect it to be the central avenue by which we gain a deeper understanding about what led to this tragic event. While many details of the review will involve protected student information or other confidential details, the University will provide as much information as we can through a summary report of the review’s findings and recommendations, once it is complete.”

Big Tech Manipulated What Swing State Voters Saw Online to Help Democrats in Midterms

Big Tech companies took direct action to manipulate the information and content that voters in swing states saw online in an effort to sway them to the Democrats during the midterms, bombshell new research has revealed.

The discovery was uncovered by a team of researchers led by Robert Epstein, Ph.D.

The researchers found evidence that Google took steps to help shift votes toward Democrats during the elections, specifically targeting swing states.

According to the findings, Google nudged undecided voters toward the Democrats by showing them biased content on Google and YouTube.

They also found that Google was sending far fewer go-vote reminders to conservatives than to liberals and moderates.

Elon Musk Warns Twitter Managers They’ll be Fired for Backing Employees Who Are Not ‘Excellent, ‘ Even as Hundreds Refuse to Work for Twitter 2.0

Elon Musk on Thursday clarified his stance on remote work at Twitter while adding a warning to managers who are now held responsible for reporting employee performance.

In back-to-back emails seen by Insider, Musk further clarified his stance around remote work amid mass confusion inside the company about how a new mandate effectively ending remote work at Twitter would be implemented. Twitter employees have worked for almost two years under a “work from anywhere” company policy allowing them to work from home full-time if they wished and in any state. Musk is changing that, saying in his first email to staff that only “exceptional” employees will be allowed to continue working from home alongside those who get an “exception” that Musk will sign off on.

Although he slightly softened that stance a week ago, Musk further clarified on Thursday what is needed to get such an exception.

“‘It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen,’ and the powers in charge of Florida’s public university system have declared the State has unfettered authority to muzzle its professors in the name of ‘freedom,’“ Walker, an Obama apointee, wrote in the ruling.

It has already been widely reported that Bankman-Fried was the Democrat’s second-largest doner, just behind George Soros, but this latest revelation shows just how massive an influence the disgraced crypto-bro may have had over politics in the last few years.

Senator Ed Markey Issues Threat to Elon Musk’s Twitter

Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) has threatened Elon Musk for not building “guardrails,” on Twitter and said that the company will “pay a price if they don’t put safeguards in place.”

Speaking to Mehdi Hasan on MSNBC, Senator Markey said that guardrails “have to be built around social media sites that are allowing — for Twitter, for $8, to give someone an ability to impersonate who they are — and they could be impersonating the fact that they’re the CDC or Eli Lilly or a United States Senator.

Last week, Senator Markey tweeted a letter he sent to Twitter CEO Elon Musk asking about the platform’s new verification policies. The letter asks Musk why The Washington Post was able to create a verified account in Markey’s name.

We obtained a copy of the letter for you here.

In response to the tweet, Musk wrote: “Perhaps it’s because your real account sounds like a parody?” In another tweet a few hours later, Musk asked, “And why does your pp have a mask!?”

Coutts Blockade ‘Key Participant’ Speaks on POEC

After appearing as a witness for the Public Order Emergency Commission, Marco Van Huigenbos spoke with us about his testimony, and how he felt about the relevance Coutts had to the invocation of the Emergencies Act by Justin Trudeau.

Marco, along with Alex Van Herk and George Janzen, could now face 10 years in prison after being charged with mischief over $5,000. These charges stem from the RCMP’s allegation that the three were key participants of the Coutts blockade.

Investigating Chinese Police Stations Operating on Canadian Soil

Pop music fans might recall an English band back in the 1980s called China Crisis. We’re not sure why they chose such a moniker, but it would seem like Canada is experiencing a real-life China crisis in 2022.

For starters, for some inexplicable reason, there are reports of Chinese police stations operating in Canada, three of these being in the Greater Toronto Area.

How is such a thing even possible? And what exactly are these Chinese police doing here?

Going back to the summertime, we repeatedly reached out to CSIS and the RCMP, but our calls and emails were not returned. So, we decided to visit a Toronto RCMP detachment back in September.

Live Updates (Day 25): Public Order Emergency Commission Investigates Trudeau’s Use of Emergencies Act

The public inquiry investigating Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s decision to invoke the Emergencies Act began on Oct. 13. As part of the government’s obligations following the invocation of the Act, a commission must be convened within 60 days and its subsequent report must be tabled in Parliament within 360 days after the Act is revoked.

This inquiry, deemed the Public Order Emergency Commission, was announced by Trudeau on April 25 after the Emergencies Act was revoked on February 23. The mandate delivered from the prime minister tasks the commission with handling the examination and assessment of the basis for the Trudeau government’s decision to use the Emergencies Act, the circumstances leading up to the invocation and whether this was an appropriate and effective measure chosen by the government to address the Freedom Convoy.

The ‘Tool of Last Resort’: Public Safety Canada Officials Testify at the Trucker Commission

Day 22 of the Public Order Emergency Commission featured some extremely interesting testimony from a pair of Public Safety Canada officials, Rob Stewart and Dominic Rochon.

Before we get to their testimony, let’s quickly refresh why this inquiry is taking place. This past February, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act in response to peaceful protesters from the Freedom Convoy demonstrating in Ottawa against remaining COVID-19 restrictions in Canada. Following that decision, a commission must then investigate whether the decision to invoke the act was actually necessary.

You can see all of our coverage and support our work at TruckerCommission.com.

Rob Stewart was a name that has appeared often since the inquiry began, but on day 22 we finally had a chance to hear from the man himself. Stewart, as deputy public safety minister, was working very closely with Trudeau’s Liberal cabinet, particularly Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino, during the Freedom Convoy.

Polish Politician Blames Ukraine for Missile “Provocation”

A Polish politician has blamed Ukraine for causing a “provocation” by falsely claiming its own missile that struck Przewodow had been fired by Russia.

Immediately after news broke of the incident, President Zelensky called on NATO to take action against Russia, accusing Moscow of firing the rocket.

However, within hours it became clear that the accident, which killed two people, was actually caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile.

That didn’t stop British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, NATO and other prominent officials blaming Russia for the incident anyway, despite it clearly being Kiev’s fault.

Sweden Changes Constitution to Crack Down on Terrorism

The Swedish parliament has passed a constitutional amendment that will allow it impose restrictions on freedom of association. A crackdown on suspected terrorists was demanded by Türkiye as a condition for accepting the country’s bid to join NATO.

The change was supported on Wednesday by 278 MPs in the 349-seat Riksdag. It paves the way for future legislation aimed at combatting terrorism, and is widely perceived as a concession to Türkiye, which has long accused Sweden of sheltering fugitive terrorists on its soil and failing to eradicate their fundraising networks.

Türkiye’s complaints have centered on alleged supporters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which fought a decades-long guerrilla war against the government. Ankara said it would not accept Sweden’s bid to join NATO unless it changes its policies, effectively preventing accession.

‘The More Time Passes, The Less Reversible the Situation Will Be,’ Says Prominent Author Laurent Obertone on Risk of Civil War in France

An exclusive interview with French journalist, essayist, and novelist Laurent Obertone, author of the prophetic bestseller novel “Guerilla — The day everything went up in flames” (in French: “Guérilla — Le jour où tout s’embrasa”) and of several essays on the violent and totalitarian drift of French society (“La France Orange Mécanique” — Clockwork Orange France, “La France Big Brother” — Big Brother France, etc.). Following its big success in France, the novel “Guerilla” has also been translated into German, Italian, Hungarian, and Japanese, and will soon be published in Spanish

You are the author of several bestsellers in France, including the famous “La France Orange mécanique,” published in 2013, which documents insecurity in France based on local press publications that are rarely picked up at the national level. You then published, among other titles, the novel “Guerrilla” in 2016. This novel takes place over three days in a France sinking into civil war after yet another violent incident between thugs and police in an “ethnic” suburb. These are undoubtedly your two most often quoted works and the most vilified by the French political and media mainstream, but many see the first one as a realistic assessment of the current situation and the second one as a plausible prognosis for the future. Very recently, while reacting to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin’s comments on the share of foreigners in crime, you said: “The path we are following today is one of chaos.” So, in your opinion, nothing has changed in France since the publication of “La France orange mécanique” and “Guerilla”?

Wagner Denies Involvement After Mercenary Killed in Ukraine

Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the mercenary group, accuses the US of executing Yevgenny Nuzhin, who reportedly switched sides to join Ukrainian forces.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Russia’s mercenary Wagner group, has denied it had any involvement in the execution of one of its fighters in Ukraine.

Last week, a social media account linked to Wagner shared unverified footage of a man identified as a former mercenary being killed after declaring that he had switched sides in September to “fight against the Russians”.

In the footage, the man, who gave his name as Yevgeny Nuzhin, 55, was shown with his head taped to a brick wall. He said he was abducted in Kyiv on October 11 and came around in a cellar.

“I got hit over the head and lost consciousness and came around in this cellar,” he said. “They told me I was to be tried.”

As he said those words, an unidentified man in combat clothing behind Nuzhin was seen smashing a sledgehammer into the side of his head and neck.

Nuzhin collapsed onto the floor and the unidentified man delivered another blow to his head.

The video appeared on the Grey Zone Telegram channel, one of several that Russian media has said was linked to the Wagner group. The footage was posted under the title, The hammer of revenge.

Asked to comment on the execution video, Prigozhin said on Sunday in remarks released by his spokeswoman that the video should be called, “A dog receives a dog’s death” and labelled Nuzhin a “traitor”.

“Nuzhin betrayed his people, betrayed his comrades, betrayed consciously,” said Prigozhin, who has been sanctioned by the United States and European Union for his role in Wagner.

But on Tuesday, the 61-year-old denied Wagner’s involvement and accused US intelligence services of being behind the killing, without providing evidence to support his claim.

    THE GOOD SOCIETY

WHERE THE CONTEMPORARY SELF-UNDERSTANDING IS CREATED

from the Helsingborg library touched me badly. It recently appeared in the newspaper Nya Dagbladet.
    1
Preschool children in Skåne should be taught the right values at preschools and, during the holidays, at libraries. Now the chief ideologists have to get straight to the most vulnerable part of a person’s personality: psychosexual development with all that it entails in terms of shaping one’s own identity and sexuality. Of course, the state and local authorities have to get in there too and poke around!
    2
The article describes how some transsexual men travel around reading “norm creative stories” to young children, encouraged by the surrounding “professional” adult world. The inspiration comes from San Francisco and now the Swedish preschool children have the chance to listen to cross-identity stories. The article reveals that it is a kind of odyssey that these drag queens are on:
    3
The two men held 57 norm-breaking storytelling sessions at preschools in Malmö last spring. Nearly 2,000 children are said to have experienced the storytelling of the two men dressed as women. During the storytelling session, the children are also introduced to the first state phrase,
the mantra “Equal value for all”.
    4
For me, having worked with vulnerable children, mental child abuse becomes a more relevant concept. What we see in the picture is a disempowerment because children of that age cannot handle such an encounter. It is difficult enough for them to take in the mystery of the existence of two sexes. Then they have to be able to work out how that might work and eventually, hopefully, find out who “I” am. Preschoolers’ identity formation is in its infancy. That the institutions of PK society engage in activism, dressing them up in rainbow clothing to affirm their own intersectional values, is nothing short of an assault. Were I in these children’s clothes, I would be frightened and believe that adults I trusted had forced me to meet a witch!
    5
However, the work on values on the intersectional children front is not something that is limited to Skåne. The media, see here and here, have for several years conveyed what a success similar initiatives have been in different parts of the country. It is glitter and joy that comes to the children!
    6
But the Christian newspaper Världen i dag already stood out from the crowd a few years ago when it reported from a preschool in Skåne:
    7
All children are to be called “hen”, boys are pressured to wear dresses and Astrid Lindgren books have been thrown away in the name of norm criticism. This is the reality at a municipal preschool in southern Sweden.
    8
There, an edict had been issued that children must not be gendered. This is despite the fact that proven child psychology has shown that the search for one’s own gender identity is a driving force for children at this age. But the new norm critics ignore this. For them, ideology and utopian visions have overridden what, among other things, psychodynamic work with children has founded in Sweden since PBU (Psychic Child and Youth Care) opened its clinics in the country in the early 1950s.
    9
So, like an offensive gender-certified wave, all the “resource educators” are coming in on a broad front to demolish established thinking. For them, it is a matter of promoting their newfound careers and marketing the new critique of norms (which in reality seems to be the norm itself):
    10
The one- and two-year-olds sat in a circle while the educators told them that a girl can fall in love with a girl and a boy with a boy. Then some of the children were asked, “Who are you in love with?”. One little boy looked totally confused and then said ‘my Lego’,” says ‘Anna’, who works in a nursery for three- to four-year-olds.
    11
Surely it can be a good thing for pre-school children to know that their peers can have two mums or two dads. But when it comes to transsexuality, the picture is too complicated for a little person. Should we set this aside and instead allow attention-seeking (and self-doubting) troublemakers, who are not themselves completely at ease with their own gender identity, to compensate for their own difficulties at the expense of children’s natural development? Surely the intention cannot be to risk leading those we call “our youngest” into a state of confusion and gender dysphoria before even the exploration of their own sexual identity has begun?
    12
I respect that there are people who feel they were born in the wrong body. But for that reason, their dilemmas should not be acted out for their own therapeutic purposes. Nor in the name of some imposed social norm in nurseries and libraries. A word of advice to those involved in this pioneering activity: please keep your transsexual, exhibitionist, values-oriented fingers off our young children!
    13
I wonder what my former employer Bris (Children’s Rights in Society), where I was press officer for twelve years, has to say? Has the LGBTQ fury of the adult world and the hunger of the establishment to shape politically correct and compliant citizens early on become more important than allowing children to be children?

  2. “But unlike Bitcoin, CBDCs would reside on a centralized blockchain rather than a decentralized one, meaning the central bank would have complete control over its issuance and management.”

I don’t remember being asked to vote for this. Let’s get it stopped.
